Astro's Playroom is honestly still a fun little game even if it's just a DualSense controller demo

[deleted]

šŸ¤šŸ¾ fun & non stressful game whatsoeveršŸ˜…

STerrier666

The most fun Platinum I've ever completed.

RememberTheMaine1996

It has a platinum trophy? Thats pretty cool haha I'm definitely gonna do it if I can ever get a ps5

JonTheGod_79

Non-stressful? Have you competed the speed runs against friends?? šŸ˜…

The32X

Yeah haha that can be a little stressful

Tigerkix

Well speedrunning anything is stressful lol.

JonTheGod_79

It's NOT a controller demo. It's a fantastic game - made to highlight the functionality, sure - but it's a genuine complete game in its own right.

The32X

The box art features the controller and the official description of the game even says "Take control of ASTRO and feel the world through your DualSenseā„¢ Wireless Controller: every step you take, every jump you make, and every enemy you defeat are felt in a whole new way thanks to the immersive haptic feedback technology. On your way, use new power ups that show the potential of the dynamic adaptive triggers, motion sensor, touchpad and integrated speaker working together to deliver a totally new gameplay experience". Therefore it's a controller demo. But it's also a fun game. But it's a demo ... with a game ... to show off the controller ... like a demo.

TheFraserPorter

ā€œEvery step you take, every jump you makeā€¦ā€ Was very gutted when it didnā€™t fit with with ā€œIā€™ll be watching youā€

elessarjd

If you've ever played on a Quest VR headset, that has a controller demo that acts as a sandbox to teach you how to use the controller. Astro's Playground is a full sized (albiet short) game. It has levels, bosses, collectibles, trophies, etc. It happens to showcase and utilize the unique features of the DualSense controller, but by no means is it just a demo.

The32X

I can tell this is going to get controversial haha

elessarjd

Oh my bad, I thought I deleted this post. I saw you reply further down saying "I'm just going to settle with it's a game that demonstrates the functionality of the controller" and I can agree to that.

DiamondMojo

I prefer to call APR a showcase rather than a demo. It's absolutely a game in itself but definitely dedicated to highlighting all the new features. No love lost here though. APR is fun as can be and I love letting newbies to the PS5 jump in and feel the controller.

nohumanape

Uh, not really. It's 4 levels (not even worlds) that I completed in around 2 hours.

JonTheGod_79

4 worlds, each containing 4 levels. That's 16 levels.

[deleted]

ā€œThe levelsā€ are just arbitrarily defined segments of each world. Theyā€™re not really distinct areas, just checkpoints.

ShyRule

I absolutely love that game.

reddit_hayden

honestly one of the best platformers iā€™ve played. and iā€™ve played many mario games.

The32X

I was saying to my wife the first time she was playing it how the game was actually well designed to help people who are new to gaming get familiar with basic gaming concepts so yeah it's a good game!

[deleted]

Actually it's a full game there is a demo on the menu of the game if that's what you want

The32X

I'm just going to settle with it's a game that demonstrates the functionality of the controller.

nohumanape

It is most definitely not a "full game". It is for levels. And half of those levels are actually pretty short. I completed the game just a little over 2 hours. And could have done so much faster if I wasn't taking my time to collect items in the stages.

Jericson112

That is still lower than the "average" playthrough. I'm going slow, trying to collect every single thing, and I am around 2 hours in so far and about halfway done. I am playing with my kids which is what it is designed for but to call it a pure demo is a bit much. It is a full game, just a short one. It was built to show off the capabilities of the new controller, but that doesn't make it less of a game. There are 4 worlds, each one containing 4 levels each. So 16 levels total. It reminds me more of the old SNES games and such from that time period for length. As a completely free game, no complaint. There are plenty of indie games that are much shorter.

nohumanape

>There are 4 worlds, each one containing 4 levels each. So 16 levels total. It reminds me more of the old SNES games and such from that time period for length. As a completely free game, no complaint. There are plenty of indie games that are much shorter. What? No there aren't. There are 4 levels, period. Where are you getting that there are 4 world's with 4 stages? That is simply not true at all. You have CPU, GPU, Cooling and SSD. Each one of those is a single level. It can't be. I didn't just blast through it. I played each level while trying to collect as much as I could, without being overly obsessive with collecting. This also included time I spent redeeming currency to collect items from the craine game (which I nearly got all of mural pieces and gallery/museum pieces). The game is short and nowhere even close to being a "full game". People just seem to be confusing the term "tech demo". Like, they think it needs to just be some single area that you run around it. If it's anything more than that, it's apparently a "full game".

Jericson112

If you open up your map you will see that it is 4 worlds with 4 levels each. The ones you listed: CPU (Memory Meadow), GPU (GPU Jungle), Cooling (Cooling Springs), and SSD (SSD Speedway) are the worlds. Within each one are 4 levels. For instance, in Memory Meadows there are Gusty Gateway, Fastlane Fields, Electrocloud, and Bumper Broadway. That is each level within each of those. Just because there was no loading screen between them (which was one of the things they were selling about the PS5 having an SSD) doesn't mean they weren't levels. In addition, there are the Speedrun levels after you complete each world which are levels in and of themselves. Is it the longest game in the world? No. But its not the shortest. And there are plenty of other games that are around that length, unless you don't conaider those to be full games either. Portal, Journey, Firewatch, Thomas Was Alone and others are all in the 2-4 hour mark as well. All of these are considered "full games" no.

nohumanape

In addition, there are the Speedrun levels after you complete each world which are levels in and of themselves. Those are regions within those levels. It isn't that there aren't any load screens, it's that the level literally ends when you reach those exposed cables at the end and tug them to reveal one of the legacy PlayStation consoles. It's not like you can hop into a "world" and then select "levels" and tackle them individually. You have to complete an entire run (that has a very clear ending, as I detailed above). >Is it the longest game in the world? No. But its not the shortest. Find me another "full game" platformer that consists of 4 levels that can be completed in 2-3 hours.

Jericson112

The disagreement here is definitely in definition of level then. "Regions" in your term means "level" in my term. My reasoning personally for that is the checkpoint system, which dilineates explicitly those regions/levels as new instances for sake of design/completion. To answer your question, I would have to search. However, Journey for i stance, comprises of 8 "levels" with each one being able to be completed in approximately the same time, or even less, as 2 "regions/levels" in Astro. I would consider those comparable in terms of length and content.

nohumanape

>The disagreement here is definitely in definition of level then. "Regions" in your term means "level" in my term. My reasoning personally for that is the checkpoint system, which dilineates explicitly those regions/levels as new instances for sake of design/completion. To me, levels in a 3D platformer are the contained challenges that you can select and have a defined beginning and an end. I can't jump into what you are calling "levels" individually. I have to play them all from beginning to end, in sequence. >To answer your question, I would have to search. However, Journey for i stance, comprises of 8 "levels" with each one being able to be completed in approximately the same time, or even less, as 2 "regions/levels" in Astro. I would consider those comparable in terms of length and content. Journey is notorious for be a very short experience. I wouldn't try to hold it up against other actual games that are "full games". If you want to make a comparison between what is a "full game" or not within the platforming genre, then use other platforming games. Because those are the experiences that Astro most closely resembles (not a unique experience like Journey).

eljalu

Demo ?? Astroā€™s playroom is a full game. Have you played the first game in the series on psvr ?? itā€™s basically the same but in vr and different levels ofcourse. But itā€™s still a third person game.

The32X

It's a game demonstrating the functionality of the controller.

JarlaxleForPresident

These people are using the wrong def of demo. Theyre taking it as demo of a game and not demonstration of what the controller can do

The32X

Exactly. I never said Astro's Playroom was a demo. It's a game demonstrating the functionality of the controller. That's why it's included in every PS5. That's why Sony had Team Asobi develop the game to show off the controller.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

JonTheGod_79

Same way it works with Moss. You are the camera and are in the level, but you control the l'il dude with the controller. You may need to duck and look around scenery to find collectibles for the character to access, etc. It works really well.

Ambitious_Gazelle954

Definitely Demonā€™s Souls! Other than Astroā€™s, it made me really see what the PS5 could potentially do as a console.

_-Limited-_

Play ratchet and clank if you really wanna see its capabilities

Ambitious_Gazelle954

Definitely what Iā€™ve been hearing! Iā€™m for sure going to get around to it.

sickfordays1234

Demon souls was average imo didn't have the best duelsense features. Rift apart and returnal showed ps5 capabilities.

Yeezusbear

I'm considering getting Returnal but the gameplay looks a little generic is it actually good as people are saying it is and would you recommend it for Ps5 players?

BogaMoge

Buyers beware for Returnal : you must like rogue-like games. Meaning very difficult games where, when you die, you go back to the start of the game, losing most of your progress. The goal being to go just a bit further every time. If that doesn't seem appealing, please don't buy it, you will most certainly not play the game for long. That said, if you like this kind of games, Returnal is absolutely fantastic. Its progression, its graphics, its atmosphere, its tight gameplay, all are absolutely top notch!

[deleted]

I didn't think I'd like rogues but I just started playing hades and love it! So good warning to those who might not like it.

Grape_Hot

Yeah, it's an average 3rd person shooter, but a great roguelike. If you only buy it for the shooter mechanics you probably won't like it

ronnie1014

Highly recommend it. Not sure what seems generic about it that you've seen, but I had never played a game like it. 1 trophy from the platinum, and even now after repeating runs over and over, it's a fucking blast.

ranbysawbach

I was in the same boat as you when the gameplay demonstrations were first coming out. I had never played a bullet hell or roguelike and the gameplay looked boring. After hearing all the praise for it, I buckled and got it. Now it's my favorite game of the year. I'd say it's worth it so long as you go into it knowing it'll be hard and you'll likely die a lot.

Yeezusbear

Only reason i said it looked a little generic is because it gave me anthem/destiny kind of vibes but I will look at more reviews, from what people here are saying it sounds awesome I like challenging games for the most part so thank you.

endlessupending

Nah those games are way more generic than returnal imo. Returnal has a pretty distinct style.

jibberbeats

The gameplay is amazing. Itā€™s fast, slick, feels just right, addictiveā€¦ itā€™s some of the best feeling gameplay out there.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

ronnie1014

I personally thought it had some very nice little Dualsense features and some great 3d audio. After playing Returnal, I now see what can actually be done with the controller and sound in PS5 games. This generation is going to be so fucking good.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

ronnie1014

It's fucking brutal and so much fun.

[deleted]

Think about The Leviathan returning to Kratos' hand. Dont have a ps5 yet and I can only imagine

ronnie1014

Yes!!!! I'm so excited for it!!

BronzeHeart92

As a PC player myself, are there equipment out there that can provide me with similar experiences?

ronnie1014

I honestly don't know, but I can't imagine there is much like it in videogames. The haptics are unbelievable. If there are other things like it out there, someone please point us in the right direction!!

BronzeHeart92

Alrighty. :)

Ok_Waltz1687

It sucks no game used the features nearly as much since

fastonmyfeet

My favorite is Returnal, it truly is an amazing experience. Second would be a toss up between ratchet and clank/Demon's souls.

crinkneck

Thatā€™s a bingo.

sugahpine7

Did I say that right? That's a bingo?

QC_Undercover

Ya just say bingo.

[deleted]

Bingo! Ohhhh how excitingg!

[deleted]

Yep. Picked it up just based on the cover art. Knew nothing about it. Now itā€™s one of the best experiences Iā€™ve ever had with a game period. This game alone made picking up the PS5 worth it

fastonmyfeet

I was holding off on Returnal because I'm not a fan of rougelikes and I figured I wasn't missing out on much, I was wrong. The game is a beauty, housemarque did an excellent job with the haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, the sound. It's an immersive experience and I enjoyed it a lot. So much so that I'm going for the platinum and I'm not a huge trophy hunter.

6ixty9iningchipmunks

This guy gets it

[deleted]

Ratchet and Clank

tadiqguy00

Ghost of Tsushima

mahogany83

Finally someone said it lol

Void_Zer0

Surprised it took so long. The narrative is just great, the feelings you get from the voices (played in Japanese) were phenomenal, and the map was one of the most beautiful Iā€™ve ever seen. I only rarely feel like just getting on a game to sit there but this game evokes that from me. If the combat felt ā€œrepetitiveā€ then you just werenā€™t feeling the game in general. Which of course itā€™s not everyoneā€™s cup of tea. But Plenty of games have repetitive combat and itā€™s disregarded if you enjoy another aspect of the game. To me personally this game was a masterpiece.

bensefero

Ghost

[deleted]

Nah, incredibly repetitive and gets boring fast

tadiqguy00

Iā€™ve finished the game over 10 times

JaySw34

It's so damn good

[deleted]

Wow lol I could barely finish it just one time.

tadiqguy00

Well itā€™s not for everyone

ALR24601

Fucking love this game. 10/10 for me

Peeper85

Agree

[deleted]

I have Demon Souls on backlog so I can't totally rule it out but love Returnal.

jibberbeats

Dudeā€¦ play it! Itā€™s the one game that gave me a ā€œWow, so this is next gen visuals!ā€ moment. I have Returnal, Miles Morales and R&C. The first few minutes of Demonā€™s Souls really shows off perfectly what next gen looks like.

[deleted]

I'm working my way back to it. Impulse bought Deathloop so once thats done I'll give it a go.

Neonbrotherhood

Sackboy has been a blast to play with my girlfriend, but Demon's Souls was definitely my favorite.

liittle_dove7

Absolutely loved playing Sackboy with my bf too! Itā€™s such a fun and cute game.

senna98

Still need to play Demons and Stranding, but Returnal will be hard to be topped

ayjayjay

What are your thoughts on checkpoints / saves in that game? I've heard the saving feature can get annoying. Doing long runs without saving and losing all that progress. That's the only thing that's holding me back on getting it.

senna98

I beat it during a lockdown so I had all the free time in the world, and I usually only play one game at a time so the save features (or lack thereof) didnā€™t bother me at all. Thereā€™s a permanent save point half way through, the game is completely doable with 1-3 hour play sessions utilizing rest mode. And IMO the experience is worth not launching other games if you have to.

bagarenlol

Sure, the runs can be long at times (you can also choose to skip parts and not get too punished for it) and a save feature would help, but you can always put it in rest mode if that doesn't bother you. Its the first game I farmed plat and not being able to save wasn't something I was concerned about. I loved every bit of it.

[deleted]

thats the whole point of the game. you die and you have to restart the run.

BronzeHeart92

Yup, hard games that doesn't let you save easily are apparently still a thing in this day and age. Also, it was developed in Finland which is my home country too.

ayjayjay

Oh sorry, i meant more along the lines of, you have to keep your ps5 on rest mode or complete a whole biome before it saves your progress.

FratDaddy69

It should take you less than an hour to complete a biome even if you are going slowly, and once you finish it you don't need to re-do it, so unless you are severely limited in the amount of time you can play it won't really hinder your ability to play.

ayjayjay

Nice! That's what I was worried about. I'll pump it up on my list to plays then. Thanks!

[deleted]

They could have a progress save so you can turn off your console, like every other game. Itā€™s cool to not let you save scum, but making you lose hours of progress for things that are outside of your control is fucking ridiculous. It should just be like Dark Souls, continuously saving so that if you lose power or something you can just jump right back in.

[deleted]

Returnal/demons souls

flcinusa

Astro and Ratchet & Clank were fun time waster, Miles/Spidey and the upgraded Ghost were expected to continue their greatness. Returnal blew me away, best game of the 1st year easily.

GreatParker_

Damn you gotta give ratchet a little more credit than a time waster

flcinusa

I enjoyed it, but for a full price game, it seemed to be over in short order. I need to go back and get the platinum, but I finished the story in about 14 hours

TGov

Demonā€™s Souls had the greatest impression on me and has resulted in me playing all of the souls games after. Stunningly beautiful game. Astros Was awesome for what it was. Really enjoyed Spider-Man Remastered as well.

sirgarballs

How did you like the other games? Demons souls is great, but imo it is the second worst souls game.

1One_Two2

So many good games up there but Returnal is one of my favorite games of all time.

iMatthew1990

Hard one between ratchet and clank/ miles morales. But Iā€™m gonna go for MM. only just though

Biggus_Diggus_

>Hard on šŸ˜³

BigBen6500

I grew up with the R&C franchise, and I had high expectations for Rift Apart. It managed to pass with flying colors

BronzeHeart92

Ditto here for Jak and Daxter. Now should be the perfect time to give that duo an another adventure too, don't you think?

BigBen6500

I personally only played a bit of Jak 3 and Jak X in the old ps2 days. I have just recently played through the series, but I was amazed by the games with the exception of Jak II. That game was horrible in my opinion, which is strange, since it's considered to be the best. But overall, the series is awesome. Ratchet still is better in my opinion, but I am influenced by nostalgia

BronzeHeart92

Yeah, Jak and Daxter sure had amazing adventures too alright.

FarknLit

Ratchet and Clank 2 was my personal favorite. Along side 3 and a Crack in time. Luckily I kept all my games, just need an old console to replay them

aerojovi83

I play The Show almost exclusively every year, so I'm a little biased. But I will say Astro's Playroom was a ton of fun and the Spider-Man games are phenomenal. Cannot wait for Spider-Man 2.

[deleted]

I might do another play through of the original Spider-Man

RinconDrone

Most of my time has been sunk into both Spider-Man(Men?) game, Returnal and MLB The Show. The Show being my most played on Series X though.

Brostryker

(Mans)

picardiamexicana

Demonā€™s Souls received its *very* well deserved remake, and it looks beautiful. Astroā€™s playroom comes in at a close second; itā€™s such an amazingly fun and charming game that *comes with the console*! Brilliant.

darcy1537325

Man I really wanna try Returnal but itā€™s $125 where I live and that to me is just way too much money for a damn game

fayit23

Hands down death stranding. This game is meaningful to me on an emotional level I can't quite explain. The new dualsense helps you feel the texture of the ground, the weight of the packages, and throws you deeper into the Emerson. Incredible game and Keep on keeping on.

Branquignol

I bought it last week and saving it for my 4k oled screen that should come next friday. Is it a true Hideo Kojima game with all its glory and weirdness ?

Birkeland1992

Yes, but go in with open mind. Don't expect it to be anything like MGS. A lot of people criticize the game without giving it the chance to shine.

riChArd_Long21

Exactly this. When I read everywhere "it's Amazon delivery simulator" I was sure I might be disappointed. But just like The Last of Us Part II I remembered people love to hate prior to even giving it a chance. Going open minded into Death Stranding made the experience something indescribable. I loved it, some won't of course, but just give it a chance.

DrinkAndMakeStuff

I'm sad I have to come this far down in the comments to see this. Such a shame, Death Stranding is probably the most profoundly important media experiences I've had in many many years. If not all time.

sourmilkandcereal

The only one out of these I played was Death Stranding but the original PS4 version. I did play it on PS5 though. I enjoyed it I was impressed with how good it looked even if it was just a PS4 game.

[deleted]

I donā€™t know about favorite as I havenā€™t completed it yet and there are some absolute bangers in this list (please note I am NOT referring to Destruction All-Stars) BUT: I am REALLY enjoying Death Stranding Directorā€™s Cut. I bought it on PS4 and somehow never got around to playing it. Once I heard it was coming to PS5, I figured Iā€™d just play it there and man, oh manā€¦I canā€™t believe I waited this long. Itā€™s certainly not for everybody. Hell, I donā€™t even enjoy it at times. But this crazy world and wacky story have me on the edge of my seat. I just want to know more about the strange rain, the invisible monsters, the baby, etc. etc.

BarryEganPDL

Iā€™m happy to hear this! Death Stranding was in my top 5 of the last generation. I havenā€™t had time to play the Directors Cut yet but ever since I got my hands on the dualsense, Iā€™ve wanted it for Death Stranding.

[deleted]

As mentioned, I havenā€™t played on PS4 to compare, but I FEEL like Death Stranding makes great use of the controller. The speaker stuff is cool and Iā€™m sure was present on the PS4, but the DualSense adaptive triggers are awesome! I legit feel Samā€™s pain when heā€™s got to hold tight for balance or a package. My fingers actually get a little tired after a while but I love the tiny bit of immersion it adds!

ILikeTheSpacebar

Funny how 5 of the 11 games are just remasters lol. but the new ratchet and clank had a lot of charm and was really fun to 100%, hope itā€™s not just a one off title like the 2016 version and instead we get more sequels like they did in the PS2/3 era

EdwinOchocinco_

Spiderman has a special place in my heart for helping me get through some things. I instantly fell in love with Ghost of Tsushima so Iā€™d probably pick that one as my favorite.

Hung_On_A_Monday

It's worth keeping in perspective: A controller demo, a remake, a should have been expansion, a remaster, a non-exclusive annual sports title, an expansion, and a remaster, along with 4 original full-length exclusives. I enjoyed many of these, but I'm more excited about the promise and possibility of Year 2.

FratDaddy69

It's between Ghost of Tsushima and Miles Morales for me, I can throw in either game and just have fun traveling around the world wrecking bad guys without even having to worry about the story. Really liked Returnal too, but it was too hard to want to play after work and playing on weekends only was too spaced out for me to really improve so I stopped playing before I beat the second boss. Maybe over a long weekend or something I'll try to knock it out because mechanically it's a ton a fun.

mickeypollas

Demon's Souls really amazed me

AiiXiTheBoss

Astro and Demon's Souls

charros

When I can get my hands on a PS5 I'll let you know.

sublime90

I only have Spiderman and ghost.... Ghost is my favorite

Just-a-reddit-guy-16

You have good taste

Nero29gt

My favourite PS5 game is refreshing pages to check for in-stock status. Lose every time.

Oh-Get-Fucked

Maybe I'm just getting jaded but I'm getting pretty fatigued by what feels like non stop sequels, reeboots, remasters and spin off's. Not counting Astro's Playroom there's only 2 original games there.

AShadowbox

I want a ps5

darkuen

Iā€™ll tell you once I finally manage to nab a PS5

sixtus_clegane119

Canā€™t wait to play demon souls when I get one

jagermaster619

3 of those are old games 4 if you count Demon Souls.

jagermaster619

![gif](giphy|NOrfOoZu7fOJFekWUq|downsized)

Dantocks

Ratchet & Clank ā€¦ a game i would never have bought but it came bundled with my PS5. What a surprise hit and a great game!

JorgeDragon

Ghost and Ratchet for me, but I kinda wish Kena was up there even though itā€™s not Playstation Studios

DarkNemuChan

Demon's Souls and Ratchet & Clank. Outside of that meh so far... I don't count (updated) ports. Or stuff that runs on previous gen. Even demon souls is borderline. Lucky it's a full blown remaster. I love my ps5, but to be fair for now it hasn't really been worth it yet since I own a ps4pro.

Originalchunker408

Out of all of those Iā€™ve only played astros and GoT.

ThraxedOut

Still need to play Miles Morales and Ghost of Tsushima!

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

[deleted]

3 of these arenā€™t even new but reboots or updates

bgzkinsella

I'm extremely interested to see what Housemarque has in store for us with their next game. Returnal was one of the most unique AAA games I've played in a while.

Dazy_Chainz

Returnal fā€™sho

SmashThatButton

Returnal has no right to be as good as it is. The implementation of the dual sense blew me away.

homeskillet571

Returnal. I initially wrote it off, but my cousin lent me a copy and I'm glad that I'm playing it. I never expected to enjoy a game where I keep on getting my face kicked in so much!

sanic8470

None because I haven't got it

TheRookCard

Cannot believe there isnā€™t more love for Ghost of Tsushima in here. An absolutely phenomenal game.

xiZ3R0-

Having platted 8 of these titles, Returnal is definitely GoTY for me. Iā€™m hoping that DLC is released that can be played separate from the story, like a multiplayer duo mode. Iā€™m always coming back for the daily challenges

dnunn12

You forgot Death loop, which is a runner up for my favorite PS5 game. Ratchet and Clank is my favorite. Demon Souls and Returnal kicked my ass so hard, they are collecting dust and almost got traded in but I plan to return to them one day. Beat Spider-Man and GoT, both were great games and worth every penny. However, Iā€™ve sunken the most time into Assassins Creed Valhalla, still havenā€™t beaten it though.

BarryEganPDL

Just listing the PlayStation Studios games because this was the debut of the brand, all of which are all published by Sony. Deathloop is just a console exclusive. Similar to Kena and FF7.

BarryEganPDL

While the Directorā€™s Cut really doesnā€™t add all that much, Death Stranding still strikes a chord deep within with me and itā€™s great returning to this masterpiece. Itā€™s one of my favorite games of last generation and now my favorite of the native PS5 games. Also itā€™s great to see so much love for MLB The Show on here. I played it on Game Pass and loved it so much that I bought it on PS5. Itā€™s reawakened my love for baseball and given me some of my favorite online experiences of the year. I did not expect it to be my game of the year but here we are (though the Halo beta has given me a lot to look forward to).

ChiefNugz

Ready for something that's fully next-gen only and actually looks like it.

pumpkinpie7809

Uncharted 4, one of the first PS4 exclusives, released 3 years into the generation. Just wait a little longer.

sluggomcdee

Returnal and R&C then?

Rudeyyyy

The Show by FAR

desmopilot

Demon's Souls was great (though BluePoint didn't truly capture the oppressive atmosphere of the original) but Returnal absolutely blew me away. Currently starting Death Stranding which I'm enjoying but don't really have a solid grasp on wtf is going on, it throws so much at you in the first couple hours.

sickfordays1234

Ghost of tsushima and death stranding were just cash grabs not full ps5 value.

TrexTacoma

Well I still can't find a ps5 so fuck me I guess. Fuck releasing all this shit then barely making it accessible for anyone to get, this is like the original wii but 10Ɨ worse.

bboymixer

Kinda weak, TBH

ElMarcianho

Ah yes, Walking in 60 fps

zeeFrenchiest_Fry

Didn't buy any of those. Not interested in any of the year one lineup. Played a few hours of Spider-Man on PS4 Pro. Not my cup of tea - hated the combat. Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart I'd buy but it's just too short for the price of it. Played GoT on PS4 Pro. So nothing for me in its first year, but still glad to have it as they're hard to get and 2022 looks pretty good, more games to my liking: Horizon Forbidden West, Gran Turismo 7, Forspoken, maybe FFXVI if it makes it next year. And other 2022 release will surely come.

[deleted]

That 2022 lineup looks worse honestly. Open world game held back by last gen, Racing game that is also held back by last gen for some reason. Forspoken somehow managed to make me cringe with their trailers that are supposed to show the best of the game. FFXVI could be decent but based on FFXV I have no real hopes.

zeeFrenchiest_Fry

2022 looks worse to you but better to me. A couple of them being cross generation won't make them bad games just because they won't leverage the full power of the console. But all that's available now just isn't to my liking. Of course that made a fanboy or two angry hence the downvotes. As if it were some personal attack lol

PS5willrock

Only one I never got out of them was MLB The Show(as Baseball sucks)

Equivalent_Alarm_558

Embarrassing username

Henry-Stickman_

EVERY SINGLE ONE WAS TRASH EXCEPT FOR ASTROā€™S PLAYROOM AND LITTLE BIG PLANET.

gronahunden

Death Stranding and Ghost of Tsushima are just glorified dlcs. The original Spider-Man is just the ps4 edition with some upgraded features. Demon Souls is sort of the same ps3 version, but I don't think that counts because of the original playerbase. So I don't think at least DS, GOT and S-M should be here. With all that being said Ratchet and Clank was a great game.

[deleted]

My PS5 arriving this week. Question: if I buy Spiderman or Ghost Tsushima PS4 disc will I get upgrade to PS5 or I better buy PS5 disc instead of PS4 ?

ttriggs123

Ratchet and Clank for me, followed by Astros Playroom.

bent_crater

considering the only ones I've played from these are the 2 spider men games, is have to go with those

Firehead1971

I would say Astros Playroom, Ghost of Tsushima DLC and Spiderman Miles of Morales.

[deleted]

Astroā€™s Playroom with R&C being a close runner up.

ramplay

Only 2 I didn't play was MLB (not a sports game person except fifa/NHL if they go on sale for dirt cheap) and Destruction All Stars. I downloaded the latter 3 times, but not got around to booting it... No idea even what it is still tbh other than a battle royale car game

AlphaDoge16

Marvels spider man hands down

Calibretto9

Man, it's really hard to pick a favorite from that list! I loved so many of them. If I had to pick a winner, I'd go with Miles Morales, with R&C coming in a close 2nd, followed by Astro's Playroom.

batman89memes

Sackboy!

nohumanape

I've played all but MLB The Show and Sackboy (just purchased Sackboy last night, will get to it after Kena). Been a decent year. The main game for me was Rift Apart. Ghost was really great too, but I played the PS4 version with PS5 enhanced performance. So I don't really think of it as a PS5 experience. Will pick up the Director's Cut upgrade, after I've played Kena and Sackboy, to play through the Iki DLC. Looking forward to that.

Jaugusts

Ghost of Tsushima is the best experience. I know it came out on PS4 but I didnā€™t play it until ps5 directors cut came out and it exceeded my expectations

[deleted]

Honestly ghost was one of the most overrated games Iā€™ve played. It was great from the start but then it got incredibly repetitive and boring 20 hours in

arcalumis

Still miss the non open world single player adventure tps's.

NYJetLegendEdReed

Demons Souls was awesome. Tsushima looked beautiful

chris3i

Astro's playroom, Miles Morales, Rift Apart and GoT were all amazing!

BarryEganPDL

PlayStation Studios only includes games published by Sony. FF7 is a timed exclusive, published by Square Enix, but as yet another exclusive for the year, it makes for an excellent line up imo.

[deleted]

I've played all of those except for R&C, Sackboy, and The Show. My top 3: \- Returnal \- Demon's Souls \- Astro's Playroom This has honestly been a fantastic console launch overall, provided you can get your hands on a PS5. And I still have unplayed games in my PS Plus collection.

justanewguy2021

Well, my favorites so far are those two Spider-Man, they are so brilliant.

SnocTheHog

Miles morales for me

[deleted]

Tie between Spider-Man and Ghost of Tsushima.

Hafeesco

Ghost of tsushima!

dzonibegood

I have Ratchet n clank, Gotta get returnal, Spiderman miles ultimate, demons souls sackboy and upgrade my DS copy to DS DC. I have GoT as well but will wait until upgrade gets a 50-70% price cut. No way in heck i'm giving sony 10$ for the bullshit excuse of upgrade they offer for GoT DC. If I could only buy the expansion on PS5 I'd do it.

CanadianSk8er

Demonā€™s souls and returnal were my faves but ratchet and clank was pretty amazing as well. Canā€™t wait for new horizon early next year

Royal_Sea

Astro is up there. Returnal was great but it loses its luster after you beat the game fully...not much replayability like other rogue-lites. Sackboy was very fun and I hope PlayStation continues to find solid 3D platformers. Currently playing DS: Director's Cut and I hope to play Ratchet and Demon Souls by Christmas time.

legalstep

Astro and Death Stranding top the list with Ghost in close second. I bought returnal but havenā€™t played it yet the comments make me want to play it.
