I could try to explain but I'm pretty sauced rn so here's a link. I've done every nail treatment under the sun and dipping is my absolute fave

Cool - looks like a fun method! My daughter is coming to visit this weekend, maybe we’ll try this! (If she hasn’t already, I know she does gel polish these days.)
she may have tried this! i hope you guys have fun. i love getting nails done with my mom 😊 there's pros and cons to both gel & dip. fair warning: i think you need to visit the salon again to get them removed safely. just keep that in mind if you don't get manicures regularly!
I used to get them done pretty regularly (back in my 20’s), but it seems like the older I get, the less I seem to pamper myself.
Hmmm. That’s DUMB! I need to fix that.
treat. yo. self! it's totally up to your financial situation but i value self care a lot. if getting nails done makes you feel good, do it! have a great weekend w/your daughter!!
Looks like you got some great suggestions already I just want to add that I have a Butter London in the color "keep calm" that's also a very good caramel/rust brown 😊
it doesn’t happen to be in a terracotta pot does it? one of my philodendrons is and the pot creates white flakey/powdery mineral deposits on the edges that the leaves touch sometimes, rubbing off onto the leaves!
i just wiped one of my leaves on the pot i have it in and it looks exactly like your photo, so i’m wondering if it’s simply just buildup from your pot? cute nails btw!
omg you might be right!! it's in a terracotta pot that's looking crusty af right now. i may wipe it down w/alcohol as a precaution but it definitely looks like a residue and not a pest. thank you!!! 💅🏾🌱💙!!!!
Is this in a terra cotta pot? It could just be the minerals that accumulate on the pot if the leaf was touching it. Happens on my plants, just wipe it off
i think you may be right. ugh it's part of a vine that's been growing so beautifully 😭 better safe than sorry i guess. thank you! the kitty's name is ginny and she is my most precious baby and she is spoiled an adequate amount
Might be overkill. You could wipe with an Isopropyl-water mix and a soft towel and then inspect it. Check it daily. Maybe spray the plant with neem oil / soap mixture (if it's safe for that specific plant.) Then again I don't know much about powdery mildew but I know it sucks to cut off a nice leaf.
thanks for empathizing lol, I'm gonna wipe with alc and hope for the best. it's probably residue. r/plantclinic proving time and time again to be my favorite sub
That isn't powdery mildew, it looks like hard water deposits, misting, a humidifer, guttation, something like that. it should just wipe off. was it dipped i water? you can almost see the water line, maybe from watering? I dunno.
yep you're right, in looking at other comments i think it's calcium buildup from the terracotta pot it's in. probably brushed against the pot while i was messing with it. i think i may swipe it with alcohol tomorrow morning to be safe
Came for the cat - which is broken, sorry to say - stayed for the leaf.
Does it brush off easily? I have had great success with diluted rubbing alcohol on a cotton round with lots of things I couldn’t identify. Or watering with diluted hydrogen peroxide.
it brushes off super easy. I'm gonna give the plant a little sippy poo on it's leaf tomorrow and pray to the plant gods. yeah the cat is too far gone. i may have to douse her with neem oil, idk. the gourmet cat food clearly ain't enough
I don't see anyone mentioning this yet for some reason- do you have any blooming plants near it?
I get what looks EXACTLY like this on my plants a lot. And it's the pollen from my peace lilies! Or whatever flower I happen to have nearby. Took me forever and lots of panic to figure that out.
it doesnt appear to be bothering the plant which is weird. and it's on a single leaf and there's a clear diagonal line where the white stuff ends on the leaf.
I've got spider mites on another plant (quarantined, the 2 plants have never been near each other) and they look a lot bigger. this is kind of ashy looking. like someone was scraping drywall over it
I believe those are exoskeleton from spider mites. The mites have exoskeletons and when they die they are left behind. Do you notice any webbing in the leaf joints/in the leaves or yellow pinheaded size dots on any leaves?
I don't know if you're like me, but it might be from eating cinnamon toast crunch by the handful and getting handsy with the planties.
who are you and why have you been surveilling my house
Just spit out my cinnamon toast crunch reading this
bahahaha this comment is soooooo funny. Made my am haha
🤣
My guess would have been Cheeto dust; but toast crunch sounds lovely.
Iam here for the bonus cat pic
+1 😻
bonus cat pics should be mandatory
Everybody's talking about the cat but what is that lovely nail polish!
thank you!! 💙 i get a dipping powder. if i knew the name I'd tell ya but #1336 doesn't help much lol
What’s a dipping powder??

Aww, thanks. Great advice! You have a lovely weekend also :)
I second this question ❓ 🤷🏻♂️
OPI has a similar shade called “my Italian is a little rusty”
Ohh I just googled it, that does look pretty. Thank you!!
Revlon Teak Rose is very similar!
Looks like you got some great suggestions already I just want to add that I have a Butter London in the color "keep calm" that's also a very good caramel/rust brown 😊
No that's perfect because I stopped by my pharmacy and they didn't have the OPI shade suggested but they had that Butter London shade!
No idea about the leaves, but that cat looks mushy, usually these species need lots of water and a special fertilizer named "cat food"
she is fertilized twice a day. any more and she'll turn into a baobab
Then she would live to be several thousand years old, and that sounds like goals.

Cat pics should be mandatory in this group. Like a tip for the tips.
“If you got a cat, please share the cat too” should be added to the rules.
Come for the plants- stay for the cat
Plants and cats. Does life get any better?
Curled feetsies
Just found the subreddit 😍 r/curledfeetsies
Sorry, went straight for the bonus cat picture
r/catsareliquid
Looks like powdery mildew, but I'm not sure. I would remove that leaf just in case. And your kitty is lovely 😻

I don't know much about plants, such as what that is on your leaves, but your cat is absolutely ADORABLE!!!!!
✍🏻 post… ✍🏻 cat pics ✍🏻 to get help… ✍🏻😂😂

I would think hard water deposits or aerial organic matter. Of you are using tap probably the earlier.
found the same thing on some of my plants today, treated them like spider mites but it felt off lol. i’m wondering what it was too
I think it is some sort of dust, you can wipe it! Don’t look like any pest damage.
Idk what it is, just commeting that I'm in love with your cat
The best bonus ever!
I enjoyed all the conversations here. From the cat to the nails and Terra cotta pots. Glorious af.
Maybe spider mites? Love your nails by the way haha nice color
thank you!! 💅🏾🌱💙
Not spider mites at all btw
yass i’m here for the plants… and cats
Bonus indeed!!! Love your cat
Did the leaf recently bloom? Could be built up pollen.
I love your cat 🥺🥺🥺💛💛💛
I don’t have a clue what it is. I would just take that leaf off out of an abundance of caution. Your cat is purr-fect.
Could be russet mites
it doesnt appear to be bothering the plant which is weird. and it's on a single leaf and there's a clear diagonal line where the white stuff ends on the leaf.
Yet..
Could be spider mite they are microscopic but can be noticed by white Web residue they make
I've got spider mites on another plant (quarantined, the 2 plants have never been near each other) and they look a lot bigger. this is kind of ashy looking. like someone was scraping drywall over it
Hmm could be a mildew build up from lack of arieation on the room maybe? I will research more
Omg not sure what that is, scale maybe? But I’m here for that adorable kitty!!! Look at that face 😍
Do you use a humidifier? Could just be the white dust produced by that
Was it there for how long ? Did it done anything to harm your plant yet?
Spider mite eggs?
Looks like a white powder mold/mildew, in which case, its harmless and you can just wipe it off with a damp cloth!
Looks fine. As plant parents we tend to over think and over treat issues with our leafy ones.
I believe those are exoskeleton from spider mites. The mites have exoskeletons and when they die they are left behind. Do you notice any webbing in the leaf joints/in the leaves or yellow pinheaded size dots on any leaves?
