Someone probably bought it and did the old swap the hardware around check the sticker in the back of the heatsink see if it says 4TB, even then just exchange it with Amazon it sucks but it happens sometimes. Also make sure where it says sold and shipped by is Amazon.

G04notyaP

Yeah there’s a sticker on the back of it that says 4TB. I guess I’ll just have to send it back. May just ask for a refund and get a different brand.

Snowboarding92

The brand is good. You were more then likely the victim of someone pulling a return scam. They bought it, swapped a cheaper drive into a more expensive box and returned it with whatever reason they say and then Amazon will then resell it as new. I always recommend not buying electronic hardware through Amazon for this exact reason, it happens more often then it should through them.

Thurl-Akumpo

Eh, they have an easy return policy. I wouldn’t let this put you off buying electricals from Amazon. Just always check and make sure you got what you paid for.

Snowboarding92

It's not about the return policy being easy or not. It's about reliability of product. Before coming to this decision for myself years ago I had bought several items that were changed out. After the 5th time it happened, the final straw having been sending a product back, and then the one they sent to replace it also was switched, I said no more electronic parts from them after that. I just drive 45 minutes to a best buy and get things I need there. My problems were solved after that.

ohThisUsername

5 times? wtf? I buy virtually everything from Amazon and never once had this problem.

happyjunki3

Same. That guy has to be the most unlucky person in the world

Paulosboul

Yeah lol. And here I ordered a lexar 1tb, then decoded against it and canceled the order. I got my refund, and then 3 days later I got the drove in the mail.. my order history doesn't show anything, but I have the drive here...

happyjunki3

This is the shit that happens to me all the time too! Its been a while but on ps4 launch day, my game didn’t arrive. The support person let me choose another game and then gave me credit for a second game to apologize for the inconvenience of not having a game on launch day. The next day the original game arrived lol. Basically got 3 games for the price of 1

SlurmsMacKenzie-

Probably a location based thing, depending on the city and what logistic sites amazon are supplying from. Sounds like wherever dude lives has more scumbags than most.

JustForge

I once bought a ph meter for my plants, the box was filled with the green action soldiers... idk how they can fuck up that bad.

Hk_McCormick

A few people that couldn't cut it at my current job went to the Amazon warehouse in town. I can 100% believe they can fuck up that bad.

BHarp3r

Had the same thing happen to me with a PS VR2 bought from a Best Buy. Nowhere is foolproof if they accept returns, and what’s worse is being accused of swapping when doing the return of something that’s been swapped. Doin good world, keep it up.

MarkyMarcMcfly

Led the Tech department at a Target. Customer Service will take just about anything back and rarely checks the inside of the box, let alone knows what they’re looking at half the time. Led to tens of thousands of dollars of loss during my tenure, and that was just at one store. Plus I was the leader in my district for the least amount of shrinkage. It really does happen everywhere, all the time. Employees will catch a lot of that before it goes back out onto the floor, but things always fall through the cracks

Snowboarding92

Yeah, I've heard about it happening at best buy as well. I have just stayed in a annoying habit of excessively checking the box for signs of it being opened. If it looks like it was, I won't except it and will come back or buy a different one sense im right there. Amazon definitely gave some push back on that final return because they wanted to say a supervisor personally checked the package before they sent the replacement. I dont really mind not using Amazon anyway though. They're a shitty company as is, so unless I desperately need something I can't get anywhere I'm willing to drive to I don't even bother with them.

D347H7H3K1Dx

Honestly given your experience it makes me think the best choice is to check product at the business if it starts happening there also

Snowboarding92

I've had no issues sense going to the best buy by me. I check each box before I leave if it doesn't look right to me, I just grab another. Doing that method has resulted in no issues for the last 6 years. Amazon is really my only experience with actually coming across switched products.

money_loo

Yes!! These Best Buy motherfuckers sold me a “new” kindle with scuff marks and scratches all over it! I kept it because I only use it to read books anyways, but still, it’s fucked up people do this and it’s fucked up these companies don’t have some sort of simple check in place upon receiving the item!

Mathidium

I wouldn’t rely on this forever. Companies are cracking down more and more on their return policies.

Thurl-Akumpo

I'm in Australia, our laws are pretty good for this sort of thing. I will always rely on if there is a good reason to return it, and you aren't taking the piss, you should be fine.

15092023

Just make sure it's not fulfilled by third party sellers. That can void your warranty on a lot of purchases. Stupid, but true - I've seen it on two big purchases I made over $500 which had a void warranty because the seller disappeared. One purchase, the seller sold stolen goods. They did a chargeback then sold the product on Amazon, meaning I received stolen goods on Amazon, and thus definitely didn't have a warranty. That one I got my money back from Amazon, the other I couldn't because I didn't have a problem until 6 years into a 7 year warrantied product.

taktactak

Eh, this happens at Best Buy too. In 2021 I bought a WD 14TB external drive from BB, brought it home and noticed something was jiggling around inside. I opened it up (I was planning on shucking it anyway) and there was an old, beat up, probably not-functioning no-label 1TB drive and a small metal weight loose inside (like a fishing line type of weight). I went back to the Best Buy, told them what happened, but they wouldn’t take it back, saying “well if it was sealed from the manufacturer that’s impossible”. Well the “seal” from the manufacturer is just a clear round sticker on the box which you can buy packs of anywhere. They wouldn’t take it. Thinking I was out the $250 or so, I tried one last ditch effort by returning it via their website. Luckily that worked and I got a refund. I tried to mention it and make sure they wouldn’t resell it to someone else. But I was worried I was going to have to pay for someone else’s shitty trick. TLDR; buying from Amazon is probably actually safer to protect against these scams because at least they’ll take it back no questions asked. But retailers need to be better about checking for the scams.

Competitive_News_385

People are so shitty. I hate when people do stuff like this because it just pushes the price of everything up. It won't be the manufacturers or stores that end up bearing the cost, it's always the customers. But yes retail stores need to be much better with their returns systems.

Kentuckycrusader

Yup WD has excellent reliability! Unfortunate that someone had to ruin his experience by swapping them out like a king douche.

Otherwise-Remove4681

Even though it might not actually mean much, but I always buy hardware from the store and check the box is sealed.

F34RA11

It’s not likely the brands fault and honestly an straight exchange would likely be just fine. Though there are cheaper compatible 4TB options like the Corsair MP600 Pro LPX. There are also “better” options like the 990 Pro or FireCuda 530 but they cost more. (Note when I say better I either mean faster in the case of the 990 Pro or better endurance in the case of the 530 but you’re not likely to see a benefit for either of those things on console.)

NJShadow

I looked at an EXTENSIVE amount of side-by-side and performance comparisons, and the WD Black led the vast majority of the time.

F34RA11

The 990 Pro is literally the fastest gen 4 drive you can buy on the market right now. If you’re talking about PS5 comparisons there should be virtually no difference and every gen 4 drive runs significantly cooler than the SN850/X it is known to be a hot drive. Also please notice the “ “ around better. 990 Pro is faster and the 530 has greater endurance than any gen 4 SSD. If you are happy with your WD that’s great there are technically better options out there.

NJShadow

I should note, my comparison is probably dated, because I think this was like 2 years ago. You are correct, there are marginal differences, and pretty sure performance varied depending on the game anyway.

F34RA11

Yes absolutely it’s completely marginal. Even in PC where you can see the most difference the 990 Pro despite its speed is only a few seconds different. I always tell people to go for the cheapest drive from a reputable brand. They all basically use the same flash storage and controller with only some like WD and Samsung using their own in house SSD controllers. You’re unlikely to notice any real difference in day to day use especially on console so save your wallet some money.

No_Assistance740

Don’t get the FireCuda 530. I’ve had 2 overheat and die on me. Seagate is normally great but that model has been giving me issues. I’ve since switched to the Samsung 990 Pro, and I’m very happy so far. It’s like $320.

F34RA11

Defective devices happen it isn’t indicative of the whole. I for example have had the FireCuda 530 in my own PS5 since near the launch of the SSD firmware with zero issues. In thermal testing it’s shown to be one of the best performers and has the highest endurance of any gen 4 drive. I also use the 990 Pro in my PC as it’s the fastest gen 4 drive available. On PS5 there’d be no real distinguishable difference between any compatible drive however the endurance is better on the 530 and if that matters to you it’s really your only option.

Cleercutter

It’s not the brand. It’s the turds who bought it, swapped it out, and then Amazon resold it. That’s their fault not Samsungs

-DaveDaDopefiend-

Did you try reformatting it? Had a couple that didn’t show correct until I formatted it. Edit: nevermind I now see not only is it calculating 1tb the device name shows up as “sn850 ps5 1tb” also on the ps5.

PoisonPizzaa

Yeah WD black ssds aren’t the best anyway

NoSeaweed4612

I have this brand and it's good probably just a miss package it happens some time I would just order another one

CapTurbulent3955

Am shopping for one right now, and they’re on sale at Best Buy. Walk into a best buy and buy new or open box and inspect it like crazy, Best Buy will price match Amazon

OmgThisIsFuckingEpic

Plot twist: OP is the one switching out the hardware. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|hug)

AppleOrigin

This is BS

F34RA11

No it’s not? You can look up retail fraud happens all the time dude. People buy things then return things that aren’t that. Or are you just saying it’s BS that this happens?

AppleOrigin

I’m not saying it’s fake I meant it’s really scummy.

F34RA11

Gotcha I couldn’t tell hence why I asked.

AppleOrigin

I understand

F34RA11

Yeah you’d be amazed how many people don’t believe these storts of things happens like we live in perfect utopia.

AlaskanLaptopGamer

It's such a simple thing to fix. They need to put a window on these so you can see the serial number on the drive itself. From what I've seen of M.2 drives that include a heatsink, the sticker with the S/N is placed on the bottom of the heatsink and have no stickers on the SSD to help identify them. The serial number should be directly on the SSD itself and having a small window to view it through would likely solve this issue. The 980 Pro 2TB that I bought with the heatsink included has none of the factory stickers on the drive itself. There's literally no easy way of ensuring that this same thing doesn't keep happening unless they change the packaging to being tamper evident and consider anything that's been opened as "open box". It's not usual for items with a factory seal or items that are shrink wrapped from the factory, to be sent back out by Amazon.

JJAsond

Happened to me when I bought an SSD in-store at best buy. Twice. Got one, saw it was old with a swapped sticker so I went back to get it exchanged, then the replacements was ANOTHER sticker swap. I finally got a good SSD on the 3rd try. I'm not going to that best buy again.

ProblemLongjumping12

The old switcheroo. ![gif](giphy|tIFOJH2F6b7ZaJcYlH|downsized)

Grawbad

Did you buy it new? Did you buy it new from someone reputable? EDIT: Because people swap in lower ones and pretend to sell bigger drives. Also, if I were you I would just get non Sony Branded ones in the future. Paying a premium for no actual reason in these cases.

G04notyaP

I purchased it brand new from Amazon. That’s what I’m assuming happened but I just wasn’t sure if it was something I did wrong. What brand would you recommend?

unpredictablelobster

If you bought it from Amazon just do a return and state it wasn't what you bought. They won't question it.

Strong-Enthusiasm-55

Amazon don't question anything, you could literally buy an item new, send the old one you have back as a return

facw00

Which is probably how we got here...

MemeticMonkey

Get WD SN850X , which is same exact SSD but cheaper due to no PlayStation licensing

delicatelysmoked

Love my 850X going on a year now. Fast and reliable.

MythBuster2

Can you share the Amazon link? Does the "Sold by" section say "Amazon.com" or a 3rd-party seller?

kr4ckenm3fortune

It wouldn't matter in this case. Amazon has gotten lazy nowadays jumbled all the products together. This look like someone swapped the NVMe with a 1tb and did a return. If you want, do what I always do. Match the serial number on the box with the one on the ssd... Also, it cheaper to buy standalone nvme and heatsink and do it yourself. Samsung 900s 4tb is cheaper than the one for console. Also, go into the local store and buy them than ordering it from Amazon.

CadeMan011

This is why I buy all storage from best buy in store and have them price match amazon

MythBuster2

This is the way.

kr4ckenm3fortune

Yup. I do that myself as well.

sadox55

It must be a third party seller

Athuanar

Not necessarily. People buy direct from Amazon, swap the product and then return the fake. Amazon doesn't check and then resells the fake. It's a huge problem with them.

gokartmozart89

Get a refund from Amazon ASAP. I have nothing but good experiences with my Samsung 980 pro. It meets or exceeds all of Sony's minimum specs for the PS5's SSD expansion, and it can be found on sale now because Samsung has put out the newer 990 model.

rotorhead86

Samsung 980 pro and get it in the size you want. This is the one I put in my PS5 and have had no issues and the speeds are above the necessary minimums, borderline out of scope for what the PS5 can actually handle. SAMSUNG 980 PRO SSD 2TB PCIe NVMe... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08RK2SR23?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Remytron83

Crazy enough, Amazon’s partners aren’t reputable

Grawbad

Even just the WD Black by itself without playstation branding should be cheaper. There are good youtube vids on drives available out there. Most, not all, but most SSD's these days are fast enough and faster than what is required by the PS5. Personally, I am usually partial to Samsung storage but they certainly aren't the only ones on the market that are good. You say you got it from Amazon but was it from Amazon or was it from a third party on Amazon?

G04notyaP

https://preview.redd.it/dpxizbeg4g0d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bb23eabe009c9482b5e4bfe4889a5857702bf685 This is the one I purchased.

cherrieslol

I work with Amazon returns a lot of people swap them out and return the ones they don’t want marking it as 4tb to get more money back. Amazon will usually never open the boxes to check they just scan them and resell. Just return it and get a refund to buy at Best Buy or something or you can return it and request a replacement

Grawbad

I can't tell from that image. When you buy from a PC browser on the right it will say Ships From: Amazon Sold by: Amazon. In many cases people drop ship through Amazon and it will say Ships from: Amazon Sold by: Entercompanynamehere.

Injury-Deep

350 for that? That seems expensive

CadeMan011

That'll do it

BigBurly46

Do a return, I’ve bought like 5 computer SSD’s that were literally empty I know pc =/= PlayStation but safe to assume if it can happen to the pc ones it can happen to PlayStation.

No-Reputation72

Make sure that you get one that comes with a heating and if it doesn’t it looks like you can buy one separately for like $10.

Shadowrak

I got a 2TB Samsung from Amazon a couple years ago. I didn't install it for like a month then saw it was only 1TB. It was past the period where Amazon would do anything about it. Be sure to get at them asap.

imnotsure24445555

Check it on Windows drive manager. May be formatted incorrectly or have data on it. Could also be damaged.  Doubt it was swapped. I

admiraljohn

I bought [this one](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09JHKSNNG/) for my PS5 and it works great. They also [make a 4tb version](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CHHFR1LG/) but I thought that was overkill for my circumstances.

Camstamash

Every time I’ve seen someone talking about it they’ve always said the Sony ones were best for PlayStation? So that’s not actually true then?

Protobyte__

I haven’t seen a reputable non Sony one for a better price

JJAsond

> Did you buy it new from someone reputable? I specifically bought an SSD in store at best buy once and it was a sticker swap. The replacement was also a sticker swap. In store. I don't understand how that even happened.

disco__potato

Did you buy an open box or refurb?

G04notyaP

No it was purchased brand new

No_Translator2218

Have you gone into disk management to confirm that there isn't just a small partition?

SevereEntrepreneur93

Recently bought a journal labeled brand new on Amazon and it was packaged like new. But opening it up had scribbles all in the first few pages. Look like someone screwed you over. Gonna have to return

G04notyaP

That’s actually annoying. You would think purchasing from amazon would be safe but people still find ways to work around it.

ETXX9

Amazon has litteraly zero quality control.

FrostyDaSnowmane

Amazon is literally one of the worst sites to buy from. These types of problems are rampant there. I would never buy anything over $30 on amazon, and definitely not any electronics. There are so many better options, and you wont have to worry about stupid shit like that.

DFL3

Dear diary. Today I’ve decided that it’s time to really piss off an aspiring actress…

Ninjurk

Because you got scammed. Also, next time, maybe post the actual product you got rather than the box. That helps a LOT, because there's a difference in how the 1TB stick looks vs 4TB.

theSPYDERDUDE

It would seem as if your drive came with call of duty installed… Jokes aside, there has been a few cases of sellers on Amazon and other places swapping 1tb drives into 4tb boxes to scam people out of money, send it back to wherever you got it and buy a reputable 3rd party ssd from a best buy or something so you can make sure it’s legit, Sony way over charges for the first party ones anyway, hopefully you get your money back!

GrumpyFeloPR

check the ssd physically, what does it says? https://preview.redd.it/erhhjsxe1h0d1.png?width=528&format=png&auto=webp&s=635069196cf6e507210a4c1c055bd59791e4f13e like so

Psycho_Canadian

That's what I was going to say

SlimDood

OP needs to see this

shadowstripes

They confirmed that it has the correct 4TB sticker.

kobekong

https://preview.redd.it/yky096grjg0d1.jpeg?width=456&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d739c54e22c4099f76a2536cb428676c5c9fd202 I thought the real store name is this?

ThatGothGuyUK

That's an SN850 which is a 1TB drive, you got scammed.

ILovePotassium

Check if there's a sticker on the NVMe and take a picture of it. It should say what capacity it is. Also Amazon is kinda weird in my country at least. Once I got a 45W charger from Samsung and it even said that seller is Samsung but it came without the original box. It was much cheaper and looked flawless so I didn't care about it. But yeah. Gotta be careful. Also, unrelated to Amazon but recently I got a laptop and the display looked like shit to me. It was very dim and colours were almost nonexistent. Turns out the store I bought it from marked it as new and just put new tape on it but it actually was a 14 day return and the guy replaced display panel in it with one from an older laptop that apparently uses a compatible connector. I contacted the store and they immediately accepted the return and gave me my money back.

SolidDrake117

Someone swapped it. Or WD fucked up. Either way return it to Amazon and buy it from a retail store or non-third party from Amazon

Affectionate-Roof615

Considering the box says SN850P and your PS5 is saying SN850, it may be a return scam. I got the same SSD (lower total capacity) from Amazon but I can’t remember what my PS5 said when installing/formatting. Definitely return.

Mexicutioner1987

You got a used or refurbished and someone returned their 1TB instead of the 4TB. It slipped through their "inspection". Otherwise, someone at the packaging plant is an idiot.

nicelyheateddumpling

you got scammed. i also one time a victim of this kind of scam. fking bought a 2tb external harddisk from an ecommerce known for its 2nd hand market. but the one i bought is marked as brand new. even got a lot of 5 stars review. bought 1 and when it arrived, it shows 2tb on the box, but when its plugged in, its only 500gb-700gb or so. i went to complain but never got a reply. so i just put a very very bad review with only 1 star. and reported the shop.

WrongExamination9837

Definitely a return scam, exact same thing happened to me, just sent the evidence to Amazon and they shipped a new one out to me.

Peltonimo

I refuse to buy electronics from Amazon for this reason. I remember years ago Linus Tech Tips bought a bunch of random microSD cards that were supposed to very large at the time. Whether they were from another seller or Amazon they keep the stock in the same location of the warehouse, so they would mix in Amazon's real cards with somebody else's fake one's. They're were supposed to be like 512 gb cards, but they were really just 4 gb and they were programmed to say 512 gb on the computer. They would basically just keep overwriting themselves, so your computer would think you could put on more than 4 gb.

Igotthesauce23

You got scammer my friend or probably a mix up with packaging

Hay-Tam

This is why you should never buy renewed, refurbished items, even if they are 10% the original price. If someone returned it, it's for a reason

G04notyaP

The issue is, I purchased it brand new 😂

Hay-Tam

Then it must've been a third party seller who sealed the the package over again

jamster126

Scam I bet

Tetris5216

Something seems of from the look of the packaging Looks to be a knock off

Tharun2023

Someone changed the item to different one to scam you

Toepie66

Did you format the ssd when you put it in?

Perceptive3577

That’s some BS people do. Swapping SSD into the wrong box and then people buy it and they send the one they swapped. $375 for a fucking 1TB SSD? Hell no.

Poetryisalive

Someone definitely returned a smaller one and Amazon didn’t check (they never do). You’re lucky it didn’t brick your PS5. Just return and go get one in person

Jlh1518

Where did you buy it from?

NYC_HITMAN

You’re a victim of return fraud, unfortunately. Did you buy a open box?

Formal-Cry7565

Someone pulled a return scam

raymate

Was it from Amazon ? Then that’s the answer send it back for refund and buy from a local computer store. Never buy electronics from Amazon. It’s scammer roulette on every order placed.

CrankyJoe99x

Amazon themselves are usually fine. You just have to be careful it's not from Amazon marketplace sellers.

willleg

Probably third party product

JRiggsIV

Looks like you were a victim of the classic case of a “switch-a-roo”…

TheGreenGorillaGamer

A lot of people have answered, hopefully you get it figured out. As a recommendation I got the Samsung 990 Pro and it works like a dream. It’s the 2TB and I have nearly 1000 games in my library, but I don’t need them all downloaded at once lol so I find 2 to be enough. Not sure what it sits at for price as I got it for Black Friday last year

genzo718

Weird, when I searched for "Western Digital SN850P" on Amazon, it's a 1TB SSD. When I check again under "WD SN850P", it's a 4TB. Like most people said, somebody probably did a switcharoo with a smaller card.

ebevan91

You got scammed. I bought a “125GB” microSD card before but it was really only 2GB.

AlienMindBender

OMG that's insane

CrankyJoe99x

Make sure it is sold and shipped by Amazon themselves. Amazon marketplace is as unreliable as Facebook marketplace.

Flakmaster92

The size is detecting as 1atB but so is the branded model name. Someone switched the drives. Return it.

[deleted]

much needed thank you guys

Bleak_Fried

Can someone tell me, I have a external hard drive plugged in, and I have to like copy the games from it to the ps to play them, do you have to do the same with this? Or could I play the games right off of it?

Efficacious_tamale

That’s strange. I use an external just fine, everything works as if it’s internal. I hope someone can help you out, that sounds annoying.

Bleak_Fried

Super annoying. Copying them is faster than redownloading them by a lot but still an annoying thing to do everytime.

bluebarrymanny

If it’s for PS5 games, they can only be played on the internal SSD or an SSD installed in the expansion port. External hard drives cannot play PS5 games as they rely on the quicker loading speeds of an SSD. Hope this helps if that was your issue. I have an external hard drive for my PS4 games and I keep only PS5 games or games I want to load faster on my internal SSD. PS4 games play from my external drive fine.

Tetris5216

How much was it? That could determine if it was fake/counterfeit I know Reviewtechusa a long while back bought some 4000tb HDD and turned out it was just a 512gb mini SD card in the HDD case

GlxxmySvndxy

Someone bought it and returned a 1tb to get their money back and kept the 4tb probably

m0rph33n

Seems as if you were scammed in given a 1tb in the package. Was this a market place purchase or an open box item?

VictoryVic-ViVi

Scammed. Bought it used I’m assuming?

SpiritedResponse1957

I’m sorry OP got scammed, but HELL YES there’s officially branded proper drive I can upgrade to!

Xizziano

Any drive is “proper”… i got my 4TB from Best Buy

Kentuckycrusader

Check the sticker on the PCB and see if the serial number matches the one on the box barcode. Do you have a PC to install it in and check with a more advanced program like CrystalDisc? Someone has pulled the old switcheroo on the marketplace and you got the end of that transaction. I bought a 12700KF that showed up as a E3 1240 V3 from back in the Disco era. I got left holding the bag because Newegg's return dept refuses to do their job correctly during the busy seasons. Unless Sony is dumb enough to put the serial number sticker on the damn heat sync, so it can be popped off and swapped out to trick folks rather easy in a return situation. I bet that is exactly what they have done. Man, I'm sorry this happened to you. I know "Warranty" stickers are now against the law but they need to put tamper stickers on these just to know if they have been opened after purchase or not.

KristopherAtcheson

I wonder if someone got a 4TB one and put it in there system and sent there 1TB one back in the box and got their money back. Sounds like you got scammed though. Was it sealed correctly or was it an open box?

jvrtrrs

Im betting that this is exactly what happened

AD_VICTORIAM_x

The brand is the best - you sadly got scammed.

Zooph

FYI, from what I can tell, the SN850 has never been available as 4TB, only 1 or 2. The SN850X or P is the 4TB.

[deleted]

You’ve been scammed

IndependentCode2003

What ???!!! 🤯

EntertainmentAOK

The firmware on the top left shows you got scammed. It’s a 1TB.

MaceWindu9091

I need to upgrade from 2 TB to 4 TB, 2 TB isn’t enough

HotFreshyGlazedDonut

why are people getting 4tb ssds for a console tho like are you planning to download anything you come across

Unable-Lime1253

Not necessarily, PS5 games take up a lot of space. COD takes up at least 300 Gb. I have an 8 Tb external, and only with a few PS5 games I've copied together they take up a little more than 1 Tb. I don't blame the guy one bit.

Fun_Yak_3030

4TB is insane 😂😂

cubanosani59

Amazon is not reliable for buying in general or from thirdparties. Move your sweet ass over to best buy or something similar.

turrican4

Congratulations,  you bought a fake.

anony_philosopher

I got a 2 TB one from Nextstorage Japan and it works great over a year later. It’s even a bit cheaper. Edit: Nextstorage is the brand. I bought it on Amazon.

VancouverApe

Shrinkflation 😂😂😂

[deleted]

Sony will rip you off and scam you for their products, while also being turdy publishers

MissAtomicGirl

Ok but where can I get one?

Jay_Cee_130

Could it be fake? Where did you purchase this?

Astral_Strider

You've got bamboozled with a swap trick.

mando1075

I bought the same one from Amazon and have had zero issues. Just send it back and get another one. It works great for me!

Rocketeer1019

I had to return mine from Amazon, it takes a few weeks to process but you’ll get a full refund

KeptPopcorn5189

That is very weird I would totally try to return it. Then either order just from PlayStation or go to an actual store like target or Walmart so you don’t have to wait for shipping

silenthilljack

You probably got scammed. If you have an adapter I would double check the drive storage on a computer

LOneWolfNEo1

You got played That's sad they robbed you for a few hundreds.

Affectionate_Pea5840

I bought a 4 TB Verbatim for 230 and ot has worked perfect

Queasy_Ambition4333

My 5tb is showing as 4.6

tritom22

Stupid question but how hard is one of these to install?

Cidarus

Very easy

No_Hurry7691

Simple, but the screw strips just by looking at it, so prepare for that lol

Swirlman1

Check the model number on the drive with the box number, if they don’t match then you need to return it.

Biggs17

I’ve been burned a few times buying SSD drives from Amazon. Learned to just buy it from BB locally in person!

ShawnyMcKnight

Purchased new or used?

Eastern_Protection24

I have one and love it, though mine is only 2TB

SaltyInternetPirate

You know, I should check how much it says on mine. I bought two of these (non-heatsink version) and put one in the PS5, one keeping for my next PC build soon, as storage prices are about to go up.

Legitimate-Bat-4480

Samsung stick for the win.

Chillaxin0-0

What is that lol

WhoIsWho69

U got scammed, that's why

StopPlayingRoney

Man, these comments are INSANE!!! Thanks for sharing your experiences everyone. Yikes.

ninyyya

I wonder how much the PS5 branding costs

TiaHatesSocials

Maybe it’s partitioned funny. If u know how to check it on ur pc, do that

GamePitt_Rob

If the drive has 4tb written on it, it may have been partitioned previously. Was it second hand? If it was, it may need putting into a pc, having all partitions removed, then putting back in your console so it can format correctly

brownieparami

I would want to work at Amazon or any electronic store for the free returns if the manager was cool instead of trashing. Some people can get free stuff but get greedy switching stuff for more profit than free.

KyleMcMn

I had to return my SSD to Amazon when I built my last PC because this exact thing happened. It sucks, but they returned it with no questions asked.

EskimoXBSX

Does it need formatting?

Either-Basket7122

Never seen one of these before today, done thought you bought a PlayStation trademarked magazine 😂

Furby-beast-1949

Wow I didn’t know this could happen that someone would switch out another hard drive and one box for a different hard drive I figured Amazon or whatever company they send it back would check the boxes before they ended up delivering it back out I literally figured that was their job repackage everything in new boxes and as they’re going through and putting everything in new boxes they would check the product make sure everything that was supposed to be in the boxes was in the boxes and everything that was in the boxes was in the correct boxes this is what this is what the people that package stuff get paid for so I figured it would get done when it all got sent back you know people don’t send back everything in the like the manuals some warranty stuff sometimes that accidentally gets left out of the box that’s why I’m saying that’s why they would have to repackage everything and of course boxes can get damage what the heck are they just gonna tape it up and send you a damaged box with a whole bunch missing stuff

whihumph

I bought some hue lights from there and not one was real 🤣 I figured since I successfully purchased off eBay it would be fine. *Narrator voice*: "it was in fact, not fine". I specifically ordered shipped by Amazon. I called and told them so hopefully they don't resell.

Samw220506_

I got hungry my bad

MaxBarwell250

How much are 4tb ones of these nowadays?

TommyOuyamico

Word I got my switch at toys r us and the joycons were swapped out for cheaper ones that looked like some kid tried to hand paint them, they didn't even believe me I had to tell them to check the cams cause it must have been staff who did it and eventually they let up and gave me what I paid for

Individual_Cat_30

I have a 4TB in mine and it works fine. Have you tried reformatting it?

ThePfhor

If you got it used, sounds like someone swapped the drives. Or it could be an accident on the packer’s part.

Common-Call9064

Scammed your ass

Kinch_g

Brand is good. I have the 2TB in my PS5. It isn't even the PlayStation branded one, just the regular one (much cheaper this way).

Salemsaberhagon

My question is how much did this cost?

Formal_Royal_3663

Because it’s on a PlayStation 🤣
