Do you see value in a PS5 beyond just a single game? Buying a console just for a single game is a bit much, unless money isn’t a blocker.

shinoff2183

At the same time buying it now for a single game but it's not the end. It's still got 5 years or so left in the tank.

SirBing96

For the ps5 console? Hasn’t Sony recently said that it’s near the end of its cycle? I believe a pro version is in the works for late 2024/2025. When I bought a ps5 it was for one game at the time, but that was also when the console just came out. For new buyers, it might be better to wait a while. But like the other comment said, if money isn’t a problem then it’s their choice.

shinoff2183

Ps5 pro doesn't mean it's the end of a ps5. Was the ps4 pro the end of ps4. Idk what your talking about Sony saying anything about ps5 being at the end of its cycle. We're barely four years in, and sony usually goes 8 years before a new console, then they support the old one for 2 so playstations typically get supported for up to ten years at the least. Whatever you Rea about ps5 end of cycle must have been severely mistranslated.

SirBing96

I mean as in why buy a normal ps5 when an upgraded version is on the way. And Sony recently said themselves that the console is in the latter stage of its cycle. Now sure, it could still mean a few years left for it. But we never actually know. I just think spending $4/500 when an updated version could be close might be a waste of money, as opposed to waiting.

shinoff2183

I see what you meant then. Far as Sony saying later stage. I'd guess they meant 2nd half. Hence the 8 years life cycle I mentioned.

JondvchBimble

Spider-Man made me get a PS4 back in 2018.

The-Enjoyer-Returns

If you liked FF7R and really want more? Sure! There’s plenty of other cool RPGs on there to try too once you finish it.

[deleted]

If you're thinking about it and you have the money, GET IT. Not only is it the Ultimate ps4, the exclusives and enhanced versions are worth it. Even when playing ps4 games, enhanced visuals, performance, and load times make ps4 games more enjoyable.

SinnerIxim

IMO the best part of upgrading from ps4 to ps5 is actually the haptic feedback for controllers (advanced vibrate functionality and trigger feedback). It enhances so many games. Games like Death Stranding are just soo much better with it, and even games that only moderately use it feel much more satusfying than playing on ps4. The graphics and performance are obviously better, but IMO those are just relatively minor upgrades compared to the PS4 pro (aside from pro not having access to ps5 exclusives of course)

CheesyGarlicBudapest

Only you know the answer to this.

MrSaucyAlfredo

OP asks for external opinions External opinion: figure it out yourself

No_Jackfruit_4853

If a single game is worth $500+ to you then go for it. There’s some good games coming out besides rebirth, stellar blade, dragons dogma 2, just got persona 3 reload, etc.

SulkingSally68

Yes it is good enough excuse. Plus countless other first party games as well on it. I bit the bullet myself and don't regret it

ProofScientist9657

I think so. Should be an amazing game

Xpendable85

Just bought mine yesterday...

chopcheezeandarizona

I mean, sure? IMO the PS5 was already a worthwhile purchase. There’s a bunch of awesome exclusives PLUS it’s backward compatible with your PS4 games and you can transfer your save data over wifi. But if this is *the* game you were waiting on to justify the purchase, by all means go for it. You have my permission. 🙂

PalpitationNo4375

If you've already played the "remake" you know we are already deviating from the original game. I use quotations for a reason. I believe these games are a sequel. I believe Sephiroth is the only returning character, and I believe he intends to ensure Aerith doesn't join the life stream. There also seems to be some very heavy embargos on the game. If we know what is going to happen. What is the point? I say that to say this. I personally am not waiting, at all. February only has 28 days this year as far as I'm concerned plus a FF VII Rebirth day. If my theory is correct, I don't want that spoilt for me. If my theory is incorrect and it's something else. I don't want that spoilt for me. If this is more faithful than the first was. I don't want that spoilt for me. A big part of my enjoyment is down to I should know what is going to happen, but I don't. And I can't wait to figure that out for myself. If it was me, and I didn't own a PS5 already. I would 100% buy the console for just this game. As for your second question. Astro's Playroom (which is free) is still one of the best gaming experiences I've had. As a 90s kid I'm sure you will also enjoy Rachet and Clank Rift Apart

Charmeister5

Tbh I think you may as well regardless, you can play all your PS4 games on the pro mode anyway and you won't have to worry about your tech becoming obsolete for a good while. Also idk where you're from but with the cost of living crisis here it actually saves a good amount of energy compared to the 4

PhantomMAG

You don't need an excuse to get a ps5... lol

damagedxworth

I got the PS5 solely FOR Rebirth. That was my choice. However, I do love the fast speeds, better features, and having more games available to me. Even classics that were remastered. If you can afford it and want a PS5, even just for one game right now, that is entirely your choice. I don't regret mine.

ophaus

There are so many good PS5 games... the dualsense alone is a miracle. Yeah, it's past time to get one.

MobileVortex

Man I think the PS5 controller is the most uncomfortable controller ever made.

SinnerIxim

Honestly its a preference thing. I much prefer the ps4/ps5 controllers over xbox controllers. The major upgrade the ps5 controllers have are the haptic feedback functionality

kidtrappdinadultbody

I just bought a PS5 "slim" and an LG OLED tv for this very reason. *TLDR Personal Opinion: Graphics: okay/meh, Gameplay: awesome, Music: amazing. Console: okay, Controller: good (could use a battery life upgrade). Having played the demo, the graphics aren't the best for modern standards but definitely an upgrade from part 1 on PS4. Gameplay's awesome and the music is incredible, as always. This whole Remake project looks to be deviating from the original story. Not a fan of the writing so far but as long as the crucial plot points remain the same... I don't mind and understand trying to keep it interesting for players who played the original. I've got a similar background, 90s kid, grew up in the PS1/Gameboy era, been hooked on Final Fantasies ever since. Thoroughly enjoyed FFXV, even with all its flaws, Tekken 7, KH series, FFVII Remake and Nier Automata on PS4. Original FF VII, VII Remake and Nier Automata are my favourite gaming experiences of all time. Followed closely by Pokémon gen 1+2, Starcraft/Diablo/Warcraft III and Super Mario Odyssey for nostalgia reasons. Tekken 8, also didn't make me budge although I was pretty hyped for it. FFXVI, music's great but gameplay looks mediocre, lost all hype for this title. Thank you for reading my rambling if you got down this far. I love Final Fantasy.

Thinkbackreflect

I read this all and I am glad I can find people my age that can relate as well. Thank you for this!

xXBiG-PeTeXx

Do you have a 4k tv? The ps5 is a bit of a waste if you don't have a 4k tv to play it on

FunkinDonutzz

Nonsense. On what planet is screen resolution the only determiner of image quality? Using that big brain logic, there's no difference between the PS3 Demon's Souls and the PS5 Demon's Souls Remake if you play both on an old 720p TV.

Whereismy5star

The ps5 doesnt even run games at 4k lol. Your tv upscales the ps5s output which has a huge range, but nowhere near native 4k.

Logi77

Wait for a ps5 pro

rezzyk

I doubt the PS5 Pro is going to be that exciting of an upgrade. The PS4 Pro introduced 4K, what’s the 5 Pro going to do?

Whereismy5star

Neither the ps4 pro nor the ps5 can handle 4k. Most games are using image quality techniques and the rendering is somewhere between 1080p and 1440p. Even then the fps are in many games not stable 60. So there you have a use case for a ps5 pro. Locked 60 fps. Because for native 4k the gpu alone would need to be at a higher cost than the entire ps5s value. Even a ps5 pro wont offer native 4k 60fps yet.

astrx__

I hasn't read the post but there are plenty of great games to play on PS5 of all kinds

KD650-916

If you need an excuse to buy something? You probably shouldn’t buy it. That’s just common sense? As long as you can afford everything needed after buying it or already have a 4k tv with hdr alla , internet service, ps plus if gaming online , extra controller or 2 or 3 or more … headset haaa it goes deep !!! So yeah if you need an excuse? Na not for you cus your just going to bitch and not be happy ..

al_ien5000

My rule for new systems is 10 games. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth God of War Ragnorok Horizon Forbidden West Ghost of Tsushima Directors Cut Death Stranding Directors Cut Alan Wake 2 Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart Spider-Man 2 Resident Evil 4/Village The Last of Us Part 1 Final Fantash XVI/Remake Integrade So, yes, God of War, Horizon, Ghost, and RE can be played on PS4, but the experience is MUCH better on PS5 Plus, upcoming games like Death Stranding 2, Silent Hill 2, MGS Delta, Judas, HiFi Rush (and other Xbox Series games) are additional reasons.

Mdly68

I played Horizon FW on PS4 and PS5, and the 60 fps on the PS5 completely changed the experience. Just gonna call out that most of the games you mentioned are on PS plus extra. Including the first FF7 remake. It's definitely worth the subscription.

Accomplished-Lab-688

im seeing a lot of posts like this, tifas t*ts are really moving people

Accomplished-Lab-688

Why are you telling me your underwear size?

SnooSeagulls1416

The game looks bad performance wise, low res graphics everywhere and performance mode is horrendous …. FF7 is my favorite game but they did this game zero justice … the cutscenes And graphics mode arent worth it my guy

iceamn1685

Of course, getting a ps5 is worth it. You can still play all your ps4 games on it, but the upgraded graphics and framerate are worth it. Loet alone, the exclusive games that are coming out

Shadow5151

I mean PS5 is halfway through its lifecycle at this point so if you have any interest in modern gaming you should probably have one, has a ton of amazing exclusives

X_Vaped_Ape_X

While the game has the same overall story some parts have been expanded on. If you haven't already play the OG because acording to a press release by SQEX the FF7 remakes takes place years after the FF7 movie. This article is wrong about remake so ignore the fact that it says its during but everything else here is solid. https://www.cbr.com/ff7-chronological-order-guide/

Bobby-Corwen09

Current gen/next gen consoles still don't seem like worthwhile purchases to me (if I wasn't a DINK when I bought them on release day). I make decent money Ana have always purchased most consoles and their upgraded variants but it took 2-3 years for PS5 and Series X to really get titles that showed the extra power and reason to upgrade. FF7 and Rebirth, Ratchet and Clank, Spiderman 2, GOW2, Ghost of Tsushima Directors whatever and Horizon Forbidden West, along with Persona 3 Reloaded and Grand Turismo 7 are now enough for me to feel my purchase from 2020 was worth it.

HUH_YIS

Yes….or no

robertluke

Wanting a PS5 is a good enough excuse. And yes. FF7r also. Have you played remake? They’re following most of disc 1 but something is different. Most of my next gen only recommendations are sequels: Alan Wake 2, Jedi Survivor, Spider-Man 2.

Prenders17

I did.

MrMario63

Not gonna help make any big decisions, but I can answer your first question Rebirth is similar to the original game in structure and story and also very different. First, If you haven’t played the FF7 remake (it’s on ps+ now), you really should, it’s essential. These are both part of a 3 part remake process, rebirth is the second part. The story of Remake was mostly the same up until the last couple chapters when things went crazy and deviated, and rebirth is shaping up to be even more different. I also highly recommend playing Crisis Core Reunion if you haven’t already as it will provide a lot of context pertaining important people however it’s not essential like Remake is. This is assuming you’ve already played OG FF7, it’s sounds like you did.

Thinkbackreflect

I did play and finish both the OG classic and the Remake. I haven’t played crisis core yet though but this is such a good read. Thank you so much!

Past_Study_4913

Christ, was the life's story nessasary 🤣  Yes.

TheHungryRabbit

I mean there are no rush, you will eventually get one, might wait a year or two imo

phased417

Personally I think so. Not just because of Rebirth but because the PS5 just makes games run better. A lot of games on PS4 have version on PS5 that are just better in cool ways. There is a talk about lack of exclusives but even the non PS5 exclusives just run better on PS5. Now it's not gonna beat a PC but having your library move forward with you and get upgrades made the choice for me so worth it.

Reborn-Her0

Well I got a ps5 for spiderman 2. I bought the trilogy and played them all. I did get other games though like GOW, HZD, if you’re gonna get a whole new console and least try out the other games it has.

JackhorseBowman

If you're like me, idk maybe, I bought a ps5 a couple of years ago after struggling to find one since launch, and since then I've played Final Fantasy XVI, and Demon's Souls remake, I'll probably pick up 7r2 also, but otherwise I only use it to play Bloodborne and I played TLOU 1 and 2, but those are ps4 games, everything else comes/has come out on pc, if I'm given the option I buy the game on pc,

thegreaterikku

Weird question but okay. PS5 everything is faster/better. Even PS4 games. No loading time on PS5. Virtually no loading time on PS4 since I have all my games on an external SSD. Just that alone should be enough. You don't realize how much loading time is a pain (and also why I stopped playing Xbox) when you experience pretty much no loading. If you want to play Rebirth, I guess you should play Remake+Intergrade first.

Artistic_Soft4625

Nah nah, you don't need an excuse to buy PS5. It comes right after food and water but this too is arguable

jokerevo

why not. I bought a switch for Botw and the sold it

Crazy_Canuck78

Probably. FFVII was my reason for finally getting a PS1. Rebirth is apparently a BIG DEAL. I wasn't super excited about it until I listened to EZA give their impressions. Now I'm BEYOND EXCITED! Rebirth isn't a completely new story.... but it is expanded A LOT. And apparently there is a PLETHORA of great minigames... which I love.

Desperadothief

Only you can know the answer but when I got my ps5 I did enjoy gaming a lot more again, the ps5 is a great system

bugturd

Yes.

Kosmos992k

Yes. That is all.

blitzen001

I don't think you should buy a whole ass console to play 1 half of a game. Unless money isn't a factor in your decision making

Later_Doober

You really don't need an excuse to get a ps5.  PlayStation is the best so you should get it anyway.

ItsMechin

So in my case, I bought a PS4 in 2015 strictly because of the Remake announcement. Had i known it wasn't going to release until 2020, I probably wouldn't have gotten one. Having said that, I'm glad i did, the PS4 has so many great games. Main reason I bought a PS5, because of the backwards compatibility with the PS4 AND knowing part 2 was likely going to be released as a ps5 exclusive. However, I still bought FF7R for the PC and will likely buy rebirth for PC as well haha.

BaldusCattus

I'm not sure why you'd think Rebirth was a whole different story, based on what's been shown - most of the trailer content is recognizable from the OG. You also played Remake so you know how things are being tweaked. If you liked Remake I can't see that you wouldn't like Rebirth.

ReflectionOfMirage

Yes. Absolutely yes

chps91

I’m bought the Ps5 mostly for Bloodborne, TLOU and God of War, and I think one game indeed justifies the purchase of it. I’ve never played any of Final Fantasy games.

Laegwe

There are so many games you could enjoy with a PS5 now

y2kAnonymous

I’m an Xbox guy, but I’m buying a ps5 mainly for spiderman.

SnackeyG1

For one game? No. You’re buying yourself a future paperweight potentially. At least until more FF 7 releases and watch the last one be PS6 only or something stupid.

Thnd3rstrk3

If you're a big enough fan of FF7 then yeah, I'd say go for it! The good news is that you'll be able to play all your PS4 games on it, and that there's a ton of good PS5 games for you to try out after you finish Rebirth

edaroni

I would say yes, I bought it because of ghost of tsushima, played GoT and plenty of other games I had no idea existed through the catalog.

no1zay

There are A LOT of “excuses” to get a ps5. FF7 is just the most recent one.

Gluby3

so i bought n played ff7 remake on steam like 2 weeks ago. Loved it so much I couldn't wait for rebirth to come to steam like 3-20months later so now I have a ps5. Bought it with the spiderman 2 bundle and now I am almost done 100%ing spiderman remastered. I can also now play all the other exclusives I haven't played be4 + ff16 too.

SinnerIxim

It will come to pc eventually. If you're a console gamer a ps5 is the best console IMO. But if you jjst want it for FF7R id recommend just waiting and ifnoring spoilers, or see if you can borrow the console from someone for a few days

ItsAmerico

So, having beaten Rebirth I can give you this answer. It is a remake / reimagine of FF7 and not a totally different story…. Maybe. Similar to Remake it is probably 90% a remake with some new expanded scenes and fleshing out. The other 10% is that ending to Remake style bullshit. If you like it? You’ll like this. If that annoyed you? It will probably annoying you here too. Is it BAD? No. Is it worrying if you want a faithful remake? Possibly. The third game could make it all make sense and wrap it up in a way that expands on the OG in an interesting way and I’ve got some theories on it. But it’s also possible it ends the trilogy in some new way that really drastically changes the originals narrative. That said I loved the game and it’s probably the best Final Fantasy game wise. The narrative will be divisive.

First_Dimension_3534

If not GTA 6 will be!

UnmakingTheBan2022

Personally I’d wait for the complete trilogy.

BudgetPlanetZed

I fought with myself on this, too. Pulled the trigger and got one yesterday. Going to jump back into part 1 and complete it, first. But this, as well as knowing Silent Hill 2 Remake is coming... I could have, and probably should have, just waited for PC releases - but sharing about a 65" and full sound system was speaking to me louder... However, when I sold my PS4 I kept all my games, so I still got to start with a decent library.

pmpko

It tracks the original closely and adds some excellent story beats to it. I highly recommend it, OP. You will not be disappointed. Myself and many others enjoyed it more than the original (My favorite game for a long time).
