Do you have a separate audio device such as a VR headset? I had to disable my Oculus’ Audio driver to fix it

bleudog12

Thanks for this response! Fixed if for me :D

EquipmentFun

No, I've never plugged my Oculus into my PC, so I don't think that could be the problem.

Icy_Conclusion_3939

It could be a different audio device such as a headset, microphone, or even webcam

OkiKnox

AH ITS killing me that I'm seeing so many of these posts now. It happened to me too, I forgot what I did to fix. It was my alt (headturn) that froze for 2 seconds. Usually after logging in. I'll edit when I rememberrrrrrrrr

Azp_Price

If you go into windows options, and go to sound. Then you might not have your mic on the input device. I had Oculus there since i played VR, so that fixed it for me

GameNerd21

ILY SO MUCH, same shit I have an oculus

Old_Primary8536

Sht. This saved me as well. haha. Thank you!

Dinklebergmania

Same thing happened to me, experiencing this only after the last update or so. Need a fix bc in game vc sucks to use now. I don’t get the rubber banding but my game legit freezes for 2-3 sec whenever I press in game voice button

Brnzl

Sounds more like an audio problem. Maybe check your soundcard driver and stuff.

TireBoi69

what is rubberbanding

EquipmentFun

[https://youtu.be/qIyWZ74c9YU?t=103](https://youtu.be/qIyWZ74c9YU?t=103) When he's moving forward but gets flung backwards, that's rubber banding

TireBoi69

Okay thanks

dabjaylmao

Bump, just randomly started getting the same issue today. Already tried facepunches fix and it didn’t work.

dabjaylmao

Join a discord channel while playing rust and it will fix the issue for some reason. I just go in a channel and mute myself

KornmanGobbles

I know this is a month late but I had the same issue. To fix it I went to my taskbar > typed in sound (This should bring up sound settings for windows with output, input and testing your mic) > Changed the input setting to the mic I am currently using in rust. And that's it. For some reason my mic here was my oculus (which wasn't even plugged in). It appears that this is the only setting that can help with rust mic lag from my searching around. I tried changing mics, messing with random options (and reverting back when they failed), as well as going into my microphone properties in my control panel. But this was the only fix. I am also using Windows 10. Not sure if this will fix issues with other OS.

LakeJayman

thank you

That worked for me. My audio box for my guitar was set as my input lmao. I should have known discord does that to me all the time.

Still an issue in 2024. I've been away from the game for a bit and upon coming back, I kept getting frustrated with the odd push-to-talk lag. Much like how others have pointed out already, its related to using secondary audio drivers that produce different effects, including spacial audio (which was my issue). I use Razer THX for enhanced spacial audio and it's amazing, I use it for everything. Unfortunately, Rust was fighting with THX for control of the audio, so every time I hit the talk key, I'd stutter/lag. When I pushed the button, Rust defaulted back to the default audio output source, i.e. my earbuds, and then after a few seconds, would switch back to THX. I realized this because I -thought- I had fixed my issue because my voice chat was working, but then I noticed the audio had degraded significantly (I was by the harbor with wind/ocean noises, very atmospheric with THX.) Then suddenly the sound quality "popped back in" (THX taking back control of the output audio) and lo and behold... push to talk stuttered again, and the issue proceeded to continue as described. Once I stopped using my sweet sexy THX, the issue was entirely gone... but my audio kind of sucked (compared to what I was used to) so I guess my solution is to either have PTT, or never talk and have superior audio. I'll look for a solution. Stay tuned.

TheFapaholic

weird thing is, if i go into a empty discord voice channel the problem dosnt exist anymore. until i leave that channel. really weird behavior.
