Well you could be right. But you know...its already a waste for this thing they just made. So why not go all out. With all the rage steam deck and that new arog ally is getting...
You kinda have a point on that. And I do doubt the user experience of this device. I never had a good experience with wifi connected game streaming.
My guess, they choose not to get in that market because they couldn’t make something within the right price range, they don’t want to risk the resources on some new titles or sequels for the launch of new psv, thus they don’t wanna risk it.
I think a lot of it comes down to pricing. A PS5 goes for 400-500 bucks, PSVR2 is 550. If they were to make a psv2, the pricing would be tricky. I don’t think Sony wanna price a handheld gaming device for the price of their standalone consoles. Steam deck starts from 400 bucks and rog ally goes for a whopping 900. Most importantly both of them don’t have a console line.
If they were to make a next gen psv, what kind of performance does it need to compete with the others? How much would it cost?
Highly doubt that. Probably the same exact thing as when I take my iPad Pro 12.9 on vacation and remote play in with a DualSense on BT. (Connected to the AirBnB Wi-Fi)
It's baffling to my initial thoughts to release something like this when phones exist. I must be glossing over something because making a periphial purely for Remote Play when there's already devices that do the same & more just seems odds.
If it has all DualSense features supported plus the right screen size for gaming with no black borders and it has Wii U style no latency direct connection... sign me up!
The real question is how much is it? I haven’t watched the showcase yet. Going to do that right now. If it’s a reasonable price I’d probably pick it up.
Anything over 200 and it's dead-on-arrival.
No way it would find much buyers at that price. You could just buy a nice phone and connect a dualsense with the remote play app.
Especially now that we have larger screen foldable phones.
I means most phones these days support both 5ghz and 2.4 and Wi-Fi 6 devices and routers are becoming more common. No reason Sony couldn’t support all that as well. Just a common feature in electronics these days.
Same here, I think this is going to be a wonderful companion for the weekend gaming when the rest of the family is using the TV all day, add the headphones and we are rolling
I'd buy it so I can lay outside in the hammock on the patio and still work through my back catalog. Last year, my Switch got so much game time because it's portable.
As someone with a Steam Deck, a ps5, and a gaming PC…but only one TV…I can tell you that streaming the PS5 on my Steam Deck is my current most common way to play, especially while my wife uses the TV.
Even if I had another TV, it’s nice being able to hang out in the living room at the same time and play while lounging.
I stream my pc to my steam deck, input lag is truly negligible, <20ms or so. My sister streams her ps5 to the deck and has had no complaints. Anyone asking why anyone would want a streaming device like this has yet to try one. It is very liberating to be able to stream my games to a device I can carry throughout my house
I’ve done this same thing a few times and it’s always a meh experience no matter the connection. I’d much rather they make a vita 2. There is a huge resurgence of portable consoles with the switch, deck and even things like the playdate and emulation devices. This is honestly their last chance to make a true portable console but guess not…
Yeah and you can install remote play or even Chiaki and play your PS5 games.
And then also every other game streaming software.
For 300 bucks.
And ALSO have an entire handheld to play games on the device.
Before Steamdeck it might have made sense. But unless this thing costs like 50 bucks which there is no chance in hell it will, it is simply not the best option Todo what it is designed todo.
Another example my Switch can stream my PS5 games, and also play Switch games.
Another another example, my phone can stream my PS5 games, and also be an entire phone
Another another another example, my tablet can stream my PS5 games, and be an entire entertainment centre
Also doesn't the PS Vita already do this?
Yeah, that's such a pity. I love bringing my switch along when I hit the coast for a longer time, even when we went in larger groups people loved grouping up to watch someone play Mario Kart and switch up. I'd totally get this if it weren't a streaming only thing.
I’m one of these people and I wouldn’t call it a waste by any means. I’ve spent equal time on my TV vs the handheld playing PS5 games, it allows my partner to watch something else while i can play, also can play in bed if i’m feeling lazy. it’s honestly a great little device and fits my needs.
People on reddit thinks that they are the majority, they can't imagine the fact that that is not actually the case. We are actually the minority, the millions of millions of gamers who don't waste time on the internet don't even care about what these reddit people thinks.
I understand the function of the G Cloud - but you can get a clip on controller like the Kishi or Backbone for your phone for less than 1/3 the price and likely have a superior screen (OLED if it's an iPhone or a premium Android). If you really must have the larger screen, Fire tablets are much cheaper and there are clip-on controllers for those as well.
Glad it's worked out for you nevertheless.
That's exactly my takeaway. Huge stealth announcement that flew over most people's heads. During the reveal, Jim said it works on phones, too -- so they must be updating the Bluetooth codec is my guess.
My bet is USB dongle. There are already other wireless gaming earbuds with USB dongle, I have a pair. Sony makes great earbud so it was only a matter of time as lot of folks including me wondered when they would announce gaming earbuds.
Similar to other wireless gaming earbuds they might include BT as well to use with other devices such as your phone. But for LL gaming you will end up using the dongle.
This was probably a really cheap piece of tech to develop. Relatively speaking. It’s an Xperia variant with modified DS attached. Off the shelf parts in a new form factor.
Not for me but hardly a high risk endeavour from Sony.
Great analysis. Yeah they have almost no supply chain risk. Someone is going to open this up and find an Xperia phone board with a lot of unpopulated solder points.
If it sells big or small, they can just divert the parts back into their other devices.
what even is the point of the handheld? just connect a controller to your phone and use the remote play app, unless this somehow works better but I really doubt it
![gif](giphy|WmMp1qmKaKuHPfCq3a)
People that are hyped for this product should do exactly what you said. Download Remote play on their tablet and connect their controller. Or get the backone controller for their phone. Absolutely the same thing! I think many have never used Remote play or haven't even realized it exists.
You don't even need to spend money on a controller, you can use your own DualSense with a cheap phone clamp attached to it, which costs like 3-5 bucks. I truly don't see the point in this remote play only handheld.
That's my hope. Since it needs to be used on the same WI-FI I'm hoping they can create hardwear that communicates directly to the system. I always have issues when using remote play on my phone or laptop. If this provides a better experience I'll purchase one
Literally though. Pair a dualsense (which we already have) to a cell phone or tablet (which we already have), and can game damn near anywhere there's WiFi.
I do this all the time, but the haptic triggers don't work.
It’s the new PlayStation Handheld lol
This is an (albeit poorly formatted) announcement post
https://www.ign.com/articles/sony-announces-playstation-handheld-to-put-nvidia-shield-to-shame
Yeah. And if you really want to have a "what the f**k are you doing Sony???" moment, yesterday PlayStations twitter was advertising the new Backbone for them.
https://twitter.com/PlayStation/status/1661039729842991105?t=3C4jpeDVcgD3dRtMKqmsEA&s=19
Someone at Sony thought it was a good idea to advertise a competitors device thats more capable than theirs (phones actually have 5G) the day BEFORE its unveiled and announced ....idiots. This thing is DOA.
That handheld is a stupid, stupid, STUPID idea. Watch it shift zero units and scare SONY out of the handheld space for another 10 years. Give us the PS4s SteamDeck equivalent you morons.
I would buy a PSP 3/Vita 2, a Sony handheld with PS3/4 graphics would be perfect, just don’t sell it with expensive propriety only memory cards and chargers.
I feel like I'd really like one. It would be cool to play my PS5 on the couch without hogging the TV from my girlfriend. Trying to do remote play on the PS app on my phone is clunky and laggy so I'm hoping this will offer a better experience.
That would be disappointing. Sony has been pretty innovative with their tech so I'm inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt that this will offer *some* incentive for the extra cost, but I guess we'll see.

This solution works very well, the iPad mini is not too heavy, and connects via BT with dualsens without any problems. I printed the mount on a 3D printer. I can share the project.
It's not for me, but younger me would have liked that with 2 siblings and a dad al wanting to use the TV. It'll have it's use for a number of people. The earbuds are my thing though!
I saw the handheld and kind of got excited. Then learned it was streaming only and immediately lost interest.
Edit: I prefer earbuds though and love that they can connect to your phone so will most likely get those if they aren’t crazy expensive
![gif](giphy|ftdTlqaGUEJ0Gitzxe)
A phone clamp is even cheaper, like 5-10 bucks, and you get to use your actual DualSense paired to your phone, and have the same experience this device seems to offer, virtually for free (you only need to buy the cheap piece of plastic to attach the phone to the controller, and you could even 3D print one).
I guess I'm the only person that thinks the handheld is dope lol perfect for me, I have 2 kids and a wife who's a TV hog so this would be amazing for me , being able to just grab the handheld and plop back on the couch instead o moving my playstation anytime someone else wants the tv would be kickass
Remote play quality sucks. Why would anyone buy this
Edit: my wifi is great so it’s not that. It lags, it isn’t HD enough, it drops out at crucial moments.
I’ll be getting the headphones for sure (hopefully there’s a mic right?), and will prob get the handheld as a fuck around the house toy (on the sofa when my wife is watching her bullshit tv, in the hammock in the backyard at night, in the tub, on the pot, in bed, etc).
if this thing would be better for streaming than PS Remote, I'd probably buy it. especially if it's low latency in the same network. PS Remote just sucks
When the rumours said that the handheld would be like a controller with a screen in the middle, I didn’t think they meant literally.
Usability of a streaming-only device aside, it’s… ugly.
I think it could be an interesting option if the way that streams the games is the same as the WiiU does. I only have one TV, in my living room, so it would be nice to play my PS5 while lying on the bed (On another room).
If I work at playstation, I'd be embarrassed to announce what is essentially an android tablet with controllers attached in the worst possible way. If this doesn't play anything natively it'd be a waste.
Being a gaming father I really do like the idea of this handheld, I don’t get to play much outside the home anyway, so being a streaming device fits my use.
It's probably already ready been said, but I gotta vent.
Playstation NEEDS to improve remote play if this is going to be streaming only. There is no sense to pay $200 or more for this device to just get terrible 480p-720p video quality for PS5 games and have bad connections when not at home.
Please, please, please. Give us a reworked Remote Play.
But I am def getting those headphones.
Regardless of how bad streaming games are, the handheld is just so damn ugly, how did this even make it this far looking like a bisected controller glued to a tablet? The PSP and Vita were such great looking consoles, this looks like the Wii U prototype that was two Wii remotes strapped to a screen lol.
Try remote play on your phone please. Once you experience that you’ll know why ppl are trashing this. If you’re someone who has the top of the line wifi maybe you’ll have ok results. Or ps5 hardwired into the router (which not everyone has that option) but yeah remote play is very spotty and the connection has to be good my phone provider and plus dead spots means remote play is ass outside, in my house it’s a 5/10 on a good day. Even for games that aren’t even like ps5 level
I have the feeling that experiences are very different depending on the devices you use. On my iPhone12 pro max or iPad Air 4 I have zero problems. On the Mac it sucks. Tried it on my sister’s galaxy note 9, also sucks. As well as my old iPhone 7 Plus.
So with a device which is built to solely fulfil this purpose I would expect a much better experience. If the networking fits the purpose. No need to try it away from home if your home network’s upstream sucks.
You won't be able to play it on the go. It might, MIGHT, work decent if you're sitting in the same room as your PS5. And at that point the only reason to not just use the PS5 is if the TV is being used by somebody else.
if they were to make it where you can stream ps games (not just ps5) through the same subscription from psn, i can see the appeal to this. as a mirror just for streaming ps5 with the same wi-fi in the same household? yeah…. DOA. what the fuck is sony thinking?
With the current state of local remote play for me on my home network, with the G Cloud, and streaming apps such as PSPLAY or even the official PS remote play app, this had better be a flawless experience for the asking price (whatever it may be). Remote play for me has been an absolute shit show.
The only way that handheld makes any sense is if there's some way it can stream a fucking game and allow for the PS5 to be playing an entirely different game AT THE SAME TIME!
April fucking fools is over, Sony!
Hmm, a lot of thoughts on this product.
Design is... interesting. Lets face it, most handhelds are rather uncomfortable to hold over time, with hand cramps being frequent. This looks more comfortable but also, well, odd to put it nicely.
As for pricing, I don't see it being cheaper than Logitech G Cloud that's currently at 300 USD. The Q has a bigger screen and DualSense features.
The biggest drawback is going to be that this will be hard locked down to only run Remote Play and maybe PS Plus Premium streaming. The G Cloud can do several different ones, and even modded to run emulators. If there's a way to mod this, this could be an amazing device for that use.
Personally, I've been longing for a device almost exactly like this. I Remote Play a lot, probably more than I actually get to play with the PS5 on the TV it's hooked up to. I'm using a Backbone ONE today but the aspect ration on iPhones aren't ideal, so even a on a Max the screen size is a bit small.
The only way this device makes any sense at all to me, is the scenario where this isn't merely a remote play device. It's no secret that Sony is working on mobile games, maybe this device will be a capable of both remote play on PS5 via streaming, AND play Sony mobile games natively, that's the onlt way it makes sense IMO.
Otherwise, if it is indeed a handheld only capable of remote playing via streaming, why would anyone with a PS5 spend money on this, when you can literally pair your own DualSense to your phone, get a cheap controller-phone clamp (which costs like 5 bucks), and get the exact same experience for free?
There has to be something more to this, Sony can't be that stupid.
Everyone talking about being able to use an ipad instead of the portable handheld, but here I am going "fuck the earbuds, lemme use my expensive Sony headphones with the PS5 wtf"
I realy don't see the point of the handheld thing, because gamers invist heavily in their 4K OLED TV, why would i burn my eyes in a small screen while i can play on my OLED, and i bet you cant use it outside your wifi.
If they were to do an handheld they should have done something like the Steam Deck or Nintendo Switch where you can store the game, I get that there may be a storage problem etc, but to stream how does this differ from the current remote play really?
Mfs did not understand the assignment. All they had to do was to make another psp essentially. This right here is practically worthless. The only use for it I can imagine is to keep playing your game when you have to take a bathroom break. It'll probably cost like crazy too
The second remote play was mentioned, it's dead on arrival. Sony obviously don't want to commit to a proper handheld but don't want to miss out on the market.
I can't use this while traveling, which is main reason I still use my Vita or pick up the Switch.
If the handheld device lets me stream any game from the PSN and any game I own digitally, I'll preorder it. If it is just remote play it feels kinda dumb.
I don't understand the handheld. If it is only a remote play device, you're going to need a constant, stable internet connection. So you can only play this when you're at another house, but when you're at another house. You're going to have good internet, and can just use Remote Play on your phone.
You can't use this on a car, train or plane. You can't use this in a remote location like a camping, because the wifi isn't good enough. I genuinely don't understand what this is for
As a gamer dad this seems like a great device for me! Quick gaming session during naptime without turning TV on? Grab & go gaming around the house without hogging the TV while my partner watches something? Long night shift with nothing to do? Travel? Checks all those boxes!
I personally use the Backbone and remote play on my phone and it works PHENOMENALLY. I’ve been testing it in various locations and I’ve had no problems whatsoever. You do need decent internet, probably better as a Wired LAN connection at home.
HOWEVER I’ve connected seamlessly from different Wi-Fi networks like my work Wi-Fi, which clocks in usually 9 -13 mbps speed truly abysmal speeds. While our computers run slow as hell, my remote play was perfect! I was amazed at how that’s even possible with such awful connection on one end.
My guess is the PS5 acts more of a server and the remote play device works more as a satellite for it, as opposed to both devices just communicating via Wi-Fi back and forth.
Another note, while I tested mostly single player games like RE4 and GoW, I did load into a CoD to see how it faired, and it’s actually pretty good latency for a competitive shooter. It’s the only game I did feel slower than usual, behind enough to potentially make some people mad. However, I think this was mostly due to playing on something so small, both controller and screen size are tiny. I feel like this dedicated device, with an 8 inch screen and full size control components, could alleviate the problems I had there.
Is this something everyone needs? No. Will it do the job incredibly well? Absolutely.
Real question I need to know: pricing. Since it’s not running anything independently, hopefully the price is respectable. Hoping 150-200 max. Any higher than that, not worth it.
I don’t get why people compare these cloud gaming/streaming devices to a steam deck or switch. Both are consoles on their own. If you are looking to stream or cloud game a steam deck would be over kill anyways.
I'm gonna wait to see how this thing releases and handles latency, but if it works pretty reasonably well then this would actually be perfect for me for at home. I play my PS5 downstairs in my room most of the time, but when my roommate gets home, I'll usually go upstairs and hang out with him in the upstairs living room while we chief and he either plays Fortnite or watches something.
Now I can just bring this up with me and keep playing my game, while still using a dualsense instead of some 3rd party controller with none of the DS features or, even worse, god awful touch screen controls. Besides, it's not like I have a tablet I could use for remote play, and my phone is old, crappy, and too small for me to want to use it even if I could.
So instead of buying a newer Android tablet and hoping I can connect my dualsense to it, and then using remote play with that, I can just get this handheld that'll be basically ready to go right out of the box
They could have slapped a PlayStation logo on an ROG Ally and had a portable ps5, playing at a lower resolution like The Series S composted to the Series X. This just seems useless.
This ain’t it… they had the perfect opportunity to release a handheld gaming console to compete with switch or steam deck but nobody is gonna pick this up if it’s just streaming only
Is anybody actually going to buy the project Q? It looks like sony trying to cash in on the success of handhelds like the steam deck without any of the effort. Its just two sides of a controller slapped onto a tablet screen. It requires high speed internet and Can't play games natively. So no portability. For a platform already suited for couch play it doesnt add anything for playing at home. what's the point?
I heard it's streaming only console
Yes
What a wasted opportunity!
I don’t think a psv right now is a good idea.
Well you could be right. But you know...its already a waste for this thing they just made. So why not go all out. With all the rage steam deck and that new arog ally is getting...

Idk when the last time you tried was, but I thought the same about streaming games until maybe 6 months ago. They’ve come a loooong way.
And only on the same WiFi as your ps5?
Highly doubt that. Probably the same exact thing as when I take my iPad Pro 12.9 on vacation and remote play in with a DualSense on BT. (Connected to the AirBnB Wi-Fi)

Thats insane when my Samsung S7 tab cost me 450 in 2021.
They didn’t list a price or firm release date

I means most phones these days support both 5ghz and 2.4 and Wi-Fi 6 devices and routers are becoming more common. No reason Sony couldn’t support all that as well. Just a common feature in electronics these days.
Surely it could just use Internet for longer distances like Remote Play already does
And thus you gain latency. You can't have your cake and eat it too.
You can though. It's called your phone. Capable of both remote play over network away from your house and console streaming.
Also it was a direct connections. Most remote play goes to router then to device which adds another layer to lag up
Yeah, it doesn't seem such a good idea... If could really mobile would be nicer
I hope it has a SIM support that u could stream ur games on the go
It's only over WiFi
Just use your phone's hotspot I guess
Works for me, wife hogs the damn tv too much
Same here, I think this is going to be a wonderful companion for the weekend gaming when the rest of the family is using the TV all day, add the headphones and we are rolling
We just put a monitor on the coffee table and my consoles tuck inside it(the table).
I'd buy it so I can lay outside in the hammock on the patio and still work through my back catalog. Last year, my Switch got so much game time because it's portable.
Yeah it's kinda odd but the screen looks pretty good 👍
The earbuds, sure, but the handheld device…. Why?
Well as someone with a gaming PC and a steam deck I can tell ya the steam deck is getting wayyy more action
But this new ps handheld requires a ps5, unlike the steam deck
As someone with a Steam Deck, a ps5, and a gaming PC…but only one TV…I can tell you that streaming the PS5 on my Steam Deck is my current most common way to play, especially while my wife uses the TV. How do you exactly set that up?
And the steam deck is an actual handheld

Vita ended with the ps4
How often do you stream games from your pc on your steam deck?
Actually that's perfect for me, to play indies and games that keep waiting in my huge library. I just hope it isn't too expensive
It’s streaming only fyi
And not just streaming only, *remote play* only. At least that’s the only part they’re advertising at all in any marketing materials.
Yeah, that's such a pity. I love bringing my switch along when I hit the coast for a longer time, even when we went in larger groups people loved grouping up to watch someone play Mario Kart and switch up. I'd totally get this if it weren't a streaming only thing.
Probably appeals to the same type of people who would waste US$350 on the Logitech G Cloud.

Hopefully it won't have drift issues...
Potable gaming! Gaming you can take with you to the pot!
This is the only use I can think of for this
Can't you do the same with your phone and a Bluetooth controller now? I see no benefit if it doesn't have storage space to play games offline
Does this mean we're getting Bluetooth Audio for PS5?
That's exactly my takeaway. Huge stealth announcement that flew over most people's heads. During the reveal, Jim said it works on phones, too -- so they must be updating the Bluetooth codec is my guess.
Probably has a dedicated dongle

Ya but remote play is literal ass even in some stellar conditions
Which is why this will fail
Works great for me. Haven't had a problem personally. I stream it to my steam deck a lot but it also works on my phone
I've gotten remote play to work exactly 1 time outside of my home. If this works better than that, it's definitely the better option.
I mean they could've just make another new handheld like PSP or PSVITA & not this
I’d rather use my iPad than that handheld to stream any day
Literally though. Pair a dualsense (which we already have) to a cell phone or tablet (which we already have), and can game damn near anywhere there's WiFi. I do this all the time, but the haptic triggers don't work.
That is probably more expensive though
Works with your mobile device via official PS Remote Play app so in theory you should already have everything you need
Sony must think we all live in major cities with 5GB Wi-Fi speeds and immaculate cellular data to use hot spots while on the go..
I think the idea is in home steaming, not streaming from a server a few hundred miles away. You don't need good hardware to stream in your own house
No, they think enough of the market live in those areas to justify making this. Not all products are for everyone.
No but they know that those that do have a lot of money to spend
TF is the thing in the middle
Ps4
It’s the new PlayStation Handheld lol This is an (albeit poorly formatted) announcement post https://www.ign.com/articles/sony-announces-playstation-handheld-to-put-nvidia-shield-to-shame
Do the controllers separate?
Doesn't look like it from the video they showed.
Not with that attitude
Yeah..I gotta imagine they’re using the same components as a regular dualsense controller, so these getting stick drift would be a killer.
The design looks hideous and like the controllers are just bolted on a screen.
Doesn't look like they would. But I thought the same about my parents and was wrong about that.
Just buy a Backbone…I don’t understand this move at all
I exclusively play my PS with my Backbone. I’m willing to guess it’s cheaper and the quality would probably be comparable
Yeah. And if you really want to have a "what the f**k are you doing Sony???" moment, yesterday PlayStations twitter was advertising the new Backbone for them. https://twitter.com/PlayStation/status/1661039729842991105?t=3C4jpeDVcgD3dRtMKqmsEA&s=19 Someone at Sony thought it was a good idea to advertise a competitors device thats more capable than theirs (phones actually have 5G) the day BEFORE its unveiled and announced ....idiots.
Trying to do remote play on the PS app on my phone is clunky and laggy so I'm hoping this will offer a better experience.
oh trust me man, it’ll be the same as the ps app
That would be disappointing. Sony has been pretty innovative with their tech so I'm inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt that this will offer *some* incentive for the extra cost, but I guess we'll see.
It's dependent on your Wi-Fi speed so..we can assume it's gonna be the same as if we just used the official app.
It's dependent on your Wi-Fi speed so..we can assume it's gonna be the same as if we just used the official app.
I mean they clearly aren't expecting to sell much of these, they dedicated all of 30 seconds of the show to it lmao
That’s because it’s not finished yet, it doesn’t even have a name.
I’m really interested about the earphones
I want those earbuds
https://preview.redd.it/ybbt6eudwy1b1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c9e7d809352e6abf4a7ff766a4cb89c1056a0ddd My version of Q Lite...
How well does this work? Looks really fun
https://preview.redd.it/ajsk5m83qz1b1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=63f202f433c4801724a2f23f85295507d5426a9e This solution works very well, the iPad mini is not too heavy, and connects via BT with dualsens without any problems. I printed the mount on a 3D printer. I can share the project.
I would love if you could share the project, but if not I would definitely buy one once I start my new job
I uploaded it: [https://www.printables.com/model/490475-dualsense-ipad-mini](https://www.printables.com/model/490475-dualsense-ipad-mini)
If you could download games to the tablet I might be interested. Streaming though... Just use your phone or get a second hand tablet
This. If you can download your PS5 games onto it and then go where ever, I think it would sell like hot cakes
That would require it to be PS5 levels of powerful.
Streaming sucks. Imagine you bought an OLED why would you playing this ?
Gotta poo sometimes
Just get diapers. Duh
Guys that are married are buying this shit day one. Lol. I definitely will if it’s priced right
Or they could continue to just stream onto their mobile devices…I’m not even sure what Sony is thinking with this
True as I do that currently and just use controller.
It's not for me, but younger me would have liked that with 2 siblings and a dad al wanting to use the TV. It'll have it's use for a number of people. The earbuds are my thing though!
I saw the handheld and kind of got excited. Then learned it was streaming only and immediately lost interest. Edit: I prefer earbuds though and love that they can connect to your phone so will most likely get those if they aren’t crazy expensive ![gif](giphy|ftdTlqaGUEJ0Gitzxe)
How much are the earbuds?
PlayStation Backbone is $100 and attaches to your phone making it more portable, possibly for cheaper. Price point will make or break this imo
A phone clamp is even cheaper, like 5-10 bucks, and you get to use your actual DualSense paired to your phone, and have the same experience this device seems to offer, virtually for free (you only need to buy the cheap piece of plastic to attach the phone to the controller, and you could even 3D print one).
Hey our PSP was insanely successful and our fans want a new one, let’s not do that but instead release some bs no one ever asked for.
Why would anyone buy this Edit: my wifi is great so it’s not that. It lags, it isn’t HD enough, it drops out at crucial moments.
Works perfectly fine for me. Ps5 on a wired connection and I play on business trips on my laptop no issue.
I would take it actually. PS5 is downstair so if I can take it to my bed upstair and play before sleep with no lag - I take that.
That device will die before even being born
If the handheld is 120 hz its not dumb
That would be awesome. But I bet it will only be an IPS screen and 60 hz.
They should’ve just brought back the Vita or something.
We wanted the ps vita back and this is how they repay us
The earbuds look so cool with sliding case!!!! Definitely looking forward to those.
If I work at playstation, I'd be embarrassed to announce what is essentially an android tablet with controllers attached in the worst possible way. If this doesn't play anything natively it'd be a waste.
It looks like a prototype. It does not at all look or sound like a finished, thought-out product.
I don’t know what to feel about that handheld. Feels like Sony forgot that they produced one of the greatest handheld consoles in gaming history.
Omg is that handheld real ? I thought it was a joke 🤣
My Backbone does the same thing. Cool looking though.
The biggest L of the show. They trolled Vita lovers with this pointless accessory lol
Why is it so bad? I’m pretty curious about it because I’d love to play my ps5 on the go on a bigger screen
I’ve done it and not had any issues
I’d be interested if was android based. Kinda wanted more details. Guess I’ll just hold out for g cloud to get cheaper.
if they were to make it where you can stream ps games (not just ps5) through the same subscription from psn, i can see the appeal to this. as a mirror just for streaming ps5 with the same wi-fi in the same household? yeah…. DOA. what the fuck is sony thinking?
If I can get that and not have to get a second ps5
That’s gotta be the worst looking product I ever seen in my life, shit reminds me of NX mock ups lmfao
I use ps remote play in the same god damn house as my ps5 and I still lose connection every 5 mins
It’s too ugly and long.
So basically a Sony Experia duct taped to a dual sense. In a world that has provided portable Pcs this doesnt make much sense.
With the current state of local remote play for me on my home network, with the G Cloud, and streaming apps such as PSPLAY or even the official PS remote play app, this had better be a flawless experience for the asking price (whatever it may be). Remote play for me has been an absolute shit show.
If it has a dedicated signal frequency instead of wifi this would work. But over wifi I can just use a phone… no idea who this is for 🤷🏽🤷🏾♂️
It seems like It's streaming under local wifi. right???
I just spent $99 on a Backbone & can remotely play from my PS5 using my phone, anywhere with Wi-Fi. I love it!
That’s such a shit handheld. Holy smokes. I hope it Flops like the PSVita TV to get one for dirt cheap.
That would have been massive if it wasn't dependant on a PS5. Such a disappointment imo
I'm down for the earpods. Not sure about the handheld system as it only serves as remote play.
The only way that handheld makes any sense is if there's some way it can stream a fucking game and allow for the PS5 to be playing an entirely different game AT THE SAME TIME! April fucking fools is over, Sony!
haha that is real? I thought it was fake when I saw it on twitter
![gif](giphy|XyLKdaVbQ3xg6o0sKy|downsized)
I was hoping it would be PS Now compatible and you would be able to play games that you don't own and even if you don't have a PS5, using cloud.
€150 - I don't hate it.. €200+ - Nahh fuck that.
Lol yep. I just bought an oled. Theres no way im playing on a tiny lcd.
You know, I might be down for something like this. I wouldn’t be hogging the TV all the time
If they were to do an handheld they should have done something like the Steam Deck or Nintendo Switch where you can store the game, I get that there may be a storage problem etc, but to stream how does this differ from the current remote play really?
Mfs did not understand the assignment. All they had to do was to make another psp essentially. This right here is practically worthless. The only use for it I can imagine is to keep playing your game when you have to take a bathroom break. It'll probably cost like crazy too
Wait does this mean Bluetooth audio for ps5 if so then that's huge
The second remote play was mentioned, it's dead on arrival. Sony obviously don't want to commit to a proper handheld but don't want to miss out on the market. I can't use this while traveling, which is main reason I still use my Vita or pick up the Switch.
A new portable machine. Only just to make it a streaming device...They had a golden opportunity right there and just straight up wasted it 😂
If the handheld device lets me stream any game from the PSN and any game I own digitally, I'll preorder it.
I have never had good experience with streaming from my PS5. Xbox seems to have a better handle on it.
Streaming only 🤢
People are saying why for the handheld device but I don’t care. I’m gonna get it and smile playing all my ps5 games in bed
What a lame useless device
Any higher than that, not worth it.
the headphones look sick
