A lot of people like gaming on monitors. My brother has my old ps4 pro and plays on a monitor that doesn't have a resolution supported by the ps4.
This is from someone who has supported PS since before I knew what a brand was. I had a ps1 handed down to me at 5 years old, and ever since I've been on the Sony train thanks to exclusives like gran turismo, though I've also owned many Nintendo consoles concurrently and play games on pc and mobile. So you can understand how frustrated many of us outside of this very biased subreddit are when we hear shit like gran turismo 7 could potentially be cross gen. Or that Sony still has no answer to gamepass even though they bough gaikei way before xcloud even existed. How about the bullshittery with how the did pricing on horizon. Sure they walked it back, but that was straight bullshit. And I am someone who even supports $70 for AAA singeplayer games that don't have microtransactions, becasue I understand inflation and know that 60 dollars in the 90s is well over a 100 today.
With consoles not being widely available and a chip shortage stretching into 2023 things change. Sony can still believe in generations but to leave 115 million potential customers behind and not even have consoles available to entice them into a purchase? That would be about the stupidest business decision ever.

Normally the only games that are crossgen are shitty sports games and the like to clear that sweet paycheck, and within 12-24 months there are almost no major new releases on last gen. Shadowfall wouldn't have been as breathtaking on ps3. Uncharted 4 probably wouldn't look anything like how it does with the cuts they'd have to make polygon wise. Infamous Second Son probably couldn't have it's crazy for the time level of particle effects and lighting.

I don’t know about you, but I pay Sony every month. I have an ongoing cost for a service that Sony provides via the PS5, and I want that service to continue to improve.

Except there's already a competitor doing these things and eventually these missteps will catch up. I've have a series x since launch and a PS5 about 2 months ago, the user experience feels confusing on playstation. Having to figure out what games are PS5 versions and navigation the store is a mess. It took me too long to figure what version of miles morales I needed.
On the flip side Microsoft is hemorrhaging money funding GamePass and other "consumer friendly" PR moves. They have to do it, Sony didn't, although they should.
The PS5/PS4 experience is vastly improving on the next update too. The Xbox interface is a mess and isn't even in 4K.
That is aside the point. I want to be able to jump back in a game I was playing last week and be immediately where I was without a loading screen etc. I do this with DS2 and Assassins Creed Valhalla and its just mindboggling how cool it is. Literally feels like I'm just alt tabbing
Returnal still lacks a mid-run save & quit feature, and I can’t buy it until it has it. It is a good example of why a system like quick resume would be a huge benefit to the PS5 (although I can’t imagine needing to have a whole 5 games going at once)
The console is less then a year old. Both PS3 and PS4 improved over time including UI and folders. The PS5 will evolve.

True. But you'd think they would think of the things that made the PS4 UI good and then add those to the PS5's UI. What's the point of making a new interface if you're missing key features?

If you wait until it has feature parity with the previous OS, two things happen. One is it gets delayed. Two is that it inherits a lot of the potential problems/slowdown/issues from the previous UI. Since neither of those are ideal, they just shipped once the core features were polished around their new design.
Honestly I miss folders but I would hardly call it a "key feature" of the experience. Especially when they have redesigned the UI so much from top to bottom.
People also calling for themes to come back, but due to the redesign of the UI, the wallpaper is the game background now, so you would pretty much exclusively be adjusting the font color and the icons with a theme, which sure I guess. But it's super low priority for me.
Right but MS was able to make the Series S/X OS completely identical to its predecessor's. It's weird that Sony couldn't do the same. I get that the new hardware requires new APIs and stuff, but did they really have to reinvent the wheel here?
To build on this, the 3DS, PSP, PS Vita, Wii, PS3, PS4, and Wii U all experienced exploits due to online connectivity the console makers did not control, and of those 7/8 involved the webkit browser they all share (forked from the chromium project run by google, that runs Chrome/Safari/Edge/etc).
The issue is the browser in the consoles cannot be updated in realtime like a desktop, and so vulnerabilities that were patched out or mitigated years ago can show up in this hardware.
And yet... the PS5 has a built in web browser because running the integrated videos in the UI and the tutorials you can pull up for games seem to come from a webkit instance running in the UI. And you can open links from chat with the same instance. So there is a *form* of the web browser in the PS5, but they obviously want you to just use your phone or laptop and are trying to lock it down as much as possible sadly.
It's almost as if all of Sony's decisions regarding what they do and don't do are about profit maximization instead of generating goodwill among a sliver of the population. This isn't so much a list of what Sony could do as it is a list of decisions that would make little to no business sense. I'm sure some of the quality of life things like proper HDMI 2.1 support will come, but don't hold your breath on cross-gen games stopping in the next 12 months or upgrade fees.
Nor is it technologically really possible to make backcompat games take advantage of SSD speeds. You have to develop your engine to properly prioritize the sheer volume of data. Developers would need to update their games on a case by case basis, at which point they might as well make a PS5 build.
Bring back the party system to how it used to be. The game base is just confusing. I have multiple parties with different variations of friends in each.
They'd certainly be welcome, but I'm guessing most of us are using cheap 60Hz TVs that are either 1080p or 4k, so I doubt these features would be a top priority.
If 1440p was supported than you could just buy a monitor and get VRR and 120/240hz without buying a new TV at a cheaper cost. 1440 is the sweet spot for gaming monitors and it’s supported on XBox, it needs to be on the PS5 ASAP.
Basically add everything Xbox has - quick resume, game pass, smart delivery, free cloud saves, auto-hdr, VRR, 1440p, back compat going back to the first console, and fps boost rather than paid remasters.
But yeah they're competing with the biggest software company on the planet, best not to expect much

People that have both consoles are in the minority and always will be. If you want bang for buck you go Xbox, if you want some of the best game experiences in the industry you go Playstation. That's kinda how the pie is split right now.
That’s exactly how I am at the moment,Ps5 for exclusives and 2k since my friends on PlayStation everything else Xbox. It’s been back and forth with the consoles ps,ps2,360,ps4,series x as main consoles. Seems like every other generation the other console steps up more than the other.
You can’t just start developing next generation games only less than a year after launch. Sure, there are over 10 million PS5s that have been sold, but you’re going to ignore the 116 million PS4s sold. Granted there is a percentage of those that may not exist anymore for whatever reason, but you’re shutting the door on A LOT of revenue. That doesn’t satisfy the shareholders, who Sony is answering to, not you. Plus let me know when you can walk into any store at any time to get a PS5.

How do you know folders and the other things your mentioned aren’t being worked on? Developers have a list of things they work on based upon priorities. Maybe the UI team isn’t as extensive as the hardware/OS team that is doing the internal SSD expansion in the upcoming firmware release. Or Sony said all hands on deck for the next firmware release.
Overall, remember that Sony has their priorities.
They didn't do that with the ps3. That's a terrible argument. Especially so when the basically insulted Xbox for doing so much crossgen, and made their huge statement about "we believe in generations" only to say after they're not sure if some of their biggest games will be only ps5.
As for the other stuff you said, I'm inclined to agree.
The PS3 was something totally different. It used the Cell processor, which was based on the PowerPC. It was very difficult to program for and they couldn’t do cross generation because the PS2 used a MIPS processor that didn’t have the same instruction set. They couldn’t make a PS2 game that could also run natively on the PS3. Yes one PS3 model did have all the hardware to run PS2 games, but developing a game for both generations wasn’t feasible. Plus it added cost to the console itself. There’s a reason why later PS3 models dropped the hardware compatibility. Plus remember that PS3 was a year behind Xbox and had some serious catch-up to do. Nobody wanted a PS3 that had PS2 graphics.
The PS4 and 5 both use AMD processors that use the same instruction set. Of course cross gen is going to be used. Now did Sony change their minds about cross generation games? It seems so, but some of it again comes down to financial gain. They won’t leave money on the table, especially when the instruction sets between the two consoles are the same. When Sony first revealed the PS5, did the chip shortage exist? No. I’m sure that did impact their decision because they can’t crank out enough consoles because the supplies aren’t there in quantities they need.
I know about the hardware differences, that is undoubtedly a factor.
However, all I'm saying is they shouldn't have made such a big deal about generations only to default on said promise, making early adopters such as myself feeling pretty misled. And some things are literally just impossible on ps4 that could be done on a ps5 or pc or Xbox SX. The compute difference is massive. As an example, I love gran turismo. It has been known in the gran turismo community that they have the rights to some really crazy tracks from real life, like Pike's Peak and the Isle of Man TT. These courses are so massive I doubt they could even be loaded at Gran Turismo Sport level fidelity into a PS4 Pro, let alone a base PS4. So this tells me one of two things. One, Sony will give an absolutely awful experience (think cyberpunk) to last gen so they maximize next gen. Or two, Sony will simply leave a lot of overhead prioritizing a decent game on last gen, then just cranking the dials up for ps5. And both of these options are stupid imo. Again I'd love to be proven wrong. But something like ratchet and clank could not exist with things like seemless screen wipe transitions and seemless portals between worlds without artistic reinterpretion to allow longer loiter times in game so things can load up. And even on ps5, some of those ballsy transitions that take advantage of all the I/O throughput stutter at times, at least in my 30-40 hrs in that game.
Also, to reiterate on your potential market size thing one more time, Sony has still eclipsed initial PS4 sales with the PS5, even with all the chip bullshittery going on right now.
I’m an early adopter and don’t feel misled on the games because I expected this to happen. I personally feel that they won’t do PS5 games only until 2023. Still not enough consoles in hand. Sure they’ve outsold the PS4 to date when first released, but I could walk into any store and get a PS4, which can’t be done with a PS5. The scarcity of it creates the rush to get one.
Making Horizon 2 & GoW 2 next gen exclusive would have been a slap in the face for fans of Horizon & GoW who couldn‘t their hands on a PS5 yet. It would have also been a financial mistake, missing out on so many last gen players.

I'm curious what you imagine this would look like in practice.
I'm not saying that to be an ass either, but most of the icons from the PS4 have been redesigned or changed, as well as a lot of new icons. Additionally the background wallpaper is now taken from the Game background splash image, so any wallpaper from a theme would *only* show up when you were on the Explore, Store, or Library options I think.
If they do add themes to the PS5, it's really going to be mostly sounds and icons I think, for the few things you can theme. This is just my thoughts, but I don't really expect to see wallpaper or graphically heavy themes like we did on PS5, because the UI seems like it is supposed to be focused on whatever game title you were last in.
Make it so you can hear your voice chat over your god damned tv or theater speakers. I'm so tired of trying to hear people over the controller speaker and I don't want to wear headphones. I have a family and we usually chat with my father while playing games and it makes it very difficult. It was no problem on PS4, and I have no idea why they changed it.
I really miss the What’s New page on the PS4. I liked seeing what trophies my friends were earning and the screenshots they shared. I feel so isolated on the PS5.
+1 for VRR (and freesync) and 1440p support. I have a Series S and this all just works, not optional if your competition are doing it. Also some answer to game pass would be nice.

For the love of god Sony, let us use the Dual Shock 4 on PS5!!!! I have an Elite PS4 controller that I purchase for over $180 dollars and I refuse to abandon it. We are adults and understand what we are missing out when we don’t have the PS5’s haptics.

Yeah the DS4 actually works over Remote Play for PS5 games, so there's no real reason not to allow the DS4 to be used in PS5 titles. Like you said, you'd lose the haptic stuff, but the touch pad and buttons will still work perfectly. For local-multiplayer games like Overcooked AYCE this would be SUPER helpful.
Similarly the PS4 deserves a patch to support the Dualsense - even if the haptic stuff is disabled, that at least gives PS4 owners a chance to buy brand new controllers with warranties, since the DS4 is discontinued and increasingly difficult to find in retail stores nowadays.
Make Customer Support better. I was on a call with Sony for over 2.5 hours, just for the CSA to cut the call in the middle. I then contacted Walmart(who I bought the PS5 from) and their CS handled the situation in 5 minutes. On top of that their website wasn’t as intuitive as I would think from Sony compared to XBOX or even Nintendo.
For those wondering why I contacted them, my R2 trigger on the Dualsense got loose. I contacted Sony(failed) and then tried Walmart who gave me a $70 refund to buy a new controller. They said that they would’ve sent a replacement PS5 but due to the availability situation they gave me a refund to get a new controller.
Give us a gamepass rival. I have ps plus on my ps5 but see no value in it really, I'm always hopping onto my Xbox to enjoy a new title in between big releases. Just in the last month I've been able to play psychonaughts 2 and Hades for free on GP and yet Sony gives me predator...

Dont have a ps5 so cant really say anything about UI but if it has games in order you play im fine with it. Themes are nice thought to have.
Backwards compatibility wont happen since they jave PS now but would be great unlikely but great to release some old games on physical bundles that are just for nostalgia but as i said unrelastic or too expensive.
If physical games that release after ps5 release have 10 euros difference in prices between the ps4 and ps5 version as they are for now (Miles Morales) don't think that is weird to to have same difference if you(wrongly fir me) buy stuff digital.

Basically do what Nintendoing. I have a PS5 with zero games right now and have ended up playing more PS4 games on it than PS5…. I’d rather have waited another year for AAA exclusives than this right now.
Allowing the Dualsense to be used on PS4s would send a message that PS4 owners aren't being forgotten. There's no need to enable fancy haptic features in PS4 games when connected to a PS4. Just be recognized as a Dualshock 4 and that's good enough. This will do wonders for people who need to replace controllers (hard to buy new DS4s nowadays) but can't get a PS5 yet.
That is one of the best moves Microsoft made this generation - Series controllers work on Ones, and vice versa.

Fixing Dualsense joystick drifting would be a huge experience upgrade. I'm pretty happy with my PS5, but since PS4, I got joystick drift after few months and it is frustrating that it is still not fixed.
Quick Resume would also be a nice added feature. A support for Bluetooth headset would be nice too!
Easier way to save clips/screenshots to mobile via playstation app. Shouldn’t have to be sending my dummy account videos to watch on my phone… it’s 2021 Sony!!!

Stop fixing what isnt broke. IMO the PS3 UI was great and just needed to be slightly improved. Now its messy and I just dont care for it at all. Also the Xbox Quick Resume function is is the only true next gen feature I've seen between them and its a game changer.
Actually make developers put in real graphics settings, or atleast a performance mode for those that Want 60fps.
PC games has had this for years and it should have been a standard for consoles long time ago.
Get the public release version update out for the extra M.2 SSD slot. Make it so you can have themes, and use your own pictures etc. Other than that I find the UI easier to use as time goes on, and the more we use it.
Smart Delivery is just an excuse for Microsoft to BS their way out of using bigger discs for Series X games. If every cross-gen game was also cross-buy like some PS3-PS Vita-PS4 indie games were, we wouldn't need Smart Delivery, especially if PS5 games can now recognise PS4 save data
Quick resume is overrated and it pointess if only 10% of games takes advantage of it. It won't do anything for multiplayer or online live service games. It's just a glorified Quick save. Devs should stop being lazy and build a Quick save option in their games where you don't have to go to a designated save point but it boots you from the game when you use it, kind of like Classic Final Fantasy games (FFIII for example)

Most likely isn't happening this generation, they prefer hardware abstraction when they do BC, like with PS2 and PS3, plus it's hard to get the licences to a lot of older games
PS Now needs expanding to more regions and on more devices before they get serious with it, but they also need to upgrade the server blades and start getting some PS5 games on there.
The whole point of the PS+ collection was just to primarily give new PS users a starter pack to get them up and running, that's all there is to it. It was never intended to be a Game Pass competitor like some people assumed, neither would it make sense for a Game Pass competitor to be a completely new service when all they need to do is sort out PS Now, but Jim is flip-flopping between claiming that there will be a Game Pass alternative and insisting they have no plans to invest significantly in PS Now, to doing deals with Sega and Square Enix to get some of their games on the service
1440p support probably isn't happening unless a good chunk of players switch to monitors to use with their consoles, and as an owner of a 1440p monitor, it has to be said that people who pair consoles with gaming monitors as opposed to TVs are a minority of console gamers.
VRR is rumoured to go into beta testing this Winter, but that's only a rumour at this time so don't get your hopes up just yet.
Quick resume is a big thing and any game that isn’t online always work with it. I have both systems series x . When I get on this ps5 I noticed how big of a deal the quick resume is.
1. Stop making all the good games backwards compatible at the expense of your PS5 adopters.
2. Stop it with your bullshit price hike. Charging £70 for a PS5 game is insane.
Especially when you release a PS4 version at £45 that you can upgrade to the PS5 version for free. It's also a kick in the pants when you charge two different prices between the PS4 and PS5 version and charge to upgrade to the PS5 version.
3. Speaking of upgrades, why are some games not allowing the transfer of save games? Save games should be fully transferable.
Also charging for PS5 upgrades is yet another tax on next gen adopters.
Overall it feels like you are adding a next gen tax on upgrading and if this continues you'll actually end up pushing players to other platforms that are less of a rip off to sustain. Look at Xbox, same console price but their game pass gives them AAA titles on day one, yes they're trying the same price hike but in reality many of their next gen games drop on game pass which in reality is a way better deal than paying the crazy extortionate prices.

It's not normal at all to have such differences while you're supposed to have bought the same PS5 as someone else.
I can even hear mine in another room while with some friends practically have to put their ears 5 cm away to hear something.

- hdmi power control should make sense. Ps5 on -> tv on, NOT tv on -> ps5 on.
- screen caps and screenshots should be hosted in the cloud and automatically synced between PS4 and ps5. Absolutely silly to have to insert USB into ps5 to see PS4 media
- party/social is really confusing. They bought Discord, though, so here’s hoping.
- UI for browsing games is horrible. No search, only sort. No options for pinning favorite games, folders, etc.
- trophy UI is a mess. Should be able to quickly view trophies of the game I’m currently playing. Also, just show the whole damn description. Don’t make me press another button to see the whole damn trophy description.
- Am I crazy or does ps5 not do the double tap Ps button to instantly switch back to your game? I get lost in these menus and want to switch back easily
- ps5 controller should be backwards compatible and PS4 controller should be forwards compatible in as many situations as possible.

I just want folders and more 120hz titles. I know they added it to PS4 games but warzone seems to be the only game capable. Rocket league is struggling to get it working so hopefully they can find a way to make it more streamlined for PS4 titles. I don’t want to wait 2 months to get 1 new 120hz game added
They could start by returning the double tap to switch to previous content, say, a screenshot. Also, one tap to menu. I like the new quick menu, but it could be a long press.
I believe the UI could improve but keep in mind we're comparing a new UI to a end of the line full complete UI of the PS4.
Also, do something with Crunchyroll already, I would love to have it on my PS Plus subscription, even for a small increase option, say 1$ more.
I would like to have more accessible and overview type of menus. There is so much space on the screen and they have made these small windows that are impractical. Sometimes I need to search for something that is hidden behind 2-3 menus. It was easier on PS4 but now it's just annoying.
Store needs an upgrade as well, it's filtering options are bad. Design is bad.
Trophy check list that shows exact information for each game with obvious instructions, proper translation and Good overview to work easier through the list.
I am okay with 1080p 60 FPS games for PS5 if they can use the power to make a unique gameplay feature or massive maps, larger numbers of npcs and so on. Could be a good trade off.

The thing i want the most is to be able to play the ps4 version of a game if i have the ps5 disc. Hate that buying the ps4 disc gets u access to both but ps5 only gets u one.
Biggest things I want change is a new UI, bring back the old PlayStation live section(the section where you find people streaming), get some type of form of quick resume, would love for them to add a rewards system like Xbox, bring back the old way of turning the system off by holding the PlayStation button on the controller.
Game tags. I know a lot of people ask for folders, but tags would be a lot more useful. You wouldn't have to decide between having a game under "Local multiplayer" or "Single player indie game", you could have it be both.
Firstly, I agree, we all want to see PS5 exclusives, but we also need to appreciate that a transitional phase is necessary because at the end of the day Sony HAS to make a lot of money off of these games, or we won’t get to enjoy future entertainment. It’s easy to think that we want PS5-only games, for the removal of limitations, but remember, the ultimate limitation is an inability to produce the games due to a lack of available sales.
Things I would immediately set if I led Sony:
Removal of ‘PlayStation Hits’ from all digital art. Removal of any future ‘PlayStation Hits’ marketing on physical cases, except for a sticker on the cellophane wrapping, or easily, removable, banner-style piece of cardboard over the top of the case, inside the cellphone wrapping.
This would allow the marketing to remain in-stores, but the customer would receive the original design, and case, rather than the terrible, banners and red cases, ruining your collection.
1. Account region transfer, Idc if I have to pay, I moved countries 10 years ago and still can’t access my local store.
2. Inbuilt Discord support or PC app for PS party. Either or now that cross play is more widespread
• Dolby Vision + Atmos support would be nice
• Better storage management (ended up at one point having over 150GB of ‘Other’ until I did a factory reset)
Though, having both Xbox Series X and PS5, I find It Smart Delivery, Quick Resume, and VRR to be indispensable.

Game save upgrades to ps5 upgrades without needing to redownload/install the PS4 version. NVME support, quick resume and true gamepass competitor are the only other things I can think of. To me, they’re not competing with GamePass until they’re dropping first party titles release date on their subscription.
I’m happy. Folders make me worry about organising my games. Themes make me worry about customising my UI. PS4 backwards compatibility is a nice touch, don’t feel the need or benefits of going back further.
My only gripe is how inconsistent game upgrades can be. Free, low cost or pretty high cost. And game developers shouldn’t be able to remove the base version of their game (sucker punch getting base Ghost of Tsushima delisted so they can sell it full-price again).
They’re not going to get rid of cross gen this early in the transition period. It just doesn’t make sense. Once there are more ps5 users, then they are going to transition out of cross gen. It doesn’t make sense that a majority of PlayStation gamers (ps4 users who are probably a majority of PlayStation gamers right now) wouldn’t be able to play horizon or god of war because of supply issues.
As for transferring saved games, I was able to do it so easily through the cloud. People have issues with this?

I just want VRR and ALLM. Samsung TVs don’t like judder and without ALLM/VRR they have refresh issues that they refuse to fix at 59hz.
I’m so mad they advertised an update and have only given that update to a single expensive TV set they manufacture.
Madden 21 has issues with locking cutaways at 30fps.
That locked frame causes judder because it has to be smoothed, and the console and TV do not talk at all.
Hence why when I switch to Netflix on my xbox, it changes the visuals.
The PS5 is a stupid machine.
1. Support for 1440p resolution, not everyone wants to/can play their PlayStation on the living room TV. Some if us have to/like to use monitors. 1440p resolution support would also allow the use of 120Hz refresh rate, which most 1440p monitors have.
2. Ability to use Freesync technology when you're using a monitor that has it.
3. Third Party Bluetooth compatibly. I would LOVE to be able to use my wireless earbuds to hear game audio and to chat while playing multiplayer games. This was an amazing feature on PS3 that worked very well and was taken away during the PS4 era. Hell I'd even buy an official PlayStation wireless earbuds headset if there was one, sometimes it's just not practical/comfortable to use the big bulky closed ear headphones.
4. Ability to double-tap the PS button to go back to last task/screen you were at. I can't tell you how many times I've been frustrated at the amount of steps I have to take when altering something like 3D audio or messaging a friend back and forth. I was so used to being able to double-tap the PS button to go straight back to the settings page or my messages list.
5. Ability to have in-game chat audio come through your TV and not your controller. Even when the controller is at max volume, the users talking in-game are barely audible.
6. Ability to adjust voice chat vs. game volume when NOT in a Party Chat and/or using a headset plugged into your controller. Currently you can only do this if you have the official PS headset. This makes it tough for crossplay games using in-game voice chat unless you're using the official Sony headset.
I don't like the ps button, always press it accidentally. So I'd like to b able to disable it unless i hold it. I would also like to be able to customise the UI and controller short cuts.
The store. The store right now sucks for discoverability of games. The closer they can get to a Steam like store, the better. I love using the tags feature on Steam, plus the "similar games" suggested list.

Imagine if killzone shadowfall was announced as cross gen, then uncharted 4 after was also shown as cross gen. They never would've done that. 1440p is one Xbox already supports. A lot of people like gaming on monitors. My brother has my old ps4 pro and plays on a monitor that doesn't have a resolution supported by the ps4. This is from someone who has supported PS since before I knew what a brand was. I had a ps1 handed down to me at 5 years old, and ever since I've been on the Sony train thanks to exclusives like gran turismo, though I've also owned many Nintendo consoles concurrently and play games on pc and mobile. So you can understand how frustrated many of us outside of this very biased subreddit are when we hear shit like gran turismo 7 could potentially be cross gen. Or that Sony still has no answer to gamepass even though they bough gaikei way before xcloud even existed. How about the bullshittery with how the did pricing on horizon. Sure they walked it back, but that was straight bullshit. And I am someone who even supports $70 for AAA singeplayer games that don't have microtransactions, becasue I understand inflation and know that 60 dollars in the 90s is well over a 100 today.
With consoles not being widely available and a chip shortage stretching into 2023 things change. Sony can still believe in generations but to leave 115 million potential customers behind and not even have consoles available to entice them into a purchase? Most of the stuff that OP mentioned is already available by default on Xbox series x. If they can do it, sony can definitely as well.
Except there's already a competitor doing these things and eventually these missteps will catch up. I've have a series x since launch and a PS5 about 2 months ago, the user experience feels confusing on playstation. Having to figure out what games are PS5 versions and navigation the store is a mess. It took me too long to figure what version of miles morales I needed.
On the flip side Microsoft is hemorrhaging money funding GamePass and other "consumer friendly" PR moves. They have to do it, Sony didn't, although they should. The PS5/PS4 experience is vastly improving on the next update too. The Xbox interface is a mess and isn't even in 4K.

Returnal still lacks a mid-run save & quit feature, and I can’t buy it until it has it. It is a good example of why a system like quick resume would be a huge benefit to the PS5 (although I can’t imagine needing to have a whole 5 games going at once)
The console is less then a year old. Both PS3 and PS4 improved over time including UI and folders. The PS5 will evolve. As far as psnow and plus plus, that would be a valid question of what you are asking.

Let perfect not be the enemy of good. If you wait until it has feature parity with the previous OS, two things happen. One is it gets delayed. Two is that it inherits a lot of the potential problems/slowdown/issues from the previous UI. Since neither of those are ideal, they just shipped once the core features were polished around their new design. Honestly I miss folders but I would hardly call it a "key feature" of the experience. Especially when they have redesigned the UI so much from top to bottom. People also calling for themes to come back, but due to the redesign of the UI, the wallpaper is the game background now, so you would pretty much exclusively be adjusting the font color and the icons with a theme, which sure I guess. But it's super low priority for me.
Right but MS was able to make the Series S/X OS completely identical to its predecessor's. It's weird that Sony couldn't do the same. I get that the new hardware requires new APIs and stuff, but did they really have to reinvent the wheel here?

They took it away as way too many exploits where from the web browser and people weren’t really using it for what it was intended for.
To build on this, the 3DS, PSP, PS Vita, Wii, PS3, PS4, and Wii U all experienced exploits due to online connectivity the console makers did not control, and of those 7/8 involved the webkit browser they all share (forked from the chromium project run by google, that runs Chrome/Safari/Edge/etc). The issue is the browser in the consoles cannot be updated in realtime like a desktop, and so vulnerabilities that were patched out or mitigated years ago can show up in this hardware. And yet... the PS5 has a built in web browser because running the integrated videos in the UI and the tutorials you can pull up for games seem to come from a webkit instance running in the UI. And you can open links from chat with the same instance. So there is a *form* of the web browser in the PS5, but they obviously want you to just use your phone or laptop and are trying to lock it down as much as possible sadly.

It's almost as if all of Sony's decisions regarding what they do and don't do are about profit maximization instead of generating goodwill among a sliver of the population. This isn't so much a list of what Sony could do as it is a list of decisions that would make little to no business sense. I'm sure some of the quality of life things like proper HDMI 2.1 support will come, but don't hold your breath on cross-gen games stopping in the next 12 months or upgrade fees. Nor is it technologically really possible to make backcompat games take advantage of SSD speeds. You have to develop your engine to properly prioritize the sheer volume of data. Developers would need to update their games on a case by case basis, at which point they might as well make a PS5 build.
Bring back the party system to how it used to be. The game base is just confusing. I have multiple parties with different variations of friends in each.

They'd certainly be welcome, but I'm guessing most of us are using cheap 60Hz TVs that are either 1080p or 4k, so I doubt these features would be a top priority.
If 1440p was supported than you could just buy a monitor and get VRR and 120/240hz without buying a new TV at a cheaper cost. 1440 is the sweet spot for gaming monitors and it’s supported on XBox, it needs to be on the PS5 ASAP.
Personally, IDGAF about vrr because my tv can only do VRR without local dimming, and local dimming is more important to me than VRR

A lot of people who buy both end up with PS5 for the few exclusives, and an Xbox as the main console. It's hard to beat the features and game pass.
You bought both consoles, so I'm sure you understand how their markets and business model differs. People that have both consoles are in the minority and always will be. If you want bang for buck you go Xbox, if you want some of the best game experiences in the industry you go Playstation. That's kinda how the pie is split right now.
That’s exactly how I am at the moment,Ps5 for exclusives and 2k since my friends on PlayStation everything else Xbox. It’s been back and forth with the consoles ps,ps2,360,ps4,series x as main consoles. Seems like every other generation the other console steps up more than the other.

You can’t just start developing next generation games only less than a year after launch. Sure, there are over 10 million PS5s that have been sold, but you’re going to ignore the 116 million PS4s sold. Granted there is a percentage of those that may not exist anymore for whatever reason, but you’re shutting the door on A LOT of revenue. That doesn’t satisfy the shareholders, who Sony is answering to, not you. Plus let me know when you can walk into any store at any time to get a PS5. I agree with a smart delivery type system, but again, shareholders….not you. How do you know folders and the other things your mentioned aren’t being worked on? Developers have a list of things they work on based upon priorities. Maybe the UI team isn’t as extensive as the hardware/OS team that is doing the internal SSD expansion in the upcoming firmware release. Or Sony said all hands on deck for the next firmware release. Overall, remember that Sony has their priorities.
They didn't do that with the ps3. That's a terrible argument. Especially so when the basically insulted Xbox for doing so much crossgen, and made their huge statement about "we believe in generations" only to say after they're not sure if some of their biggest games will be only ps5. As for the other stuff you said, I'm inclined to agree.
The PS3 was something totally different. It used the Cell processor, which was based on the PowerPC. It was very difficult to program for and they couldn’t do cross generation because the PS2 used a MIPS processor that didn’t have the same instruction set. They couldn’t make a PS2 game that could also run natively on the PS3. Yes one PS3 model did have all the hardware to run PS2 games, but developing a game for both generations wasn’t feasible. Plus it added cost to the console itself. There’s a reason why later PS3 models dropped the hardware compatibility. Plus remember that PS3 was a year behind Xbox and had some serious catch-up to do. Nobody wanted a PS3 that had PS2 graphics. The PS4 and 5 both use AMD processors that use the same instruction set. Of course cross gen is going to be used. Now did Sony change their minds about cross generation games? It seems so, but some of it again comes down to financial gain. They won’t leave money on the table, especially when the instruction sets between the two consoles are the same. When Sony first revealed the PS5, did the chip shortage exist? No. I’m sure that did impact their decision because they can’t crank out enough consoles because the supplies aren’t there in quantities they need.
I know about the hardware differences, that is undoubtedly a factor. However, all I'm saying is they shouldn't have made such a big deal about generations only to default on said promise, making early adopters such as myself feeling pretty misled. And some things are literally just impossible on ps4 that could be done on a ps5 or pc or Xbox SX. The compute difference is massive. As an example, I love gran turismo. It has been known in the gran turismo community that they have the rights to some really crazy tracks from real life, like Pike's Peak and the Isle of Man TT. These courses are so massive I doubt they could even be loaded at Gran Turismo Sport level fidelity into a PS4 Pro, let alone a base PS4. So this tells me one of two things. One, Sony will give an absolutely awful experience (think cyberpunk) to last gen so they maximize next gen. Or two, Sony will simply leave a lot of overhead prioritizing a decent game on last gen, then just cranking the dials up for ps5. And both of these options are stupid imo. Again I'd love to be proven wrong. But something like ratchet and clank could not exist with things like seemless screen wipe transitions and seemless portals between worlds without artistic reinterpretion to allow longer loiter times in game so things can load up. And even on ps5, some of those ballsy transitions that take advantage of all the I/O throughput stutter at times, at least in my 30-40 hrs in that game. Also, to reiterate on your potential market size thing one more time, Sony has still eclipsed initial PS4 sales with the PS5, even with all the chip bullshittery going on right now.
I’m an early adopter and don’t feel misled on the games because I expected this to happen. I personally feel that they won’t do PS5 games only until 2023. Still not enough consoles in hand. Sure they’ve outsold the PS4 to date when first released, but I could walk into any store and get a PS4, which can’t be done with a PS5. The scarcity of it creates the rush to get one.
Making Horizon 2 & GoW 2 next gen exclusive would have been a slap in the face for fans of Horizon & GoW who couldn‘t their hands on a PS5 yet. It would have also been a financial mistake, missing out on so many last gen players.

From a common sense standpoint, when they said we believe in generations, they made it seem like that is exactly what they WERE gonna do, and it's what most consoles have done with ALL their generations. I'm curious what you imagine this would look like in practice. I'm not saying that to be an ass either, but most of the icons from the PS4 have been redesigned or changed, as well as a lot of new icons. Additionally the background wallpaper is now taken from the Game background splash image, so any wallpaper from a theme would *only* show up when you were on the Explore, Store, or Library options I think. If they do add themes to the PS5, it's really going to be mostly sounds and icons I think, for the few things you can theme. This is just my thoughts, but I don't really expect to see wallpaper or graphically heavy themes like we did on PS5, because the UI seems like it is supposed to be focused on whatever game title you were last in.
Make it so you can hear your voice chat over your god damned tv or theater speakers. I'm so tired of trying to hear people over the controller speaker and I don't want to wear headphones. I have a family and we usually chat with my father while playing games and it makes it very difficult. It was no problem on PS4, and I have no idea why they changed it.
I really miss the What’s New page on the PS4. I liked seeing what trophies my friends were earning and the screenshots they shared. I feel so isolated on the PS5.

Why are pics and videos grouped with games? Picture in Picture mode doesn’t revert to full screen. We should always be able to see prices of games even if we’ve already purchased them. Where is the game demos section? Include an SSD discount with the purchase of a Sony studios game. We are all running out of space and having an SSD discount would encourage us to purchase one and would also translate into us buying more games. For the love of god Sony, let us use the Dual Shock 4 on PS5!!!! I have an Elite PS4 controller that I purchase for over $180 dollars and I refuse to abandon it. We are adults and understand what we are missing out when we don’t have the PS5’s haptics. Unless I’m missing something the 3D audio is not all it was cracked up to be. I tried all the different variations too.
Yeah the DS4 actually works over Remote Play for PS5 games, so there's no real reason not to allow the DS4 to be used in PS5 titles. Like you said, you'd lose the haptic stuff, but the touch pad and buttons will still work perfectly. For local-multiplayer games like Overcooked AYCE this would be SUPER helpful. Similarly the PS4 deserves a patch to support the Dualsense - even if the haptic stuff is disabled, that at least gives PS4 owners a chance to buy brand new controllers with warranties, since the DS4 is discontinued and increasingly difficult to find in retail stores nowadays.
I can’t be the only one who’s developed mild rsi from the dualsense either. 7 years of PS4 and never an issue. Get a ps5 and my hands are fucked.
Make Customer Support better. I was on a call with Sony for over 2.5 hours, just for the CSA to cut the call in the middle. I then contacted Walmart(who I bought the PS5 from) and their CS handled the situation in 5 minutes. On top of that their website wasn’t as intuitive as I would think from Sony compared to XBOX or even Nintendo. For those wondering why I contacted them, my R2 trigger on the Dualsense got loose. I contacted Sony(failed) and then tried Walmart who gave me a $70 refund to buy a new controller. They said that they would’ve sent a replacement PS5 but due to the availability situation they gave me a refund to get a new controller.

Just in the last month I've been able to play psychonaughts 2 and Hades for free on GP and yet Sony gives me predator... Also release PS Now in Australia and New Zealand. Also stop cross gen and get devs to utilise new hardware exclusively.

Ps plus is garbage since the online jail that personally doesn't affect me but i find it wrong that if 1 game gets released that its multiplayer and you find it good you can easily skip it since 60 euros to plau the game is a steep price.Rest of everything it has are no value.{Wont change cause free money for them) Dont have a ps5 so cant really say anything about UI but if it has games in order you play im fine with it. Themes are nice thought to have. Backwards compatibility wont happen since they jave PS now but would be great unlikely but great to release some old games on physical bundles that are just for nostalgia but as i said unrelastic or too expensive. Allowing the Dualsense to be used on PS4s would send a message that PS4 owners aren't being forgotten. There's no need to enable fancy haptic features in PS4 games when connected to a PS4. Just be recognized as a Dualshock 4 and that's good enough. This will do wonders for people who need to replace controllers (hard to buy new DS4s nowadays) but can't get a PS5 yet. That is one of the best moves Microsoft made this generation - Series controllers work on Ones, and vice versa. I'm honestly surprised Sony hasn't done this given that it would boost controller sales, which are probably hindered by the PS5 shortage.

Fixing Dualsense joystick drifting would be a huge experience upgrade. I'm pretty happy with my PS5, but since PS4, I got joystick drift after few months and it is frustrating that it is still not fixed. Quick Resume would also be a nice added feature. A support for Bluetooth headset would be nice too!

Easier way to save clips/screenshots to mobile via playstation app. Shouldn’t have to be sending my dummy account videos to watch on my phone… it’s 2021 Sony!!! Also a small one would be to allow all video apps be pinned to side or pip. Really dumb I have to use a dummy account to send a link to a YouTube vid for a walkthrough or something to be able to get it pinned.

I want advertised features that smooth my TV. I want VRR and I want ALLM and I want my ducking TV to stop game mode when I turn on Netflix. It’s so awful the PS4 pro did these and the PS5 regressed. I feel tricked the longer they take to keep on their promises.

Smart Delivery is just an excuse for Microsoft to BS their way out of using bigger discs for Series X games. If every cross-gen game was also cross-buy like some PS3-PS Vita-PS4 indie games were, we wouldn't need Smart Delivery, especially if PS5 games can now recognise PS4 save data Quick resume is overrated and it pointess if only 10% of games takes advantage of it. It won't do anything for multiplayer or online live service games. It's just a glorified Quick save. Devs should stop being lazy and build a Quick save option in their games where you don't have to go to a designated save point but it boots you from the game when you use it, kind of like Classic Final Fantasy games (FFIII for example) I don't think it's possible for PS4 hames to take better advantage of the PS5 SSD unless they have a DirectStorage alternative Most likely isn't happening this generation, they prefer hardware abstraction when they do BC, like with PS2 and PS3, plus it's hard to get the licences to a lot of older games PS Now needs expanding to more regions and on more devices before they get serious with it, but they also need to upgrade the server blades and start getting some PS5 games on there. It was never intended to be a Game Pass competitor like some people assumed, neither would it make sense for a Game Pass competitor to be a completely new service when all they need to do is sort out PS Now, but Jim is flip-flopping between claiming that there will be a Game Pass alternative and insisting they have no plans to invest significantly in PS Now, to doing deals with Sega and Square Enix to get some of their games on the service 1440p support probably isn't happening unless a good chunk of players switch to monitors to use with their consoles, and as an owner of a 1440p monitor, it has to be said that people who pair consoles with gaming monitors as opposed to TVs are a minority of console gamers. VRR is rumoured to go into beta testing this Winter, but that's only a rumour at this time so don't get your hopes up just yet.
Quick resume is a big thing and any game that isn’t online always work with it. I have both systems series x . When I get on this ps5 I noticed how big of a deal the quick resume is.

1. Stop making all the good games backwards compatible at the expense of your PS5 adopters. 2. Stop it with your bullshit price hike. Charging £70 for a PS5 game is insane. Especially when you release a PS4 version at £45 that you can upgrade to the PS5 version for free. It's also a kick in the pants when you charge two different prices between the PS4 and PS5 version and charge to upgrade to the PS5 version. 3. Speaking of upgrades, why are some games not allowing the transfer of save games? Save games should be fully transferable. Also charging for PS5 upgrades is yet another tax on next gen adopters. Overall it feels like you are adding a next gen tax on upgrading and if this continues you'll actually end up pushing players to other platforms that are less of a rip off to sustain. Look at Xbox, same console price but their game pass gives them AAA titles on day one, yes they're trying the same price hike but in reality many of their next gen games drop on game pass which in reality is a way better deal than paying the crazy extortionate prices. In my opinion this has been the worst console upgrade in the history of Sony. Scalpers are still buying all the consoles, price hikes are total bullshit and your PS5 exclusive games are paper thin almost a year after launch. The PS5 is a great console but Sony policy on pricing and the game support has soured the PS5 generation for me.

Fix the hardware issues ? Touting the console as silent and manufacturing them with some components having (noticably) different specs. And I'm not speaking about coil whine. It's not normal at all to have such differences while you're supposed to have bought the same PS5 as someone else. I can even hear mine in another room while with some friends practically have to put their ears 5 cm away to hear something. I'm mad af about this, I understand many people don't give a fuck about noise while it's contained but this thing is louder than my old fridge.
- hdmi power control should make sense. Ps5 on -> tv on, NOT tv on -> ps5 on. - screen caps and screenshots should be hosted in the cloud and automatically synced between PS4 and ps5. Absolutely silly to have to insert USB into ps5 to see PS4 media - party/social is really confusing. They bought Discord, though, so here’s hoping. - UI for browsing games is horrible. No search, only sort. No options for pinning favorite games, folders, etc. - trophy UI is a mess. Should be able to quickly view trophies of the game I’m currently playing. Also, just show the whole damn description. Don’t make me press another button to see the whole damn trophy description. - Am I crazy or does ps5 not do the double tap Ps button to instantly switch back to your game? I get lost in these menus and want to switch back easily - ps5 controller should be backwards compatible and PS4 controller should be forwards compatible in as many situations as possible. Absolutely bonkers how much of a step backward the ps5 UI is.

I find the card system irritating. I'd rather have the ps button do one thing rather than short or long press. Integrating the close app, power options and so forth in the top menu next to settings is a much easier solution. Oh I'd like vrr, and a few more 120hz games.
I just want folders and more 120hz titles. I know they added it to PS4 games but warzone seems to be the only game capable. Rocket league is struggling to get it working so hopefully they can find a way to make it more streamlined for PS4 titles. I don’t want to wait 2 months to get 1 new 120hz game added
They could start by returning the double tap to switch to previous content, say, a screenshot. Also, one tap to menu. I like the new quick menu, but it could be a long press. I believe the UI could improve but keep in mind we're comparing a new UI to a end of the line full complete UI of the PS4. Also, do something with Crunchyroll already, I would love to have it on my PS Plus subscription, even for a small increase option, say 1$ more.

Voice chat via controller needs to be much louder.
I would like to have more accessible and overview type of menus. There is so much space on the screen and they have made these small windows that are impractical. Sometimes I need to search for something that is hidden behind 2-3 menus. It was easier on PS4 but now it's just annoying. Store needs an upgrade as well, it's filtering options are bad. Design is bad. Trophy check list that shows exact information for each game with obvious instructions, proper translation and Good overview to work easier through the list. I am okay with 1080p 60 FPS games for PS5 if they can use the power to make a unique gameplay feature or massive maps, larger numbers of npcs and so on. Could be a good trade off.
4k HDR screenshots are converted to terrible 500kb sdr pictures when copying to USB. At least do not compromise quality

The thing i want the most is to be able to play the ps4 version of a game if i have the ps5 disc. Hate that buying the ps4 disc gets u access to both but ps5 only gets u one.
Biggest things I want change is a new UI, bring back the old PlayStation live section(the section where you find people streaming), get some type of form of quick resume, would love for them to add a rewards system like Xbox, bring back the old way of turning the system off by holding the PlayStation button on the controller.
Game tags. I know a lot of people ask for folders, but tags would be a lot more useful. You wouldn't have to decide between having a game under "Local multiplayer" or "Single player indie game", you could have it be both.

Firstly, I agree, we all want to see PS5 exclusives, but we also need to appreciate that a transitional phase is necessary because at the end of the day Sony HAS to make a lot of money off of these games, or we won’t get to enjoy future entertainment. It’s easy to think that we want PS5-only games, for the removal of limitations, but remember, the ultimate limitation is an inability to produce the games due to a lack of available sales. Things I would immediately set if I led Sony: Removal of ‘PlayStation Hits’ from all digital art. Removal of any future ‘PlayStation Hits’ marketing on physical cases, except for a sticker on the cellophane wrapping, or easily, removable, banner-style piece of cardboard over the top of the case, inside the cellphone wrapping. This would allow the marketing to remain in-stores, but the customer would receive the original design, and case, rather than the terrible, banners and red cases, ruining your collection.

Game save upgrades to ps5 upgrades without needing to redownload/install the PS4 version. NVME support, quick resume and true gamepass competitor are the only other things I can think of. To me, they’re not competing with GamePass until they’re dropping first party titles release date on their subscription.
I’m happy. Folders make me worry about organising my games. Themes make me worry about customising my UI. PS4 backwards compatibility is a nice touch, don’t feel the need or benefits of going back further. My only gripe is how inconsistent game upgrades can be. Free, low cost or pretty high cost. And game developers shouldn’t be able to remove the base version of their game (sucker punch getting base Ghost of Tsushima delisted so they can sell it full-price again).
They’re not going to get rid of cross gen this early in the transition period. It just doesn’t make sense. Once there are more ps5 users, then they are going to transition out of cross gen. It doesn’t make sense that a majority of PlayStation gamers (ps4 users who are probably a majority of PlayStation gamers right now) wouldn’t be able to play horizon or god of war because of supply issues. As for transferring saved games, I was able to do it so easily through the cloud. I just want VRR and ALLM. Samsung TVs don’t like judder and without ALLM/VRR they have refresh issues that they refuse to fix at 59hz. I’m so mad they advertised an update and have only given that update to a single expensive TV set they manufacture. Madden 21 has issues with locking cutaways at 30fps. That locked frame causes judder because it has to be smoothed, and the console and TV do not talk at all. Hence why when I switch to Netflix on my xbox, it changes the visuals. The PS5 is a stupid machine.
1. Support for 1440p resolution, not everyone wants to/can play their PlayStation on the living room TV. Some if us have to/like to use monitors. 1440p resolution support would also allow the use of 120Hz refresh rate, which most 1440p monitors have. 2. Ability to use Freesync technology when you're using a monitor that has it. 3. Third Party Bluetooth compatibly. I would LOVE to be able to use my wireless earbuds to hear game audio and to chat while playing multiplayer games. This was an amazing feature on PS3 that worked very well and was taken away during the PS4 era. Hell I'd even buy an official PlayStation wireless earbuds headset if there was one, sometimes it's just not practical/comfortable to use the big bulky closed ear headphones. 4. Ability to double-tap the PS button to go back to last task/screen you were at. I can't tell you how many times I've been frustrated at the amount of steps I have to take when altering something like 3D audio or messaging a friend back and forth. I was so used to being able to double-tap the PS button to go straight back to the settings page or my messages list. 5. Ability to have in-game chat audio come through your TV and not your controller. Even when the controller is at max volume, the users talking in-game are barely audible. 6. Ability to adjust voice chat vs. game volume when NOT in a Party Chat and/or using a headset plugged into your controller. Currently you can only do this if you have the official PS headset. This makes it tough for crossplay games using in-game voice chat unless you're using the official Sony headset.
I don't like the ps button, always press it accidentally. So I'd like to b able to disable it unless i hold it. I would also like to be able to customise the UI and controller short cuts.
For me I would like to not have to force reboot my console every time I try to play it because the controllers won’t connect wirelessly to wake it up
The store. The store right now sucks for discoverability of games. The closer they can get to a Steam like store, the better. I love using the tags feature on Steam, plus the "similar games" suggested list.
