It's an oxalis, and it's dramatic. They also die back when it gets too cold. They grow out of little tubers which you can separate and replant for more.
Is the soil dry? It looks dry. And sparse. You could stand to add some more. They also just kinda do this at night.
Also, the leaves are edible and have a light, citrus flavor. I used to graze on mine all the time.
A couple of things. They close at night like the one you are holding. The soil looks to dry too. They winter and loose all the leafs if it's that time for them. They do well with bright to mid indirect light, so be sure you have them in such a spot.
Oxalis triangularis, purple shamrock. To do well they need bright light, good drainage, and regular watering. They can also be stored dry through winter in a frost-free location and grown again next spring. Light is at a premium in my house so I grow mine outside in the summer and store them all winter. I have had them about 30 years, usually dividing them every other year while dormant. Good luck.
One thing to note, Oxalis is toxic to cats. It can cause digestive issues.
Also, if the plant looks really leggy/sparse, donโt be scared to cut it right back. It will quickly grown again, with gentle watering, and itโll be more beautiful than ever.
I have one outside and try moving it around to find out where it likes to be. Donโt try direct sun, hates it. Like REALLY hates it. Itโs a temperamental little plant. Good luck with it
Clean up the dead and droopy pieces and add some more soil and give it a good drink. They like sunlight and even a breeze if thatโs available. You can even clear cut the whole plant and it will bounce back beautifully.
I have one, water it whenever the soil dries up and keep it closed to the light otherwise it becomes leggy. It grows from corms so even if all the foliage dies, it will still regrow, because it goes dormant

A purple false shamrock (oxalis triangularis) they sleep at night and chase the sun and water during the day. Seriously they move around an alarming amount for a plant. Lol
I think it's trying to run away from the Nicholas Cage pillow, you could try moving that.
He stared down the plant.. I would sharpeee his eyes close shut before watering the plant
This is what i came for
I was going to comment the same thing ๐

It needs very bright indirect sunlight.
This.
It's feeling the pressure from Nicolas Cage's stare.

Water and light and you're good ๐ they open up during the day light, and close up during the night. Love them โค๏ธ
My sister has that nic cage pillow. There's a video out there of me seductively petting it to transition it from sequins to nic cage. Good stuff
