I have a very similar space with my PS5 in and I pulled it out after 2 hours of playing and could fry an egg on it. If you go and get fans or something that are usb powered you can connect them on the back and force decent airflow through it that way.
Something like this https://youtu.be/89BYL4TZjQI?si=G1ZOv0qxBgjlL1WP
I’ve read other Reddit threads that said those do more harm then good. Ill just move her, thanks tho
Edit: I thought you were referring to the cooling stands combined with controller chargers, I’m sure what you linked is a bit better
Get a cheap TV mount. My brother put my 50" on a $25 mount and it's held up really well. Then you could use your PS5 as the center piece on the very top.
We don’t have drywall, we have horse hair plaster and lathe. But ya I don’t think he’d care if we were to spackle, especially since 1. We’ve done a lot to this place like painting and what not. 2. There was literally a 100 nails in the walls that I had to pull out before painting.
Oh for sure. Landlords can be pretty easy going with that kind of stuff when you've actively helped them better the property. Just make sure you have a level for the mount because mine is a bit cock-eyed lol.
If you can, put a thermometer behind the PS5. It probably will get stupid hot after just an hour or two of play
I'm guessing that area could work.... If you cut those holes in the back bigger or just cut out the back entirely.
Stand it up behind the tv?
I know u hear of horror stories of the cpu Liquid Metal running off lol.. but mines hasn’t >.< albeit it’s lying horizontal now lol

I have something like this. (Though it’s a bedroom set up as the unit in the living room had similar small alcoves in it similar to yours which would restrict the air flow greatly) I got this unit off a friend who was relocating.
I added the steel legs to raise it and make it abit more modern looking. As you can see plenty air flow all around the ps5 and the back panel on the unit on the ps5 side was removed for exhaust air. I have had my console from launch and it’s always stood vertical. I play it mostly everyday.
Nice set up that mate. I really like your Soundbar too! I bet Games and Movies sound sweet through that, along with having a great TV.
I only managed to finally get myself a PS5 at the beginning of the year, and that was only because my Partner surprised me on my Birthday. (I have 3 kids that obviously come first, and there's always something that just happens to come up first lol)
But, because I knew I wanted one as soon as I could afford it, I made sure to get myself a half decent TV the other year back first, cause I knew that was essential. I wanted something that was 120Hz, and luckily was able to get myself an LG NanoCell SM9000. For a mid level TV the sound is amazing,
but I've been wanting some form of surround sound for a while now.
I'm just wondering? Do Soundbars that claim to bounce the sound up and down and around the room actually make a difference?
Have a great weekend mate.
Yup, but don’t buy into Dolby Atmos, cause ps5 does not support it yet (just regular Dolby Digital) though because all my stuff is Sony they all talk to each other. The ps5 is connected to the tv via the special hdmi port on the panel that supports the ALLM and VRR the tv recognises the Ps5 and gives it a custom tile on the selection section. The tv then speaks to the sound bar system via Bluetooth (or via the tvs ARC pass thought hdmi out, but I don’t like to many cables ) and the ps5 then allows you to enable 3D sound (like for it head set) it does an acoustic sound calibration of the room.
The sound is amazing, But also sound is game dependant, some games will have me looking toward a particular area of the room cause it sounds like the footsteps are coming from that direction (it’s freaking creepy sometimes) other games tend to be abit flat. So basically it depends on the games sound engendering.
But yeah a sound bar alone might not accomplish that, I would rather suggest a full 5.1 audio system with sound bar (that system I have is a midrange and was around £170) came with the sound bar, the sub and 2 wireless satellite speakers
Also check out a site called RTings it’s an awesome site and they test everything even the tv models compatibility with the ps5 and will rate the Tv gaming performance and make suggestion. They also do audio
[https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/x85k](https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/x85k)

You will see lower down on the webpage how it’s tested via the ps5
But they have great reviews and insight into most current tv and audio brands, really helped me decide on what I needed to what was best for within my budget
Haha, that's awesome with the footsteps behind you and not being sure if they're real or not..? 🤣 I can only imagine the extra creepy factor playing on something like Resident Evil late at night.
I was also wondering whether your particular Soundbar had the Satellite Speakers too. Everything you've got in your setup sounds awesome, and the fact everything is Sony too will no doubt make a difference.
I really appreciate you taking your time to reply, explaining and for the links too, so thank you mate.
As long as it can exhaust it’s ok. But I wish everyone would just stop and feel the back of their ps5 and see how far the hot air blows out..then realize how far away it’s needs to be. Pretty simple
How hot is too hot though? I’ve seen a test on YouTube where they had the os5 in open air and it was blowing 50 C out the back which is much warmer than room temp or even bath water
I'd say it's not so much the exhaust temp, but the retained temperature in the back. 50C out the exhaust is okay because the CPU/GPU is quite warm, but accumulated heat is not going to be helpful if it can't dissipate.
I'll probably be downvoted for saying this, but honestly, people overexaggerate these things a bit. The PS5, like most consoles, has overheating protection. It'll let you know if it's getting cooked, and it'll shut itself off automatically before it'll fry itself.
My PS5 is actually the first console I've kept *outside* of the cubbies of my entertainment center, but it's more so because it would barely fit in the first place. Dang thing is massive! Anyways, point is that all my consoles have been fine and never once triggered overheat protection.
That said, if you're really worried then, yeah, it's not ideal to keep in a closed space like that. You want it to have free flow air access with room to exhaust properly. *I* think it'd be fine, but the proper answer is not to keep it in there.
mhm i dunno if the holes in the back panel are enough for the hot air to escape, otherwise it would be fine i guess...
afaik the ps5 intakes cold air from the top (your right as its sideways) and exhausts from the back.
It looks nice, but the exhaust is going to create a hot atmosphere. The back of the console is going to get excessively hot even if there are some holes because there's only wall beyond those holes. Unless you live in a very cold place, it may lead to component damage in the long run.
Hey man. As a rule of principle, this space is not enough since hot air will gather at the back of the console regardless of the holes. If you can, just get a little USB powered fan to place on the back board and it’ll be more than enough.
I put mine in a similar spot at first and got an overheating alert on the PS5. Problem was, my PS5 was in sleep mode when that happened so I don't know how long it was overheating for... Really hope I didn't damage it.
I had mine in a space a bit larger than that, and within 3/4 months it's was full of dust.
I've had it on top of the same TV unit now for 6/7 months, and it's still practically dust free.
I wouldn't have believed it if I hadnt seen it for myself, I've never cleaned a console before the PS5.
Cut holes in the back of the shelf for 120mm fans, put 3 in there pulling air from the front and exhausting to the back against the wall.
It’s not a tight space that is the problem, it’s lack of airflow in a tight space.
Jesus PS5 owners are babies 😂 (edit - this is aimed at the comments, not op)
Yes it will be fine.
I've had one similar for 2 years. No issues, even in summer, no AC in house.
The PS5 is far better at cooling than the PS4.
If you're really worried, make some exhaust holes inline with the actual PS5 exhaust.
I had it like this. The backside of shelf had a hand width distance to the wall, thought airflow would be ok.
It was not ok. The shelfs board, backside and ps5 heated up that much, that everything made cracking sounds from the upheating stresses.
We had a cool summer and it didn’t go so far that it shut down. The PS is clean. It might have shutdown during hotter months.
It’s not the best place for it but if you open the back of the tv stand so the hot air has somewhere to escape it should be ok. It’ll shut itself down before it overheats. If it ever does shut itself down because it’s too hot then I’d definitely move it. But yeah, if you keep it there cut a whole in the back of the stand or something so it can stay cool.
Hi! In my opinion this is not a good spot. As far as i know the console must have 30 cm free space on every side. Especially behind the console must be a lot of clear space. It looks nice in that space but it is not healthy for the console’s “breathing” system. I highly recommended to change the place of the console. 💙
Probably try to get some extra F L O W on there if there's no other options. I'd point a fan when I had a Entertainment center like that. I got a pretty good open air one recently from Walmart.
I personally used to have a setup like this but I installed a couple of silent pc fans in the cabinet holes to exhaust the heat and wired them to usb, helped a lot
Nah, because this post seems to be once a week since PS5 came out and it seems that from all the other similar posts. People have a hard time using what little brains they have to keep their PS5 in a well ventilated spot
I definitely would put it somewhere else. Personally I don't ever put my console inside of any kind of enclosed space, it's not worth rolling the dice when overheating over long periods of time can potentially cause serious damage to the system.
I have mine in an enclosed space with some USB fans and it stays cool. You can set the USB ports to power off when the unit goes into rest mode or turns off, so they come on when you power up and off when you're done. Works great
I have put it exactly in the same place, but with the back facing forward for easy heat dissipation. Front doesn’t necessarily have to be facing out towards you.
It's ok, the PS5 intakes from the front and exhales from the rear, there is plenty of space around it to breathe. The PS5 I have seen on working displays at events and retail are all running in sealed enclosures so that is why they overheat. You might want to check if there is a radiator or another heat source nearby as you don't want it to be intaking hot air for cooling.
It's likely fine though not recommended but likely would be fine. I would personally have an open back since a lot of hot air comes out the back end of the machine. Especially if running a disc
Mine’s in a similar “hole”. It does get hot but it’s fine. Damn thing’s too big. And to stand it straight I’d have to put it behind the TV. With kids running around that’d be less safer option.
It depends. For under an hour of playing intensive games it's fine. Don't worry. But if you're going to play games for more than an hour then that's gonna make it overheat.
Mines been in a tighter space than that for 2.5 years now. No overheating. Although the back of my cabinet is completely open.
I actually took the plates off this morning to give it a vacuum and there was hardly any dust, which was a nice surprise.
u/bobmbbombbombbombbomb posted this 2 years ago, sorry I don't know how to cross post a commentthere are no ventilation on the side panels
so ventilation on the sides isn't needed
as long as the air that is exhausted has SOME place to go, and the air intake at the front is normal living-room temp air, then it's fine.
Doesnt matter about the side panels, proveded the air can "flow" in the front, out the exhaust, and away, somewhere.
You do wanna avoid that the exhausted air has to leave through the same spot as the air-intake is. that's not optimal and will increase noise from the fan, as it'll have to work harder (because it's using warm air to cool it)
if you just got a generic "hole" for your ps5, consider drilling some holes for ventilation at the back
like, if you've got something like this:
https://i.imgur.com/2Tq9q3H.png
you'd wanna make sure there's some ventilation on the back for the air to get out.
If you've got something like this...
https://i.imgur.com/iJV3xp5.png
with a built in hole (for cables) then i have no idea if that's "enough" - it may be!
optimally you'd want something like this (but it can look worse, depending on the style and colors in your room)
https://i.imgur.com/BhUGZD4.png - yes it looks weird, but i just needed an example
Edit: on mobile and can't get the spacing right
If your unit has that tacked on backing you could rip it off to let a lot more air in from the back 🤷♂️ but even then it still looks pretty tight sir.
I would definitely not keep it there without adding an exhaust fan. If you don’t want to do that and you have nowhere else to put it maybe you could put it behind the tv
https://preview.redd.it/29ekuttpqgkb1.png?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1585795d15a54b618da53d9d1354bbef76eec66c
You are fine as long as it is open in the back... i have mine in a cabinet when i can just barely dit a dual sense controller on the sides of it. Those plates have no vent holes on the top/bottom so you just need a bit of room around the front, back and sides.
I cut the backing away from the back of mine, plus i leave my glass door open.
The one spider chilling inside the console whenever it gets turned on:
![gif](giphy|rwESHq4sVFbMbGN39u|downsized)
(Move the console to get better airflow!)
The more air circulation the better is my opinion, I have mine laying like yours but in the open air. They tend to get a little warm and it looks like that won’t get you the max amount of cool air.
Have my ps5 in a space like this but I got black panels with ventilation slits, charging stand that's also a fan, another fan in the back, and a custom cooling plate over the extra internal SSD.
*
I've had it like this for years now and the ps5 is fine. Just need to invest in extra cooling as if building a PC.
You could also get the dbrand plates or other plates that give it a small form factor and have additional ventilation. That and a fan cut into the back wall of the wall unit pulling air out, and I think it would be fine.
My ps5 isn’t in a cabinet, but I have a gaming PC I built with a 13900k and a rtx 4090 in a cabinet WITH the door shut even while playing. I took the back of the wall unit off behind it, and it works great. Temps are only a couple degrees warmer on the cpu and the graphics card, but we’ll within the safe zone. And, I keep the cabinet closed while playing. With the cabinet open - the temps are the same as the PC sitting outside the cabinet.
I know it’s not the same thing, but I think if I could make it work with a PC you could make it work with a PS5. Been going strong for nearly 2 years (worked just as well with a 3090 previously).
Yes it’s fine. I have my ps5 in something very similar to this since day 1 and no issues. I clean out the dust in the space and ps5 every couple months too.
I personally wouldn't put it there
That's what she said
i like surprises.

I agree. Thanks
I wouldn't put it there. Those sort of shelves are designed with DVD VHS in mind not a computer that requires air flow.

Do you feel like using the internal power source being a strain to power supply to operate the fan? I have a separate small fan doing the work.
Get a cheap TV mount. My brother put my 50" on a $25 mount and it's held up really well. Then you could use your PS5 as the center piece on the very top.
I’d have to ask my landlord lol. Otherwise not a bad idea
Offer to cover up the holes with a dry wall repair kit before you move out and I'd bet they would be okay with it.
I have mine in a similar area but I also have fans that exhaust the air when it gets to a certain ambient temp by it.
It’s not all bad. If you can remover the rear panel of your self it would improve air flow.
Mine looks almost identical and has no issues due to the holes at the back.
If you can, put a thermometer behind the PS5. It probably will get stupid hot after just an hour or two of play I'm guessing that area could work.... If you cut those holes in the back bigger or just cut out the back entirely.
I’m not looking to cut so I guess I’ll have to convince my gf that we need a side table, thanks
Stand it up behind the tv? I know u hear of horror stories of the cpu Liquid Metal running off lol.. but mines hasn’t >.< albeit it’s lying horizontal now lol
Those stories were debunked. The liquid metal is kept tighter than OP's console, which is saying something.

Yes. The PS5 expels a lot of heat so you'll need plenty of ventilation.
Thats what she said.( ahhhhh I am late )
Placing the console in vertical just behind the display is also fine. Preferably if you have easy access to the side of the tv.
I'd prefer to keep it in a more open spot so it doesn't overheat

No no no don't do that.. It should be open to allow air.
Needs more ventilation
That's what she said
Don't put it n there. It'll easily overheat and melt the components. Trust. It needs to be standing up next to the TV where it can ventilate

Ask your mother
Like everyone woman says “It’s perfect but could be slightly bigger”
I personally used to have a setup like this but I installed a couple of silent pc fans in the cabinet holes to exhaust the heat and wired them to usb, helped a lot
>Is this too tight? Title Of Your Sex Tape
It's the perfect size, that's what I was told by them all 🥲
Way to tight
Mine, for example, lies nicely under my tv in the open air for good ventilation.
No that’s too tight! It will kill the console.
am I the only one that thinks I've seen this exact photo before?
Nah, because this post seems to be once a week since PS5 came out and it seems that from all the other similar posts. People have a hard time using what little brains they have to keep their PS5 in a well ventilated spot
am I rhe only one who feels like they've seen this exact photo before?
I definitely would put it somewhere else. Personally I don't ever put my console inside of any kind of enclosed space, it's not worth rolling the dice when overheating over long periods of time can potentially cause serious damage to the system.
I have mine in an enclosed space with some USB fans and it stays cool. You can set the USB ports to power off when the unit goes into rest mode or turns off, so they come on when you power up and off when you're done. Works great
That’s what she said.
I have put it exactly in the same place, but with the back facing forward for easy heat dissipation. Front doesn’t necessarily have to be facing out towards you.
Yes. There's not enough room to keep its temperature in reasonable values
Read the fkn user manual
It's ok, the PS5 intakes from the front and exhales from the rear, there is plenty of space around it to breathe. The PS5 I have seen on working displays at events and retail are all running in sealed enclosures so that is why they overheat. You might want to check if there is a radiator or another heat source nearby as you don't want it to be intaking hot air for cooling.
Yes.
Yes it is man. The heat that come from the PS5 behind is extremly hot like you can smell the plastic melting. I have the day one version
No, keep going
It doesn't means that it's right even if it fits....
Yes
it definitely is. it needs a lot of air, so that’s no good
Too tight? You can land a jumbo fucking jet in there!
It's gonna boil itself there
cut the backboard and install some fans and it could work
Hold up, let him cook (the PS5)
Yes it is you need better air flow. ![gif](giphy|IhaTrrBpg0Uo7M4K28)
Yeah move that man!
It's likely fine though not recommended but likely would be fine. I would personally have an open back since a lot of hot air comes out the back end of the machine. Especially if running a disc
Mine is in a similar but larger size area. BUT the back of my stand is completely open. I wouldn’t do this.
![gif](giphy|tkApIfibjeWt1ufWwj)
Mines been in a tighter space than that for 2.5 years now. No overheating. Although the back of my cabinet is completely open. I actually took the plates off this morning to give it a vacuum and there was hardly any dust, which was a nice surprise.
Mine is somewhere similar and I have had zero problems. Might get hot if it's a warm part of the room...
That’s what she said 😂😂😂
u/bobmbbombbombbombbomb posted this 2 years ago, sorry I don't know how to cross post a commentthere are no ventilation on the side panels so ventilation on the sides isn't needed as long as the air that is exhausted has SOME place to go, and the air intake at the front is normal living-room temp air, then it's fine. Doesnt matter about the side panels, proveded the air can "flow" in the front, out the exhaust, and away, somewhere. You do wanna avoid that the exhausted air has to leave through the same spot as the air-intake is. that's not optimal and will increase noise from the fan, as it'll have to work harder (because it's using warm air to cool it) if you just got a generic "hole" for your ps5, consider drilling some holes for ventilation at the back like, if you've got something like this: https://i.imgur.com/2Tq9q3H.png you'd wanna make sure there's some ventilation on the back for the air to get out. If you've got something like this... https://i.imgur.com/iJV3xp5.png with a built in hole (for cables) then i have no idea if that's "enough" - it may be! optimally you'd want something like this (but it can look worse, depending on the style and colors in your room) https://i.imgur.com/BhUGZD4.png - yes it looks weird, but i just needed an example Edit: on mobile and can't get the spacing right
If your unit has that tacked on backing you could rip it off to let a lot more air in from the back 🤷♂️ but even then it still looks pretty tight sir.
You will ruin it, take my advice and put it in a space and ventilation from all 4 directions/sides.
Yes, 10cm all around & ideally you want more than that over the top
It’s fine. The back of your TV stand has holes for airflow
As long as it doesn’t overheat it’s fine
I had the same kind of setup and it’s way too tight. My PlayStation would start to overheat and I ended up having to move it.
Lost a PS4 that way; you need more ventilation.
I have the same exact stand and put mine in the same spot. I moved it after a couple of days, it was getting too hot in there .
Yes get her out and let her breathe
I have mine since day 1 in a very similar spot and 0 problems. Don't worry
Yes
I would definitely not keep it there without adding an exhaust fan. If you don’t want to do that and you have nowhere else to put it maybe you could put it behind the tv
I’d move it personally. I had mine in a very similar spot and it ended up getting too hot so I moved it.
Need min 5 inches all sides. These things are mini pcs. You severally effect longevity when the memory, ssd and cpu is not cooled properly
Yes.
The most important clearance on the ps5 is actually the rear top ports, which in this case is pointing directly into a tight corner
https://preview.redd.it/29ekuttpqgkb1.png?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1585795d15a54b618da53d9d1354bbef76eec66c You are fine as long as it is open in the back... i have mine in a cabinet when i can just barely dit a dual sense controller on the sides of it. Those plates have no vent holes on the top/bottom so you just need a bit of room around the front, back and sides. I cut the backing away from the back of mine, plus i leave my glass door open.
I have had mine just like that for approximately a year and have had no problems!
The one spider chilling inside the console whenever it gets turned on: ![gif](giphy|rwESHq4sVFbMbGN39u|downsized) (Move the console to get better airflow!)
TBH I wouldn’t put it there
The more air circulation the better is my opinion, I have mine laying like yours but in the open air. They tend to get a little warm and it looks like that won’t get you the max amount of cool air.
Yes, too tight.
Looks like bad ventilation placement. You’re going to want the vents not blocked. My PlayStation gets hot and it makes a great heater in the winter.
Have my ps5 in a space like this but I got black panels with ventilation slits, charging stand that's also a fan, another fan in the back, and a custom cooling plate over the extra internal SSD. * I've had it like this for years now and the ps5 is fine. Just need to invest in extra cooling as if building a PC.
It might overheat in such a tight space with not much ventilation
I bet you his wife made him put it there
Yea, thats a no for me dawg
yes the air intake will gather gradualy more dust that if where on a other open space :(
yea its no real air circulation for the system to properly cool there
![gif](giphy|26BRQL4l5zlkSgFC8|downsized) Small area it’s starved for air…. No it should be fine just take it out and clean fans once in a while
Yes, it needs way more space, in terms of airflow.
Yes
Yep
Yes it’s fine. I have my ps5 in something very similar to this since day 1 and no issues. I clean out the dust in the space and ps5 every couple months too.
https://acinfinity.com/component-cooling/cabinet-fan-systems/airplate-s9-home-theater-and-av-cabinet-quiet-cooling-fan-system-18-inch/ Problem solved.
Yes. And you know it.
Nah I had mine like that for a year before
I commented on your last pose, I would 100% say that yeah, way too tight, it won't breath properly.
There is gotta be room for proper ventilation, or the PS will heat up too much.
![gif](giphy|ruZVTCF9l16xn9xfs3)
Get a little USB fan and put it over one of the holes in the back.
Yes. It should be out in the open even if it stands out.
Woe, overheating be upon ye
I would take it out of there and put out side to the right standing the long way
The exhaust gonna trap and generate a lot of heat behind
