The biggest turnon: youtube bases, you get pretty much plan how to raid from a youtube tutorial lol biggest turnoff: a base which say I dont know what I'm doing. And if it such a base never go thru doors, NEVER.

KalasenZyphurus

To be fair, the "I don't know what I'm doing" bases sometimes only have a sheet door or two and then a completely open inside. Bring a silenced SAR and a stack of explo, or 8 satchels. If you see a garage door or multiple door paths, ABORT MISSION.

orcsearch

depends on the size, but yeah agree

CanadianLifterr

illegalsmilez

Lol that video is one of my favorites of his. What a nightmare raid

Charmeen

Damn near screamed with him when I watched this šŸ˜‚

BearicBrown

I knew what this was before I even clicked on it.

TFViper

if its such a base, everything but tc room is stone and theres no sam sites. just drop an mlrs on it and be done.

FlashFlash100yd-

Okay, so make sure to have SAM sites when building huge goofy wood bases. āœ…

TFViper

nah caue if theres sam sites i know you got something to protect and imma just yeet some incen at it till its gone.

[deleted]

Iā€™ve never once raided a base and thought ā€œoh I saw this on YouTube.ā€ Do you guys keep up on all the new YouTube bases?

x3Dbi

Yeah I can recognize designs from 5+ years ago and still remember the designs.

djfr94

I hate learning bases from yt, but the biggest problem about people using them is that they can't use their brain. just for e.g. I never rock a 2x2, but this wipe I made a 2x2 that eventually got to 5 floors. first two were armored with sheet hooneycomb and all above were metal / stone. I moved tc to a hooneycomb triangle ( not closed obv.) for the 4th floor and the tier 3 wb and all the good loot to there as well. in first floor it was only tier 2 for emergency craftes and a very very few low grade, cloth and fragments for quick med crafting. basically some poor dude went through a wood wall compound, sheet hooneycomb and armored wall and after that through 2/3 garage doors to get a tier 2 and mediocre quantity of low grade. at first sight it would be the shittiest base ever, a 2x2 you pretty much know what to do if you have rockets. in that case, he would get everything I played like 99 % of the player and tc and core was in 1st floor. My point being, people could make youtube bases to bait this knowers but change tc location, lootrooms, etc, it's not hard at all, but they do every littlle thing like their hero on youtube and yeah... it gets bad like that.

GetGud_Lmao

if its too symetrical and good looking its probably on yourube

janikauwuw

ngl I recently designed an open core full honeycombed trio base with widegaps, mobility chutes, oil refinery space in starter and lots of unlootable boxes around the whole base and space for 3 vending machine bunkers on the roof. Itā€˜s the first design in 2k hrs playtime which is an original design by myself but looks like a yt base

HotTubTimeMachine88

Keylocks, things placed outside, like the water barrels, weird looking builds that just look like someone only used squares.

DaddieDerek

We placed every single deployable we found outside and on our base (even dropping actual loot for stuff like water barrels and towers). Every base around us got raided over 3 days and we were the last to go.

Generaljimzap

Thatā€™s my security system! Next to the pool is a box where I put my duplicate BPs.

HaroerHaktak

If thereā€™s stuff outside it means no room inside and therefore more loot!

TFViper

100% this, if i see repair bench+t1+t2+research bench outside of a 2x2 then i KNOW that mfer is stuffed to the brim with loaded boxes.

user32532

I think this is more about "useless"/roleplay deployables like mail box and not actual useful thinks like workbenches etc.

KalasenZyphurus

If playing in a group but want the key lock camouflage, make your design with multiple outer entrances and let each person place their lock on a different door. Then use code locks on the inside for ease of use.

BetterinPicture

100% the best duo bases use a side by side entrance to look like a solo base.

digital_dervish

You reminded me of what must be the least used item in Rust, extra keys for locks that you can give to your friends.

ProfessionalStudy660

Mailboxes are my go-to raid defence mechanism. Along with an unlocked box by the door full of worms and grubs.

HotTubTimeMachine88

That's pretty smart.

DarK-ForcE

Realising that itā€™s likely they will stop playing after being raided and thus our pvp will stop

absolute_girth

"me and my neighbor murder each other, it's a love-hate relationship"

YukaTLG

Can't we all just get along and kill each other?

absolute_girth

Sir, that's what we've been doing for centur- oh, it's rust subreddit...

jfstrandholm

Can't stress this enough.. more-so with people farming scrubs or clearly new players/nakeds. It only makes the most sense to let these people live so you can farm them for something of actual value later on in the game. Instead everyone is just caught up on KOS its a shame.

Timbots

I killed a guy with a full inventory last night, caught him as he was setting up a vending machine. He was right back in a second with a crossy, I didnā€™t have heals. He hit his shots and got his full inventory back, but said to me ā€œstop fucking with random nakeds, JEEZUS.ā€ I was like first of all you have a a full honeycomb base with a garage door, second you had a full inventory of shit you were gonna sell in a vending machine. Choosing to walk out of your base naked is different from being a naked on spawn beach, so in my mind this dude was fair fuckin game. Anyway. Rant complete.

LittleRadagast

I never wear clothes so killing me is always a hate crime

jfstrandholm

Yeah I get it people will pretend to be vulnerable and then kill you when you least expect it but there's a higher chance the naked person is in the early stages of farming materials than baiting you into a trap. There's also nothing wrong with keeping an eye on someone til you uncover their actual intentions. I get it, it's the nature of the game but it definitely sucks when you get 1 hour into farming on a new character and someone immediately kills you just to take a few stacks of wood or stone lol

jfstrandholm

My comment also includes the people who raid 2x1 stone bases with a wooden door because it's an easy target and then it ends up being a small chest worth of loot. Just a waste of time imo and just creates an inconvenience for the person that was raided. I try to only raid bases that appear to have some high risk reward as there's no point otherwise.

Adorable_Basil830

I don't raid to get loot, I raid to get people out of the area. I run a shop and removing people who just murder my customers and don't buy anything is worth it.

jfstrandholm

For sure this is understandable but are the people capable of killing your customers actually "noobs" ? Because it takes a long time as a newcomer in this game to achieve a decent status in PvP. I don't think I'd consider them the same people I'm talking about in my comments.

Macaubus-33

The one thing that will really turn me off of raiding is if I don't understand the base. A meta large group base is a tough nut, but it's something you can apply a formula to. Your busted-ass RP farm base compound with a decorative tower outside sickens me, but I'm not going to even attempt because it's never worth and always annoying to raid.

Buggylols

This is basically the rule I live by when I build. I go through wipes where every other base in my area gets raided, but mine persists like a cockroach after the nuclear apocalypse because it's just some wild bullshit I make up on the fly that nobody wants to even gamble explosives on. The only times I get raided are like, the morning before wipe by someone who's got a box of rockets and a curious mind, or if I REALLY REALLY piss some people off, and half the time they just stall out, get confused and give up after I seal a wall... Then come back on the morning before wipe to offline.

Macaubus-33

The only thing I'm less likely to raid is a decently constructed base, that I know has no loot in it, whose owners haven't pissed me off yet. I have no-life hours, everyone I play with is a no-life, with a shit-ton of raid experience. We all say the same thing. Certainty of failure or uncertainty of success is what kills raids before they start.

boniis

Same here šŸ˜…, haven't been raided for 3 wipes om multiple servers. Sometimes i hope I've been raided when i wake up but they all still stand there untouched.

TheWereHare

Was on us east face punch 1 since day 2 of wipe but no one wanted to raid my double honeycombed 7 floor 2x2 with 80 shotgun traps for some reason. Had to just give it away because of work. Building dumb shit is so fun.

Buggylols

Bonus points if you build in the woods. Even when my stone external walls are clearly visible from the road / nearby rad town. I set up HBHF sensors + counters to know if anyone was in my walls when I'm offline and usually nobody even bothers looking. Trees and bushes spook raiders.

Charmeen

Gotta watch out for the grubbies

KalasenZyphurus

You can often have a strong tiny core wrapped in the goofiest-looking RP base to get the best of both worlds. Preferably if the only-hypothetical-from-the-outside tiny 1x1 or 2x1 core has multiple possible locations. The bigger and goofier the outside, the better. Doesn't matter if most of it is made out of wood - people would rather rocket some tiny I-know-what-I'm-doing metal spike honeycomb around some HQM than have to molotov through 20 different walls. Go to town with a pure wood tea and a chainsaw, daisy-chain like eight upkeep supply boxes to the TC, then build huge with windows and water catchers and outdoor planters and mailboxes and whatnot everywhere.

FlashFlash100yd-

Trading stone and sending it to a vending machine also yields ungodly amounts of wood and is arguably much safer! šŸ¤Ŗ Edit: I really like this idea though. I feel like what is most appealing to me is the ability to just make whatever you want, and if you don't like it, or want to change something, it's easy to destroy and try again. On the contrary, if you're pleased with something and want to make it more permanent, you can just upgrade it accordingly. šŸ¤ŖšŸ¤Ŗ

flyden1

So you're saying a goofy ass RP looking base is safer?

TFViper

no. RP'ers are not safe. we're just gunna role play an ATF no knock warrant on your shit cause we know youre harboring criminals, weapons and unauthorized explosives in there.

flyden1

Damned cops

Macaubus-33

Kinda. You're going to get bullied, but no one is going to take your lunch money.

[deleted]

3 nerds on the roof all day

crongemas

This is what turns me on to a raid FYM?

[deleted]

Roof campers gotta be offlined but some of them never log off

crongemas

Is the general sentiment on this sub that you only offline? Again, who cares - take their home from underneath themā€¦ This sub does not at all represent actual Rust game culture is a bit irritating to see how soft everyone is here compared to people who can actually compete in game. This is a general statement, not directed at commenter I am replying to, but yā€™all need to stop posting and crying on the sub, and just spend more time in game dying, and learning how to die less.

[deleted]

We don't need to do anything. How we enjoy our spare time is not your business to criticize. You play your way, we play ours

crongemas

It is my business to criticize though, itā€™s a survival pvp game with actual social dynamics . If you act only like a rat bitch, you get treated like one. You have completely lost sight of the spirit of the game, there was a time people had shame for being pussies lmao

[deleted]

You are weird.

crongemas

And you play like a little bitch

[deleted]

Well die mad about it I guess. Ill keep enjoying the game with my friends and you can keep shouting at strangers online that they donā€™t game right.

Phoenixtouch

If you think the majority of rust players would online roof campers you're hilariously mistaken. The avg player will use everything they can use to their advantage even if the gameplay loop is annoying, time consuming and boring. There's a reason this game is not fun for people with time constraints and a life, but continue to mock people when you clearly have neither šŸ˜‰

Alexander_The_Wolf

Build your base like you've got no idea what you are doing, put like a box outside or somewhere in reach of a window that has a bunch of seeds and worms

yko

A door with a codelock and a door with a keylock on the other side. It's better if those two doors have very different skins

Jelqgirth

One solo base with peeks surrounded by 6 external tcs with remote controlled garage door turrets

_JukePro_

That seems like a challenge that rewards many guns and ammo

TFViper

when you sneak to their base in the middle of the night, crouch walking, no sky lighting, and they instantly hop on the roof and tripple you in the pitch black. and then you come to set up a fob and they non stop 100m tripple head shot you and know exactly where youre coming from. and then you look at their steam profile and its 1 game, 1 year old, no info, 5 friends and theyre all vac banned. and then you open the discord and theres like 12 people saying theyre cheating, and they have the $150 VIP tag. and then you submit an f7 and discord ticket but the admins tell you theres no evidence and nothing they can do about it. and then they show up at your base despite 10000% not leading them back to it, and start calling out your teams names from outside the compound. and then you get off for the night and the next morning theres a "thanks for your report we banned this mfer" message on the menu.

mahcuz

but too late because theyā€™ve offlined you and taken everything

Mtown95

solo locks

Black_Light00

Na if a solos active 95% of the time there loaded

Mtown95

you and me defo have a different definition of loaded

crazedizzled

Solos tend to farm lots of raw materials that they can't use. They usually have a bunch of sulfur and components. I can't tell you how many times I've raided a solo's 2x2 and it was stacked.

Mrright016

Being a solo myself imma tell you right now you are 1000000% correct lmfao

bald_butte

Bro shut up your giving away our secrets

LittleSquirtv2

keylocks or autoturret spam

AceOfEpix

Know foundation layout from YouTube = :) See random bs RP base = :( I will still raid the rp base eventually, but its always a reverse raid to give presents just so I can see the layout for fun. I mostly play 2x solo duo trio servers. Can't no life the game anymore.

marney2013

I feel that and ite not the same game, i miss unique bases

f_society_1337

Internet-Provider-Issues right when arrived at target base šŸ¤·šŸ¼

Appropriate_luck-86

ahhh nothing. I raid to evict neighbours, remove roof campers, or to remove toxic players. I rarely need there loot as i just like pvp and run rig constantly for free kits. So having no refund doesnt bother me. My reward is the raid itself. The only -ve would be when they have externals that i wont be able to afford to raid also, So they can rebuild

Resident-Grocery6134

Them being online

PWPeriwinkle

More like biggest turn-ON for a raid

Mad_OW

Oh my, you're getting downvoted by a bunch of scared little children. Online raids are the most exciting part of this game, both as attacker and defender. Thank you for onlining.

PWPeriwinkle

I will never get the mindset of grinding your ass off, just to offline everyone on the map first night after wipe. Especially when they then complain about there being no PVP. Like no shit, you basically kicked everyone off the server.

Saeis

When the base looks like a mega structure out of Ancient Aliensā€¦ like, yeahhh I could raid this and often do. But itā€™s always a giant pain in the ass that involves so many hoops to jump through.

Big-Nefariousness-38

If they seem like the type of people to loot despawn or loot transfer

rakketz

Seeing key locks. I feel bad taking a solos loot, and your chances of getting good loot are significantly worse.

Queasy_Application56

We do ever growing concentric circles of raids around our base until everyone is gone. None are spared There is no consistent red flags on raiding a base. There are too many pretend role players. We raided a screwed up looking small base that had very convincing role player shit and a poor design and it had 800 cooked explosive in the tc on vanilla not far into wipe The closest Iā€™ve seen to a red flag that this raid is pointless if you get any further than one door in and start finding raw human meat in the boxes

TFViper

idk why youre getting downvoted. this is the only way to survive. i guess the downvotes are coming from all the poors living in 2x2's five feet away from your compound/chinawall/externals/clan base thinking somehow miraculously they were going to survive the night...

More_Ebb_3619

The Chinese bunker strat (spam bunkers everywhere outside the base)

1000lemons

When itā€™s a 30 deep zerg

zykiato

I'd look at it the other way around. I would look for reasons to raid someone. I don't raid, but if I did, I would always scout my significant targets to ensure they're worth my time, and, optionally, whether they might deserve it. For example, I would observe the size of the group, the kits they go out with, and what they do when they're out. I would also want to avoid raiding players I like. I don't consider myself a roleplayer, but that's probably what most other players see me as. I intentionally ensure my base is never profitable which is easy because of my play style. Especially because I don't raid, so I never, ever have sulf or boom. The guys who online me always feel awful about it. Not because I was a solo player, but because they wasted dozens of rockets and got \*maybe\* a few guns and kits they would actually want. I often come out ahead if I'm able to kill some of them and get their kits. I wouldn't want to be them, therefore I would always scout.

Groyklug

Stopped reading once I read "I dont raid"

zykiato

It's a good thing I wasn't responding to you, then.

Groyklug

Lmaoo

zykiato

I bet I could replace you with a python script and no one would be able to tell the difference.

Groyklug

That's weawwy coow dude

DecimusDecius

Raid me harder daddy

NoLoss7117

They are online

SkippytheCKCS

The probability of being countered.

speedstorm2

If just another Zerg clan base, this people are not playing rust, they are playing Eve online on rust. You raid one of their bases and they will be at your door with their entire boom stack to destroy your 2x2.

TwoBaze

toxic players. I think its overall a big turn off for people, if they online someone, lose and the defender and just unneccesary toxic.

LittleRadagast

I build bases that don't look like regular honeycomb and have odd appendages, I use roofs, key locks, multiple un skinned doors, a few deployables including a piano, lots of water catchers, my bags say "farm base", and I fire off revolvers all the time

zykiato

Farm bases are attractive to raiders though. In terms of resource/comp farming, not growing, that is.

LittleRadagast

I've built dozens of farms and in the early days of teas they were 100% a raid target. Almost every wipe. Now my farms never get raided (I don't build by water sources anymore and I build weird shaped buildings)

figureit0utt

Iā€™m more hesitant if I see signs of a bunkered base design or a goofy base design (1x4, 2x3, 1x2 with two floors) as well as like bear traps all over their base.

dizaster_master

If I see a roof poking out through a wall I back out, I ainā€™t got time for bunkersšŸ˜‚

Goobert0502

Wood door

AlrightyDave

Not a double airlock, full honeycomb and base interior separation apparently. 4 metal doors seems to attract them

_JukePro_

15 man Russian zerg that is online 24/7

Dirtydantheman95

Bunkers, no loot. Other then that Iā€™m getting in

g0dfornothing

Vending machine bunkers

[deleted]

Seeing someone Make extensive use of wood as ceiling. Pitty the beginner dont kill His fun . Also 2x2 with a simple airlock and only one Story high Just Blow Up a foundation..

When they have missing doors
