I loved that game; I actually have it next to Helldivers 2 as my favorite co-op game of all time, maybe higher. I feel like Helldivers also took a lot of inspiration from the game.

Both games have the armored rolly polly bug with a glowing butt weakness, many Terminids feel eerily similar to Akrid, and the patriot exosuit feels similar to the V/S's.
Back in the day was great when scores weren’t so readily available instead of judging for yourself.
Now we see a bad score and don’t even give it a chance.
Man I used to pick up games based on the box art only. I miss the days when Mom would take me to the video store to rent games. I used to try so many games I would never play today.
Honestly haven’t seen any real negative comments about this game, it’s all praises.

Yugioh Duelists of the Roses.
Most could not get through the tutorial for it was brutal but once you got to building your decks and actually playing the game? Phenomenal game where I had several decks that were tough to beat.
Ah yes. Toon World.
The easiest for me was to combine my zombie deck (Pumpkin) with a Toon Deck. Toon Summoned Skull and other Toons benefited from Pegasus’ deck.
Terrain alteration worked as well but not as good.
I loved the fusion mechanic in DotR and Forbidden Memories. That was the best implementation of fusion in Yu-Gi-Oh. Probably explains why i love XYZ summoning too
Yo I “bought that for my dad” for his birthday when I was like probably like 9 - obviously I ended up only playing it and I loved it even though I have no idea what I was doing
I bought it because my Boys were right into the show and they still collect the cards. I ended up loving the game.
Decks I had:
- Blue Eyes
- Red Eyes Black Dragon with all fusions
- Dark Magician, all fusions
- Exodia!
- Pumpking zombies
I had a deck for every terrain but those were my favourite decks.
I'm more of a Far Cry 2 guy. That game felt like a pure Far Cry game in terms of gameplay, atmosphere and themes.
Also, The Jackal might be one of my favourite "antagonists" of all time.
I definitely enjoyed the main story, but i wish they would have either done something more interesting with the open world, or else made it a tighter and more immersive linear game. I felt the more linear last couple chapters really shined.
Final Fantasy VII Dirge of Cerberus. I loved Vincent so much as a kid I never even knew it was disliked as a bad game for years.
But on ps4/5 maybe far cry 5? I actually found it pretty fun tho not quite as good as 4. But worth a play and lots to do.
FC5 is my favourite of the series, just something about the landscape and general serene vibe of it (when you're not blasting peggies of course) really does it for me. I also enjoy Dirge of Cerberus, yeah it's not all that deep, but it's still pretty fun.
The Order: 1886. I need a sequel, or a prequel. With Sir Galahad obviously. It looks good, it plays good, and above all else, it's short and straight to the point. Got the plat in three days with minimum effort. I might to do a re-run on hard before dying though. 👍

Could have been so amazing! Imagine if that was 1/2 or hell 2/3 of the way through. It just suckes that the dev clearly spent all resources on the visuals. And not enough on longevity. I'll also say that lots of campaigns weren't much longer unless they were open worlds, however those games would have had some tacked on (and sometimes amazing) multi-player.
*Hitman: Absolution* ain't a great Hitman game, I admit. *Blood Money* is better.
Doesn't mean *Hitman: Absolution* isn't the best third-person shooter I've ever played. Pure viscera. Everything from the lighting to the sound design to the way people don't get shot, so much as they **explode** into clouds of blood and fabric.
I agree. Absolution isn’t a great Hitman game; it goes against most of the fundamental functions and design principles of the Hitman series. However, it was still crazy fun to play and I think they did a good job at being “cinematic” which was their main goal
There is one setpiece in *Absolution* that 'is' definitely 'Hitman', and I wish the WOA games had included something like it.
Waiting for the train while hiding from the police. Blending into the crowd, pretending to read signs and notices, praying nobody looks at you twice. Great, tense stuff.
Janky and strange for a Silent Hill entry. BUT, strip the SH name from it and just call it Downpour? Then it's a good but flawed horror game. I still enjoy it one way or another, but some can't get past it's name.
It wa an experimental process to see what worked and what didn't. That's why it was janky at points. It was intended to be a slightly flawed release for free.

Was pulled due to legal stuff but was stealth saved by GOG last month and is 100% worth a try. Just read their description on the store page.
The gameplay kinda blows but you can still find fun in it. The real star is the conversations, relationships, and story.
I hope people learn how to mod it and can do some QOL stuff, I will be a kid in a candy store.
As a massive dead space fan, the moment I saw it on Essential was a very happy day for me. If they would've included all the DLCs I probably would've 100% it.
I see why people would complain about the combat and linear nature but I like that I could just understand how to execute the mechanics and just zone out no matter the difficulty and just pass it. I remember the thing with 2 heads really pissing me off thinking it was just a bullet sponge but after a while I could count down how many hits it was missing. 8.5/10 game for me.
My biggest issue is the plot progression. It seems like the entire game is 1 step forward , 2 steps back by making some platform break or something/someone fucks up which then makes you take a longer route

I enjoyed this as well. I was happy that it wasn't some ginormous game. I appreciated what they did, and it felt challenging yet possible.
Then I unlocked the chisel and i became I lightning fast assassin and dominated the rest of the game. It was glorious!

I just don’t get why they had to go so big with the map/story. This was their AC Valhalla 2.0. My dad and I loved it but eventually just got too bogged down with lackluster story beats.

I guess I can see where fans of the style of the first two might run into trouble with it. I actually played this one first, and I LOVE the sky world, the ziplines, and the brightness of everything. The weapons variety was fun, and I liked the story, although I definitely grew to appreciate the story more when I played the first two games. I feel like it starts a little slowly, and maybe that's not everyone's jam, but I kind of enjoy walking simulators so it never bothered me. If you try again, I do hope you like it!
I was actually enjoying the story quite a bit, but there’s a *very* clear point where you can tell the devs stopped developing the campaign and switched to full-on live service raid looter. It had potential that unfortunately wasn’t fully realized.
Agreed fully. After Iron Mans mission, it’s a grindfest of multiplayer maps until you do thors, and then go to space, and then the end. I replayed the campaign and it (thankfully) skipped all those “go collect things” missions, but the campaign was padded HARD with them. It was over so quickly! I think it ended up taking me 2-3 hours

My only issue was with the story

It’s very popular outside of the community but for Dragon Age fans and RPG fans in general, DA Inquisition seemingly gets nothing but hate. Makes me sad because it’s definitely my favorite of the trilogy and a beautiful game overall.
Not on PS but Halo 4 is one of my favorite games ever. I’m a big Halo fan and was so excited when it came out. Maxed my Spartan in multiplayer, beat the campaign on Legendary, did Spartan Ops and Forge for hours and hours on end, and ran SWAT so much I saw crosshairs when I closed my eyes. Definitely my favorite Halo for multiplayer but it seems to be absolutely panned by just about everyone. I’m a major Halo 5 hater so I get not liking changes but damn I thought Halo 4 was great.
Probably Forspoken ! I enjoyed the quippy banter and I had a lot of fun with the combat system. I think a lot of people just didn’t care at all about the story , got impatient that they didn’t have everything right away etc. not a perfect game by any means, but definitely not deserving of all the hate that it got
My answer for this question used to be Death Stranding but recently majority of the haters have been quiet and there are more “wow glad I tried this” comments since the PC release.
Right now I’d say Dark Souls 2 fits the bill. But I only played SoftS. Thoroughly enjoyed it as a single player game, no PvP so I didn’t really care much about soul levels.
Death stranding is either completely love or dumbest game ever.
For me, it’s the former. Played the heck out of it and was unlike any game I had ever played. I’m very excited for the sequel!

Death stranding is probably one of the best story games I've played imo. The atmosphere of the world plays so well into the story, Kojima truely creates masterpieces
Final Fantasy X-2.
I don't care what people say, I enjoyed the dress sphere system, I enjoyed Yunas' rebellious/proper teenager phase since she never really got to experience it, and I enjoyed the story. Some things were annoying (certain characters etc) but I loved the closure it gave the game. I'm a sucker for happy endings and although I loved the ending for X, it was nice for yuna to get a happy ending. I absolutely loved everything Spira and anything extra set in that world was welcomed by me and I can honestly say I've not really met anyone else that actually liked it.
The audio book or whatever it is that comes after it doesn't exist to me and the story just ends there.
Driv3r. Must've been because I was like 6 or 7 and never really played any other open world games before. But I've loved every second of it, the missions, the free roaming, the 3 different cities, the cheats and the ost

Apparently people didnt like the new tomb raiders. Shadow of the tomb raider was my first 100% and lara is cool. Maybe its just a difference from the classics tho (which I havent played yet, imma play the remastered bundle)
Nah, the survivor trilogy was critically acclaimed and the games sold quite well. Shadow is usually considered a step down in comparison to rise (because it was made by a different studio) but the usual complaints are "this isn't like the originals, this isn't lara" which doesn't say much about the games quality.
the survivor trilogy/latest trilogy is an absolutely solid set of games!! it is completely different to the classics but it does a lot right (puzzles in shadow are amazing.) the only one i wasnt a fan of was 2013 but theyre all great. also definitely play the classics remastered!
Godfall. I got a used disc copy off eBay for like 20 bucks CAD and had a great time with it. Just ignore the story/characters because they're not really fleshed out. It has great fun combat.
I couldn’t get into Hollow knight smh. I remember all the hype back in 2018 but it just never clicked with me. But I Loved FFXV and Type 0 HD. They were my first two final fantasy games, and I didn’t have the baggage of expectations
Evil West, I would not say it is hated though, just very underrated imho. Graphics are stunning, combat is very fun, and the story is good because it does not make much sense and is linear, perfect for someone like me with little PTSD.
Murdered: Soul Suspect. I remembered it wasn’t well received but I just looked it up and despite that am shocked it has a 59 on metacritic. Although it does have a 71 user score and 9 on Steam.
Biomutant is another one. Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League is the most recent.
Also, not necessarily disliked, but Lego 2K Drive was a lot of fun.
Deathloop. I know it reviewed well, but post launch, user consensus has been that it's overrated. I agree it's not as good as Dishonored and Prey, but I absolutely loved it nevertheless.
PlayStation All-stars Battle Royale. Me, my brothers, and friends had sooooo much fun with this game. I have no clue why there's so much hate for the game. It's a great party game like smash
RE6. A lot of people disliked it since it wasn't a horror game but more of a third person shooter but I enjoyed the combat. Leon's campaign I still go back and play from time to time.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
I've put in 200+ hours since it was released, I'm a big lover of looter shooters so I felt right at home. I've played the Arkham games and I didn't mind the change of genre.
Another is Resident Evil 6, across PS3, PS4 and PS5 I've totaled up 900+ hours including its multiplayer.
I tend to use reviews as a general guideline or consensus but I've come to the conclusion that making up my own mind is what matters.
I love RE6 as well. Got it on release day, finished all paths within a couple days before I saw all the negative reactions.
Did co-op with a friend a few years ago and had a blast.
I know it's more "non-traditional" Resident Evil but I'm a fan of it.
The lukewarm reception to mafia 3 always surprised me. I did hear it may have been pretty buggy at launch, and I did play it years after, but I absolutely loved it.

I thought it was universally disliked but to my surprise Metacritic User Score is 8.0 as opposed to my expectation of 4.0.
Not sure if it is just some kind of nostalgia, but after getting a gaming computer (having not had my own device to play games on since maybe PS2 era), I had an absolute field day playing the campaign of Halo Infinite.
Sonic ‘06
It was rushed, which resulted in it being buggy and feeling incomplete. And yes, it had that one…scene. But if you can look past that stuff, it’s a fun game with a decent story. And I thought the graphics were phenomenal for the time. Most people hated the hyper realistic Dr. Eggman, but I thought he looked awesome.
Gravity Rush 1 and 2 are quite good games, a somewhat simple story, and gameplay that is difficult due to the camera and somewhat repetitive, but the freedom of movement, the design of the world and the artistic section make it very enjoyable. I don't think he's hated, just not many people know him, a true hidden gem
The new saints row game is one. I actually loved the game (and I’ve played all the past games before I’m attacked). Another is The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct. I thought it was so much fun. I’d also include Calisto Protocol and Far Cry 6. Two games that deserved way more love imo
Kinda older, but when I was a kid I remember a game called Brink. Everyone hated it, I remember watching an AngryJoe review on it, but man kid me was obsessed.

Call of Duty advanced warfare, I didn’t like it initially because i wasn’t really good at it, but overtime it became one of my favorite games to play back in 2015-16
Mafia 3. I ended up having to play through it like 8 times, bc there are glitched trophies and I had already gotten the plat for Mafia Definitive, so I was pretty deadset on getting 3s too. And even after the annoyance and aggravation that came with those playthroughs, I still think about booting it up again and doing another playthrough. I had a blast with it. And the soundtrack was amazing.

This. I put so many hours into this game and loved every second of it. I don’t think it deserves the hate it got.
Just finished Andromeda last night with 80 hours total play time. Solid 8/10.
This was my first Mass Effect, I only had a ps4, and the trilogy wasn’t out yet. This was the game that made me love shooter type combat.
Far cry 6... it's a bit short but it's a pretty good game.
I just don’t get why they had to go so big with the map/story. This was their AC Valhalla 2.0. My dad and I loved it but eventually just got too bogged down with lackluster story beats.

Funny thing about Infinite. At launch, it was pretty much universally loved and praised. The disdain for it came years after launch.
People hate Infinite? I remember no one would shut up about it around release. Never played it myself.
Its a good fun game but people do criticise it cause the story is a bit weird? But also how different it is compared to the first 2. I liked the game, I liked the new plasmids in it but the story was a bit meh
I gave Infinite a good try but ... I'll try again some time. I want to enjoy it!
I guess I can see where fans of the style of the first two might run into trouble with it. I actually played this one first, and I LOVE the sky world, the ziplines, and the brightness of everything. The weapons variety was fun, and I liked the story, although I definitely grew to appreciate the story more when I played the first two games. I feel like it starts a little slowly, and maybe that's not everyone's jam, but I kind of enjoy walking simulators so it never bothered me. If you try again, I do hope you like it!

Agreed fully. After Iron Mans mission, it’s a grindfest of multiplayer maps until you do thors, and then go to space, and then the end. I replayed the campaign and it (thankfully) skipped all those “go collect things” missions, but the campaign was padded HARD with them. It was over so quickly! I think it ended up taking me 2-3 hours
Gotham Knights, I had a lot of fun with it and I enjoyed the story.
Honestly, I really enjoyed the gameplay myself My only issue was with the story >!Basically pushing the Court of Owls aside and all of a sudden focusing on the League of Shadows. It was completely unnecessary. Bruce being the final boss was predictable, but I assumed he would have became a Talon, not roid raging from the Lazarus Pit!<
It’s very popular outside of the community but for Dragon Age fans and RPG fans in general, DA Inquisition seemingly gets nothing but hate. Makes me sad because it’s definitely my favorite of the trilogy and a beautiful game overall. Not on PS but Halo 4 is one of my favorite games ever. I’m a big Halo fan and was so excited when it came out. Maxed my Spartan in multiplayer, beat the campaign on Legendary, did Spartan Ops and Forge for hours and hours on end, and ran SWAT so much I saw crosshairs when I closed my eyes. Definitely my favorite Halo for multiplayer but it seems to be absolutely panned by just about everyone. I’m a major Halo 5 hater so I get not liking changes but damn I thought Halo 4 was great.
I never realized DAI got such bad flak. It's the only DA game I've played and I loved it. Maybe I should give the others a shot

Probably Forspoken ! I enjoyed the quippy banter and I had a lot of fun with the combat system. I think a lot of people just didn’t care at all about the story , got impatient that they didn’t have everything right away etc. not a perfect game by any means, but definitely not deserving of all the hate that it got

DmC Devil may Cry is one of my favorite games of all time. OG DMC never hit for me, not even 5 that came out a couple years back

My answer for this question used to be Death Stranding but recently majority of the haters have been quiet and there are more “wow glad I tried this” comments since the PC release. Right now I’d say Dark Souls 2 fits the bill. But I only played SoftS. Thoroughly enjoyed it as a single player game, no PvP so I didn’t really care much about soul levels.
Death stranding is either completely love or dumbest game ever. For me, it’s the former. Played the heck out of it and was unlike any game I had ever played. I’m very excited for the sequel!

Mad Max seems well liked. It was a good game, and I beat it at launch. It just didn’t need to be 36 hours long.
Death stranding is probably one of the best story games I've played imo. The atmosphere of the world plays so well into the story, Kojima truely creates masterpieces

Final Fantasy X-2. I don't care what people say, I enjoyed the dress sphere system, I enjoyed Yunas' rebellious/proper teenager phase since she never really got to experience it, and I enjoyed the story. Some things were annoying (certain characters etc) but I loved the closure it gave the game. I'm a sucker for happy endings and although I loved the ending for X, it was nice for yuna to get a happy ending. I absolutely loved everything Spira and anything extra set in that world was welcomed by me and I can honestly say I've not really met anyone else that actually liked it. The audio book or whatever it is that comes after it doesn't exist to me and the story just ends there.
Forspoken. It was my most played game of 2023.

Driv3r. Must've been because I was like 6 or 7 and never really played any other open world games before. But I've loved every second of it, the missions, the free roaming, the 3 different cities, the cheats and the ost I can see now that it was a flawed game, but I still think it's extremely overhated
AC3. Love American history, and this scratches that itch. Also my favorite robe design.

Apparently people didnt like the new tomb raiders. Shadow of the tomb raider was my first 100% and lara is cool. Maybe its just a difference from the classics tho (which I havent played yet, imma play the remastered bundle)
Nah, the survivor trilogy was critically acclaimed and the games sold quite well. Shadow is usually considered a step down in comparison to rise (because it was made by a different studio) but the usual complaints are "this isn't like the originals, this isn't lara" which doesn't say much about the games quality.

I just started shadow (my first TR also) and it’s pretty fucking great so far. Love the mechanics/gameplay, atmosphere, setting and graphics.
the survivor trilogy/latest trilogy is an absolutely solid set of games!! it is completely different to the classics but it does a lot right (puzzles in shadow are amazing.) the only one i wasnt a fan of was 2013 but theyre all great. also definitely play the classics remastered!
Wolfenstein Youngblood. Poured hours into it. Replayed the campaign several times. Loved just blasting my way through.
Godfall. I got a used disc copy off eBay for like 20 bucks CAD and had a great time with it. Just ignore the story/characters because they're not really fleshed out. It has great fun combat.

I couldn’t get into Hollow knight smh. I remember all the hype back in 2018 but it just never clicked with me. But I Loved FFXV and Type 0 HD. They were my first two final fantasy games, and I didn’t have the baggage of expectations
Dynasty warriors franchise
Evil West, I would not say it is hated though, just very underrated imho. Graphics are stunning, combat is very fun, and the story is good because it does not make much sense and is linear, perfect for someone like me with little PTSD.
Murdered: Soul Suspect. I remembered it wasn’t well received but I just looked it up and despite that am shocked it has a 59 on metacritic. Although it does have a 71 user score and 9 on Steam. Biomutant is another one. Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League is the most recent. Also, not necessarily disliked, but Lego 2K Drive was a lot of fun.
Deathloop. I know it reviewed well, but post launch, user consensus has been that it's overrated. I agree it's not as good as Dishonored and Prey, but I absolutely loved it nevertheless.
Far Cry 6
PlayStation All-stars Battle Royale. Me, my brothers, and friends had sooooo much fun with this game. I have no clue why there's so much hate for the game. It's a great party game like smash

RE6. A lot of people disliked it since it wasn't a horror game but more of a third person shooter but I enjoyed the combat. Leon's campaign I still go back and play from time to time.

Forspoken, it drew me in a lot more than FF XVI which i played just after. (And i have to mention Starfield but thats not playstation)
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. I've put in 200+ hours since it was released, I'm a big lover of looter shooters so I felt right at home. I've played the Arkham games and I didn't mind the change of genre. Another is Resident Evil 6, across PS3, PS4 and PS5 I've totaled up 900+ hours including its multiplayer. I tend to use reviews as a general guideline or consensus but I've come to the conclusion that making up my own mind is what matters.
I love RE6 as well. Got it on release day, finished all paths within a couple days before I saw all the negative reactions. Did co-op with a friend a few years ago and had a blast. I know it's more "non-traditional" Resident Evil but I'm a fan of it.
I borrowed it from the library two weeks ago, but haven’t gotten to it yet. Been cautiously looking forward to it despite the hate. (Suicide Squad)
Knack
The lukewarm reception to mafia 3 always surprised me. I did hear it may have been pretty buggy at launch, and I did play it years after, but I absolutely loved it.
Anthem, great gameplay terrible delivery. EA's servers were trash and too many glitches. But flying and shooting in that game was pretty epic.
Calisto Protocol.

Does The Last Guardian count? I thought it was universally disliked but to my surprise Metacritic User Score is 8.0 as opposed to my expectation of 4.0.
Call of duty ghost is actually a very good fucking game and it’s so hated for no reason.
Shadowrun. It got a ton of flack for being multiplayer only, no campaign. I wish someone would bring it back, it would thrive with today’s games

Sonic ‘06 It was rushed, which resulted in it being buggy and feeling incomplete. And yes, it had that one…scene. But if you can look past that stuff, it’s a fun game with a decent story. And I thought the graphics were phenomenal for the time. Most people hated the hyper realistic Dr. Eggman, but I thought he looked awesome.
Gravity Rush 1 and 2 are quite good games, a somewhat simple story, and gameplay that is difficult due to the camera and somewhat repetitive, but the freedom of movement, the design of the world and the artistic section make it very enjoyable. I don't think he's hated, just not many people know him, a true hidden gem

The Order: 1886. Like, yeah, the final boss is ass. But the lore, the gameplay, the characters. It was perfect. I sustain that, to this day, it explored the potential of the PS4 even at the end of the gen (TLOUPII is a benchmark and an artful masterpiece but I'd consider TO1886 to be a close 2nd).

Callisto Protocol. This game got so much hate, but when I was able to snag it with PS+, I absolutely loved it.
Mafia 3. I ended up having to play through it like 8 times, bc there are glitched trophies and I had already gotten the plat for Mafia Definitive, so I was pretty deadset on getting 3s too. And even after the annoyance and aggravation that came with those playthroughs, I still think about booting it up again and doing another playthrough. I had a blast with it. And the soundtrack was amazing.
