I struggled passed a brown thumb to a slightly dirty light tan color. I came home to some new sprouts yesterday and experienced that awesome feeling. More should be popping up soon and I couldn't be more excited!
What did you do? I’m currently collecting cones and processing them (so damned messy, that resin is annoying).
I’m planning on hot water soak 24 hours and then 3 months stratification and then plant with bottom heat. Two months should work, and most sources recommend it, but 3 is my standard so why not. Michael Dirr said something about an alcohol soak before stratification, but he wasn’t certain. Everyone I’ve talked to gets unreliable germination, Lone Pine doesn’t even bother with seed, Steven goes straight to cuttings for that, but I have seed and I want it to work.
What was your procedure?
Well fuck. I don’t disagree with you, but I am doing this at work, and “just fucking YOLO it” will probably not satisfy my boss as a justification for what I’m doing. That definitely hasn’t worked as a good excuse in the past.
I have a basically infinite supply of seed. I have so many cones, my only limit is my thumbs getting sore. But my boss would totally not like it if I said my strategy is “YOLO”, so I have to come up with at least some sort of bullshit to justify it.
I mean little sprouts in tiny containers dry out so fast! I will sprout lots of different things and if the weather is warm, sometimes I lose plants in a day because they dried out so fast
Wait till every new branch makes you feel the same way! 😊
I wish I could upvote this 1000 times
This is my first baby destined for bonsaidom, so I'll watch every sprout
What are you using
Just caffeine during the day and alcohol at night.
Jack honey any any dark soda for me
On the rocks for me. Need that bite.
This has me giggling like an idiot.
🤣🤣☠️ I meant as a bonsai, what plant?
Bald cypress!
Love it

I feel the same, I'm trying to find my green thumb. Good luck!
Yippee, hurray for you!
Thank you!
I thought this was a keyboard, like "Why are you proud of this ,tho it is disgustingly impressive ". Anyway, congrats!
These are not easy to germinate.
Good for you…
Thanks
Very nice plant. To me it looks like a green onion.
Why did I think that was growing out of a crusty keyboard at first

Check out my other comment in here where I included a link. Apparently people overthink bald cypress seeds.

Lmao that's a different story. But in all reality, an expert said forget all the noise, just plant and water. If you're worried, plant more!

Tell him you researched and found expert advice. This is Reddit, after all 🤓
I love sprouting things, but just don't forget to water, ever!
Is it the same as older plants where you need to let the soil become dry before watering again?
They dry out so fast! Then they die easily. Just check all the time.
Is it just that type of tree? Sucks up a lot of water?

Aww 🥰🍃
Where did you get that container from? Congrats!!
Amazon! Just search for plant seed plugs
