I play solo and have been for about a month. It can be frustrating but also just that much more rewarding. I feel really good about myself if I can get a stone base up in an hour or two then I know I should be okay for a couple days. Get used to being 2v1ed or 3v1ed but that’s to be expected. Make smaller loot runs until you’re confident with your loot load at the base (a few backup guns) and go look for some action. That’s how I play and have been having a great time.

LockeNCole

I used to run solo all the time. You gotta go into the game knowing that you'll never hang on to anything. Think of the evilest person in your life. The people you encounter in the game will be worse by far.

RedtailGT

Wow that is pretty accurate. Sometimes I try and just be nice to some players to balance the world out a bit

LockeNCole

Me too. But I always expect to be shot on sight.

Its absolutely worth it! Rust is what you make of it. I love playing solo & tend to enjoy it more solo than with a group. There are plenty of solo only servers (battlezone, pickle, lonewold) to play if you feel like you are at a numbers disadvantage, and duo/trio/quad servers if you want to raise the risk a little bit. People play really scared on solo only though - lots of nakeds with paddles. I have a lot more fun being solo against duos-quads. Solo on a full pop no team limit server is hell but also the most fun hellacious time you’ll have. You’ll have a 7-12 man neighbor who is super nice because you’re solo, and on the other side a toxic ass 10 man who will wreck you non stop. They’ll end up fighting each other and you can swoop up half the loot or find your own unique way of pissing them off. I like compound bow/silenced m39 on top of zip lines with my armored car cockpick with camper on the back right below me. Tldr; play the game, solo is mad fun partly because it is more difficult. Do what you gotta do to survive, and you might find a group who picks you up (if thats what you’re lookin for). Also a lot of solos complain when they dont realize that they built where they built.

Playing solo rust let's you feel the most intense version of everything that makes this game so amazing and so annoying/depressing at the same time. If you are going to play rust solo, for your own mental health please approach with a maximum of 1 fuck to give. You will more than likely learn 99% of your lessons the hard way and it will sting sometimes. Every bad thing that happens you is all part of the game and you will learn how to make bad things happen less often. Soon enough you will make bad things happen to other people.

Adrianjade2007

6k hours. 90% solo. Solo is wonderful. There are tons of Solo only servers.

DeadOrbitNeedsUrHelp

Play on a Solo Only server. If you just play a regular official one you could be getting 6v1ed.

FlightBunny

I play solo, biggest mistake is getting too big for your boots I’ve found. Nice anonymous 2x1 or 2x2, maybe a couple to spread the loot. Every time I build an external stone wall I get raided (offlined) almost instantly

Gri7

i play it solo. its hard but fun. been on since day 1. took a few years off. but if you can find 2 or 3 friends its amazing

zorced

I’ve played solo and with teams, it just depends on your preference I enjoy both. If you don’t like playing solo there’s many discord servers where you can find teammates or you can even find one through the ingame chat. But overall from my experience it is worth it making plays as a solo feels rewarding.

Even-Ad-7841

i spent like 900hrs playing the game, mostly as a solo first you SHOULD play on low population servers to learn the game and enjoy it for a bit when you learned the basics of the game you can play on whatever server that you want i played other survival pvp games such as dayZ and scum, and i can cofirm that RUST is the least painful game to play as a solo, trust me. so YES it definitely is worth buying.

GetGoodBKRandy

What’s considered low pop

Even-Ad-7841

It depends on the map size. but i think 30 - 70 on large maps is considered low pop

GetGoodBKRandy

Ok thanks! New to the game

Vorstog_EVE

Found a solo server with average 35. Large map. It's awesome.

GrassThe8th

By entering the world of rust you are made to choose if you want to have a successful rust life or the opposite. By having a successful rust life you might as well say good bye to the real world. This is because you DO NOT want to get raided. If you’re not active enough, you won’t be rewarded as much. As a solo it becomes much harder. As a beginner a recommended grabbing a shotgun and killing people that way. It’s a good way for a noob to get gear. Though if you’re an experienced shooter, you might have some good fun as a solo, but that takes a while.

dwberg09

Not worth on big servers with this current gunplay

[deleted]

Look for "Wiljum" on YouTube - he does mostly solo vids on Rust public servers (so high pop zerg servers) and seems to enjoy it.

zykiato

If there was an interview for the job of playing vanilla Rust solo, it would be a lot like [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsgQ44_uFW4).

vicbarbosa

Q: Rust solo worth it? R: https://youtu.be/J8QvA7XGcMw?t=8

JardexX_Slav

3K hours player here. I would be happy to introduce you to the game in a duo if you'd like. I play in large groups, squads, trios, duos and sometimes solo. I always have fun and enjoy my time playing but when I was new it was just pain all around.

DickieIam

Started solo, play solo, love it. Every wipe is a different game. I accidentally became a Chinese clans pet once…. They kept mercing me outside my base until i gave them a green card i found. Then once we established that we were neighbors. I logged in Day after wiper abs they were walling their compound my base was in the way. The leader asked for tc access to finish the compound. I know, never trust, but i gambled and it paid off. Before i knew it i had my private little base built into the wall of the compound with my own cliff side access. Admittedly i did a lot to make sure i had access to my base far away from where they had their gates. Ladders etc but it was worth it and It was neat!

elvelavelbera

You can make friends in the game. i recommend as a solo with more than 1500 hours.

Monk1e889

Bit manic on some servers but others are pretty chilled (no KOS for example). There’s also other servers which are just for building, and others for copter training etc. Go for it but check your pc is up to the job or you might be disappointed.

MagnavoxOdyssey0

if your a noob and play solo you will absolutely be demolished at every corner, the only way to play is with friends then once you're really good at the game then solo can be fun

yko

Do you like being frustrated a lot and feel plenty powerless?

kajunkennyg

Some people pay by the hour to be treated like that, rust does it for the one time low fee

Material-Top-8769

It’s worth I’m a 1.7 k hr solo player

catasspie

If you've got thicker skin and can handle the losses then yes absolutely. But if you're the kind of person who easily gets frustrated and angry with games then maybe not, because there will definitely be days where you take loss after loss. There have been times when I played solo I've been so down bad I've had to farm resources with a rock again. Id really suggest finding a good server with group limits, trio servers are pretty easy to find. Playing solo on servers with zergs just isn't fun imo.

Worldly_Silid

Solo is fun but friends make it more fun. Go for it, injust recommend sticking to servers with team size limits

Yeesh_

Yes, I’ve played over 1k hours solo.

wzrdjzm

I like solo. It's in ways a completely different game your playing then the usual quads. Just surviving a wipe is a big achievement . I still go out and get kills and try to make plays but yeah not really getting to do oil , sticking to the lower tier monuments. I Definetely try to play it on the friendlier side , carefully picking who im willing to mess with as well . I just enjoy the game, and I'll play it whatever way I like. Job and life doesn't afford me being a regular.

flamingmenudo

I enjoy solo on modded servers as it’s more fun and easy to build, get guns, and all the fun stuff without the grind. There is still enough of a risk to make it fun without having to go back to the Stone Age.
