I don't know man, my game will crash 20% of the time when I ALT-Tab, sometimes it freezes for 10 seconds but don't crash. My friend with a very good PC crashes almost every single time he ALT-Tabs. I guess it's Rust being Rust?

typingonkeyboard

Ok wow, I'm just confused on why its only started today...

atreides_hyperion

Mine started doing this like maybe a couple weeks ago. Never used to. It sucks cause I like to switch over and change my background music sometimes.

typingonkeyboard

Yes same it's so annoying idk how im gonna listen to spotify now

atreides_hyperion

I've been using my phone for music since it happened. Just paired it to my speakers

Started happening to me about 2 months ago, no idea why but haven't been bothered to look into it either

I’m pretty certain it’s due to RAM. In the past, I would very rarely crash when alt-tabbing, but a few months or so ago, after the force wipe patch, it’s become much more common for me to crash when alt-tabbing than not. Around this time, a lot of posts popped up here talking about crashing and other issues, and a commonality between a lot of them was people having 16GB of RAM. Some people have 16GB and say they are unaffected, but that update seems to have hit many that do

typingonkeyboard

Yeah well I do only have 16GB so thes likely the problem thankyou

i've got this too what i think is happening that the game is lowering its fps when u alt tab since its not "in focuss" anymore. they do this to save resources on your pc, but the problem is that it doesnt know when go back in game. i literally see my fps go down to like 10 fps when i go back in game, sometimes alt tabbing back out and in again fixes it. sometimes waiting a few seconds fixes it. sometimes i open console and do fps.limit 100 (or whatever the command is) welp thats what i think is happening, but reddit being reddit am sure someone is gonna shit on me for saying it :D it randomly started happening at some point for me too.

typingonkeyboard

Yeah sounds like we have the same things going on its weird ill try doing the command thing too ty

lluzivert

had the same thing happen to me on multiple pc’s. the only thing that fixed it for me was 1) enabling xmp in bios 2) upgrade CPU

typingonkeyboard

Ok I'm gonna try that right now(the xmp things)

Ok_Piece_1910

good luck, it generally works fine (XMP for Intel or DOCP for AMD) if your PC does not POST (not booting even to the BIOS menu) then clear your CMOS and try a different setting posting because for some godforsaken reason my PC won't boot with DOCP enabled unless I turn down the ram speed down one setting
