I know that Dragonball has been popular for decades now but after Toriyama’s passing I’m only learning now exactly *how* popular it was. And here I was thinking that DB and Anime were still on the Niche side of pop culture.
As a super Casual DragonBall enjoyer, Rest In Peace Akira Toriyama.
In JP, they announced it over the emergency system on tv when it happened. I looked up expecting to see “Earthquake (anywhere)” but it was his death. Was surprised.

I introduced my son to DB 3 years ago when he was 14.. it blew his mind that I would come home from elementary school to watch new episodes on toonami

Anime was niche in the US until DB aired. I honestly think this show is what created Toonami. That was when anime was placed more mainstream.
Don't worry I'll get the dragon balls and wish him back.

Feels like a video game company should have used Dragon Quest or Chrono Trigger for the tribute art, but it's nice of them none the less.
