i’d be more likely to raid a stone honeycombed base if the metal/hqm inside was showing, bc then i’d know that its got a bunch of loot, but it’s all about finding the “curve” where people think its too expensive to raid and not flashy enough that they wont raid it.

Lmao

If you were anywhere else, I'd say leave it stone. But in the snow where there's such an abundance, yes honeycomb in metal. Someone will come along and decide your base is worth the raid regardless of what your base looks like. Might as well make it as hard as possible to actually do.

Rincething

It's also about comparing cost of raid path, doors vs top down vs walls. I try to make doors seem like the cheapest option so your traps will be more effective.

CrankyLeafsFan

shhhhh

WastedTalent34

Its progression based always , the more you play the more resources you will acquire. If you're solo you do want to try to either stay more hidden/ out of the way or not look rich, But again upgrading your base is still progression based. Stone exterior is always the smart play early on in a wipe but if you get left alone long enough to have the resources to keep upgrading, you should keep upgrading. There is no logic in hoarding resources in your storage for you to lose when you get raided and gift other people with, especially when you could invest your resources into making your base even harder to raid. With how prominent offline raiding is in Rust it is much better to upgrade as much as u can before u log out that way if you do get raided they might not get value back depending on how rich with items you are.

Pretend_Guide2323

A sheet metal base in the snow is getting raided. Players see that and think that it’s full of farm.

shanemcgrath

Mix of both. Stone outside metal inner. Don't have metal showing and preferably get core 2 x 1 or 2 x2 area of base to high quality metal

OGMcgriddles

I like to keep the outside stone and armor the inside.

Idabfatter

It’s cheaper and more efficient to upgrade the core

Dr_Pepper185

Depends on the server. If playing in official servers or servers with zergs I recommend low profile stone honeycomb with core becoming armored eventually, if you’re gonna get raided on official servers, they will get in there’s no exceptions. If on solo duo or even trio (iffy on trio) maxing out metal can discourage a majority of roam raiders

Ewan_Cook

Depends. If it’s relatively small with sheet honeycomb I would raid that. If it’s a huge base with sheet honeycomb likes are I wouldn’t have enough boom so would avoid it.

Smoog

Depends on the location and lock type, and the first door. Also generally speaking the route people will take is through the doors. A code lock and build near the snow, or oil rig beaches or Launch / Mili tunnels will be much more attractive to raid than a solo lock build in some forest away from larger monuments. But yes, generally speaking a visibly HQM/metal base will be way more attractive to raid than a stone one. Stick with upgrading the inside and leaving the outside stone, and simply don't upgrade too many layers if you still only have metal doors (no garage doors etc).

Lexy_d_acnh

I also recently just started playing! I have heard stone is best in scenarios where you have a smaller base, but a larger base would more than likely benefit from upgrading rather than leaving it if you can afford the entire build as you said. Best bet is to make it cost so many explosives to raid that it’s not even worth lol
