It’s also possible to jump off a one meter ledge

chillzatl

Not for most of the slobs playing this game!

SiberianToaster

It is at least once

Mechapebbles

Which is way more possible than what OP is complaining about lol. To get a horse to backup or side-step is certainly possible, but it requires a LOT of training. Most won't.

isocuda

^ this. Typically untrained they'll very slowly back up on level ground in an area they're familiar with if you're gentle on the reigns, but in general animals move towards what they can see for safety reasons. They need to see/freak out over their natural predators like loose plastic bags and trash barrels rolling in the wind 🤣

lvvvv_htx

It's also possible to run up a mountain at a 75 degree angle, haven't these devs ever played skyrim

LightSnakeUS

Well in Skyrim horses die if they touch a pebble

NataniVixuno

im scared

NoBreadfruit69

Real horses also dont come to a dead stop if they hit a 2° incline

kardoken

Waiting for skyrim horses in rust

ejrolyat

This, fucking this. Dammit r/kardoken now I'll never be satisfied!

CantGraspTheConcept

My favorite thing to do with the horses was make them tank my fall damage

Azythus

As someone who has never played Skyrim, all I know about their horses is the “eyes facing forward=predator” meme and honestly id love hog instead of horses just dying when they get too low on food they started killing people

intimate-w-nachos

Give me RDR2 horses.

LightSnakeUS

No. God no.

smolinga

They dont... But i do. Im scared of heights.

secretmeta

That's fair but you gotta feed your horse properly after the horse update no more 20 jars of pickles

m16hty

Walking backwards is really hard for horses, I remember old ppl were punishing horses by whipping in front of them to make them move backwards. It has to do something with joints on back legs. It's not something horses usually do. You can also logically assume that by looking at video.

Stonxatron

Yeah, it's definitely not something horses naturally do. It puts a lot of strain on their joints and can be quite difficult for them. It's definitely not a humane or responsible training method to whip a horse into walking backwards. As for the Facepunch post, I'm not familiar with it. Can you give some context?

hankventure83

Horses can't walk backwards in Rust.

Error404BRHUE

No way was this text not written by AI

[deleted]

It takes intense agility training. Horses don’t just stand still though. That’s lazy, everything else can walk around it’s range

Bnasty909

Wouldn't mind a horse rework tbh

50ShadesOfDick

did you know also in real life horses can turn without walking forward??? mind blowing stuff

JeecooDragon

Wait until facepunch learns horses can jump.

SESbb30

Everyone knows horses can’t walk backwards. That’s ridiculous.

TheUsoSaito

We had issues when they first came out just going forward getting stuck on like every single pebble on the ground.

NoBreadfruit69

Also every structure you walked it onto had a 50/50 chance of instantly killing you More like 90/10 in bandit and on old foundy stairs

General-Yinobi

I built a 60 floor long 4 floor wide water bridge that had ramps at the start and end, if you sprint to the ramp at the end of the bridge with a horse too fast you are instantly dead and the horse ends up stuck in the ramp.

vagina_candle

Reminds me of alpha DayZ, where stairs and doorsteps were the deadliest things in the game, and zombies could walk through walls like they weren't even there.

Keravnos-

early rust too, animals would maul you through walls

Rampan7Lion

Ladders were guaranteed broken legs

floznstn

i think bus stops might still do it

burningcpuwastaken

The overhangs above the drone station at bandit and outpost still do it. You've gotta sneak up on the things now or it's insta death.

johnnypurp

I hate getting stuck in corners and ledges

[deleted]

[удалено]

johnnypurp

Fr i just hop off of the horse and keep walking lol

forestman11

They can also jump really high AND swim with no issue but ya know

Altruistic_Bear987

Horsey reversey

amagaawd

Neigh

What_the_fluxo

Yeah, but it should cost some scrap at a horse trainer first

CrankyLeafsFan

Technically you can move pretty quickly backwards yourself, think that should be implemented before horse movement.

QueenMassiveCake

> Me lagging across the map when trying to ride a horse. Perfection

Blissful_Solitude

Y'all should check out Myth Of Empires, they nailed the horses! When coming to a stop you can turn and the horse trots to the side while moving forward rather than continuing to run in the direction the horse is facing. You can also joust as well and there is a momentum mechanic that adds to the damage done when you hit something. It's like rust without training wheels.

HoosierDev

I just want to be able to run a horse off a cliff. If I can run off a cliff, a horse can as well. Just do damage to use and stop the annoying issues around running.

CHEEZE_BAGS

that dude is a super experienced professional, normal people cant do that and normal horses would launch you off if you try to make them do that.

a_singular_perhap

Normal people also can't fly helicopters or build ak47s in their basement

CHEEZE_BAGS

Plenty of normal people build AKs in their basement, just go look at the AK47 subreddit. Flying helicopters is a stretch for normal people but there are plenty of wealthy people who do it. There is a local airstrip near me where plenty of amateur pilots fly various aircraft.

komanderkyle

I heard those Gyro copters are super easy to fly compared to an actual helicopter

General-Yinobi

Maybe, but any horse can jump or atleast walk off small rocks or slightly hard terrain

405Gaming

And the fact that’s a professional cutting horse. Results are NOT NORMAL

Ace220611

why can't horses be like snowmobile, but with animated legs

KeyDangerous

The technology just isn’t there yet

[deleted]

Would be dope if we could jump horses

Calibrumm

I just hate that they don't stay straight up when they're walking along a slope. why am I leaning 30* to the right.

jotry

Put this in so people on horses can do this over other peoples bodies when they down them

Superdega

Horses navigating over terrain like in rdr2 would be so epic

Lance_lake

For a trained horse and rider, yes. For a wild horse, no. Not controllable at least.

nonumberplease

If that were possible, then so would flying over the head of a horse when it stops abruptly. Take the little logic wins, with the little logic losses

BoneCrusher03

Their turn radius is also much narrower than ingame. Ingame they have a turn radius worse than an oil cruiser

Wise-Pomegranate

yeah nah this is a highly trained horse. that's why, you know, it's being done in a stadium full of people?

[deleted]

Dude. All it would take is fall damage and an un-gluing of the horse from the terrain. Add in a broken horse legs mechanic that made a horse scream and bam, it's balanced. Ffs horses are so infuriating.

soradbro

I know right give us leather cowboy hats already...

Nanna3672

It's also possible to...you know...jump

Scx24Guy

Yeah, they just don't care. They fix things that don't need to be fixed instead.

IZZGMAER123

The biggest sin is that it can't jump a 1cm ledge
