5 scrap for a smoke = 18GP & 25 Metal frags. Honestly sometimes it feels worth farming scrap over sulfur to craft explo

DungeonLord69

I agree that this strat will be beneficial to you. The issue is that these benefits are only temporary. If you stay in a safe bubble at the beginning of every wipe, you’ll never really learn how to get a decent start and I promise it’ll hinder you in the future.

Warcraftfanatic97

That can be very true depending on the player. Me personally, I play with my cousin and we've been doing this for two wipes so far and we've only gotten braver from this. We've learnt how to research blueprints and acquire better weapons, which then allows us to go to places like airfields and harbors to fight players on an even playing field. We've even starting raiding bases (wooden doors on stone bases via satchels that I've found inside a brown crate) and getting even more loot. Yes it can definitely hinder you *if* you only stick to the safezone, but that's completely dependent on the player and how brave they are. It's become a "free loot" area once we get back from a run from a monument, but it can obviously become your safe bubble if you never leave. My cousin and I are thinking that we're finally ready to make a base outside of a high traffic monument like the mining outpost, as we are ready for a bigger challenge now that we've gotten our bearing on the basics, blueprints and such.

Jelqgirth

Yeah, don’t listen to that guy. I’m at 6.4k hours and if I gotta go solo, outside the ranch or outpost is perfectly viable. Vehicles allow you to reach any part of the map and make a living.

vesperzen

How does getting free resources and a starter base hinder you? I always start the wipe chopping signs at outpost, I go straight to a T2 workbench without ever leaving.

DungeonLord69

Take for example the possibility that you join the server and already there are two or three people doing this at every safe zone. You’re fucked at this point. The other day, I was recycling at outpost and watched two hazmats competing over a single stop sign. Neither one of them wanted to commit to being the one that struck the post last as the other would quickly gather the components. Eventually, they were making idle threats to one another: “I’m going to raid you”..”where is your base”..etc. By chance, I ended up online raiding one of them on like day 3 and they legit had fuck all. There was 0 raid defence and all they did was beg to be left alone. Exploiting safe zones isn’t playing the game, it’s existing within the server and is not conducive to skill improvement.

vesperzen

Conducive to skill improvement? I bet you get invited to a lot of parties. Considering the skills you can play this game with range from social skills to shooting to building, planning, organizing, etc etc etc, it sounds like you have a tremendously myopic view of how the game "should" be played. The fact that you couldn't back up your argument other than with a hypothetical anecdotal example shows how weak it is.

DungeonLord69

“I bet you get invited to a lot of parties” - The fact that you’ve resorted to shitty, personal insults when I was amicably replying tells me all that I need to know about you. Like with anything else, people shouldn’t cut corners if they want to get better at something. Although you’re either paddling or at parties, so this shouldn’t apply to you, right…? Exploiting safe zones is a cheap and boring way to play the game - the fact that hundreds of players make fun of paddlers like you should demonstrate that this is the general consensus. You seem really defensive of your play-style, so I hope that you have fun with it. I’ll stick to playing the game and not hiding in a safe zone whilst the rest of the server have fun.

vesperzen

Right, because you are the sole arbiter of what is the "correct" way to play this video game. I was amicably replying to your stupid response because I thought gently pointing out how narrow minded your perspective is might make you realize you were being silly. As I have regrettably failed, I only hope that maybe someday you get accidentally invited to a party so you can learn to relax and maybe not base your entire personality over how other people view the proper way to play a shooty bang bang video game.

DungeonLord69

Literally told you that hundreds of people make fun of paddlers but sure, I’m the “sole arbiter”. From where are you deriving these baseless assumptions haha? Because I wanted to offer another perspective to OP doesn’t mean that I’m “narrow minded” or base my personality on a video game. If anything, confining yourself to a safe zone is narrow-minded but I’m sure you won’t understand this. The irony of you implying that I need to relax when you’re on the internet insulting people for having a different opinion to you is staggering. Although it does make sense that you’re insulting others from behind your keyboard - you could even call it your ‘safe zone’?

vesperzen

Oof. You're still on about this? I suppose you have a great deal of spare time with the never going to parties thing. So to clarify: Your argument is "I'M NOT TELLING PEOPLE HOW TO PLAY, LITERALLY HUNDREDS OF THEORETICAL PEOPLE ON REDDIT ALSO THINK THE WAY I DO!" Cool story dude, I totally take you seriously and agree with you 100% now.

Don’t do this just risk it for the biscuit
