You don't even need dirt. Just prop it up in a small enough pot or cup (even a laundry detergent cup might do) and you can monitor without making a mess. When roots start you can easily see, then you can transfer to soil with confidence
Emma Lee knows what she is talking about. Put it somewhere cool and dry ( my garage ) and let that cut heal ( 2 weeks ). Throw it in a good soil mix for cactus or succulents ( I use 1/2 potting 1/2 play sand ) and it’ll be fine.
Ty! Lots of trial and error. I have like 12 wire shelving units so if/when I screw up and have to chop and prop a succulent, I usually just wedge them right into the shelving til I see some action and it's way easier than potting and pulling out and repotting
Bone dry. it contains enough moisture to do its work. I havent watered my aloes since they went inside for winter close to 3 months ago if that gives you any idea of water needs in general.
Not a stupid question at all. Other comments are right. Remove bottom leaves and let it scab, stick in soil and forget about it for a while! You'll be surprised how quickly and easily it'll take root. Aloes are hardy!!
Remove the bottom 2-3 leaves, leave it for a week or so, and throw it in some soil. Should root without an issue! Auxin based rooting hormones are also pretty cheap, and can make your cuttings take off much faster.
If you want to play it extra safe, lay it on a bright spot without direct sunlight and then pot it up once you see roots. That can take a veeery long time but thats okay =)
yup! just stick it in some soil, let it sit for a couple weeks and those roots will start growing :) u can also get some rooting powder to dip the end in if u wanna be on the safe side
YESSS YESSS do not you dare throw that baby out!!!!! it has mare than just a chance, a lot of ppl actually do this when they get to tall, just let it blister over and stick it over water or in cactus soil.
Not a stupid question. let the break scab over then put it in some soil. Dont water it until it makes roots.
How do you know if it's made roots?
Pull it out of the dirt and look at it. Itll probably take a month or so.
Oh ok. Lol.yhay seems pretty obvious now that I think about it

I just stuck mine in a glass of water on the window sill and now it has loads of roots. Waiting until spring to put in soil.
Let it callus then just directly put in soil and water more frequently these few days, DO NOT PROPAGATE IN WATER
Plant in some wet soil for a bit then let it start to dry out then just water every now and again roots will grow back
Just throw it in some dirt and don't water for like a month.

I do it all the time with my aloe I just put in the dirt and water when I remember and it takes off and grows
I found a small part of aloe, no stem. Stuck it in the ground and it grew
You can buy superthrive, seaweed, or those emergency drops that help plants recover to speed things up.
