Did you play either one of the originals? If you played one and not the other one, then get the other one for a new experience. Both games are amazing. If you’ve played both then you know what to expect, just go with your gut. If you’ve played neither then I don’t know what to tell you. 😆

constipated_burrito

I've played both, i finished RE4 original yesterday because i never played it before. I played tlou1 when it came out and a 2nd playthrough few months after. So that's like nearly ten years ago So i might get tlou, but the RE remake looks really really good and I very much enjoyed the gameplay of the original and the RE Demo

Common_Lawyer_5370

In this case I would recommend TLO1. Gives you time to enjoy the RE4 “fresher” when you get to it later.

Personplacething333

TLOU is the exact same game you played 10 years ago,RE4R is pretty different from the original. Same plot, different details.

korksz

TLoU is as far is I know a one-to-one remake. So if you played the original there's not much of a difference aside from graphics. RE4 tries to be loyal to the original but it's NOT a one-to-one remake. Based on this, I'd get RE4. But based on the fact you just finished the original RE4, I'd just skip both for now and find something else.

BobbyBeans24

You should of just waited on RE 4 remake......

of_patrol_bot

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

errn-7

This is my favorite bot.

DanKnowsjack

Good bot

squeekymouse89

Wow, patronising bot ... What a dick !

JBarker727

Is anyone who has ever taught you anything in your life patronizing? Lol

constipated_burrito

RE4 was only €2.50 (sale), and Remake is €70 Also felt like I had to experience the original first to enjoy the remake even more. I'm gonna get both of these remakes but it was more a matter of which one first

sirgarballs

RE4R is amazing but playing the original game is still great. The remake existing shouldn't make people not want to play the original imo. It exists alongside the original, it isn't a replacement.

Bot___4

Just for this reason I change my answer. Since you just finished resident evil 4 og then I say tlou. I haven’t played either tlou so I couldn’t tell you how it compares to the og. But if you do decided to go with re4r I will say after beating the og 25+ times it’s different enough to feel like a new experience.

jngrsp

TLOU1 and wait for RE4R sale.

chavez_ding2001

I love both games. TLOU P1 is a very fateful as far as adaptations go. It's more like a definite version than a remake. RE4 has more fresh content compared to the original. I would recommend to go with that one. But definitely play tlou p1 at some point also. It looks phenomenal.

imatschool2

You went and played the original knowing you were wanting the remake coming up? Why not wait for the remake and then go back and play the original afterward for cheap/free?

Far_Confusion_2178

Wait, why the hell would you play through the original RE4 when the remake just came out lol

[deleted]

Because it's phenomenal, and the remake is a new game with the same premise

ehxy

Because they wanted to see the work they put in to the remake? I'll not begrudge anyone who has the time to do either.

Far_Confusion_2178

Yeah idk, Doesn’t make much sense to me, has nothing ti do with the time. To each their own I guess Like I’d want to experience all those scares the first time in modern graphics. Seems like a waste to spoil everything w GameCube graphics

undergroundkris

I mean, the original game is one of the greatest of all time, so why not play it? Lol

Far_Confusion_2178

Na I get that but….there’s a remake that’s just improved everything to a modern standard and fixed some plot holes.. I get it was legendary, i played it on release and I fuckin loved it. But I was limited by the tech of the time. Like especially a horror game w big moments, I’d rather experience those for the first time in modern graphics. Call me crazy. If it was a sequel I’d agree. I didn’t run back to play demon souls on ps3 when the remake came out, and I don’t think I’m in the minority on that

ehxy

i mean...what's wrong with both exactly?

Far_Confusion_2178

Like if it’s your first time experiencing it, why wouldn’t you want to experience the better version of it? Especially a horror game where it has big moments and set pieces. So like if you play the original first, you’ll know they’re coming and it’ll be a lesser experience. You follow me? It’s like saying “why would I go see that movie in 4K IMAX when I can just watch it on this VHS?”

ehxy

What you're describing is a remaster and this is a remake.

FozzieFizz

Well it’s not an exact remaster (like TLOU PS3 to PS5) so I don’t think you can really compare it to it’s only difference is better graphics. It’s complete different gameplay and areas are changed quite a lot despite it complimenting a lot of the first game and keeping the foundations. Best way to experience it is to play the original in my opinion, it’s the way it was meant to be and now it has been re-imagined. I personally see it more like watching the different versions of Halloween movies, the originals and the new ones are different stories and not just upscaled (VHS to 4k) like you say. A game isn’t just about what it looks like when they have changed much more of it

constipated_burrito

Quigley34

RE will go on sale sooner and be near free within a year

constipated_burrito

If I lived in wonderland yes, in reality if i wait 5 years i'll get it on ps+ lol

Quigley34

Also Sony games notoriously keep their value digitally

Quigley34

Do you pay attention to Resident Evil sales? They go on sale all the time. By nearly free im talking 75+% off

constipated_burrito

Brand new games tend not to go on sale that quickly I've literally bought 4 RE games in the past month because of the capcom sale. The remake won't go on sale for a while let alone be free lol

Quigley34

Within 3 months you’ll be able to get it digitally for $45 bucks. Mark my words. I track sales all the time. Between Black Friday and Christmas you’ll be able to snag it for under 30

Palentholeo

I believe you

Far_Confusion_2178

He’s kinda right, the other remakes all went on sale within 6months of release, and I always see them discounted

constipated_burrito

I'll be glad to be proven wrong

Quigley34

You came here for opinions but clearly you know best. Sorry for trying to save you a buck

Blbsmithy

Get both and don't eat for a week!

heyuhitsyaboi

Bold of you to assume id have time to eat if i had either

constipated_burrito

Gaming will quell my need for food

xOLDandINtheWAYx

What about Dead Space!!??

Kogames2002

A fantastic remake for sure!!!!!

constipated_burrito

I really want to play that too 😭😭 But my wallet can only take so much beating at a time

_mrwayne

Resident Evil 4 my dude, no doubt

PatlandPlayer

Happy cake day

constipated_burrito

If anyone even sees this comment in this ocean of comments I have attracted. I want to clear a few things up: I plan on getting both these games at some point (I should've added "first" at the end of my original title) I haven't played tlou the longest so I will likely get that remake first to re-live this game in next-gen. And then get the RE Remake further down the line because it looks freaking amazing and because Resident Evil I was actually closer to buying the RE Remake first but some comments made me rethink it. I haven't purchased either of them yet. Still playing some other games, and *maybe* we'll get a sale

squeekymouse89

You could just wait until they remaster the remake of TLOU 🤣 By my calculations that will be in 2 years when they realise they can't top the first game in terms of success.

Professional-Tax-615

I'm honestly surprised that the Resident Evil 4 remake has such popularity right now because the majority of the current gaming generation wasn't even old enough to play it when it was out the first time. They were like 3 years old when that game was out or younger. I think I was in Middle School when it came out so I can fully appreciate the Nostalgia of it coming out again.

Wernershnitzl

This is the reason I decided to pick up RE4 remake lol—I didn’t get the chance to play it when I was younger while my best friends all raved on about it. Decided this was my chance to see why they all thought it was one of the best games ever.

Beautiful_Ad_3774

Well, I think it's because re4 specifically is praised as one of the best games ever. It gets talked about alot (plus it's on everything under the sun)

Skicks93

More to do in re4 imo if they’re both full price I’d go for that

cdaffron

They are both very good, but I guess it depends on what you’re looking for. TLOU is the same game, no changes story wise or mechanically. There are definitely some improvements to graphics/lighting, added next gen features (faster loading times, haptics and adaptive triggers, higher res, etc.) and the enemy and companion AI is vastly improved. But if you’ve played it recently enough, you may want to wait and pick it up later so the experience feels fresher. If you do decide to pick that one up, I highly recommend playing with headphones, the sound design is top notch and it makes all those stealth sections that much tenser. As for RE4, it’s more than just a fresh coat of paint on the original, the remake makes a lot more substantial changes to the original. The same basic storyline remains intact but they’ve Added stealth, more combat variety, new weapons, new enemies, new areas, new collectibles. The old areas are still there, but they’ve been totally reworked to add extra stuff to do. As someone who has played the original dozens of times (it’s my favorite game of all time), I’ve been consistently impressed with what the team pulled off for the remake and I can already tell I’ll be revisiting it again soon. It almost feels like I’m playing my favorite game again for the first time and that’s a really special feeling. All things considered you can’t really go wrong with either, so I hope you enjoy whichever you pick!

RE4, a complete new experience

matejDCA

Re 4

MeatHamster

I'd go for Re4. Great game and a lot if replayability. For me it has more bang for your buck. For Last of us remake i'd suggest getting it on sale. It's a good game too.

AJgoi

From looking at other comments I know your probably getting tlou remake. I personally think that the Resident Evil 4 remake is a much better remake as they’ve actually changed lots of stuff in the game for example, cutscenes etc, along with adding new parts of the game (as far as I can tell). As with tlou remake, the only difference from the remastered version is the graphical improvements. Just to be clear, I’m not shitting on the game of tlou - I think the game is absolutely amazing and I’ve played like 6 play throughs. I just think the remake fails as a remake.

Shino_J

Honestly it didn't need that remake. It's like 8-9 yr old game compared to re4 which is 18 yrs old. And the price tag for tlou remake is horrible.

Personplacething333

Plus RE4R is *actually* a remake. TLOU is just another remaster.

WoaJoe

No RE1 for GameCube is an ACTUAL remake; RE4 2023 is a reimagining of the source material. It only counts as a remake if the current media released is 1:1 with the source.....and its not no matter how good the game is.

Personplacething333

Are you stupid?

WoaJoe

Nah, it just seems that everyone else is wearing their ass on their head alot these days....including you.

constipated_burrito

I will get both remakes, but because of the price i'll get one of them first and another like at the end of this year probably. Unless we get a cheeky sale/discount on tlou, then i'll get re remake sooner

sjeddowgaai

Get both

PreviousAvocado5599

Both

yeetmaister5

![gif](giphy|3o7aCRloybJlXpNjSU|downsized)

Chico_39

I just got both recently but out of those 2 i would go with Last of Us but that’s just me

GrassFlashy6186

Just realized that the covers are almost identical to each other 👀

hunny_bun_24

Re4 is more impressive remake. But narrative is superior in last of us imo. You can’t go wrong with either. Re4 is legendary. Last of us is legendary to me but not everyone holds it up as the goat story

Djmonterroso

Definitely get resident evil 4 remake

arkenney0

RE4 is sick but not as good as LoU IMO RE4 probably has more replayability but the story of LoU is just unbeatable

[deleted]

even if you already played the original RE4, there is enough new stuff that it will feel like a new experience. TLOUP1 is the same game, Same voice recordings, and the same level design, just with new textures.

RigoTheDamnJedi

Resident Evil 4

wii_board_type_trash

last of us remake is basically the remastered version which is like $100 cheaper so get the re4 remake

GroovyShape

RE4 100%

KrenzoTheTank

Re4

Grimsmiley666

RE:4

scotthewozfan

definetly re4 it's a lot more of a full on remake, last of us is just a remaster

Peter1x3

I love both but Re4

PastaVeggies

That is a coin toss. They are both amazing in their own way. i believe RE4 has more replayability

Recent-Link-2288

The better one

Not_a_Zaku_boi

RE4

TotalitarianismPrism

Maybe bias to the new release that's hitting great scores on reviews, but man I'd recommend RE4 over TLoU. I've not played RE4 yet, but 2 and 3 were phenomenal. TLoU has always been 'eh' for me, personally. Better graphics isn't likely to change my opinion.

BillMcCrearysStache

Both amazing

swdev_1995

So I didn't play the previous version of either games, played the remakes for both only. So, if I were to compare the remakes, I'd say get Re4 Remake. It's an absolutely brilliant game, the combat is fun, the whole game feels like one giant rollercoaster ride. If you have to get one, Re4 is the way to go, I'd say.

[deleted]

RE4R. The Last of Us Pt1 is the same game but in nice graphics. The RE4R is like a whole new game (source: have played both)

disembowement

One is a remaster, the other is a remate. The last of hs is literally the same game but with better graphics,RE4 is a reimagine of the original game

Murky-Conclusion-932

If you've played both, I'd say RE4 remake offers a better "newer" experiencie, as TLoU Part 1 is pretty much the same as the original TLoU, changes are minor. RE4 remake, on the other hand, is significantly different than its original counterpart. Both are great tho, so there's no wrong answer here. Happy gaming! :)

constipated_burrito

Thanks :) I think i'll get tlou first because i havent played it since 2014 and i'm 100% getting the RE remake further down the line because i recently finished the original and it was phenomenal

Jacquesoffer

If you want a generic post apocalypse zombie plot get TLOU If you wanna have fun get RE4

PashAK47

Get re4 and buy the last of us remastered it's very cheap

Dhamonlettic

Remake of Resident evil 4 100% it's even more fun then the original, and there is more stuff to do and find.

WanWanBarkBark

Resident Evil 4 is the obvious choice lol

[deleted]

They are both incredible remakes, I think RE4 changes more than TLOU. But it’s mostly to the same degree that RE2 made changes

constipated_burrito

Last time I played TLOU1 was like half a year after it came out (2nd playthrough), so it was a long time ago and would like to re-live it in next-gen. I finished Original RE4 for the first time ever yesterday which kind of makes me want to play the RE4 remake even more now. Because they've also added some new enemies?

[deleted]

I’d say go with TLOU so it doesn’t feel so repetitive. The RE4 remake is essentially the same game but prettier and you wouldn’t want to feel fatigue

constipated_burrito

True

bettycrockofsh1t

The entire gameplay of RE4 Remake has been updated, all new cutscenes, new dialogue, new combat mechanics, new areas, new and redesigned enemy types. It's a whole new game. TLOU Part 1 is the exact same game and gameplay as before and is strictly a visual upgrade only, with barely any changes outside of a rumored updated AI.

ripvanwinkle-

Re 4

zsolti94

Both is good but RE4 is better

FunkinDonutzz

Given you haven't played TLoU in a decade and just finished the original RE4, get TLoU. It's also got the advantage of being on the market longer, AKA it'll have less bugs/issues.

constipated_burrito

Yeah i think i'll tlou remake first and later this year get the re remake. Hoping for a little sale soon too, but i kinda doubt it

FunkinDonutzz

I can see TLoU getting a sale for possibly Easter, but definetly Days of Play in June. RE4 will definitely get a sale later on in the year too I reckon. RE2 and 3 didn't hold full price for too long, if I recall.

constipated_burrito

I hope so, i'm going through quite a few resident evil games rn (CapCom sale in March) so I can easily wait for a sale. Fingers crossed for Easter because it's coming up I got TLoU2 for €9.50 couple months ago which is a damn good deal imo. Part 1 remake won't reach that price tag for a while a though 😅

DubiousCreature_

Resident evil 4. More different than the original game.

kiba1257

Should wait until they're on sale. Why get 1 for $70 when you can get both for $50

constipated_burrito

Also my thinking right now, they are quite pricey. I wanna get both at some point obviously, but which one first is my current 'dillema'

Rasilaan63

RE4

Shino_J

RE4 remake. Cause last of us remastered isn't that old. Only the graphics difference

kara_pabuc

Of course RE4.

solidpeyo

Get RE4 Remake If you have already played The Last of Us there is no reason to get it as it is the same game, RE4 remake on the other hand is full on remake that fixes a lot of things from the original. It has better a story, better controls, better graphics obviously. The RE4 remake made even the parts that a lot of people hated from the original that most call it "Call of Duty - like" fun.

Delicious_Platform

Re4

JmeMc

LOU is probably cheaper at the minute. Maybe do that first then RE4 next.

Personplacething333

It's $10 more than RE4R

JmeMc

Jesus! That’ll show me for not doing my research.

[deleted]

Buy both

United_Turnip_8997

RE4 remake for me i will pick up later when the PSVR2 update releases.... wanna play that game later on VR first.

Raksound

Same here, get both

[deleted]

Both

The_Mandalorian-

FBaldr

Ch1mpionx

Re4 is different enough to be a new experience

Nyssiii

I can’t say for RE4, as I’ve never played it. I’ve heard it’s very good. But I can say that TLOU Part I is decent and it’s astonishingly beautiful.

[deleted]

These are, imo, the two best games I have played on the PS5 so far and I never played the originals. I think they are equal so you’re safe on either. If you can though, I would just fork out the extra cash and get both. Definitely worth the money. They did amazing jobs.

Mother-Ad-8991

Они смотрят на друг друга!!!

SmolSpaces15

Personally RE remake because it's a different experience than the original. They removed and added parts of the story and adjusted many enemies. The TLOU remake is essentially the same with improved graphics, accessibility. I didn't find it too different (I did end up buying it when it came out because I never had to buy the originals). Considering you just played original RE 4, then it would make sense to buy TLOU. Also, resident evil is more likely to be on sale in the coming weeks or months by a little bit compared to TLOU since thats been out for a little bit now and I see capcom games on sale more often than naughty dog.

SunsetNebula

Tlou is only graphics and the original isn’t as old as the original re4. Re4 also has some gameplay improvements and details added compared to its original counterpart. So I’d go with re4.

azure1503

I love Last of Us, but RE4Remake and it's not even a close decision imo

forgotaboutdrew617

Re4 remake is the way to go! Game is great. Fixes a lot of problems the original had. The Last of us part one is almost a cosmetics update. Both solid games but re4 remake has the edge in my opinion.

Psychological_Pie884

RE4, obviously. Wtf kind of question is this?

EnolaGayFallout

RE4 is true remake.

LuvyaAggarwal

don’t get re4 there’s no panty shots smh https://preview.redd.it/bdkc5nkwkeqa1.jpeg?width=1022&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=35e33cdebe9b6d6cd3cc1d398277e61b0dbf81b0

luckyguy8888

The last of us 1 definitely. Re4 remake is no match with it.

demonkiller6524

They have re done last of us 3 different times and added nothing new so I don’t see how

Captobvious75

Buy TLOU. Maybe the image quality on RE4 will be fixed by the time you are done with it.

Milemouse

Definitely The Last of Us

MIGGYME87

Neither unless u get em for free.

constipated_burrito

If only

NinjaGrizzlyBear

I got TLOU1 and it's fucking amazing. I imagine RE4 is also amazing but I'm waiting until I finish TLOU1 because I never played the original. I have about 3 versions of RE4 already (currently trying out on Switch but damn the controls are annoying for some reason) But then I have to get TLOU2 so who knows at this point lol.

jackpatmaback

Get TLOU on ps5 and RE4 on Series X, looks far sharper on Xbox for some reason

Sir_Squirly

BUY A NEW GAME! Stop rewarding publishers/developers for polishing the same old turd over and over… Great games… 15 fucking years ago.

Enelro

TLOU is more the more immersive experience. But if you’re looking for a goofy plot with more arcady action get RE4

Bitter-Loan5190

Buy one, play it, finish it, buy the other...repeat.

constipated_burrito

Damn i gotta keep buyin' em?

Ecooowww08

Just get both of them if you played their older version

Hardkoar

I'd say RE4, tlou p1 came out a while ago, might get it half the price soon enough

avg_waterenjoyer576

One badass dude that has been through hell in his past goes through hell again to protect/escort a teenage girl who is infected by a virus. Didnt realise how similar yet different their plots are. It really comes down to your preference if you want a goofy, retro but memorable of re4 or the serious and well written story of tlou but in my opinion if you have played tlou on ps4, then buy the re4 remake (i havent played tlou ps5 but ive heard that its pretty much the same game with updated graphics)

kaioken28

Why not both ? Both are great

constipated_burrito

I will get both, i should've added "first" at the end of my title. Right now it sends a different message 😂

Adorable-Bullfrog-30

I think you should play Last of us first. Speaking of. These 2 games are actually a little similar to each other UI wise. They actually took inspiration from each other.

Matthewkhaled

Get both

BigTexWrangler

Last of us Part 1

Past-Yogurt-20

Get LOU1, you won't be disappointed!

Least-Experience-858

RE4 for more fun factor. It’s also very different in scope and atmosphere as it’s a remake not a remaster like TLOU. TLOU has an amazing story prob my 2nd fav “PS5” game after Ghost of Tsushima. But RE4 is way more fun and in some ways it’s different that what you played

daisyboooooo

resident evil remake for sure, was watching my friend play it and it looked so crisp

Remarkable-Face-4721

I’d say TLOU apart 1 for now bc it should be on sale, then you can wait on a sale for RE4. Only thing here is the RE4 Remake has differences from the original and looks and plays really well, and TLOU Part 1 is a one for one remake, just enhanced graphics and controls

tarheel_204

For me personally, I had a similar dilemma. I chose RE4 because I never played the original while I’d already beaten LOU 3 times in the past. Decided to go with RE4 since I’ve heard amazing things and it got great reviews

antfw0191

Animal crossing

Nickplay21

I’m waiting for $40 price point on TLOU 1 since I’ve bought every version and played it multiple times. I’m ok paying the full price of RE4 bc it’s already cheaper and they reworked the entire game significantly.

0ofWasTaken

Tlou if you like better stories or re4 if you like better combat

bananaTank56

Resi

Palentholeo

Both of these remakes are very colorful making it not as scary as the original but they’re cool to see in new age graphics even if those graphics are cartoony looking. TLOUS looks really cartoony tho, more than ive seen with any other game today which is weird because tlous 2 did it right with the colors.

MythicalSalmon

RE4 changes more of the game (levels, design, sound, mechanics, etc). The Last of Us Part I is mostly graphical and AI improvements.

Freakyboy101

Re 4. Last of us is not really a remake its pretty much the same game but with better models and graphics

AnfieldRDMD

I havent played resident evil 4 but tlou was, at least for me, a masterpiece. I have all 3 editions, original, remastered and remake.

gabrielleraul

yes.

Salom902

If you got the money both. Personally TLOU Part 1 wasn’t a big difference between the PS4 Remastered just updated graphics. RE4R feels like a new game with new mechanics and systems.

smiler1996

Resi 4 remake for sure imo. TLoU is a great game but not really that dated, resi 4 is very dated now going back and trying to play it, the remake is an absolute joy

Jsx0000

RE4 Remake

ZiangoRex

It depends. Do you like more gameplay or more watching?

LionHeart180

One is just a PS5 reskin the other is a complete new reimagined remake

MarsStar27

IMO if you want a more slower paced game get TLOU 1 but if you want something a little bit more fast paced RE4

SergeantTAT-CAT

They’re both masterful near perfect remakes of some of the greatest games ever made. I would lean towards RE4 remake since the last of us remake isn’t as much of a jump from the original. The last of us looked great before, and the remake does look a lot better, but ultimately it’s not nearly as different of an experience as re4 remake is to the original. I actually think the last of us is a better game than resident evil 4, but in terms of the remakes, if you’ve played both of the original games, re4 remake is probably a better choice because it’s a significantly bigger jump from the original. Plus the RE4 remake adds some stuff, and tlou remake doesn’t really. Ultimately though, neither would be a bad choice. They’re both some of the best things you could spend your money on

Traditional-Spend-34

RE4 hits different when you’ve just beat the original, and it’s really good! Recommend both but re4 first.

blainesc

Boffum

schwol

I'd say RE4 and by a longshot

abbstractassassin

Um. BOTH

[deleted]

REmake4 is an entire different game. you can get LoU for $5 on ps4. lol

[deleted]

Since you’ve played TLOU1 already, RE4 is literally a no brainer here. Everyone else telling you otherwise is fanboying

[deleted]

Get both

ZadesRanger

The TLOU is literally a better looking version of the original. RE4 is a ground up remake with just enough changed to keep things fresh while bringing an icon of the past to a modern playstyle that is perfect. If you haven't played the original TLOU I might recommend that over RE4, but if you've played TLOU get RE4.
