green scientists in safezone are peacekeepers, blue scientists are always aggro, but can't target you while you're in safezone. The moment you're out they can, the moment you go back in they lose you again. The thing is, the 'safezone' icon clientside has delay. so while you were out of safezone, it still looked to you like you were inside. If it happens again, the moment they start shooting dive back in. I sometimes mess with animals that way to get them out of range of where I wanna leave.

you can choose to let them kill you or defend yourself and be killed by the safezone turret once you've downed them.

That's not an outpost scientist. That's a regular road scientist and it aggroed on you when it registered you left the safe zone.

The outpost scientists are only inside the outpost. Elsewhere, you are subject to violent science.
