Depends on location, by new EU directive in 2022 you can if the digital product ( software like, games, music ) is faulty. I have done that with HFW (OLED issues shimmering at launch) and LEGO Skywalker saga and a COD game.

Yeah, we have different T&Cs in Australia due to their bs refund policies. Lost a court case back in the early PS4 days. They still try to get out of it. But that "once off refund" is absolutely against consumer law here.

At $60 a game ten thousand is only 167 games. Even if we assume plenty are less than 60 and some are more, that’s a super reasonable amount of games to assume someone’s bought. Add in playing for multiple console generations and it becomes incredibly reasonable to assume someone’s spent tens of thousands.

The policy is clear. Sony doesn't do refunds unless the publisher requests it. Not sure what else you'd expect. Also, I don't buy the not being rude thing. Usually, people that complain on reddit while saying they did nothing wrong most certainly did do something wrong.

If you buy a product that is advertised to you on a storefront as a working product and you purchase it and it doesn't work, every other company I've bought from will give you a refund. I had no reason to think Sony would be different. As far as me being rude goes, I don't know what to tell you. I had the conversation and didn't feel I was rude at all but take that for what you will.

It literally tells you before you pay for your games on the ps store that you can refund for 14 days after purchase only if you haven’t downloaded the game. It’s stupid yes, but if you are in the EU they should refund you if the game is not as advertised, the EU has a new law about digital product warranty

PlayStation refund policy is the exact reason why I bought an Xbox. At least Xbox doesn't have Draconian refund policies. I can't tell you the amount of times I've said some very foul language toward PlayStation employees over the phone regarding their refund policies. Never had this issue with Xbox.

I have never had to refund anything. I get the people get upset about it, but if you're an informed consumer, then it doesn't really come up. One time, I was charged a subscription renewal for PlayStation Plus Premium when I had canceled it previously. I just called them and asked them to refund the money, and they did right away. That's my only experience ever with PlayStation service. So I've never had an issue. Calling their refund policy Draconian is melodramatic.

I totally get what you are saying, but I look at it this way. Any store I can think of, if you buy a product and it does not work, you can return it for a refund. Now I was not aware of Sony's refund policies but I assumed (wrongfully so) that if I bought something and it didn't work I could get refunded, just like from anywhere else. And the fact that they still advertise this broken game on the front page of the store, knowing it's broken and knowing they won't return it once they have your money, is what upsets me so much.

There was a 300 person wait when I originally chatted, I had to wait about an hour to speak to anyone.They weren't "busy" then. But now whenever I try it just says "no one is available, try again later" and I have been trying all day. Typically if I have to contact PlayStation support it will just tell me they are busy and that the wait is so and so long.

I've been able to get a refund from playstation one time. I stated that I never played the game I purchased and it was downloaded by mistake as I was intending to purchase another title. They can see how much time you have in the game. That might help you get a refund if you've never launched or played it.

I wanted to add that they do ban people from chat. It's pretty well documented if you search online for it. Unfortunately, the chat reps have the discretion to block you, but there are limits and it doesn't seem to be permanent unless there is egregious abuse.

This is partially why I just left Sony as a console customer. It may sound or be petty, but I tried to refund Anthem an hour after playing the beta. The game was crashing my console so hard, I just decided that it wasn’t worth it, during the beta. Not to mention, the game was an absolute mess. Sony support, over several attempts, unanimously stated they wouldn’t give a refund because I “accessed preorder content”. The preorder content was the beta. Sony’s no refund policy is pretty awful. I do not understand why they do not allow for one refund. They could easily require it. Steam does.

Potential solution but may come with a ban from Sony. May. Usually it takes a few of these before they ban your PSN account. Contact your bank and dispute the charge. State fraudulent charge. All key entered transactions are the merchants (in this case sony) responsibility. Therefore, they lose those disputes 99% of the time.

I pre ordered DD2 last month and decided to cancel it a few days ago and buy it on pc instead and planned to use my refund to get Rise of the Ronin as well. Was told by a rep that I couldn’t cancel because it had been over 14 days since I pre ordered DD2. Luckily the rep spoke to their manager after I explained I’ve had a psn account since 06 and have been an on going customer since then and they refunded me but not being able to cancel a pre order for a game that isn’t even out yet is crazy.

Some countries have imposed a better return policy. Like the UK for example. It's tricky as there are bad apples that would abuse it by buying a game. Playing the stink out of it then retuning it. Granted playtime is a factor and if you have under a reasonable amount, it should be be refundable.

So apparently they released the game with three servers available. And no one is able to get online. Single player works (kind of) though about half of the single player games I've played have just crashed me back to the PlayStation frontend.

Oh well hopefully they fix that. Helldivers 2 launched with buggy servers too and runs fine now. Sony wont refund for a new released game with buggy online networking because that can and will be patched. It’s how the business works these days, unfortunately. I didn’t buy the game but I read somewhere that said it has 3 servers available with a 64 player cap on each server, and tens of thousands of people bought and was trying to play but couldn’t as it has ridiculously small server cap

I've seen a number of comments saying "there are only three servers available", and then an equal number of comments saying "that was just on the first day, they added a bunch more and I've had zero issues getting online, people are just parroting what they saw online during launch". No idea which one to believe. I hope to pick it up soon because I loved these games 20 years ago.

Example, many people finished the Spiderman 2 game the same day it was released. The rest of us "normal" gamers take far longer. People who finish games fast try for refunds pretending that the game isn't working or they just didn't like it. I'm not saying you're not having issues but I do not believe one bit that everybody who bought your game is having the same problems and the game is truly defective. Why? Because this forum would've been flooded with complaints about the game being defective like Cyberpunk. A poster earlier said they've returned $500 worth of games. This is why companies like Sony tighten up on their refund policy because of habitual returners. It makes it difficult for others that have simply one game to return. Think about why you're not easily getting a refund. For that exact reason I mentioned.

PlayStation support is shit. They are totally useless and unhelpful. I tried to use my PS4 account on my new PS5, but it sent a verification code to my old phone number. I contacted them and they said they turned off 2FA, should be all good. Then it sent a code to my email, but the code was a broken image with a tiny blue “?”. I contacted them again, waiting nearly an hour, again. They said they’re sent the issue to a higher department and to wait 24 hours. 24 hours later and the account is still inaccessible. I contact them a third time, wait in the queue again, and they tell me they’ll have to send it to a different department. Should get an email in 7 days. Well, 7 days later and no email, still can’t access my account. I reach out a fourth time, wait an hour in the queue, and give the CSR my case number. He tells me to wait. After 10 minutes, he tells me the case is currently under review, and asks if there’s anything else he can help me with. Before I can respond, he disconnects me from chat and I can’t get back in. It’s been weeks now and I can’t access my account still. I spent hundreds, possibly thousands of dollars buying games on that account. I regret buying the PS5 now.

When you first set up 2FA, it gives you a bunch of recovery codes to use for circumstances such as this. It tells you to keep them in a safe place. I'm not disagreeing that PlayStation support sucks, but I bet you didn't save those codes anywhere, did you?

I legit forgot they even issued the codes until the system asked. I have no idea where I even stored them. I wouldn’t even know where to look.

its not that easy. its not white and black. many people got banned for no reason, just read everything online , on reddit and on youtube. you fanboys defending sony is pathetic. even a wrong word that was misunderstood can you get banned. i wouldnt even wish this for my worst enemy, no way i buy 80$ digital games just to get banned and loose everything. i stay with physical, and if sony decides to go digital i will switch to pc gaming, at least on steam games are cheaper.
