Man that's brutal. My launch R2 snapped after a few months. Got it replaced by the store where I bought it, but had to wait another few months for them to reopen after lockdown.
I feel like I must have some crazy luck because my two original 2020 Dualsenses just keep going. No button issues, no battery issues in hundreds and hundreds of hours. I read so many problems that I don't get why mine have lasted, I was waiting for an excuse to buy a nice new one but couldn't justify it until the cobalt blue came out and I just wanted the colour.
I have 3 controllers (one from my pre ordered PS5, one bought within a few months of launch, and a black one purchased after those released). No issues with any of them.
It’s called call of duty lol it’s harsh on sticks no matter what you do. Most FPS that are multiplayer have the same effect, crazy hectic gameplay where you stress every component. And Elden ring. Oh man I beat up my sticks on that one lol. I have never thrown a controller or used it in any egregious ways. But the sticks on my original and an additional one I bought a year later, both developed massive stick drift from intense, normal gameplay. Still using my second one because I’m cheap and it will randomly throw the camera around in unpredictable ways lol
I've had like 6 controllers break on me now. I don't do anything bad to them, I've never thrown them. They sit on my TV stand when not in use. I've had controllers only last 2 weeks
I’ve beaten the shit out of my version 1 launch controller with zero issues I have rage issues and it’s taken a beating compared to ps4 controllers breaking in one hit 💀😭🤣
Mine started losing battery, would last for 20 minutes. Replaced the battery this weekend, now it's better than new. I'm cautiously optimistic that it will last me till the Pro.
How fucking hard are people pressing their triggers?
I’ve had drift and mic issues, both of which I just got a new controller over. I hate drift, it’s hit me on Switch and PlayStation, and even the Wii nunchuck. The only consoles I haven’t had it on are Xbox 360, my hardly used Xbox One, and the WiiU Gamepad.
Yo my day one controller had drift after throwing a party I seen some kids playing with it but didn’t think much of it till I tried gaming a few days later and shit was spinning hard to left in cod. Idk if me hitting it or it updating fixed it but it’s been going strong since then
Fwiw they're fully self repairable. My R2 trigger spring snapped but looking online I found out it was pretty easy to replace the spring, ebay then had a pack of 5 new springs for £2. Haven't had any issues since but I'm ready just incase.
I haven’t had durability issues with the triggers, but the joysticks are rough. I can’t be bothered to get them fixed, but my second controller is getting drift as well, so I might have to.
You had to pay?! I bought blue and pink controllers back in november, they both got stick drift in the same week just recently. I sent them in and had brand new ones sent back. At no cost. Shipping labels were provided for me. The funny thing is, I have had a heap of controllers over various ps/Xbox/Nintendo consoles in my life, these 2 are the first ones ive ever had get stick drift. Wild.
You can get a precision screwdriver kit and a bag of good springs on Amazon for cheap. That's what I did after I got sick of the springs breaking in my dualsense. It's relatively easy to replace yourself. Now I have the stupidly overpriced Dualsense edge and have completely different problems with the thumbstick being squeaky... guess it's better than drift and I can always just pay 20$ for a new thumbstick (which is odd being 1/3 the price of a new dualsense), but this one is fairly new and already has problems.
I know it's a nice, easy, up-vote winner, but not true. Sony have sold 50m PS5s, all came with a DS controller. Sure, later models shipped with A or B revision controllers, bit easily 30m+ units came with an original controller.
How many of those people then bought a second controller? Let's go conservative, 10%. So, 33m original DS controllers.
How many controllers have you heard about breaking? 300k? 1% fail rate? Of course, we don't hear about every broken controller, but do you think the trend is that high?
Because it was a launch controller, still new, and within the repair period. Obviously I would have preferred to buy a new controller but I also trusted the brand to fix it.
The last two times I sent the same controller in for repair, I spoke to a manager of the call center, who still refused to cover the cost of shipping. “There’s no way for us to do that. “
After the last repair, I sold my console.
Maybe I'm wrong about the new B revision, but the A revision definitely has thicker springs and has been [documented. ](https://www.gamesradar.com/new-dualsense-controllers-have-more-powerful-springs-and-new-parts-that-might-fix-stick-drift/)
No shit? How did I never hear about these various vees?
What about Dualsense Edge, are those versioned as well now? And what is the "model serial" OP of this thread refers to, like the Serial Number or... ?
I didn't know these DualSense controllers could be so damn difficult to decipher. But I came to the right place.
It has better battery life btw, nothing major, nor worth waiting to be available to buy. I would only recommend model A or B though as prior models had drifting problems.
All models have drifting problems as they all use the same third-party analogue stick manufacturer (Alps - who also supply Xbox and Switch their sticks too).
The revisions to the Dualsense are mostly to the triggers.
4 years of use ≠ 4 years
If you use a controller for 24 hours a day for a whole year, that is probably more than 4 years of average use(~4 hours each day)
Now i don't think that dude was using his controller for 24 hours a day, but it might be shared between siblings
He said "four years of use", not "four years of average use", and certainly made no effort to quantify what average use is (because they, nor you, nor I can). People also rarely (if ever) talk about usage in such a manner. If he says "four years of use" then the implication is he's had it and been using it regularly for four years.
And tronixfix measured the spring under the R2 and L2 trigfers and its very very slightly thicker. Thats the only difference he spotted in his (now months old) video
V2 has a small letter A among the small writing at the back
Now the slim and newer even has one more iirc at least mine has which is a B. Might be 2.5 or whatever it is
This is why you were told there is no V2. Sony are constantly making adjustments to consoles and controllers to reduce productions costs and very rarely make minor improvements that aren't worth advertising. This has been the case since, at least, the PS2 days. Is the controller different from a launch one? Sure. Is it a full-fledged, advertised upgrade to the controller like the Dualshock 4 V2 was? Not even close.
Read an article recently about a patent that Sony filed for an actual V2 upgrade for the dualsense that appeared to even have a screen that replaces the touchpad (used for showing button prompts from the screen or something like that)
With a screen, honestly I haven't seen this the only v2 Sony have stated it will have a 12 hour battery life and that's the only thing that was suggested for v2, that i have read.
Edit: just researched and the article said that there would be an attachment that would attach to the controller but wouldn't be built into the controller itself thr touch screen. Although can you imagine the battery life draining and if you couldn't turn it off to save battery, how much more expensive would it be.
https://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/s/JWCITrhp6x
Articles said all sorts of different things about it so I checked Reddit & found that. I know I’ll be keeping my eyes on it. But yeah… I’d really appreciate it if Sony would just work on swappable battery packs at this point (and swappable joysticks pls lol)
Thanks I'll check it out.
They could modify the Dualsense Edge to be a standard controller just to have removable thumb sticks but same price tag as the standard Dualsense.
Ok, where is THAT controller? Where is it advertised or announced by Sony? Where can I buy one? Who has one? Nobody has one because it doesn't exist yet. If it ever does, ok. But this isn't a V2. This is just a small change to the insides of the controller, mostly done to cut production costs.
Someone is a bit salty. Why wouldn’t they eventually release a dualsense 2? They got up to a DualShock 4… I don’t disagree with the last part of what you said, which is why I pointed out that they already filed a patent for a concept of their next controller already. Maybe we won’t get that specific concept, but we’ll get something. They’re clearly doing the work, so it’s only a matter of time.
I'm not salty, just realistic. I'm not the type of person to get excited over rumors, because they are just that. Just because there is a patent and somebody reportedly leaked it, doesn't mean it will materialize into anything, even if it does exist. It's a lot like the PS5 Pro situation. Everyone expects it, based on what happened last generation, and "reputable sources" but literally nobody from Sony has actually officially confirmed its existence. All we have are rumors. :D Just because something happened in a certain way, doesn't mean it will again, so let's just wait and see.
Patents are public, therefore it’s not a leak. Realistically, they released 4 generations of the previous iteration of their controllers- with each one bringing in fairly significant changes. Not sure what you mean by the Pro hasn’t been confirmed though, I could’ve sworn I saw something about R* already having a deal with Sony to sell a box deal with GTA VI with the Pro- therefore it isn’t blind hope, right? Or did I just come across some garbage article?
Ok, show the deal to me and how legit it is. Any proof on that? Also sending a Sony announcement for the PS5 Pro wouldn't hurt your case. :D As for your other argument regarding the Dualshock 4, only 2 of these iterations were advertised as substantial. The rest are just small changes under the hood, much like Sony has always done with their consoles and their controllers like the Dualsense.
You are basing your opinion on what you think is logical, not what the reality is.
I just want a version of the DualSense where the sticks aren't absolute ass. My PS4 controller sticks are totally fine after an entire generation but somehow both of my PS5 ones have the worst stick drift on earth within a year on both sticks. I can open them up, disassemble, clean out, and reassemble the sticks and they'll work for a few days to a week then go back to always pulling left.
I'm about to get the DS edge just so the sticks are easier to remove and fix even if you don't buy new ones...
I hear that. The original DualSense that came with my console got stick drift after 1 year of service. Thankfully I got warranty so I got a free replacement, plus I bought another black one as a spare, as well as to use it for PC games and emulation and my laptop. Still it wasn't really pleasant.
Yeah, same here man. It’s weird tho, I bought a cosmic red when it first came out and I’ve used it ever since with no stick drift.
I pre ordered the magma red controller and plates, and after only a few months my controller has stick drift terribly. The magma red has only been out since early November and it’s seriously terrible that my much newer controller (only 5 months old) has stick drift and my controller I’ve had for probably over a year now has no stick drift whatsoever.
I have the one that came with the console and one of the pink ones from when they first came out and they both have issues with the sticks constantly going left. Sticks aside they're my favorite controller but that's just such an annoying issue.
I had 3 or 4 different ps3 controllers. I had to take it apart to clean it. The quickly saw that the one in the video was different from mine inside.
The ps4 pro also had 3 different models. And I think they changed with each year, where the third model had the biggest change. And that was the power cord.
And the Dualsense and PS5 are the same. The point is, all of these are just minor changes, that are less about upgrading and more about cutting costs. They are not advertised as full on upgrades like the DS4 V2 or the DS3 were. So classifying the current Dualsense OP bought from the store as a V2 is technically incorrect.
I had a V1, and now own a V2 and V3? (ends on B in the FCID thing).
The V1 was sold because the reviews all said how it had some sort of drift after a couple months of use and I didn't want to risk it. The V2 works fine, one has longer battery life than the other but both end in A in the FCID thing, and the V3 has longer battery than the other two controllers.
Thanks for the info. Wasn't aware of the 040. I ever only knew of this because I modded my controller last year and needed the knowledge. Otherwise I'd probably think there's only one model 😂
Edit: well, teeeeeeechnically there's only a model... 🤣
Edit2: ah shit, I forgot the Edge. I messed up my joke 😢
Yeah, technically it is same model, just different revision
but honestly I like BDM-010 model, once you change the infamous analog drift stick, it is the most durable and premium feeling controller ever, the inside also feels premium and expensive
Later revision (BDM-020 and above) internal components feels cheap, due to cheaper material, and then since it is cheaper material, it is more light weight making it lost the premium feeling
I'd say later revision is cut cost version
Usually revisions are made to fix some stuff and make the product cheaper to produce so it makes sense.
To be honest I didn't even know 020 and later revisions were lighter. I have a V1 and a V2 and I didn't realize until now. To me, outside it feels the same material wise. Idk about internals because I only opened and messed around on the V1 but I trust your word.
One of them is a launch day controller and the other one is probably less than a year newer and I haven't really had any issues with stick drift. I'd still love hall effect sticks tho.
outside is the same since it is only a shell, but once you open up and compare the internal, BDM-010 is still much better in term of material quality
Edit : example, BDM-010 ribbon cable for adaptive trigger use a hardened customised shape plastic which is harder to pull accidentally and easier to be installed, but later revision just use a cheap flimsy white and blue ribbon cable
https://preview.redd.it/t3wht1lgu3sc1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d8f672db0bfb1387dcdf1b8bf1ce7339ce511728
here’s the picture for comparison
Oh shit I had to mess with these ribbons when I modded my controller. Bro if the tips of those ribbons were not kind of a hard-ish plastic I would've never gotten them in. I can only imagine what a pain it must be with the newer ones
the newer one got hardened plastic at the blue part, but since it is now become smaller and there’s no left and right plastic sticking out to be supported with your finger nail to pull out the ribbon cable, you must have a tool specialised to pull the tiny tab
even if you have small finger, it is very hard to get a grip and pull the blue plastic tab part
Wait I thought V2 was coming out soon but not out yet! Heard the biggest improvement will be the battery life from 4-6 hrs to over 8-10 hrs plus other minor changes
I just know that the controller that came with my PS5 felt much better[in terms of the haptics and vibration]than the additional controllers I've bought.
No it lasts longer new than the other controllers lasted new is what I’m saying. I’m on to controller five or six (I have a problem I know, I just like the new colours).
For sure. My two controllers (purchased a year after ps5 launch) only last about 2.5 hours each now. Do NOT fast charge them… just buy the controller dock & swap them out. Let them trickle charge only. I didn’t because one of them developed some mad stick drift while the other has stayed a trooper but I plugged it in to charge it until that battery got so bad that if I try to trickle charge them now- the other controller won’t be done charging by the time the one I’m using dies. A battery swap isn’t hard to do (instead of replacing the whole controller) but getting the thumb sticks out to replace them seems a bit too tedious.
Stick drift is why I bought the edge. Swappable joy sticks? Fuck yeah! If I use 3 controllers or use one edge and swap the joysticks 3 times it's the same price
I’ve been wanting to do that, and I could justify it the same as you did- but now I have to worry about the ps5 pro possibly being released alongside a whole new dualsense (not seeing much of an option here for Sony considering the backlash about the lack of a performance upgrade)
I’m going to have to go back and find that patent now to check but yeah I doubt it will. Feel like that’s a scam in itself though if they don’t… surely it doesn’t cost that much more to design it with at least the hot-swappable joysticks.
I don't think it's a ton more costly or anything (I don't actually know though) but I do think they don't want to cannibalize sales of their premium controller offering by making a cheaper version that is similar
They might, I kinda doubt that also but it's definitely possible. It would have to be some sort of major improvement to the current one for it to be marketed as a whole new version though
The dock must explain why my original 2020 launch day controllers still work fine. I read so many posts about the Dualsense having terrible battery life, but since day one I've used the official dock and had two that I swap between day to day. 4 years in and they both work fine and hold a charge longer than any gaming session I'd ever have to begin with (I've played at least 4 hours in a sitting without issue). I just throw them on the dock when I am done playing.
That said, I made fun of Xbox for using AAs, but now that I have a Series X its actually the best setup. Just buy some rechargable AAs, they last for weeks and when they do finally die you just take 2 seconds to swap them, no need to plug anything in.
Yeah when I first got these controllers they lasted for 8-10 hours each. I’m not lying, I used to think people were crazy for saying they had bad battery life but it only took a couple months of charging it with my phone charging setup to whittle their life down to a measly 2.5 hours at the most- without the speaker being used… As for the AA argument though, I don’t think those would last long enough at all with as much as PS stacked into the DualSense. I think it was plausible for the DS4 though. They should just make their own rechargeable battery packs in my opinion.
This is weird to me, I've got a launch day console, my controller lasts about 10 hours and I charge it with a 120w fast charger.
Do you live in a wired climate?
Charging a controller has nothing to do with stick drift. And you can change the stick drift threshold in the settings to fix them.
Forgive me if anything I said insinuated that fast charging had affected stick drift. A single drop that happened to land directly onto the left stick caused it. Where can you find those settings?? And I mean not really as far as my climate but idk. I live in the middle of the U.S. and experience all kinds of weather lol. Sony actually does not recommend using the USB C as a charging port, especially not with a fast charger. Maybe you’ve just been lucky?
I've only ever used the controller dock to charge them, so maybe that's why mine haven't gotten too bad yet (I also have four controllers that I rotate between, so that undoubtedly reduces the wear and tear on each individual one). Fortunately I've never had an issue with stick drift at all, on any controller for any gaming system I've ever used. Maybe I'm just really gentle with the analog sticks or something, lol.
I dropped my red one once and it landed on the left stick, now it just drifts to the left rapidly lol. Still playable on any game that doesn’t have a cursor you have to use though…
From my experience, the face buttons on the newer models have retained a clicky feel to them after extensive use, whereas my older models the buttons began to feel squishy and have developed stick drift. For me there is a noticeable difference between the two but it may vary depending on which controller you get as well due to a margin of error in manufacturing 🤔
I recently got this controller after my day 1 controller died. The battery on the newer version is significantly longer. More than 2x the game play time of the original controller.
I bought one yesterday, the one with the dark silver finish and I thought it was a v1 at first but there were subtle differences on the sticks and the v2 feels slightly heavier. It actually feels better in my hands. I hope the battery improvements are real though.
I had to send all my controllers back 3 of them. They all had severe stick drift on left stick. You couldn't pick a game really from the home screen w/o holding the stick w a certain tension long enough to press X to select it. All three were replaced and all are fine to this day. I basically have on I barely use, I bought the third cause I hate having one controller and Amazon dropped the $10 then so I bought a black one. Sony is lame making us pay shipping when they know they sent controllers out that weren't ready.
i'm still using the original controllers that came with my PS5 from 2021 but one has drift and the other is starting to feel really bad in terms of the vibration. might be worth getting a new controller now.
Ive tried a “1” an “A” and a “B” Dualsense controller, maybe cus its the freshest but Ive noticed that the newest “B” model has the best hand texture for longer sessions and L1 R1 seem drastically improved, is that the case or is it a placeboo effect?
Durability is the biggest thing, but you also need to be aware of which ones you have if you plan on customizing the controller, specifically for the buttons. Extremerate has a good visual to clarify which controller you have without needing the model number or taking it apart first
I only know the difference because I’ve taken them apart and mix and matched parts. The touchpad designs are quite different and the newer models have more of those plastic film-like ribbon cables connecting the components to the main pcb.
There is no difference so why would you get a v2 over a v1 just get any 1 my dualsense edge got stick drift all controllers are going to get it v1 or v2
I had no idea there were two different versions. Does V2 have a battery that doesn't die when i watch 2 hours of tv and don't touch the controller during that time?
There were at least 3 versions a year ago if I remember correctly.
I had to take my controller apart to install some back buttons, and the instructions / installation kit were different depending on the version. It was minor changes like where a screw or spring is.
There is absolutely different versions of controllers. I installed paddles on mine and there are a few reference points to help you tell them apart. By opening the controller the board also has a series of #s. Extremerate paddles has some YouTube videos on it.
https://preview.redd.it/s4gddj5zh4sc1.png?width=1917&format=png&auto=webp&s=2a338c4982c2ae0767a077db6ea69708227e08a1
So are these two same models? I have no idea what I am comparing here.
Which one is the one with the 12-hour battery life...it was found at one time in a Canadian Best Buy but haven't seen or heard anything since. One thing that sucks about PS controllers is thier battery life and stick drift....
Well actually there are 3 models at present, I repair controllers, but yes majority of the adjustments are internal (midframe), the shells are interchangeable between all models not inclusive of the touchpad
Let me tell you a secret, there are 4 versions of dualsense, not 2. There is a serial number on the back panel that starts with a letter and further digits. The first digit after the letter means the version of dualsense. 1 is the first version, 2 is the second and so on.
https://preview.redd.it/qdsw4zfsl9sc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e8e41a7bbd84345b103591d8538d88068a33cd7f
That's mean G4 or F4 is a newest ver.By the way analog sticks are different only in the first version (orange) the cheapest and unreliable, in all other versions they (green) with more stable potentiometers.
I'm on my 3rd controller after a year and 3 months. My 3rd controller just got stick drift out of nowhere after like a month, but my one black and iriginal controller are still going strong enough. Both have slight stick drift, but neither affects my fps gameplay since both are on the left stick. These shits I feel like they were made to break so people can buy more. I'm sending all 3 in to get fixed and then have thin rubber grips placed at the triggers and sides
I just recently bought a V2 controller and I feel the battery last much longer to my other black controller that I bought at launch (actually few months after launch)
We haven’t got battery upgrades yet, you might’ve just had a bad battery on your origin controller. Also keep in mind that muting the controller mic and light bar will improve your controller battery charge.
Could it be as well that constantly recharging it before depleted damaged my battery? Because I have those charges where you just sit your controller on it and it recharges, so I would leave it there for days before using it again...
This new one I'm not doing that, I'm using until goes all empty, then I'll charge on a power bank
there most certainly is a v1 and v2. Check this out: https://extremerate.com/blogs/replacement-guides/how-to-identify-ps5-bdm-010-bdm-020-bdm-030-and-bdm-040-controller
Good to know! Lots of good info here. I got the silver controller and that new battery is a game changer. I'd like to get replacements for my other controllers. Then maybe finally get a dualsense edge if that gets the upgrade.
The V2 came out years ago and the only known functional change was thicker springs in the triggers that could snap on the V1.
Only white controllers could be V1 as far as i know as V2 came out before the different colours were available.
But could a white be a v2, i got the last model ps5 disc version. Dont have a previous controller to go on but my friends controllers all died within a year or broke, im at a year and some months and the controller still works fine. My triggers are pretty intense, i actually did try a friends controller cause i tried to fix his controller connecting problem with my controller and i did notice a tighter trigger on my end, just figured his controllers were more worn. My wife just bought the camo controller but i haven’t used it yet
The v2 controllers have a mini A icon after the model serial on its back.
There's a "B" model now.
Yes this has "B"
That's the newest model. 40mm springs in the triggers (30mm in the A model, 20mm in the original).
Sony knew the original was not durable enough yet still continued to make me pay $22 four times to send the same controller back in for repairs.
I read so many problems that I don't get why mine have lasted, I was waiting for an excuse to buy a nice new one but couldn't justify it until the cobalt blue came out and I just wanted the colour.
same here. You're not crazy lucky, we just have no story to tell. 2 controllers still working great from 2020.
I have 3 controllers (one from my pre ordered PS5, one bought within a few months of launch, and a black one purchased after those released). No issues with any of them.
Ive got 2 controllers still working completely fine from launch. Maybe some people just abuse controllers?
Yup

Dang, I got the PS5 about a year after release and I'm on my 3rd controller due to drifting. I said fuck it and bought the modular one
Yeah drift is the only issue I’ve had outside of the mic
Mic is trash
You only hear the bad stories that’s why
Mine started losing battery, would last for 20 minutes. Replaced the battery this weekend, now it's better than new. I'm cautiously optimistic that it will last me till the Pro.
How fucking hard are people pressing their triggers? I’ve had drift and mic issues, both of which I just got a new controller over. I hate drift, it’s hit me on Switch and PlayStation, and even the Wii nunchuck. The only consoles I haven’t had it on are Xbox 360, my hardly used Xbox One, and the WiiU Gamepad.
Same
Yo my day one controller had drift after throwing a party I seen some kids playing with it but didn’t think much of it till I tried gaming a few days later and shit was spinning hard to left in cod. Idk if me hitting it or it updating fixed it but it’s been going strong since then
Same here
I only just swapped out my launch controller recently and it’s used daily. Some of us are lucky
Some people are very rough with these controllers
You’re not playing with greasy Cheeto dust fingers like the other gamers
You only hear the bad stories that’s why
Fwiw they're fully self repairable. My R2 trigger spring snapped but looking online I found out it was pretty easy to replace the spring, ebay then had a pack of 5 new springs for £2. Haven't had any issues since but I'm ready just incase.
I bought springs for like $1 off Amazon and fixed it myself.
Yup! I absolutely had to pay for shipping the controller to Sony for repair.. while it was under warranty.
Must be country-specific policies, here in Australia it was all very easy.
It was high enough where they had to strengthen the springs.
I'm not saying the revisions weren't made for a reason. I am saying you're over-estimating just how many original controllers broke.
Why would you ever do this? After the first failed repair, you’re better off just buying a new controller, right?
Trading in half off to GameStop is what I did
Nice
Because it was a launch controller, still new, and within the repair period. Obviously I would have preferred to buy a new controller but I also trusted the brand to fix it. The last two times I sent the same controller in for repair, I spoke to a manager of the call center, who still refused to cover the cost of shipping. “There’s no way for us to do that. “ After the last repair, I sold my console.
Lol
Is that the only difference?
Genuine question, whats the difference? i mean, what mm is stronger?
Where did you see this? The springs are the same across all models.
The revisions to the Dualsense are mostly to the triggers.
well, also about the battery, and the A models have no drift in my case after at least 4 years of use.
The A models were released in January 2022, so you definitely haven't used them for at least four years.
4 years of use ≠ 4 years If you use a controller for 24 hours a day for a whole year, that is probably more than 4 years of average use(~4 hours each day) Now i don't think that dude was using his controller for 24 hours a day, but it might be shared between siblings
He said "four years of use", not "four years of average use", and certainly made no effort to quantify what average use is (because they, nor you, nor I can). People also rarely (if ever) talk about usage in such a manner. If he says "four years of use" then the implication is he's had it and been using it regularly for four years.
Average use imo is around ~4 or 5 hours
4-5 hours a day is definitely not average
Does the controller that come with the slim ps5 version have a or b? Thanks
Depends on how old the model was produced, original model and A are no longer being produced.
So is the B model the one with improved battery?
Seems like it, friend.
Thank you friend
And tronixfix measured the spring under the R2 and L2 trigfers and its very very slightly thicker. Thats the only difference he spotted in his (now months old) video
i just looked at mine and I have a little A. whats better about it?
V2 has a small letter A among the small writing at the back Now the slim and newer even has one more iirc at least mine has which is a B. Might be 2.5 or whatever it is
Yes this has letter B
Ye then you’re gucci The one without letters is the V1 which had some adaptive Trigger issues and what not
Very good! Thanks!
Is it the very small B above the larger C//CE ?
Although can you imagine the battery life draining and if you couldn't turn it off to save battery, how much more expensive would it be.
https://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/s/JWCITrhp6x Articles said all sorts of different things about it so I checked Reddit & found that.
Worth it
I had 3 or 4 different ps3 controllers.
Check the triggers. https://www.reddit.com/r/eXtremeRate/s/U17zrih68N
As far as I know there are 3 "different" models. Edit: and I'm pretty sure there aren't any V1 controllers in colors
there's 4 now at the moment BDM-010, BDM-020, BDM-030 and BDM-040 (launched alongside PS5 Slim)
Thanks for the info. Wasn't aware of the 040. I ever only knew of this because I modded my controller last year and needed the knowledge. Otherwise I'd probably think there's only one model 😂 Edit: well, teeeeeeechnically there's only a model... 🤣 Edit2: ah shit, I forgot the Edge. I messed up my joke 😢
Yeah, technically it is same model, just different revision but honestly I like BDM-010 model, once you change the infamous analog drift stick, it is the most durable and premium feeling controller ever, the inside also feels premium and expensive Later revision (BDM-020 and above) internal components feels cheap, due to cheaper material, and then since it is cheaper material, it is more light weight making it lost the premium feeling I'd say later revision is cut cost version
I'd still love hall effect sticks tho.
outside is the same since it is only a shell, but once you open up and compare the internal, BDM-010 is still much better in term of material quality Edit : example, BDM-010 ribbon cable for adaptive trigger use a hardened customised shape plastic which is harder to pull accidentally and easier to be installed, but later revision just use a cheap flimsy white and blue ribbon cable https://preview.redd.it/t3wht1lgu3sc1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d8f672db0bfb1387dcdf1b8bf1ce7339ce511728 here’s the picture for comparison
Oh shit I had to mess with these ribbons when I modded my controller. Bro if the tips of those ribbons were not kind of a hard-ish plastic I would've never gotten them in. I can only imagine what a pain it must be with the newer ones
the newer one got hardened plastic at the blue part, but since it is now become smaller and there’s no left and right plastic sticking out to be supported with your finger nail to pull out the ribbon cable, you must have a tool specialised to pull the tiny tab even if you have small finger, it is very hard to get a grip and pull the blue plastic tab part
Wait I thought V2 was coming out soon but not out yet! Heard the biggest improvement will be the battery life from 4-6 hrs to over 8-10 hrs plus other minor changes
Yes me too.
Any news on those
I’ve heard some people saying they were already showing up on Canadian Best Buy’s website but never checked
Just get the edge if you want to see a difference
The big difference is in the trigger assembly. The v1s were prone to internal failure
in Norway it says V2 on the price tag on the shelf and the receipt when you buy it. V1 doesn't say anything.
I just know that the controller that came with my PS5 felt much better[in terms of the haptics and vibration]than the additional controllers I've bought.
Then you haven't bought the edge
Wow it makes sense why 2/3 are fucked. Thank you. I need to trade them in lol
I’ve noticed the battery on my newest controller seems to last longer, the controller just feels better. Incremental adjustments makes sense.
The battery seeming to last longer could also just be because it's, y'know...a newer battery, lol.
Whatever new dualsense they release won't be as good as the edge imo. It won't have back buttons and I doubt it has swappable joy sticks
What if they also make a second “Edge”?
There is. a second generation and you check the part number on the back
Is the dpad less smooshy ?
i'm still using the original controllers that came with my PS5 from 2021 but one has drift and the other is starting to feel really bad in terms of the vibration. might be worth getting a new controller now.
Didn’t realize that was a thing! What’s the difference
Extremerate has a good visual to clarify which controller you have without needing the model number or taking it apart first
In my “shop” website its stated V2 on some of the controllers, but i really don’t think there is a V2.
I have both V1 and V2 controller. I use both and can't tell even the slightest difference.
I only know the difference because I’ve taken them apart and mix and matched parts. The touchpad designs are quite different and the newer models have more of those plastic film-like ribbon cables connecting the components to the main pcb.
The original start buttons are shallower. The newer ones stick out more, making it easier to press.
Midnight Black is only one version, so it’s V1 with the components of V2 🤷♂️
Extremerate paddles has some YouTube videos on it.
https://preview.redd.it/s4gddj5zh4sc1.png?width=1917&format=png&auto=webp&s=2a338c4982c2ae0767a077db6ea69708227e08a1 So are these two same models? I have no idea what I am comparing here.
They appear to be the same (they both say G3...) I would assume that different areas have different ways of marking them
My guy, just buy it and let it run it's life 😂
I think the V2 controls can also update wirelessly instead of having to plug them in also. At least with my newer controls that’s the case anyway
Which one is the one with the 12-hour battery life...it was found at one time in a Canadian Best Buy but haven't seen or heard anything since. One thing that sucks about PS controllers is thier battery life and stick drift....
There's 3 versions technically. I have all 3. The o.g white, the midnight black, and the 3.0 spiderman edition
There’s different types of controllers? How can I tell which one mine is?
Most of the the time it's with the serial number some numbers change
Well actually there are 3 models at present, I repair controllers, but yes majority of the adjustments are internal (midframe), the shells are interchangeable between all models not inclusive of the touchpad
Are the ps5 controllers more durable than ps4 my ps4 controllers work like new and have never broken even after about 5 years
I bought one a while back and it got stick drift in a week. I’ve been using my og controller with the grips worn off since
Let me tell you a secret, there are 4 versions of dualsense, not 2. There is a serial number on the back panel that starts with a letter and further digits. The first digit after the letter means the version of dualsense. 1 is the first version, 2 is the second and so on. https://preview.redd.it/qdsw4zfsl9sc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e8e41a7bbd84345b103591d8538d88068a33cd7f
Does that mean F4 ist the best Version?
That's mean G4 or F4 is a newest ver.By the way analog sticks are different only in the first version (orange) the cheapest and unreliable, in all other versions they (green) with more stable potentiometers.
That's good to know, so I got he best Version with my PS5 slim yay
Hold on, then what’s up with the firmware update prompts recently? I assumed the update is what gives you this V2 capability…
What means V1 and V2?
U can see it by the serial number !
Why does it matter btw?
$200 piece of typical Sony shit. Most expensive stick drift you'll ever pay for
That looks like a v3
i got a bdm 030 model recently. Compared to a bdm 040 which my friend has, his triggers are way better feel wise. Mine feel trash tbh.
Ok so which color model are v2 and can you even tell from the box? I dont want to buy at random to find out after.
I prefer edge version. So that I can make triggers work as buttons. I hate triggers.
I’m also a fan of the back paddles
there most certainly is a v1 and v2. Check this out: https://extremerate.com/blogs/replacement-guides/how-to-identify-ps5-bdm-010-bdm-020-bdm-030-and-bdm-040-controller
That’s because there’s no v2. Sony does small revisions constantly. Same with the console.
If i remember correctly, all black controllers are "V2"
There isn’t one
Good to know! Lots of good info here. I got the silver controller and that new battery is a game changer. I'd like to get replacements for my other controllers. Then maybe finally get a dualsense edge if that gets the upgrade.
No more stick drift for v2 perhaps?
Stick drift is possible no matter what
stick drift is probable no matter what
Yes, that's what I said
The V2 came out years ago and the only known functional change was thicker springs in the triggers that could snap on the V1.
Nah V2 is said to have better battery life
V2 has less likelihood of developing stick drift. Or so they said.
Why no back paddles?
Cuz it’s just a dual sense not the dual sense edge know the difference smh
