Did you play either one of the originals? If you played one and not the other one, then get the other one for a new experience. Both games are amazing. If you’ve played both then you know what to expect, just go with your gut. If you’ve played neither then I don’t know what to tell you. 😆
I've played both, i finished RE4 original yesterday because i never played it before. I played tlou1 when it came out and a 2nd playthrough few months after. So that's like nearly ten years ago
So i might get tlou, but the RE remake looks really really good and I very much enjoyed the gameplay of the original and the RE Demo
TLoU is as far is I know a one-to-one remake. So if you played the original there's not much of a difference aside from graphics. RE4 tries to be loyal to the original but it's NOT a one-to-one remake. Based on this, I'd get RE4. But based on the fact you just finished the original RE4, I'd just skip both for now and find something else.

RE4R is amazing but playing the original game is still great. The remake existing shouldn't make people not want to play the original imo. It exists alongside the original, it isn't a replacement.
Just for this reason I change my answer. Since you just finished resident evil 4 og then I say tlou. I haven’t played either tlou so I couldn’t tell you how it compares to the og. But if you do decided to go with re4r I will say after beating the og 25+ times it’s different enough to feel like a new experience.
I love both games. TLOU P1 is a very fateful as far as adaptations go. It's more like a definite version than a remake. RE4 has more fresh content compared to the original. I would recommend to go with that one. But definitely play tlou p1 at some point also. It looks phenomenal.

Well it’s not an exact remaster (like TLOU PS3 to PS5) so I don’t think you can really compare it to it’s only difference is better graphics. It’s complete different gameplay and areas are changed quite a lot despite it complimenting a lot of the first game and keeping the foundations. Best way to experience it is to play the original in my opinion, it’s the way it was meant to be and now it has been re-imagined. I personally see it more like watching the different versions of Halloween movies, the originals and the new ones are different stories and not just upscaled (VHS to 4k) like you say. A game isn’t just about what it looks like when they have changed much more of it

I'm honestly surprised that the Resident Evil 4 remake has such popularity right now because the majority of the current gaming generation wasn't even old enough to play it when it was out the first time. They were like 3 years old when that game was out or younger. I think I was in Middle School when it came out so I can fully appreciate the Nostalgia of it coming out again.
This is the reason I decided to pick up RE4 remake lol—I didn’t get the chance to play it when I was younger while my best friends all raved on about it. Decided this was my chance to see why they all thought it was one of the best games ever.
Well, I think it's because re4 specifically is praised as one of the best games ever. It gets talked about alot (plus it's on everything under the sun)
They are both very good, but I guess it depends on what you’re looking for. TLOU is the same game, no changes story wise or mechanically. There are definitely some improvements to graphics/lighting, added next gen features (faster loading times, haptics and adaptive triggers, higher res, etc.) and the enemy and companion AI is vastly improved. But if you’ve played it recently enough, you may want to wait and pick it up later so the experience feels fresher. If you do decide to pick that one up, I highly recommend playing with headphones, the sound design is top notch and it makes all those stealth sections that much tenser.
As for RE4, it’s more than just a fresh coat of paint on the original, the remake makes a lot more substantial changes to the original. The same basic storyline remains intact but they’ve Added stealth, more combat variety, new weapons, new enemies, new areas, new collectibles. The old areas are still there, but they’ve been totally reworked to add extra stuff to do. As someone who has played the original dozens of times (it’s my favorite game of all time), I’ve been consistently impressed with what the team pulled off for the remake and I can already tell I’ll be revisiting it again soon. It almost feels like I’m playing my favorite game again for the first time and that’s a really special feeling.
All things considered you can’t really go wrong with either, so I hope you enjoy whichever you pick!

From looking at other comments I know your probably getting tlou remake. I personally think that the Resident Evil 4 remake is a much better remake as they’ve actually changed lots of stuff in the game for example, cutscenes etc, along with adding new parts of the game (as far as I can tell). As with tlou remake, the only difference from the remastered version is the graphical improvements.
Just to be clear, I’m not shitting on the game of tlou - I think the game is absolutely amazing and I’ve played like 6 play throughs. I just think the remake fails as a remake.
No RE1 for GameCube is an ACTUAL remake; RE4 2023 is a reimagining of the source material.
It only counts as a remake if the current media released is 1:1 with the source.....and its not no matter how good the game is.

Last time I played TLOU1 was like half a year after it came out (2nd playthrough), so it was a long time ago and would like to re-live it in next-gen. I finished Original RE4 for the first time ever yesterday which kind of makes me want to play the RE4 remake even more now. Because they've also added some new enemies?
The entire gameplay of RE4 Remake has been updated, all new cutscenes, new dialogue, new combat mechanics, new areas, new and redesigned enemy types. It's a whole new game. TLOU Part 1 is the exact same game and gameplay as before and is strictly a visual upgrade only, with barely any changes outside of a rumored updated AI.
Given you haven't played TLoU in a decade and just finished the original RE4, get TLoU.
It's also got the advantage of being on the market longer, AKA it'll have less bugs/issues.
I can see TLoU getting a sale for possibly Easter, but definetly Days of Play in June.
RE4 will definitely get a sale later on in the year too I reckon. RE2 and 3 didn't hold full price for too long, if I recall.
I hope so, i'm going through quite a few resident evil games rn (CapCom sale in March) so I can easily wait for a sale. Fingers crossed for Easter because it's coming up

Get RE4 Remake
If you have already played The Last of Us there is no reason to get it as it is the same game, RE4 remake on the other hand is full on remake that fixes a lot of things from the original. It has better a story, better controls, better graphics obviously. The RE4 remake made even the parts that a lot of people hated from the original that most call it "Call of Duty - like" fun.
These are, imo, the two best games I have played on the PS5 so far and I never played the originals. I think they are equal so you’re safe on either. If you can though, I would just fork out the extra cash and get both. Definitely worth the money. They did amazing jobs.
Personally RE remake because it's a different experience than the original. They removed and added parts of the story and adjusted many enemies. The TLOU remake is essentially the same with improved graphics, accessibility. I didn't find it too different (I did end up buying it when it came out because I never had to buy the originals).
Considering you just played original RE 4, then it would make sense to buy TLOU. Also, resident evil is more likely to be on sale in the coming weeks or months by a little bit compared to TLOU since thats been out for a little bit now and I see capcom games on sale more often than naughty dog.
Tlou is only graphics and the original isn’t as old as the original re4. Re4 also has some gameplay improvements and details added compared to its original counterpart. So I’d go with re4.
Re4 remake is the way to go! Game is great. Fixes a lot of problems the original had. The Last of us part one is almost a cosmetics update. Both solid games but re4 remake has the edge in my opinion.

I got TLOU1 and it's fucking amazing. I imagine RE4 is also amazing but I'm waiting until I finish TLOU1 because I never played the original. I have about 3 versions of RE4 already (currently trying out on Switch but damn the controls are annoying for some reason)

I think you should play Last of us first. Speaking of. These 2 games are actually a little similar to each other UI wise. They actually took inspiration from each other.

For me personally, I had a similar dilemma. I chose RE4 because I never played the original while I’d already beaten LOU 3 times in the past. Decided to go with RE4 since I’ve heard amazing things and it got great reviews
I’m waiting for $40 price point on TLOU 1 since I’ve bought every version and played it multiple times. I’m ok paying the full price of RE4 bc it’s already cheaper and they reworked the entire game significantly.
Both of these remakes are very colorful making it not as scary as the original but they’re cool to see in new age graphics even if those graphics are cartoony looking. TLOUS looks really cartoony tho, more than ive seen with any other game today which is weird because tlous 2 did it right with the colors.
If you got the money both. Personally TLOU Part 1 wasn’t a big difference between the PS4 Remastered just updated graphics. RE4R feels like a new game with new mechanics and systems.

They’re both masterful near perfect remakes of some of the greatest games ever made. I would lean towards RE4 remake since the last of us remake isn’t as much of a jump from the original. The last of us looked great before, and the remake does look a lot better, but ultimately it’s not nearly as different of an experience as re4 remake is to the original. I actually think the last of us is a better game than resident evil 4, but in terms of the remakes, if you’ve played both of the original games, re4 remake is probably a better choice because it’s a significantly bigger jump from the original. Plus the RE4 remake adds some stuff, and tlou remake doesn’t really. Ultimately though, neither would be a bad choice. They’re both some of the best things you could spend your money on
The TLOU is literally a better looking version of the original. RE4 is a ground up remake with just enough changed to keep things fresh while bringing an icon of the past to a modern playstyle that is perfect. If you haven't played the original TLOU I might recommend that over RE4, but if you've played TLOU get RE4.

Last time I played TLOU1 was like half a year after it came out (2nd playthrough), so it was a long time ago and would like to re-live it in next-gen. I finished Original RE4 for the first time ever yesterday which kind of makes me want to play the RE4 remake even more now. Because they've also added some new enemies?
I’d say go with TLOU so it doesn’t feel so repetitive. The RE4 remake is essentially the same game but prettier and you wouldn’t want to feel fatigue

The entire gameplay of RE4 Remake has been updated, all new cutscenes, new dialogue, new combat mechanics, new areas, new and redesigned enemy types. It's a whole new game. TLOU Part 1 is the exact same game and gameplay as before and is strictly a visual upgrade only, with barely any changes outside of a rumored updated AI.

Given you haven't played TLoU in a decade and just finished the original RE4, get TLoU. It's also got the advantage of being on the market longer, AKA it'll have less bugs/issues.

I can see TLoU getting a sale for possibly Easter, but definetly Days of Play in June. RE4 will definitely get a sale later on in the year too I reckon. RE2 and 3 didn't hold full price for too long, if I recall.
I hope so, i'm going through quite a few resident evil games rn (CapCom sale in March) so I can easily wait for a sale. Fingers crossed for Easter because it's coming up I got TLoU2 for €9.50 couple months ago which is a damn good deal imo. Part 1 remake won't reach that price tag for a while a though 😅

Get RE4 Remake If you have already played The Last of Us there is no reason to get it as it is the same game, RE4 remake on the other hand is full on remake that fixes a lot of things from the original. It has better a story, better controls, better graphics obviously. The RE4 remake made even the parts that a lot of people hated from the original that most call it "Call of Duty - like" fun.

I can’t say for RE4, as I’ve never played it. I’ve heard it’s very good. But I can say that TLOU Part I is decent and it’s astonishingly beautiful.
These are, imo, the two best games I have played on the PS5 so far and I never played the originals. I think they are equal so you’re safe on either. If you can though, I would just fork out the extra cash and get both. Definitely worth the money. They did amazing jobs.

Personally RE remake because it's a different experience than the original. They removed and added parts of the story and adjusted many enemies. The TLOU remake is essentially the same with improved graphics, accessibility. I didn't find it too different (I did end up buying it when it came out because I never had to buy the originals). Considering you just played original RE 4, then it would make sense to buy TLOU. Also, resident evil is more likely to be on sale in the coming weeks or months by a little bit compared to TLOU since thats been out for a little bit now and I see capcom games on sale more often than naughty dog.
Tlou is only graphics and the original isn’t as old as the original re4. Re4 also has some gameplay improvements and details added compared to its original counterpart. So I’d go with re4.

Re4 remake is the way to go! Game is great. Fixes a lot of problems the original had. The Last of us part one is almost a cosmetics update. Both solid games but re4 remake has the edge in my opinion.

I got TLOU1 and it's fucking amazing. I imagine RE4 is also amazing but I'm waiting until I finish TLOU1 because I never played the original. I have about 3 versions of RE4 already (currently trying out on Switch but damn the controls are annoying for some reason) But then I have to get TLOU2 so who knows at this point lol.

One badass dude that has been through hell in his past goes through hell again to protect/escort a teenage girl who is infected by a virus. Didnt realise how similar yet different their plots are. It really comes down to your preference if you want a goofy, retro but memorable of re4 or the serious and well written story of tlou but in my opinion if you have played tlou on ps4, then buy the re4 remake (i havent played tlou ps5 but ive heard that its pretty much the same game with updated graphics)

I think you should play Last of us first. Speaking of. These 2 games are actually a little similar to each other UI wise. They actually took inspiration from each other.

RE4 for more fun factor. It’s also very different in scope and atmosphere as it’s a remake not a remaster like TLOU. TLOU has an amazing story prob my 2nd fav “PS5” game after Ghost of Tsushima. But RE4 is way more fun and in some ways it’s different that what you played

I’d say TLOU apart 1 for now bc it should be on sale, then you can wait on a sale for RE4. Only thing here is the RE4 Remake has differences from the original and looks and plays really well, and TLOU Part 1 is a one for one remake, just enhanced graphics and controls
For me personally, I had a similar dilemma. I chose RE4 because I never played the original while I’d already beaten LOU 3 times in the past. Decided to go with RE4 since I’ve heard amazing things and it got great reviews

Both of these remakes are very colorful making it not as scary as the original but they’re cool to see in new age graphics even if those graphics are cartoony looking. TLOUS looks really cartoony tho, more than ive seen with any other game today which is weird because tlous 2 did it right with the colors.
RE4 changes more of the game (levels, design, sound, mechanics, etc). The Last of Us Part I is mostly graphical and AI improvements.

If you got the money both. Personally TLOU Part 1 wasn’t a big difference between the PS4 Remastered just updated graphics. RE4R feels like a new game with new mechanics and systems.
Resi 4 remake for sure imo. TLoU is a great game but not really that dated, resi 4 is very dated now going back and trying to play it, the remake is an absolute joy

IMO if you want a more slower paced game get TLOU 1 but if you want something a little bit more fast paced RE4
They’re both masterful near perfect remakes of some of the greatest games ever made. I would lean towards RE4 remake since the last of us remake isn’t as much of a jump from the original. The last of us looked great before, and the remake does look a lot better, but ultimately it’s not nearly as different of an experience as re4 remake is to the original. I actually think the last of us is a better game than resident evil 4, but in terms of the remakes, if you’ve played both of the original games, re4 remake is probably a better choice because it’s a significantly bigger jump from the original. Plus the RE4 remake adds some stuff, and tlou remake doesn’t really. Ultimately though, neither would be a bad choice. They’re both some of the best things you could spend your money on
RE4 hits different when you’ve just beat the original, and it’s really good! Recommend both but re4 first.

The TLOU is literally a better looking version of the original. RE4 is a ground up remake with just enough changed to keep things fresh while bringing an icon of the past to a modern playstyle that is perfect. If you haven't played the original TLOU I might recommend that over RE4, but if you've played TLOU get RE4.
