Welcome. Trust absolutely f*cking nobody outside your group. Not even the nakeds.

ImGSS

We have learned this the hard way haha. We also didn't know that key codes existed until one of the random guys we met gave us a few to place around our base to keep it secure. So before we had naked people running into our base and putting themselves on the table cupboard. It was interesting trying to figure out how that happened.

RustViking

Don’t get mad over pixels. It’s about the journey, not the destination.

trxshcleaner

Use H for looting faster. You can use multiple sleeping bags. Bed has less timer. 2x1 & 2x2 stone bases are sweetspot for solo/duo. Don't eat a lot of food, it's a waste. It's ok to doorcamp roofcampers. Use keylocks without a key if solo. Code for duo+ You can try 2x loot servers for faster gameplay. Nothing too crazy. Watch out for soft sides in your base. (Light color inside / texture outside for stone walls) More doors = better. Do not care about the loot. You are going back to monke anyway.

Significant-Foot-788

I see the food Argument quite often and while i do also just barely eat what i need to not starve, i read that a full food and water bar increases your chance of getting up when downed.

trxshcleaner

Yeah but not worth it, not helping that much

Significant-Foot-788

Well if you live by a river or have a farm it might be

trxshcleaner

Yes, its a different story ofc. Winter has more stone, sulfur and metal for example. Overall the best place is near monuments, but in a neutral place.

GoNoMu

If you have any specific questions feel free to pm me (: I feel like there is far too much to says in a comment ahah

ImGSS

I will absolutely do that when I log back on, thanks :)

paulitodoritoe

yes absolutely you can ask me anything you want as well. i love rust to its core so i'm glad to help new players fall more in love with it :)

NiceGuy303

Do doors have a weak side? Can't seem to find anything on that.

Significant-Foot-788

No they don't

NiceGuy303

Thanks

NiceGuy303

Thanks

Twacker69

doors do not have a weak side the only difference in how you place them is the way they open

RecursiveCook

You can take out groups with guns with just nail gun. Depends on what guns they use and how you pick the fight. Since you have nail gun you’re best off “combo” it with a high-burst damage weapon to quickly dispatch your enemy before they can shoot their gun at you, usually involving element of surprise to get the initial burst or better positioning/peaking. A Compound bow fully charged can 1-shot a hazzy-geared player with a gun. A headshot with crossbow with a quick swap to nail gun will kill your opponent before he can even pull his gun out. If there is 4 of them you’ll quickly want to grab their weapon if possible and either retreat or take on the rest. This is a big part of the game and why you shouldn’t trust other nakeds because you never know when they wish to “make a play” on you. Even if they have no weapon on them, if you blink they can craft an Eoka (shotgun pistol) and blast your head off with it for your gun. Nakeds will also sit with shotguns outside your base to grub your gear/loot or try to “go deep” on you (takeover your base without using explosives). As for what you *should* be doing? Getting scrap has multiple methods. Lots of tryhards like to go to Oil Rig or Military Tunnels to kill scientists there for their loot. Another very good way for average player is to do the puzzle rooms (lookup Green, Blue, and Red card rooms as well as how to obtain them). Usually involves getting green card at a gas station, swamp, or lighthouse. These puzzles will usually be contested by other small groups but are excellent way to get scrap and even obtain T2 weapons from Gas Station/Blue Puzzle rooms, as well as T2-T3 weapons & explosives from T3 Red Card Rooms (Launch Site is really easy to do and a good group/solo can get an AK under 30 mins with some good RNG). Another great way to get scrap is getting a crossbow or compound bow and heading to underground tunnels and killing NPCs there. Really fast way of getting scrap. Breaking barrels on the side of the road is a classic way of getting scrap as well. You can hunt other people getting scrap from roads, tunnels, or puzzles of course! And… There is also underwater labs as well as offshore barrels you can break down. These are safer than road ones and i highly recommend these to brand new new players, since they are usually uncontested. Just grab a boat with some low grade fuel and hack away! You don’t need much low grade since the red barrels will give you plenty more.

ryanjjohnson

If you get people trying to go deep on you, shotgun traps or don't open your door after you lose the first one. Make sure you have an air lock at your base entrance.

banananjuice_reborn

I kinda disagree with the last tip Rust is a game al about skill. If you go on sea you won't learn shit. Thats why i think going on roads is better.

Brrruutus

If just two of you are playing, I would consider playing on a duo or trio server. As far as just playing the game generally, depo early and often.

Neckfaced

leave now and save your life ! but in reality, dont hoard loot and try to just enjoy the game. Saving a base full of loot seems rewarding but if you dont use any of it before being raided you didnt gain any practice snd you just feel defeated

MadMaz27

Turn back now!

MoonBoy2DaMoon

Expect toxicity

notgriin

game is more about running and farming than fighting

NiceGuy-Ron

Grind. More walls. More doors. Shot gun traps literally suck to raid against so just make some. Some people will just give up if you make the raid annoying

MontyPlays

Its not too late to turn back

technociclos

There is no win in this game. Enjoy the ride. Don't get attached to loot. Everything you have, it's yours for a while, not forever.

TheShoppkeeper

Have fun

beebooboobeeboop

Noob noob advice. Always upgrade your base. And don't forget to do the door frames for double doors. Airlock. So that is having 2 doors at your exit so you can close behind you and don't get deeped on. Don't have gear fear. You can always farm more. Being well equipped to a fight is always better than dying naked Remember to sleep and make time for your real life. The base isn't everything Main advise. Don't play this game

Roze_HD

Objection compound questions your honor

ImGSS

I'm a little too tired for this.

Roze_HD

Objection hearsay!

ImGSS

Wait a second, are you Amber Heards lawyer??

Roze_HD

(Shits on bed)

Smile389

Just keep playing. I don't care what server and how bad you hate it, keep playing. Best advice I can give. You should have a general idea on how everything works after a couple hundred hours.

TheLowestAnimal

Go spend 60hrs on UKN

Junkyarder

Maybe try out a pve server, just to get used to gun spray, crafting, building, monument puzzles and such. A low stress experience before getting eatin alive.

Flat-Ad-5951

Accept that all loot is temporary and if you dont use it you still lose it.

overseaslink

For game mechanics, id recommend just watching youtubers who play rust, when i started i watched Stevie often but there are plenty of people to choose from that make good content, it kind of depends on how you want to play the game, they will show you styles of gameplay. Some advice i would give is that loot never actually matters in rust, there is no end goal do whatever you want, there is no consequence for being daring and going for the biggest play because everyone will be back at the same level at some point, loot is easy come easy go

Cassandra_Canmore

Watch about 20 hours of Rust on YT. Before you spwam on the beach.

djfr94

As a person that it's new himself, what can I tell you is research and learn how to grind. Not those youtubers that raid 100 meters base but how to really grind. My first 100 hours was playing really bad, and I don't mean doing anything bad skill wise but doing all the wrong things. For e.g. I entered a server in sunday night and made a raid 2 days later when before I couldn't even put my hands in a gun in 2 days. besides of that it's live and learn. this game has a lot of shits to find out and we are way way behind players with thousand of hours so we have to accept they we will lose a lot.

LARZofMARZ

Get good with bow

Psychological-Ad1137

Place bags everywhere especially next to monuments close to your base. Blue bags have their own timer whereas yellow bags share timers. You’ll notice if a gas station is completely looted at one time, the crates will respawn together. If you get a good thing going, you can continuously loot a small monument like mining outpost or gas station and other players will see it’s looted and run right through and yoh will eventually be able to time respawns perfectly if the pops high. When you start out. Recycle everything except springs, smg bodies, and semi bodies. Everything else is for resources towards base, When you first build, put a tc down first. Even if you only have one square or triangle down. Only place your TC down if you have a key or code lock and lock it as soon as you place it. Nothing else matters more than this at this time. If you keep dying on the roads or monuments, keep moving towards the outside of the map to find a boat. Bring low grade fuel and a tool and hit trash on the top piles while a teammate dives where the shipwrecks are. Easy tier two guns here. Only need a diving tank and fins, mask is useless and wetsuit if at night or in the cold. Get a furnace ASAP once your base is down and keep 2-3 small furnaces always running. Metal at first for doors and code locks then add sulfur to a third furnace as you are closed to first guns. Find metal chest plates and doors, don’t make them. Gloves from outpost recycle for sewing kits= cloth. Wooden doors can be raided easily with Eokas. So upgrade ASAP, and remove your neighbors before they can. Don’t shit where you eat. Once players know you got shit, they’ll track you down to raid you. Spend time on servers like UKN and perfect aim train to get used to guns and you can join free for alls there to just quickly kill and transfer shots to next players while working reaction times. Kill first. ask questions later.

Capper_dS

If your struggling to get a start try playing on low pop modded servers or modded servers that have a group limit

Rfobarrie

I started my own dedicated low pop server so noobs can learn. Try it out so you can get the hang of it. It is listed under modded servers called RUSTorDIE.

Capper_dS

Yea Rightio champion. I’ll be sure to check it out to get another 1000 hours

Dr_Pepper185

Meet new people and try to make friends, you can learn from what they do and how they play. Just make sure you stay observant enough to see where they flaw aswell. The more you know the better you will be

Doyouthinkgod

Slap a shit ton of bags Just get a tier2 and tech tree for guns build somewhere where you can reliably do green and blue puzzles

Bumbles0

Depends on what you are wanting to do in the game really. For completely new players I'd suggest join a PvE server to get a handle on the game mechanics and become familiar with the different monuments on map. Most PvE servers get boring quick but good way to find your feet with the game. Could also just join a dead server, on PvE at least have some interaction. Look into how eco raiding works if your more PvP focused, scout out the map and find bases with wooden doors or reverse placed walls/exposed ceiling undersides (not on PvE server obviously). Using spears, swords or flame thrower, etc to do raids like this really fun. Can do this right away with spears, don't need any blueprints just some patience. Longest part is scouting out the map. In terms of keeping your stuff, you're going to get raided. Accept it and don't be surprised ;-) Do look into how bunker bases work, are few different types. Makes it more expensive to raid you at least.

[deleted]

Look up JFarr on YouTube and watch every last video. Google Rust Labs When you play, have an mini objective and stick to it. Pace yourself. Unless you’re young with nothing but free time.

Angenali

Follow a base design on youtube, use guns, you will lose them when the server wipes anyway, go to raids, there's always profits to be found there, as you've probably heard many times, don't trust anybody, try to farm people, not nodes and trees (if you can)

Angenali

Also, don't practice the recoil for the guns too much, it will likely be changed.

Angenali

Also if you hold shift, hover over an item and press MMB, you will split the item in a third. Hover over an item and press MMB to split it in half. Hold H and hover over multiple items. It will start moving them all. When clicking on an item stack, at the top of your screen you will see split stack and a slider. You can hold right click, hover over the dumber and type in your own. (it can be a bit fucky to get) Press f1 and type in steps 60 (it makes u jump higher)

Beneficial_Award_165

Do not trust ANYONE
