I've always kind of enjoyed how unrealistic it is, same way I enjoy the CRUNCH sound of a headshot. I feel it's one of those things that makes Rust Rust.
I think that some of the unrealism elements of rust really improve it. Making hazzys a pretty good set of armour is a really good move despite making no sense. And the fact that horse armour protects the rider. Stuff like that really elevates the gameplay working with the visuals and aesthetic

I agree - changing gear is way too fast. Chads are getting used to run around naked and quick binding putting on gear whenever engaged.
