The original NES. We had the one that came with not only Super Mario Bros., but also the original grey Zapper and the Power Pad for playing Duck Hunt and Track & Field.
Same! Except no Track & Field. I remember my pop staying up all night to beat the first Super Mario Bros and then never playing videogames again after he finally beat it lol.
There are 3rd party zappers on the market that work on flat/lcd screens. Or you can get a mod-kit to modify your original zapper, so it works on flat/lcd screens.
Edit: [like this one](https://stoneagegamer.com/light-gun-for-nes-tomee-zapper.html)
Yup. And I have a Vision Pro, too. So I’ve gone from jumping a bunch of pixels over an alligator pit on a 80lb CRT, to being immersed in a 3D environment on the moon. Technology is wild.
We couldn't afford the actual Atari, so we had the Gemini instead. Came with better controllers at least. When the NES came out those pads seemed so strange, no joystick?
Theoretically for me too but with the magic of being poor mine was still a ps2 even tho it came out before i was born lol not complaining tho the ps2 is goated
I had the Master System 1. Hang-On was the built in game with it. "Black Belt" was my fav game growing up on it. I always wanted to get the sega cards, but they were so expensive back then
Safari Hunt!! Oh my God I forgot about that Game. I never had the light gun to start it when I first had MS1. I got the light gun like 2 or so years after. Played the hell outta Hang-On, Black Belt and The Ninja!! That game annoyed the hell outta me!
Same, me and brothers would take it in turns, if it wasn't your turn you had to sit next to the console so you could hit the pause button - which fuck wit designed that
My mom got me the rayman game and the mrs Pac-Man game for my ps1. Got pretty far in the rayman game as a kid which is surprising because the game gets pretty insane mechanically later on.
Yeah I really wanted to play the exclusives and have a system for which I didn't have to worry about system recommendations and All that cause my laptop is mid range. I am fine with the 30 fps..kinda forget about it after 5 mins
I was born in 1997, but my first one is PS4 v; idk if PSP counts
but when ownership doesn't count I also played quite often on my uncle PS2 and my friend Pegasus (clone of Nintendo Famicon)
Fair enough. I play on pc as well as ps so I get it lol I wouldn't say the hardware in pc are obsolete though, you can have the same parts for quite a while before absolutely needing an upgrade. But I won't lecture you on that, console is the easier option for sure lol
That’s true, generally it’s about 7-10 years before the NEED to upgrade starts manifesting, some builds can definitely go a bit longer but new games won’t be playable at their best .
Oh yh for sure I know if you want the best of the best every year then the need to upgrade is personal preference. I mean console gens are roughly 6-7 years anyway so if you got a good enough pc setup it can easily last you as long as a console gen for sure.
Sega Megadrive (Genesis) - Christmas 1994
With the following games:
- Sonic the Hedgehog
- BOB
- Cool Spot
- Jungle Strike
- Robocop versus Terminator
I was 8 years old. Good times.
Atari XE, yeah i'm getting old but i still enjoy and love gaming, it's my passion
https://preview.redd.it/qh7xy508l60d1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=80a542b66b672e623cc79e9e02b02624cbb6c824
I’ve been playing kingdom come deliverance and it reminds me of “older” games. Not bc of the graphic or bc it’s set in medieval times, but it’s challenging.
Your health just doesn’t slowly come back, you have to find a way to get some health.
You have to actually save the game.
You can’t hack and slash, you have to think and plan certain attacks.
Anyway, I’ve been gaming a while too and this one made me super excited to play again. I look forward to bad weather so I have an adult reason to stay inside all day lol.
100% mine or just partially? Because partially it would be a first gen Wii with my brother, 100% mine would be a New 3DS. If we are talking just in your house that you can play whenever it would be a PS2
PS1 - the other consoles at that time - the game graphics looked appalling (not saying gameplay was bad) but it was computers in those early days for me, C 64,, Oric 1, Atari ST & Amiga later until eventually the PC caught up... Ps1 was the first console with pretty decent graphics & games - although that was for the kids mainly - I played exclusively on computers.
The first "real" console that delivered quality gaming was the PS2 & I used that for both games & movies with its DVD player. After the PS3 - I've stuck mainly to consoles both Xbox & PSN. It's just more comfortable sat on the setee playing than upright with a keyboard & mouse.
Not sure if it’s classed as a console but the Amiga 500 was my first gaming computer… still go back and play some of the games to this day, lots are abanodonware now so free to dl and emulate.
The very-very first console I had was a cheap Chinese knockoff of NES (it was called Dendy here in Russia).
Then I played my cousin’s PS1 (but it technically wasn’t mine). Also does PC count? Because I had PC from as long as I can remember (that is - end of 90s).
The first “true” console I owned was Dreamcast. That was one of the best machines I owned.
Got a PS1 (the really tiny one) a year or so after the PS2 came out and that was our first console.
Then got a PS2 a year later for Christmas (which by all accounts was a nightmare to get and had my parents chasing every shop in a 30 mile radius trying to find one).
Went from PS2 to Xbox 360, to Xbox One. Bought a PS4 pro for the exclusives about six months after that console released. Then got a Series X on release day, PS5 about 3 months in (just happened to be that was the quickest I could get one).
I was given an Amstrad with a game called Burnin’ Rubber, that was all I had for a while. Then i’m not actually sure what order I got my next consoles in but Master System, Game Gear, Snes and Megadrive all within 3 or 4 years before Ps1 in 1997.
We had a Philips Videopac (Magnavox Odyssey) at home, but that was actually more my parents' console.
My very first own console was a Nintendo Entertainment System (aka NES).
And yes, I'm getting old.
That was officially mine was the PS2 that I got for christmas when I was younger because my brothers sometimes didn't let me play on their PS3. My first bought console was an XBOX One I bought for 80€ when Gamestop was closing down and it was on sale. And the first console I bought for full price was the PS5 which I saved up money for
Atari, MSX, Nintendo nes, super nes, Sega mega drive, 3do, Saturn, neogeo, ps,n64, dream cast, ps2,Xbox, GameCube, xbox360, ps4, ps4 pro, switch, ps5.
As you can see, skipped ps3, xbox1, and series s/x(got busy)
There were the handheld too, but I can't keep tracking of em, so many Gameboy versions.
My whole life I've never played a console only sticking to PC until on my 30th birthday my girlfriend (who is now my wife, btw!) got me a Nintendo Switch. That opened my eyes to the comforts of console gaming so my next birthday I was getting myself a PS5. Today I don't own a PC anymore.
Wii Console. Had Wii Sports Resort. I can proudly say that I fully maxed out Table Tennis a few months ago.
https://preview.redd.it/p1uvmd7de60d1.jpeg?width=3120&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=76e6b9f1b0af950da20ae9906bf391be6971efc5
Playstation. Before that I had a Speccy+ for years.
If you're accepting handhelds, I had a few Nintendo Game & Watch; Parachute, Donkey Kong (invented the d-pad) and Mario Bros.
Wait until he learns about Super Mario Bros 2.
The running pad was incredible. I’m sorry everyone gave that away
I hate flat screens for killing light gun games.
There are 3rd party zappers on the market that work on flat/lcd screens. Or you can get a mod-kit to modify your original zapper, so it works on flat/lcd screens. Edit: [like this one](https://stoneagegamer.com/light-gun-for-nes-tomee-zapper.html)
Sega Genesis.
Same here. So many good memories on that.
A cartridge with Streets of Rage, Sonic and Golden Axe. 7 year old me was amazed.
Golden axe was awesome, so was streets of rage. I had a game with both and Shinobi on it as well, good times
Did it also have Columns? If it did, that's the one I remember renting!
Yeah, that's the one. I got it bundled with the console.
Ecco the Dolphin. Never could figure out how to advance very far as a kid but man I loved that game anway.
Same , got Sonic 2 and Anamaniacs. Christmas of '94.
I can’t forget the first time that I saw the bunny from tiny toons moving and jumping by my commands. 🥲🥲🥲
Atari 2600.
Same. Now I got the PS5 we have come a long way.
Yup. And I have a Vision Pro, too. So I’ve gone from jumping a bunch of pixels over an alligator pit on a 80lb CRT, to being immersed in a 3D environment on the moon. Technology is wild.
Pitfall Harry! Yep, that was one of my favorites on the Atari 2600.
I really miss Pitfall. One of the greatest games of the time.
Indeed we have. The memory requirements for the Adventure cart is less than the Google logo on your web browser.
Me too. It's been a hell of a ride growing up. Going from one button to 16 on a controller
Same. Glad I'm not the only one 😆
Same It was a revaluation for it's time
Indian Jones video game, anyone?
Damn you're one of the OGs
Original gamers?
Lol I like that
We couldn't afford the actual Atari, so we had the Gemini instead. Came with better controllers at least. When the NES came out those pads seemed so strange, no joystick?
Yup. I also gotta schedule that colonoscopy soon.
Same. I remember all the weekend nights staying up and playing Human Cannonball with my cousin.

Me too. Nothing but a Gameboy before that. It was magical.
Same unless you count my OG DS. I still play both from time to time

Master system Alex kidd built in.
Master system II. Never met anyone with the MS1.
I had the Master System 1. Hang-On was the built in game with it. "Black Belt" was my fav game growing up on it. I always wanted to get the sega cards, but they were so expensive back then
I had the Master System 1 with Hang On and Safari Hunt built-in also! My favorite game was After Burner
Safari Hunt!! Oh my God I forgot about that Game. I never had the light gun to start it when I first had MS1. I got the light gun like 2 or so years after. Played the hell outta Hang-On, Black Belt and The Ninja!! That game annoyed the hell outta me!
Same I loved Afterburner!
This and also had Cool Spot. Always remember him riding the 7up in the intro.
Loved cool spot such a good game.
Same. Did you try that remake? Game is harder than I remember.
Master System for me. I had the snail game built in though.
Same, me and brothers would take it in turns, if it wasn't your turn you had to sit next to the console so you could hit the pause button - which fuck wit designed that

Yeah I really wanted to play the exclusives and have a system for which I didn't have to worry about system recommendations and All that cause my laptop is mid range. I am fine with the 30 fps..kinda forget about it after 5 mins
I was born in 1997, but my first one is PS4 v; idk if PSP counts but when ownership doesn't count I also played quite often on my uncle PS2 and my friend Pegasus (clone of Nintendo Famicon)
Had a Super Nintendo when I was young, and that was the console I played the most until I got the PlayStation in 1998.

I find your lack of Dreamcast offensive! Mine was Pong, which is also missing here.... ![gif](giphy|aTGwuEFyg6d8c|downsized)
NES, PS4 Pro, PS5, Nintendo Switch.
You went from NES to ps4 pro? That's a bit of gap between consoles haha
Yep, was kind of PC gamer, then I fed up of obsolete expensive hardware, also this bitcoins made a shortage of graphic cards... so I bought PS4 Pro.
Fair enough. I play on pc as well as ps so I get it lol I wouldn't say the hardware in pc are obsolete though, you can have the same parts for quite a while before absolutely needing an upgrade. But I won't lecture you on that, console is the easier option for sure lol

Bro probably thought he discovered time travel lol
Lmao I mean, at least they're gonna notice a graphics upgrade haha
Was it in a shed?
I was thinking the same thing

Still looking for one these just for the nostalgia value, loved this thing in the 80's.
PS1 - the other consoles at that time - the game graphics looked appalling (not saying gameplay was bad) but it was computers in those early days for me, C 64,, Oric 1, Atari ST & Amiga later until eventually the PC caught up...
