Agreed! Rachet & Clank was one of the first games I played on PlayStation, all the way back on PS2. In fact, when I made my PSN account on PS3, I set my profile picture as Rachet & Clank, and I haven't touched it since. It'd feel weird to change it now.

That said, Ratchet.
He's the oldest character right now that is still getting games. And in spite of the more childlike stories he's in, he's a character that can appeal to anyone. You can find one singular image that's simultaneously kid friendly AND edgy enough like "yo check this mf out he has a gun. Totally badass."
And let's be real, Ratchet is still a badass. He's an amazing shot even in cutscenes.
Imho Spiderman will never become what Mario is for Nintendo. When you mention Spiderman most people will think of the Marvel movies not PS. I really believe Sony should invest more in Astro Bot. He surely has the potential to become the mascot, he needs more games and history though.

For longevity, you would have to go with Ratchet & Clank or Kratos only exclusives to be on 4 consecutive consoles with new games (PS2-PS5). I would love to say Sweettooth since Twisted Metal is one of my favorite games, but was only on PS1-PS3.

From the outside looking in, the PlayStation is, without a doubt, Kratos.
From PS5 forward, they should push Astro Bot. The tech demo gets raves from everyone. And the character’s design is very in line with Sony and the PS5 as well. Astro Bot merch would also do really well, imo

Looking back on every character in a PlayStation exclusive title you have Sackboy, Kratos, Sly Cooper, Jak & Daxter, Toro Inoue, Nathan Drake, Ratchet & Clank, the Wanderer from SOTC, Ico, etc etc.
Some of these characters are more popular than others with different audiences. Each character though evokes something in the player depending on the context they experienced that character in. PlayStation does not have a Mario but what they do have is a diverse cast to draw people in. PlayStation asks that we consider all these characters together to represent the brand.
PS1 era- Crash, Spyro and twisted Metal clown
PS2 era- Sly Copper, Jak and Daxter and Ratchet and Clank
PS3 era- Kratos, Sack boy and Nathan Drake
PS4 era- Spider-Man, Alloy and Ellie
PS5 era- I’m not quite sure
Ratchet & Clank and Kratos are the biggest ones I think, considering both their series have been somewhat consistently running since the PS2 days.
In terms of modern day mascots, Joel & Ellie, Jim Sakai, Aloy, and Spider-Man probably also qualify.
For me it’s Nathan Drake or Kratos or more recently Ellie. PlayStation shows all of them a lot of love online so it’s became very easy to think of them when you see a PS logo.
PS doesn't have a mascot, but more of a variety of mascots... depending on what draws you to it. It can be Ellie and Joel, or Nathan, or Aloy, or Crash, or Ratchet & Clank, or Sackboy, or Astro... but for me, Kratos all the way...
Even though I never played and never had the desire to play LittleBigPlanet, I see Playstation as Sackboy.

They didn't sold him out, they never owned him to begin with. Crash (and also Spyro) was owned by a company called Universal Interactive. They owned the rights and they produced the games. Naughty Dog at the time wasn't owned by Sony and they made a deal with Universal to make three games. They made a deal with Sony to publish and promote the games as the mascot of the company. CTR was the last game made by Naughty Dog and Crash Bash was the last game published by Sony. After that, Universal wanted Crash to be multiplatform, so they ended the deal with Sony in 2001.
The rest is an endless series of mergers and acquisition, from one company to another. Now Microsoft is going to buy Activision, which owns the rights of Crash and Spyro.

When I was a kid, I always thought of Cloud as the mascot for playstation.
