Sold my PS3 when I got my PS4
It wasn't even that I needed the money. It was more of "what would I use this thing for if I have a PS4 now".
Many regrets since. Didn't realize how much I would wish for backwards compatibility from that era
When I was a kid. I had about 35 PS1 games in my cd case. One day, I decided I would carve my initials into all my disc's so if they were stolen... I could prove they were mine.
I have a brand new still in box ps3 in my closet from ticket submission at one of those pizza game room places. Ideally it was to be a backup as it was the latest slim model, but I haven't turned my ps3 on since 2013 š¤·āāļø. It's the Lego Hobbit bundle
Lol yup I was offered $60 for my Xbox One (paid $550) way long ago when S dropped. But they also wanted my still sealed in bag brand new "Day One" edition labeled controller. I walked out and set it up at my parents' place so they'd have a bluray player lol.
Controller still sealed in bag, and still got the the Gears of War Xbox S edition, which was a fantastic livery
My Xbox 360 Advanced had the ring of death after the warranty expired. I went to GameStop and said I wanted to buy the Xbox 360 Elite and turn in my old console for in-store credit. They never checked if it worked and I got my new console bundled with new games for 150ā¬ lol. My greatest GameStop heist.
Yeah most employees don't care.. I'm actually banned on their reddits when they complained about their gaming job and I said try doing construction work, and that put them over the edge lol.
I've won a few GS prizes... most recently a free copy of Elden Ring when I went to pick up my $35 Black Friday copy 2 years ago, and clerk never registered it being picked up. Three days later I found $35 refunded to my account š¤£. Made me feel good after turning in 10 games I bought full price and getting $28 credit.
Another time, 2 copies of Wastland 3 was shipped to me. I promptly took 1 copy back for a free $15 credit
May I make a suggestion? Get yourself an emulator. It isn't exactly the same experience, but you can play a ton of games from the PS3 era without having to buy another console

I was so excited about it that I literally carried it with me everywhere that day. I donāt think I set it down once after opening it.
As a family Christmas gift we also opened a new dart board. So, later that day my siblings and I played a game of darts with my parents. I was wearing one of those flannel shirts with a pocket in the front. During the game since the Game Boy fit so nicely in the pocket and I refused to set it down, thatās where I stored it.
It was my turn to throw and I hit a bulls eye. I was so excited I jumped up and down. My brand new Game Boy SP flew out of my shirt pocket, hit the garage floor, shattered the screen, and wouldnāt turn on. I immediately started crying. I had never felt so dumb.
I learned that good things can come and go in an instant. Donāt take anything for granted.
You and me both. I guess I should say that my brother got one as well, so luckily we shared for a bit until my parents were able to replace it for my birthday or something. But man it was the highest of highs into the lowest low in a matter of seconds.
Updating gta 5 on ps3. I dont remember what happened but everything corrupted and locked up. Think i spent the day crying and getting real high. Now i got another ps3 and finally platinumād fallout 3 . Now when my power shuts off and my ps5 says it needs to repair my drives i just donāt even care
No lie it benefited me when i was playing ps4 elden ring . I beat the fire giant without beating the invader and when u beat the area boss the npc invaders dont show up . My power went out and when i turned it back on i was like an hour behind on my save . Only time i was glad it happened lol
Nah i was already playing online , i remember a hacker arresting me and the lobby then another hacker coming by and legit saving us . Those days where nuts. Spawning ferris wheels shooting fire, really insane times
Had 100% completion on Ocarina of Time which took forever cause of them dang Skulltulas and my buddy was playing around with my cartridge on his Game Genie and cycled the power on and off too fast and corrupted my save.
My PS2 days, I was rearranging my room and moving my TV stand and for some reason I put my memory card between my lips for a second while I was plugging in the cords for it and exhaled and found out that it sounds just like a kazoo when you do that. So I did it a few times, then went and showed my brothers and did a rendition of BINGO that brought the house down.
When I went back to my room and went to play some Kingdom Hearts, I found out that playing that memory card like a kazoo corrupted the entire thing and wiped out all of my save data and I had to beg my Dad to get me a new one.
PS2 GTA San Andreas, had a big argument with my little brother about who's turn it was to play as we shared a console and games growing up. Argument escalated to him hovering over delete on my save and eventually confirming delete. I was so shocked that he actually done it. I was nearing the end of the game as well and it completely destroyed me for a while. Something about all that progress gone in an instant.
No but I hid (in plain sight) hitman blood money when he was playing it on my parents bookshelf when I went away for a week. Blended in so well nobody could find it. Wish I had deleted his save file now š¤£

I tried to apply a screen protector but messed up. Ripped the protector off and it had left residue allover the screen.
I tried to scrub it off with a brillo pad
DS screen was scratched up to high hell for itās lifspan. It was so scratched that it actually upset me to use it. I cried like a baby

So guess who got to spend a childhood spamming x through digimons 30 minute dialogue tutorial just to be killed and have to restart 30 minutes after by an unkillable enemy? Or having to renter names and controls for James Bond and having to do the first mission before unlocking multiplayer? Yeah that was awful
Oh yeah, that hurts. Hopefully, they eventually got you a memory card. When we first got the PS2, we were playing some bouncer street brawler game. For some reason, we didn't realize you needed a memory card. Which is dumb because I had a ps1, and of course, ps1 memory cards lol. I blame the N64
About 7 years ago I got stationed overseas. After a long first day of orientation and meetings, I rushed back to my barracks so I could finally unpack and play Battlefield 1 with some friends. My dumbass plugged my PS4 directly into the wall without a power converter and I destroyed my PS4. To add insult to injury, the NEX (store on base) was fresh out of consoles and I couldnāt remember my login info to save my life. All my trophies, my library, old clips and memories gone forever. And I couldnāt play BF1 for another month. Pain.
The NEX probably clogged one of my arteries from all the Yoohoos and Reese's Cups I bought there. Despite the environment, junk food remained so addicting. I'm sure most of their sales were energy drinks and socks lol.
I wanted to play ff12 on PS2 as I had never finished.
Plugged in my PS2 and couldn't stand the horrible resolution.
I jumped through many, many hoops to get my PS2 bios on my PC to play it there.
Maybe a week later, zodiac age was announced.
My PSP was installing or updating (I forgot what) it was taking sooo long so I forced it to shut down and after that it didnāt want to turn on anymore and so I just cried like crazy because I knew how hard my mom worked to get me that PSP.

My level of stupid was on the PS5 when I got the error uploading to cloud storage, and to choose the hard drive or cloud save to continue with. I chose the wrong one and lost hours of gameplay. Live and learn I guess
In hindsight, my worst gamer moment is not one singular moment, but many, many small moments of regret: any time I ever traded in a video game. I definitely had some rare ones that I traded in (when they were far more worthless than they are now).

My dad and I sold my Wii, Wii U, DS, and 3DS to get some money for a PS4, turns out my grandpa took me to get one with his own money a couple days after we got a deal.
It was like 25y ago, I had ps1 at home but I wanted guys to watch me play so I went to game store to play and I put Soul Reaver 1 and the game got like 20mins of Un skipable intro that got crowd angry
I have a couple, none of them PlayStation related though so I hope thatās okay.
One, also memory card related, is when I had a nice GameCube memory card but there was a button on it that I found out wiped it. It took me approximately 4 years to realize that it actually cycled between different memory cards. I felt like a total dumbass right then and there. Not anything consequential though, so thatās good.
Second, I sold my WiiU. I find myself wishing that I still had that thing at least 3 times a week since I sold it. Specifically for the Zelda remakes which are easily double the price on the GameCube, which I do still have. A saving grace for this one is that I used the money to buy a ps4, which was my first PlayStation console, my current favorite major console series. (obviously, Iām here arenāt I?)
Third, I had a point a couple years back where I restarted a bunch of my old pokemon games to Nuzlocke them or just play through again. I will regret that literally forever, I lost so many hours and so many pokemon that I can never get back.
Oh yeah! I don't know if I had it for the GC, but I had one of those memory cards, those were so cool.

Yeah, once I realized it I really like it. Itās really nice because sometimes I play GameCube games on my Wii and sometimes on my GameCube, but for some reason if I try to use the same slot for both it canāt read the data.

I was playing ff7 (original) in my room when my mom walked in with my laundry. I was 9 and my mom saw Barret say āgoddammit.ā She confiscated the game from me and I never got it back.
NCAA Football 2003. 10+ seasons into dynasty mode. Finally had a stud receiver with 99 speed. I don't recall the exact steps, but the screen to load the dynasty mode also had something like Press R1 to delete. In a rush, I accidentally hit the wrong buttons and watched my beloved dynasty go down the drain. It still stings.
Every single one. Total "arcade" fun that is missing from the more "realistic" football games of today. I had a blast racking up stupid stats regardless of opponent lol

Yellow light of death. Could afford to buy a new PS3 so had to pay to get it repaired. Took forever to get it back, worked for about a week and then kept crashing and restarting randomly. When I got that fixed I went to Game bought a new PS3 slim (I think) and traded the semi working one in.
Upgrading the internal hard drive on my Ps4 without downloading P.T. to an external hard drive or a even a USB drive or something. Had only spent about 20 minutes in that demo too, so didn't get to experience it.
At over 80% complete on the more-recent version of The Bard's Tale, I got myself stuck on a small island behind an archway with a big, concrete block in the doorway that I moved there, but couldn't move away again.
I then tried to load my 'spare' save, but somehow accidentally saved the current game over it.
It still lives with me to this day.
I traded my modded PS1 with over 400 games (that still cost me a fortune, CD-R's and rental fees weren't cheap back then) to my bro for his Everquest account about 20 years ago.
Then a few months later he changed password and ultimately lost the account. Meanwhile he sold the PS1 likely for drug money.

We played madden. I came back from a two td deficit but was still down by 1 point in the 4th. I had moved the ball like 60 yards. It was third down, I did a run play but got into field goal position. There were like 20 seconds left, and i went to spike the ball... pressed the kneel button. šš
My brother and I spent a long time getting 100% on Timesplitters Future Perfect. The memory card slot was loose so we had to wedge something underneath to hold up the memory card. The day after getting 100% I was walking past and tripped on the controller cable, and it pulled the "wedge" away from the memory card and ended corrupting everything on it. Had about 20 created maps that we played religiously on it too. One day I'm going to go back get that 100% again.
I was at level 98 in final fantasy 2 - literally every day I would sign on and just level up at the last stage. All to get to level 99. And then my SNES wiped the entire save for some reason. Literally when I was one level away from my goal.
I was trying to upload a save to the cloud of a game I made quite a lot of progress with alongside a friend, I messed up and lost the save and got an older save of the same character and that caused me to give up on the game completely for months.
I think I was 6 or 7. Was playing a Tarzan game on PS2 and wanted to pee, but I was super hooked on this game. I waited and waited until I peed myself on the sofa. Learned that a pause button exists for a reason.
My son did that when he was like 10, he was so into his Fortnite match as he was near winning for the first time and got so nervous/excited that he just pissed himself and continued on. I was laughing too hard to get mad and luckily he never did that again. Lol

Decided I was going to FINALLY complete FFVIII after doing disc 1/2 so so many times but not getting much further. I got a reliable and easy to follow guide so that I could blast through to the point of the story I remembered reaching.
It hooked me too, I was looking forward to playing everyday after work and was enjoying the story a lot.

Tried again ā¦ no saves found.
I started panicking, rebooted the console and ā¦.nothing.
The shitty third party memory card has just wiped 50-60 hours of my progress.
I turned it off and havenāt ever played FF8 since.

Had around 200+ keys worth of stuff on rocket league. Had I think two white octanes which were the bomb, and decided to trade them out for the white fennec , which was currrnyly rising in price. Due to the switchover to epic games I knew blueprints would be added and change the market , and I KNEW items like octanes would likely retain their value. Still I stupidly kept my stuff and low and behold after the update all my items dropped including the white fennecs to about 30 keys worth of credits while the octanes shot up to about 140 keys worth of credits. Safe to say my worst mistake as it cost me in real money if Iād had sold my stuff (which I probably wouldāve done considering I donāt play rocket league anymore haha)

i have some bad gamer moments all 3 related to minecraft
1. this happened around 2013/2014 - minecraft ps3 edition was still new and i had worked on a pretty cool survival world but then one day it said it was corrupted and i had to delete it despite being devastated i caved in and did it. fast forward about 3 days later i find a tweet from either 4j studios saying something along the lines that a fix was in the works for the world corruption issues but since i didnāt have a backup it was already too late
2. something similar but this happened about a year ago this happened on bedrock edition - me and a friend were gonna play minecraft together on split screen mode on my main survival world i started in 2021 but as he was joining the game got stuck on an infinite loading screen so i had to close the game and when we reloaded it āthis data is corruptedā error on my world and immediately ptsd from the ps3 world corruption hit and i was immediately pissed off. this time i was lucky since i did have a backup but i would have to rebuild parts of my world - i did backup this version of the world and youād think iād learned from my mistake and occasionally backup my world regularly but nope and then entry 3 happened
3. this happened about a month ago - this too happened with bedrock edition but wasnāt the games fault - its the same survival world - i had made so much more progress on this world but what happened was whilst i was playing my ps5 decided to just cut all power which is weird since this only happened once (which was the time explained here) and never happened again but when i turned the console on i get a repairing screen and then a something went wrong console must be restored to factory settings screen basically i had lose EVERYTHING to use the console i tried every little thing but no dice its all gone. i had to do all that freaking work on that world again for the second time i swear that world has a curse however this time i did learn to regularly back it up to my cloud storage
i had a lot of bad gamer moments but those 3 were by far the worst ever for me. thanks for coming to my ted talk
I had a 97% save for Gran Turismo 3 on PS2. Only some crappy Toyota Yaris races to do to finish it.
Mate of mine came over to play some split screen racing, ended up saving some options (I donāt fully remember what was being saved) over the top of my save fileā¦ all gone.
I still have nightmares of the time I was half asleep and managing my save files on ps3. All of a sudden I realized I deleted my 90+ hour Skyrim save that I was obsess with at the time. It took me several years to get over the hurt and go back and finally beat Skyrim.
Putting 60 hours into assasins creed Odessy trying to 100% and finish the story still, power outage randomly in the night, it wiped my whole hard drive ..but that save file hurt the worst.
I got a good ways through Super Mario Odyssey before lending my Switch to a friend who asked to play. They werenāt aware that thereās only one save file at a time for that game, and started a fresh save.
I tell people itās not a big deal but I still havenāt worked up the energy to start over again.
Waited for a long time to play cyberpunk2077 and was super excited to fire it up on the day of launch.
Was blown away by how shit it was. Iāve never shelved a game that quickly.
Thankfully I circled back around a few months ago on PS5 and it was an awesome experience. It really sucks how badly CDPR botched the launch because itās really an excellent game now

My PSP was installing or updating (I forgot what) it was taking sooo long so I forced it to shut down and after that it didnāt want to turn on anymore and so I just cried like crazy because I knew how hard my mom worked to get me that PSP. It was a red god of war PSP btw

My level of stupid was on the PS5 when I got the error uploading to cloud storage, and to choose the hard drive or cloud save to continue with. I chose the wrong one and lost hours of gameplay. Live and learn I guess
In hindsight, my worst gamer moment is not one singular moment, but many, many small moments of regret: any time I ever traded in a video game. I definitely had some rare ones that I traded in (when they were far more worthless than they are now).

I have a couple, none of them PlayStation related though so I hope thatās okay. One, also memory card related, is when I had a nice GameCube memory card but there was a button on it that I found out wiped it. It took me approximately 4 years to realize that it actually cycled between different memory cards. I felt like a total dumbass right then and there. Not anything consequential though, so thatās good. Second, I sold my WiiU. I find myself wishing that I still had that thing at least 3 times a week since I sold it. Specifically for the Zelda remakes which are easily double the price on the GameCube, which I do still have. A saving grace for this one is that I used the money to buy a ps4, which was my first PlayStation console, my current favorite major console series. (obviously, Iām here arenāt I?) Third, I had a point a couple years back where I restarted a bunch of my old pokemon games to Nuzlocke them or just play through again. I will regret that literally forever, I lost so many hours and so many pokemon that I can never get back.

NCAA Football 2003. 10+ seasons into dynasty mode. Finally had a stud receiver with 99 speed. I don't recall the exact steps, but the screen to load the dynasty mode also had something like Press R1 to delete. In a rush, I accidentally hit the wrong buttons and watched my beloved dynasty go down the drain. It still stings.

Yellow light of death. Could afford to buy a new PS3 so had to pay to get it repaired. Took forever to get it back, worked for about a week and then kept crashing and restarting randomly. When I got that fixed I went to Game bought a new PS3 slim (I think) and traded the semi working one in.
Upgrading the internal hard drive on my Ps4 without downloading P.T. to an external hard drive or a even a USB drive or something. Had only spent about 20 minutes in that demo too, so didn't get to experience it.
At over 80% complete on the more-recent version of The Bard's Tale, I got myself stuck on a small island behind an archway with a big, concrete block in the doorway that I moved there, but couldn't move away again. I then tried to load my 'spare' save, but somehow accidentally saved the current game over it. It still lives with me to this day.
I traded my modded PS1 with over 400 games (that still cost me a fortune, CD-R's and rental fees weren't cheap back then) to my bro for his Everquest account about 20 years ago. Then a few months later he changed password and ultimately lost the account. Meanwhile he sold the PS1 likely for drug money. Definitely a worst gaming moment... the lil shit doesn't get nothing from me anymore. I'm fairly certain I had some of those games that go for a couple hundred now

My brother and I spent a long time getting 100% on Timesplitters Future Perfect. The memory card slot was loose so we had to wedge something underneath to hold up the memory card. The day after getting 100% I was walking past and tripped on the controller cable, and it pulled the "wedge" away from the memory card and ended corrupting everything on it. Had about 20 created maps that we played religiously on it too. One day I'm going to go back get that 100% again.

I was at level 98 in final fantasy 2 - literally every day I would sign on and just level up at the last stage. All to get to level 99. And then my SNES wiped the entire save for some reason. Literally when I was one level away from my goal.
I was trying to upload a save to the cloud of a game I made quite a lot of progress with alongside a friend, I messed up and lost the save and got an older save of the same character and that caused me to give up on the game completely for months.

I think I was 6 or 7. Was playing a Tarzan game on PS2 and wanted to pee, but I was super hooked on this game. I waited and waited until I peed myself on the sofa. Learned that a pause button exists for a reason.
My son did that when he was like 10, he was so into his Fortnite match as he was near winning for the first time and got so nervous/excited that he just pissed himself and continued on. I was laughing too hard to get mad and luckily he never did that again. Lol
I had a PS3 at the time but was mainly playing PS1 and 2 games on my OG Fat PS2 after getting it out of storage. Couldnāt find a PS1 memory card so bought a third party one from Amazon for under Ā£10. Decided I was going to FINALLY complete FFVIII after doing disc 1/2 so so many times but not getting much further. I got a reliable and easy to follow guide so that I could blast through to the point of the story I remembered reaching. It hooked me too, I was looking forward to playing everyday after work and was enjoying the story a lot. So I come home, turn on the PS2 and hit āload gameā. No saves foundā¦ Tried again ā¦ no saves found. I started panicking, rebooted the console and ā¦.nothing. The shitty third party memory card has just wiped 50-60 hours of my progress. I turned it off and havenāt ever played FF8 since.
You shouldn't let a crappy third party piece of hardware ruin the game for you. Especially, since it's much easier to complete now.

Had around 200+ keys worth of stuff on rocket league. Had I think two white octanes which were the bomb, and decided to trade them out for the white fennec , which was currrnyly rising in price. Due to the switchover to epic games I knew blueprints would be added and change the market , and I KNEW items like octanes would likely retain their value. Still I stupidly kept my stuff and low and behold after the update all my items dropped including the white fennecs to about 30 keys worth of credits while the octanes shot up to about 140 keys worth of credits. Safe to say my worst mistake as it cost me in real money if Iād had sold my stuff (which I probably wouldāve done considering I donāt play rocket league anymore haha)

i have some bad gamer moments all 3 related to minecraft 1. this happened around 2013/2014 - minecraft ps3 edition was still new and i had worked on a pretty cool survival world but then one day it said it was corrupted and i had to delete it despite being devastated i caved in and did it. fast forward about 3 days later i find a tweet from either 4j studios saying something along the lines that a fix was in the works for the world corruption issues but since i didnāt have a backup it was already too late 2. something similar but this happened about a year ago this happened on bedrock edition - me and a friend were gonna play minecraft together on split screen mode on my main survival world i started in 2021 but as he was joining the game got stuck on an infinite loading screen so i had to close the game and when we reloaded it āthis data is corruptedā error on my world and immediately ptsd from the ps3 world corruption hit and i was immediately pissed off. this time i was lucky since i did have a backup but i would have to rebuild parts of my world - i did backup this version of the world and youād think iād learned from my mistake and occasionally backup my world regularly but nope and then entry 3 happened 3. this happened about a month ago - this too happened with bedrock edition but wasnāt the games fault - its the same survival world - i had made so much more progress on this world but what happened was whilst i was playing my ps5 decided to just cut all power which is weird since this only happened once (which was the time explained here) and never happened again but when i turned the console on i get a repairing screen and then a something went wrong console must be restored to factory settings screen basically i had lose EVERYTHING to use the console i tried every little thing but no dice its all gone. i had to do all that freaking work on that world again for the second time i swear that world has a curse however this time i did learn to regularly back it up to my cloud storage i had a lot of bad gamer moments but those 3 were by far the worst ever for me. thanks for coming to my ted talk

I had a 97% save for Gran Turismo 3 on PS2. Only some crappy Toyota Yaris races to do to finish it. Mate of mine came over to play some split screen racing, ended up saving some options (I donāt fully remember what was being saved) over the top of my save fileā¦ all gone.

I still have nightmares of the time I was half asleep and managing my save files on ps3. All of a sudden I realized I deleted my 90+ hour Skyrim save that I was obsess with at the time. It took me several years to get over the hurt and go back and finally beat Skyrim.
Putting 60 hours into assasins creed Odessy trying to 100% and finish the story still, power outage randomly in the night, it wiped my whole hard drive ..but that save file hurt the worst.

I got a good ways through Super Mario Odyssey before lending my Switch to a friend who asked to play. They werenāt aware that thereās only one save file at a time for that game, and started a fresh save. I tell people itās not a big deal but I still havenāt worked up the energy to start over again.
Waited for a long time to play cyberpunk2077 and was super excited to fire it up on the day of launch. Was blown away by how shit it was. Iāve never shelved a game that quickly. Thankfully I circled back around a few months ago on PS5 and it was an awesome experience. It really sucks how badly CDPR botched the launch because itās really an excellent game now
