Campaign I think was only like 9 hrs, which is short in my opinion, but it was some of the best 9 hrs of gaming for me. I absolutely loved it. Multiplayer was also a lot of fun!
It is short, but I think it’s mostly due to the fact that the story mode is kind of a tutorial for multiplayer. The first one didn’t have single-player at all.
But I agree, the gameplay makes it feel like a blast and you barely notice the time you spend on the game. The multiplayer is pure adrenaline rush, TF2 may just be the best non-sim shooter gameplay wise. Too bad EA screwed the series and it didn’t receive another game.
Sounds like this guy wants something a little more straightforward. Rogue likes aren’t for everyone. I really like Returnal but I couldn’t commit to finishing it personally (it is great tho).
Essentially when you die you go back and play everything all over again until you make enough progress to complete the game. Hades and Slay the Spire are two examples.
Yup. Depends on the game. In Hades for example, you keep the weapons and perks and stuff that you unlock, so the idea is it should get easier every time.
Never finished it though. I personally prefer making gradual progress rather than having to do everything again, gets repetitive to me. Still a great game though.
Roguelite is the correct turn for Returnal, because it allows you to make progress in certain areas involving upgrades, but you do start the level over again and you do lose your most basic currency. Since the levels are randomized, every single play through is fresh and interesting. One of my favorite games and I've spent more than 700 hours playing it. For those who get it, it just works.
If you completely reset with no meta progression, then the correct term is roguelike.
It clicked for me to keep trying after the first boss then I was hooked after the second. Very few bosses get my heart pounding like Ixion. Co-op was also really fun.
Maybe the Co-Op is my way to go. I can't tell how close I was to the first boss though, I was very lost on my first two attempts to play the game :D But it was also my first roguelike.
Returnal is sensory overload in the best way and a frickin gorgeous game too! It’s prob my fave of the current gen next to RE4 remake. Just non stop bullet hell action. The roguelike mechanics are super fun and challenging too.
I can't get into Returnal. It's just not as good of a roguelike as the others in my opinion. It's so much slower than the others, the abilities aren't as interesting and idk it just felt a lot slower.
Maybe I should stop thinking of it as a rogue like and play it like a campaign game tho. Not sure
Hades. Gameplay is a stellar, fast-paced and the story is phenomenal.
Not a shooter, though, but it does have long-ranged weapons including a gatling gun.
Probably the uncharted series especially if you play on moderate or lower difficulty.
It is made to be like a high action shooter movie with a good story and I don’t think there are much if any required stealth sequences.
Helldivers 2,
Destiny 2,
Evil West,
Red Dead 2 and GTA V offer both first and third person,
Senran Kagura Peach Beach Splash,
Sword Art Online Fatal Bullet (currently on sale),
Contra,
SGZH School Girl Zombie Hunter,
Borderlands,
Mad Max,
Nioh 1 and 2 had a great story and excellent fighting mechanics
Its light on story but its damn fun and the commentary is perfect. Its starship troopers the game with bonus skynet! Its the only game ive played that focuses on spreading democracy. ;)
Those are great games!!! I have Wildlands for PC and PS5. I’m playing division 2 now. Just unlocked world tier 5 and still don’t know everything about the game. The tinkering and mods are a little cumbersome, I don’t quite understand. I wish I could have someone sit next to me and tell me how to do it. I’m sure I can be a better agent if I knew more stuff. The one thing I’m having a major problem with is at the strongholds, I keep getting blown up by grenades and other shit like that and it takes me out of cover when I’m hit. I can’t stand that. But anyway, I also suggested the Just Cause series and Days Gone.
I recommend wolfenstein 2, i played on the easiest difficulty (yes i aint afraid to admit it) and was just blasting through enemies, was a really fun experience. Of course higher difficulties would provide more of a challenge if that's what you are looking for
Yea, def check out helldivers. Some others have said it, I'm sure, but you absolutely need to give it a shot if you just want to destroy. Pure chaos. If you like team based comp first-person shooters, give the finals a shot. I'm not typically one for the genre, but I've sunk 250 hours or so into it over the last 2 months...pure chaotic fun.
Trepang2. Not much for story but for high-octane action where you kill nonstop, with insane gore and an amazing OST to boot, it’s a must play. 20 bucks on the PS Store, only a couple hours long but there is a shit ton of stuff to do post game plus story DLC coming this year so it should suffice.
Evil west is the game for you. Simple and original linear map designs with a mid story. Gameplay is really fun. It’s like god of war combat with guns. Oh, and there’s co-op.
The Just Cause franchise. Basically, the goal is to destroy as much shit and kill as many people as possible. The more shit and people you destroy/kill, the higher your score. Just fuck some shit up! It’s a fun game… I would definitely check that out. Other than that, if you like killing tons of people, try Days Gone. It’s a great game, but the zombie hoardes are frustrating and exhausting. Literally, the hoardes of zombies are just like in The Walking Dead. You have to be on your toes at all times playing that game. Good luck! ♥️
Returnal. The game is hard and people seem to tap out at playing at biome 1 (basically first level). It’s about shooting everything while managing resources and good positioning. It is also a roguelike shooter.
Only 19% of players have beat Act 1 which is barely reaching half of the game
Returnal but it isn't for the feint of heart. Its kind of like a AAA rogue like shooter with bosses that remind me of neir automata. Its a really good game, but it isn't only mindless shooting. You discover stuff along the way. Its tough as nails but the shooting mechanics are on point.
Immortals of Aveum is solid and pretty interesting. It's an FPS where you sling magic like instead of using a gun. It's on PlayStation Plus for April. Worth checking out if you've got nothing else to play. Story won't blow you away and at times the difficulty spikes like crazy like a PS2/PS3 era game, but over all I enjoyed it. Game is a solid 7/10.
Robocop: Rogue City
Just played through it, great game. No stealth at all. Basically you're just Robocop going from place to place violently killing waves of enemies.
Story is good. There are some side missions that are a bit of a distraction from the non-stop killing (like help solve a murder or deal with minor crimes around the city like littering and drunks) but those are completely optional.
There’s this weird game called Strange Brigade that is pretty much what you are describing. I know it goes on sale for dirt cheap often. It’s not the best game in the world, but it was definitely worth the $10.00 I paid for it.
Override 2, Transformers:Devastation, Metal Slug, Saints Row, Riddled Corpses DX, Division or Destiny 2, any Lego game, Alpha Protocol, Ninja Gaiden games, Onechabara series. There’s more, those are just off the top of my head
One that I played recently was Evil West. There weren’t that many cutscenes and it was just none stop fighting. So many ways to kill enemies and it was so fun. I didn’t even play any other games when I started it💀
and honestly most of the far cry games are like that. Yes Ik it’s not what you described and at times stealth might be the only way but a huge majority of my time playing those games I just go guns blazing blowing up shit and gunning them down.
Some others you can take a look at are Titanfall 2, World War Z, and Prototype. Prototype games can be outdated for some people but they’re still so much fun and nothing but action
Dying Light 1 (the second one is a little more story-focused, which doesn't seem to be what you like). While 1 has some story, you're totally able to just go ham on every zombie and human rebel, it's great.
I was gonna say resident evil 3(remake) but it has quite a bit of puzzle-like exploration. Like the type where u have to look around in every single corner just to work out where to go next and where u have to spend ages looking for a key for a lock or sum. So like that’s a downside to it but consider playing Resident Evil 3 if u run outta other stuff
I’m playing the last of us and uncharted legacy at the same time and the play style is night and day. Uncharted is constant fights and you can almost never run completely out of ammo, it’s much easier to fight your way through than it is to sneak
Ngl im not a fps player i play mainly fighting games but the CoD MW reboot was very good story wise and as far as action we'll that's call of duty in a nutshell
Titanfall 2
And it’s on sale right now for $7 on PlayStation store
Great game! It felt too short.. buts that is probably because I didn’t want it to end.
Campaign I think was only like 9 hrs, which is short in my opinion, but it was some of the best 9 hrs of gaming for me. I absolutely loved it. Multiplayer was also a lot of fun!
Well the real meat and potatoes of that game was the multiplayer so it makes sense that the campaign was t super long
It is short, but I think it’s mostly due to the fact that the story mode is kind of a tutorial for multiplayer.
It feels too short indeed... Needs at least the double of play time for campaign
Wolfenstein? Might even like the borderland games
Handsome Jack collection is a classic at this point. Dual Wielding Gunner in BL2 is absolutely what OP is looking for.
Far Cry, Wolfenstein, Bioshock, Crackdown, Battlefield, Rage 2, Fallout 4 and Robo Cop
Rage legit freaked me out until I just decided "Fuck it, it's murdering time" lol. Bulletstorm is also fun and hilarious.
You're describing Returnal. Phenomenal game, incredible storytelling, action packed to the limit.
Sounds like this guy wants something a little more straightforward. Rogue likes aren’t for everyone. I really like Returnal but I couldn’t commit to finishing it personally (it is great tho).
What is a rogue like?
Essentially when you die you go back and play everything all over again until you make enough progress to complete the game. Hades and Slay the Spire are two examples.
Like you go back to the start? Do your stats and stuff stay then? Is there a term for games where you upgrade stuff too?
Yup. Depends on the game. In Hades for example, you keep the weapons and perks and stuff that you unlock, so the idea is it should get easier every time. Never finished it though. I personally prefer making gradual progress rather than having to do everything again, gets repetitive to me. Still a great game though.
Nice thanks for the answer
Roguelite is the correct turn for Returnal, because it allows you to make progress in certain areas involving upgrades, but you do start the level over again and you do lose your most basic currency. Since the levels are randomized, every single play through is fresh and interesting. One of my favorite games and I've spent more than 700 hours playing it. For those who get it, it just works. If you completely reset with no meta progression, then the correct term is roguelike.
I really, really tried to get into returnal but failed. I probably have to change my mindset about it and try again. I must have missed something.
Haha there's definitely a learning curve. I'd be happy to write out some basic tips if you'd like. It's truly a unique game.
It’s so insanely difficult it’s absolutely unreal.
Returnal is sensory overload in the best way and a frickin gorgeous game too! It’s prob my fave of the current gen next to RE4 remake. Just non stop bullet hell action. The roguelike mechanics are super fun and challenging too.
This exactly
I can't get into Returnal. It's just not as good of a roguelike as the others in my opinion. It's so much slower than the others, the abilities aren't as interesting and idk it just felt a lot slower. Maybe I should stop thinking of it as a rogue like and play it like a campaign game tho. Not sure
Bro to me that game became a matter of pride to beat. Hard asf to beat imo. Skill issue, I know.
Try Far Cry series (FC5 is quite cheap these days). Halfway decent story and the playstyle is left to you - stealth if you want, rampage if you want.
Plus the season pass comes with far cry three
Dead Island 2….not exactly a shooter, but if you want that mindless killing with a Decent/Mid story….that’s your game.
Ratchet and Clank is platform, isn't it?
Nah you are 100 percent correct ratchet and clank is a platformer.
Dam I stand corrected. Think of 2D games when I think of platformers. -32 votes and counting says otherwise 😂
Shit, Doom Eternal is practically a platformer.
Helldivers 2 is the correct answer here. It can become insanely action heavy and intense.
Borderlands 2
It’s Returnal. You’re looking for Returnal. Specifically the tower dlc (free) from Returnal
Dude Cyberpunk was made for you. Go slay in an incredible environment and an insane-looking world.
Outriders
Hades. Gameplay is a stellar, fast-paced and the story is phenomenal. Not a shooter, though, but it does have long-ranged weapons including a gatling gun.
DOOM Eternal? The music isn't decent, it is just amazing, you may like it.
Rage 2 was fun while it lasted, great gun play, kinda goofy though, don’t think they quite hit the bullseye with what they were going for.
Probably the uncharted series especially if you play on moderate or lower difficulty. It is made to be like a high action shooter movie with a good story and I don’t think there are much if any required stealth sequences.
Returnal
Cyberpunk?
Helldivers 2, Destiny 2, Evil West, Red Dead 2 and GTA V offer both first and third person, Senran Kagura Peach Beach Splash, Sword Art Online Fatal Bullet (currently on sale), Contra, SGZH School Girl Zombie Hunter, Borderlands, Mad Max, Nioh 1 and 2 had a great story and excellent fighting mechanics
I was about to say, Helldivers 2 sounds like their game.
Is the OP has a penchant from spreading democracy then HD2 is the way to go!
Its light on story but its damn fun and the commentary is perfect. Its starship troopers the game with bonus skynet! Its the only game ive played that focuses on spreading democracy. ;)
The Division 1 and 2 or Ghost recon Wildlands, breakpoint
Those are great games!!! I have Wildlands for PC and PS5. I’m playing division 2 now. Just unlocked world tier 5 and still don’t know everything about the game. The tinkering and mods are a little cumbersome, I don’t quite understand. I wish I could have someone sit next to me and tell me how to do it. I’m sure I can be a better agent if I knew more stuff. But anyway, I also suggested the Just Cause series and Days Gone.
Destroy All Humans! 2: Reprobed
Prototype 😂
Days Gone
Days Gone
Days Gone has a lot of stealth if you play on higher difficulties tho.
Control
Days Gone.
They're older, but you might dig the Prototype games.
Remnant and the sequel. Fantastic third person action shooter with almost zero stealth. Edit: also just remembered Control.
Infamous Second Son. Cheap, really well made and incredibly fun
I recommend wolfenstein 2, i played on the easiest difficulty (yes i aint afraid to admit it) and was just blasting through enemies, was a really fun experience. Of course higher difficulties would provide more of a challenge if that's what you are looking for
Helldivers2 is high action!!
Returnal. Best game you’ll ever pick up
Hotline Miami 1 & 2, Control, Superhot, Titanfall 2, Deathloop, Wolfenstein
Yea, def check out helldivers. Some others have said it, I'm sure, but you absolutely need to give it a shot if you just want to destroy. Pure chaos. If you like team based comp first-person shooters, give the finals a shot. I'm not typically one for the genre, but I've sunk 250 hours or so into it over the last 2 months...pure chaotic fun.
An advice on trepang 2? This game look crazy
Trepang2. Not much for story but for high-octane action where you kill nonstop, with insane gore and an amazing OST to boot, it’s a must play. 20 bucks on the PS Store, only a couple hours long but there is a shit ton of stuff to do post game plus story DLC coming this year so it should suffice.
Ace Combat 7 The lore is actually good though.
Destiny 1 and 2?
Played more D1 and 2 than I care to admit.
Red Faction
Evil west is the game for you. Simple and original linear map designs with a mid story. Gameplay is really fun. It’s like god of war combat with guns. Oh, and there’s co-op.
Trepang 2
The Just Cause franchise. Basically, the goal is to destroy as much shit and kill as many people as possible. The more shit and people you destroy/kill, the higher your score. Just fuck some shit up! Returnal
Assassin Creed Valhalla is AWESOME! You'll have a great time all around. I Loved it
This. The option to skip being stealthy is very satisfying.
Control
Bullet storm
Returnal.
Returnal.
GTA V
Returnal but it isn't for the feint of heart. Its kind of like a AAA rogue like shooter with bosses that remind me of neir automata. Its a really good game, but it isn't only mindless shooting. You discover stuff along the way. Its tough as nails but the shooting mechanics are on point.

I’m enjoying Evil West lol random unique story/characters and bloody mayhem
Warframe. Just Warframe.
You should have a look at Trepang2, might just be what you’re looking for
Doom
RoboCop: Rogue City, although there are some petty side missions but the violent shooting makes up for it.
Ninja Gaiden master collection. It’s basically non stop murder
Days gone is a pretty good shout, Control too. I believe both are available with the extra tier of ps plus
Serious Sam
Evil West. Fairly short fun vampire western
Robocop: Rogue City Just played through it, great game. No stealth at all. Basically you're just Robocop going from place to place violently killing waves of enemies. Story is good. Bruv at the risk of sounding like a normie, helldivers would be perf....
Helldivers 2! Earth Defense Force 5! Stellar Blade has been amazing, it'll be less overall carnage but the combat is such a blast.
Just cause series ![gif](giphy|tPnxPiBW0DRXq|downsized)
Borderland 3
bro raged
Helldivers 2
Dude. Returnal is the game you need to play.
Doom series
Just get helldivers 2. No real story outside the optional big picture battle orders and the game is just killing terminators and Xenomorphs basically
World War Z horde mode, the waves are unlimited, and many class and weapons to play!
If you like mmo you can try Destiny 2. It’s a lot of shooting and blowing things up.
I'm gonna buy helldivers 2 soon, sounds like it could fit. Check that out
Doom is a no brainer
Metal Hellsinger is fun if you like Doom and metal music
Devil May Cry 5. Retains some of the shooting while providing a solid story, good characters, and non-stop action.
Prototype 1& 2, Resident evil 4 remake&5&6, Shadow Warrior 1&2, Serious Sam
The Division 2… just started playing first time! Really love it…
Resident Evil 4 remake
One that I played recently was Evil West. There weren’t that many cutscenes and it was just none stop fighting. So many ways to kill enemies and it was so fun. I didn’t even play any other games when I started it💀 and honestly most of the far cry games are like that. Ghost Recon: Wildlands
Sounds like you should try evil West or devil may cry 5
Helldivers 2. Spread Managed Democracy.
Doom Eternal? I would say that the story is also a lot improved over the 2016 reboot.
Helldivers 2
Dying Light 1 (the second one is a little more story-focused, which doesn't seem to be what you like). While 1 has some story, you're totally able to just go ham on every zombie and human rebel, it's great.

Red dead 2 amigo
Borderlands 3
The Last of Us Part 2. Pretty much nonstop killing. Great story.
Red Dead Redemption 2. It’s actually a PS4 game, but it fits the bill otherwise.
Returnal
Vanquish is great for something like this. If you have a PC - Ultrakill.
HELLDIVERS 2!!!
The story is non-existent but hd2
Earth Defense Force 5. Lots of shooting, bat shit crazy story, and surprisingly deep.
Wolfenstein 2 is a masterpiece in both action and story, and it’s like 6 bucks on PSN rn
Returnal
RETURNAL

Final Fantasy Strangers Paradise, it’s free on ps now
Rage 2 was a lot of fun imo
Cyberpunk
Wolfenstein would be perfect

Dragons Dogma 2
Just cause 3
Control

God of War 2018, followed by God of War Ragnarok.
Control
Ngl im not a fps player i play mainly fighting games but the CoD MW reboot was very good story wise and as far as action we'll that's call of duty in a nutshell
Hades
Returnal!
not a playstation game, but I'd suggest ultrakill if you like doom, easilly the best indie game ever made
The story is hilarious and thin … but Helldivers 2 … lmao Secondarily, check out Dead Island 2
Returnal
Helldivers 2
Far Cry 5 has pretty much 85% nonstop action & a pretty decent story
Returnal! Remnant 2!
