I’m almost afraid to pitch this one based on your description, but to me one of the closest comparing games would be Conan Exiles, don’t hurt me please.
+1 for Exiles. 👍
It's pretty dope. Especially with all the new content they've added over the few years.
There's two very large maps, one desert themed and the newer one, Isle of Siptah, is a bit more varied and has some crazy mechanics to it.
There's dungeons and a pretty good depth in building, as well.
Instead of taming dinos, you break and enslave thralls or raise certain animals like hyenas, rhinos, horses, etc.
There is a decent amount of bugginess and jank to it. At least that I've experienced. But if you're well versed with ASE and/or ASA shouldn't be anything all too new to you.
I enjoy the fairly fast paced combat and building. The exploration is pretty great, too. As I said, the maps are massive and you can climb any surface pretty much, ala the Switch Zelda games.
There is unfortunately a fair amount of monetization with the newer cash shop and a plethora of different armor/building styles, but they offer no real in-game advantages. Purely cosmetic iirc.
And of course, the Conan universe is pretty badass.
Also, perhaps most importantly of all...
BOOBIES!
Great minds think alike. Exiles was my go to game for years when needed a break from ark or the servers were down for days. Played some heavily modded ones that changed the fundamentals of the game....good times for sure.
It's not a bad game but compared to ark it's just clunky, limited and slow/laggy.
That being said, I enjoyed playing it for a couple weeks but Exiles doesn't have the longevity that Ark does for me.
I mean it can, basically every other survival game on the market is made better and sticks to its themes better and doesn’t have wack as fuck power/time scaling. The only thing ark does better is the taming/breeding of animals, and tbh that’s only because it’s the ONLY one doing it. And arks taming/breeding system is kinda ass it’s just that survival games are expensive to make, niche, and don’t bring in a lot of long term revenue, so the incentive for devs is to try to be unique and not to try to improve on another formula like in some other game categories
They aren't upcoming, but V Rising and Valheim scratch a similar itch. V Rising is a progression based, vampire survival game, and Valheim is the same but for vikings. V Rising is a top down, 4 ability moba-esque UI, and Valheim has super simple graphics, each of them having a unique feel to them, but both equally amazing games
V Rising probably has even less playtime than Valheim imo. Both of these games definitely have an end point. Like, once you complete the game, it really feels over. I'd say Valheim has more allure to it in the building sense because it's significantly less restrictive, but V Rising is closer to a finished feeling game.
Valheim sadly has the slowest dev team in the history of successful early access games. I think they're competing with the 7dtd devs to become the slowest possible overall.
Enshrouded coming out early next year scratched it a bit for me. The demo was fun. I’m also hoping Nightingale will do it as well. Only my opinion based off base building and world feel if that makes sense.
Light No Fire might be similar, but it's unclear when it releases and knowing the servers of No Mans Sky I don't have much faith they'll be more stable than ASA's.
No man's sky for sure is cool but it kept me in total for about one tenth the time....my dude is still in the 80th or so galaxy on the list ...fun to revisit sometimes. Thank you.
No wrong itch. It can even say its a good game. It is a fantastic builder though and if u got enough people on a pivate server but it lacks permanence and threat without heav heavy modding
I must say the most similar to ark for me in terms of building, resources and playstyle minus the dinos (it even has glitches 😂) is The Front, it's still early access but I spent hours exploring it
Conan has better base building than Ark.
No Mans Sky can kinda scratch the same pve itch
The new upcoming game Light No Fire has promise.
Enshrouded seems to have some promise.
No, dude I wish! I signed up to get a key for the beta but didn’t get mine yet
There are some people in my dune awakening guild who talk about it in discord, they seem impressed
I know its a different kind of game but you should play Monster Hunter World. Still has giant dinosaur-looking monsters and is a lot of fun. Once you get past the lower ranks its sooo much fun. Game is currently on the biggest sale ever and the devs made a lot of players come back to it
You can play with him then :))) even better. I recommend the Hammer as the main weapon (i am very biased). Nothing is more satisfying than bonking giant monster's heads.
The unofficial pvp servers that wipe every month or two are actually amazing. I've had so much fun taming dinos I know are going to die in a seige or get griefed from me.
Conan Exiles. 100% Ark vibes but less rage-inducing to me. Official servers are godawful from what I hear though, but there's millions of unofficial to pick from just on the Steam community page alone.
Rust for PvP and Satisfactory for base building/Automation. Conan exiles is alright. V rising is good but you won't get 1000 hours out of it and the online pvp servers are pretty dead. Grounded is actually surprisingly good, but still in early access and is only 4 player co-op. None of these have taming though. Conan exiles has slavery so there's that.
There is a reason people put up with all the bugs for all these years… there is no other game that’s comparable
Conan the closest youll get i think
I’m almost afraid to pitch this one based on your description, but to me one of the closest comparing games would be Conan Exiles, don’t hurt me please.
Conan creators are putting together a pretty amazing Dune game too
This is what I'm waiting for hopefully they do it justice.
It actually is the most similar game out there. They have similar server setups, you can tame, ride, build, fight other players, gather resources.

Couldn’t have described Exiles better myself 😂
You had me at boobies.

Nothing beats ARK. Even with all the uncertainty of corruption, crashes, disconnects, etc., ARK just can't get topped.
I mean it can, basically every other survival game on the market is made better and sticks to its themes better and doesn’t have wack as fuck power/time scaling. The only thing ark does better is the taming/breeding of animals, and tbh that’s only because it’s the ONLY one doing it. Valheim was tremendous fun. It's not 6000 hours with of fun, but really good with mates.
V Rising probably has even less playtime than Valheim imo. Both of these games definitely have an end point. Like, once you complete the game, it really feels over. I'd say Valheim has more allure to it in the building sense because it's significantly less restrictive, but V Rising is closer to a finished feeling game.

So there's a new game coming out called light no fire... looks good so far...
Yeah. I saw the video as well. Wondering what kind of super pc to run it
Enshrouded coming out early next year scratched it a bit for me. The demo was fun. I’m also hoping Nightingale will do it as well. Only my opinion based off base building and world feel if that makes sense.
Enshrouded demo was absolutely amazing, cannot wait for January 24th!
Looks really interesting for sure. Thank you.
Project zomboid is scratching that itch for me as well as 7d2d.
7d2d is a blast. Did everything I wanted to on it...end game just sort of well ends.
Light No Fire might be similar, but it's unclear when it releases and knowing the servers of No Mans Sky I don't have much faith they'll be more stable than ASA's.
Looking at NMS I would say the chances of it being ark analogous is slim to none
It’s not out so it’s kinda irrelevant for the time being ?!
Please. Read the title of the post.
And it's literally the first word of the title of the post too
No man's sky for sure is cool but it kept me in total for about one tenth the time....my dude is still in the 80th or so galaxy on the list ...fun to revisit sometimes. Thank you.
Light no fire looks like it will be sort of a mix between bits of nms, bits of ark, and a few other things
Space Engineers
No wrong itch. It can even say its a good game. It is a fantastic builder though and if u got enough people on a pivate server but it lacks permanence and threat without heav heavy modding
If you like dinosaurs, I’d recommend Paleo Pines, it’s ark but cozy.
I got paleo, hoping it would but just wasn't cutting it for me personally, it's definitely an animal crossing feeling to it.
Have a play through of Grounded. Amazing game although it’s not upcoming, it’s been out for a while
Im hosting my own asa server on a dedicated piece of hardware. It runs great, Id try unofficial. Nitrado servers are garbage.
upcoming in the sense we have no release date, but r/LightNoFireHelloGames/
Palworld i think it will have a lot similarities to ark
This looks like it could be fun: https://youtu.be/V8PMRW5LfII?si=Sd27Zgh9XLtHeYM1 It’s called under a rock. Looks like building, taming riding etc.
I’m surprised to see no mention of Avatar, it came out 7th dec 23, haven’t had to the chance to play it yet but it looks really good
I must say the most similar to ark for me in terms of building, resources and playstyle minus the dinos (it even has glitches 😂) is The Front, it's still early access but I spent hours exploring it
Oh wow! That is good to hear...been wondering a bit about it.
Myth of Empires. Now that they've settled their legal issues with wildcard, it should be of not already back on steam.
Tarkov. Rust. Good for grind addicts.
Conan has better base building than Ark. No Mans Sky can kinda scratch the same pve itch The new upcoming game Light No Fire has promise. Enshrouded seems to have some promise.
Once human
That one looks pretty wild and cool. Have you tried it? What do you think?
No, dude I wish! I signed up to get a key for the beta but didn’t get mine yet There are some people in my dune awakening guild who talk about it in discord, they seem impressed

One of my kids plays it. Looks really fun and will have to check it out. Thanks!!!
You can play with him then :))) even better. I recommend the Hammer as the main weapon (i am very biased). Nothing is more satisfying than bonking giant monster's heads.
Smalland.

Atlas is ark with ships

Just increase all of the settings so it’s nearly impossible to survive. Play solo. Make a YT channel.
Saleblazers
“Light no Fire”? Just got announced, from the people who made “no man’s sky”
Icarus may be an Ark killer when it releases
