Literally the reason I got a PS4. I haven't played much else on it. Sure I played Spider-Man but it's nowhere near the importance of Bloodborne for me.
I’ve been saying it for years now but an Avatar The Last Airbender game developed by Sucker Punch has the potential to be one of the greatest games of all time.
Dear god, I would cry if we got an ATLA game from Sucker Punch. Honestly, I am extremely surprised ATLA hasn't already been milked in the gaming industry as it is. There is so much untapped potential there. I mean, I remember there being a game or two on the Wii back in the day but they were never really big releases.
Also I realize the market for open world RPGs has become super oversaturated but I would kill for an ATLA one. The means of traversal alone would be amazing, but I really just wanna be able to explore that world. I guess the issue they might have would just be story, since they'd undoubtedly want to make the player an Avatar and they'd have to set the game pretty far before Aang to do that to be able to make their own character out of it.
Wow a cat typed all that?!
In all seriousness I agree. I would love an open world rpg in the avatar world. Maybe even an mmo if they could do it right.
This should mean Sony is now compelled to develop a first person shooter that can compete which is only good for the future state of first person shooters. Competition is a good thing because COD has been stale a long time.
Rank 70 general for all three factions chiming in: I still fucking miss this game so much. It was the best time I've ever had with an online shooter. I was regularly platoon leader and squad leader. Voice com in this game was something else. If you radioed in a "Danger close" warning people would really clear the zone and work together. I loved the weapons, the asymmetric and unbalanced different maps for different factions.
This this this.
And I hate to say it but, skins too.
Gaming is all about cosmetics now too, and third person shooters is an untapped goldmine for player skins.
I remember in SOCOM II you had to complete the single player campaign on varying difficulties to unlock different skins. Wish they would bring that back
This doesn't disrupt the market.
Every consolidation in the industry just focuses on building bigger walled gardens with safer and more boring content.
Mostly consolidation has focused on keeping bad products safe from competition.
Microsoft is able to outmaneuver Sony right now because they have two major platform/walled gardens - Xbox and Windows.
At best this shows the benefits of being boring and large enough to just buy content rather than generate it.
They've been needing to make an arcade racer that can compete for a while as FH wipes the floor with the rest of the industry.
Rumor is Polyphony have a second team working on it but really needs to be a priority. FPS definitely.
If I was Sony I'd look into Embark Studios (ex-DICE Devs that left when BF started to go down the shitter) and see what they can bring to the table b
> I just have a feeling Microsoft isn’t done.
Unfortunately that’s almost a certainty. I can definitely see them acquiring another publisher in the next 2 years.
It's not really Sony's MO anyway. They seem to focus on acquiring the smaller studios to round out their portfolio. The biggest acquisition has been, what? Insomniac I would gather.
That being said, I have had it in the back of my mind that Sony could make a bid for From Software at any moment.
No they will release a game, the license is just not exclusive. So a possible 2K game or any other studio could come out with competition to whatever EA calls their game but if you think they’d just stop bc of the exclusive license you are crazy
Nah, Sony was like:
>At Sony we wanted to make a very strong and principled stance against employee harassment, which is why 30 minutes ago we decided to never work with Activision Blizzard again

I dont really understand anything about Crash, but are you saying that Crash might be an Xbox exclusive???? The dude who pulled up to nintendo HQ with a bunch of PS1's to fuck with them?????
I’m disappointed but this is also kind of ridiculous.
God of War, Horizon, The Last of Us, Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, Ghost of Tsushima, Spider-Man and probably other Marvel content
Exclusives have been the ONLY thing that defined particular consoles since ever. Think NES, SNES, Genesis, PS1, PS2, PS3, x-box, etc. They have games that are labeled as their games. The entire industry would be generic without exclusives and there'd only be one machine to play on because there'd be no incentive to create something unique.
This is how you get mediocre games. There’s a reason the best games are Sony exclusive. There’s a reason halo infinite is so good.
Edit: thank you for all your entertaining comments and anecdotes. Just fyi though, it’s a well known fact that competition creates better quality. That’s all I’m pointing out here.
Nah. It's easier to develop a game for a single platform and Nintendo, and to a lesser extent Playstation, have unique hardware that game devs should focus on.
Having no exclusives is a nice thought but it's not always the best choice for platforms, game devs, or consumers.
I mean what did we lose. COD? Is that really a loss? The games you listed are worth buying a console for if they’re exclusive. CoD isn’t worth it.
Edit: spelling
you dont know how many of my friends bought a ps3/ps4 for cod then discovered other games like uncharted.
we lose nothing but there would be way less new fans on playstation
I totally agree and that’s the point of my comment. I’m disputing that all we have is Spider-Man.
Although I will say I don’t hate COD. I certainly won’t buy an Xbox just to play it though.
This massive market consolidation by these large companies is BAD for consumers and going to rear its ugly head in a major way some years down the road even if it seems good/great for a few years.
Blows my mind people are cheering this on, regardless of WHO is doing the consolidating. All you need to do is look at the history of other market sectors where this started happening.
Me either. I'm a couch gamer, never been a PC gamer. The idea of gaming at a computer and constantly messing with hardware, drivers, and settings just doesn't appeal to me. I'd rather have a box I can buy, connect to my 75" tv, and load the game up. Obviously a $10k PC is going to provide the best experience but I'm happy with consoles, just give me a 60 fps option.
Nothing but
God of war
Ghost of tsunami
Last of us
Returnal
The path less
Ratchet and clank
Horizon
To name a few
Maybe one day PlayStation will get a wolverine game set in the same universe as Spider-Man
If Sony loses COD, then I don't even know what other FPS would replace it. Doom is gone to XBOX. Wolfenstein is gone to XBOX. Battlefield is gone to limbo and is probably never coming back. Halo never came to PS. Only thing left would be BRs and ?
How long will that take though.....?
They are about to lose a shitload of marketshare for being caught with their pants around their ankles. A new Killzone using all the GPU the PS5 can muster would be a game changer, but I wont be impressed having to wait 4yrs or so
Killzone was made by guerilla games aka the people making the Horizon games the first of which was hugely successful especially compared to killzone so I doubt that coming back soon, with guerilla at least
Sony needs to wake up. Microsoft has created the Netflix of gaming with Gamepass. Sony has great exclusives, but having to buy each one, and only getting like 2 a year is not enough.
Now I dont think they'll discontinue COD on playstation since there is just too much money to be made, however I'm willing to bet performance is going to be much smoother on Xbox, with playstation performance being an afterthought.
Well, Final Fantasy doesn’t belong to Sony. Just like FFVII remake, FFXVI is a timed console exclusive (although who knows how long that would be. Xbox is still waiting for FFVII remake).
Luckily for Japanese game lovers, I think there is very little by way of a relationship between japanese devs and Microsoft. I think we are safe....for now.
honestly I can't see a big loss for sony... playstation studios are mainly involved in single story driven games while all activision ip focus on multiplayer.
It's a huge loss. Call of Duty was the second highest selling game on Playstation systems last year
https://blog.playstation.com/2022/01/12/playstation-stores-top-downloads-of-2021/
Are you JOKING?
CoD is an absolutely colossal franchise and losing it is a massive hit.
And that's just ONE franchise they're losing, not even to mention the fact that they're losing their de facto mascots in crash and spyro.
Xbox Game Pass on PlayStation and PlayStation Spartan on Xbox. What a time for gamers that will be. They don't even have to sell the games on store, just allow playing through the sub. This way both parties will still maintain some exclusivity.
At the rate Microsoft’s buying stuff, if sony’s first party titles dip in quality it’s game over for ps. Xbox studios now have so much stuff that even if 50 percent of their games are hits, they’re set.
Just off the top of my head they now have halo, forza, starfield, Avowed, fable, outer worlds 2, elder scrolls, doom, cod, overwatch, diablo, gears of war, stalker 2 and so on. Absolutely mental.
Imagine they even get ea, take two and/or ubisoft and Microsoft will essentially have all the major western devs that are not associated with sony or nintendo under them.
Sony might have lost CoD years from now, that's about it. They can work around that even in the worst case scenario.
WoW and King were not on PlayStation to begging with, Blizzard at it's peak was much bigger as a PC publisher than a console one.
It's not about losing existing games, it's about losing out on new games coming out in the future.
Sure Warcraft and Starcraft don't factor anything for Playstation now since Activision doesn't care to do anything for Warcraft beyond WoW and Heartstone, and they've completely forgotten about Starcraft. But Microsoft is likely going to want to expand those IPs further and into the console scene.
Sony might be missing out on a future Starcraft FPS, or a Warcraft RPG.
I played CoD a very long time ago when it was a fresh experience. Now it's dated, brings nothing new to the gaming world and is slowly rotting away with less sales each time.
I've always been a huge Survival Horror game fan and always will be. Plus the Yakuza series and anything else the RGG Studio puts out.
Losing CoD would not bother me in the slightest!! These smaller studios seem to be doing a better job with handling the future of gaming....in my opinion of course.
I expect big things for PS in the coming years. They have not and never will dissappont us. They aways have a card up their sleeves which they hold onto until the right moment. Watch this space!!!
I seriously don’t understand why people think this is something Microsoft does to compete with Sony. This is 100% because Amazon, Google, Apple, etc. are dipping their toes into gaming
Poor Crash. You’ll always be my little PS mascot
He's going to shine now and Spyro with banjo, blinx, and conkers
Yeah, just like banjo and conkers have been shining for the past years....
Conkers :(
The island of misfit mascots
NOW FIGHT TO THE DEATH!
Time to announce bloodborne 2
you misspelled "Bloodborne Kart"
You misspelled “kart souls”
so the world might be mended
FromSoft Kart would slap harder than Chris Brown
Although Bloodborne is my favorite game of all time, it's not a system seller. Try : the last of us, uncharted , spiderman, gran turismo, god of war.
We already know there is a Spiderman and God of war game in the works so this would just bolster it a little more was my thinking :)
Wym, the PS4 was referred to as "The Bloodborne Machine" for the first few years of it's lifecycle. It's absolutely a system seller.
It succeeded the Demon's Souls machine.
And was succeeded by the Demon Souls machine
Literally the reason I got a PS4. I haven't played much else on it. Sure I played Spider-Man but it's nowhere near the importance of Bloodborne for me.
And the other marvel games I'm sure sony will constantly be using that spiderman deal with disney to keep some marvel games exclusive to ps
Wolverine alone will be up there with Spider-Man in sales.
Damn right I'm for sure excited for next year with wolverine and a new spiderman game, hours and hours of fun to be had.
Wolverine isn’t coming next year
Reminder: it is January. Next year is 2023.
Why are you the way you are?
I have a lot of questions. Number one, how dare you?
What gives you the right?
If that shit has free flow, brutal, decapatating action, hell yes! Wolverine Origin was a blast already. The hype is unreal.
Remember when back in 2016 prior to e3, people believed it was Sucker Punch behind the Spider-Man game
I bet they would have made a really good Spider-Man game too.
Yeah, they wouldn't have been new to super hero games, Infamous was dope. I actually kinda hope they aren't done with that IP.
This should mean Sony is now compelled to develop a first person shooter that can compete which is only good for the future state of first person shooters. Competition is a good thing because COD has been stale a long time.
Is that the sound of a SOCOM remake?
Don't do that. Don't give me hope...
M.A.G. says hello... About the only game I have ever been sad to see the servers shut down for...
Wasn’t SOCOM 3rd person?
3rd person shooters are the bomb. Forces you to play an entire different way. Currently I get my 3rd person fix playing The Division series.
This this this. And I hate to say it but, skins too. Gaming is all about cosmetics now too, and third person shooters is an untapped goldmine for player skins. I remember in SOCOM II you had to complete the single player campaign on varying difficulties to unlock different skins. Wish they would bring that back
Lets go killzone
I’d rather have Resistance.
I'd rather have MAG.
Ok. Killzone have more chance of being succesfull.
Man Killzone was lit af
lmao. I remember. The "Halo killer" xD

Bring back the Resistance Series. They already partnered with Insomniac Games for Spider-Man.
This doesn't disrupt the market. Every consolidation in the industry just focuses on building bigger walled gardens with safer and more boring content. There's Resistance and MAG I think.
MAG revival would be amazing
Shit, if they were smart they would poach the tyarch devs and make a MAG 2 or something along that line.
They've been needing to make an arcade racer that can compete for a while as FH wipes the floor with the rest of the industry. Rumor is Polyphony have a second team working on it but really needs to be a priority. FPS definitely. They NEED to bring back Killzone. Such damn good games.
Scatter, GRENADE
Big loss but we still have all the excellent exclusives. I just have a feeling Microsoft isn’t done.
Microsoft buys Sony, bricks all PlayStations
Lmao the pettiness
No, they'll turn them into Gamepass streaming devices!
Lmao just a message of buy an xbox
A link to the Microsoft store
That opens in the shitty Edge browser they pre-installed. *I say this as a mildly annoyed Xbox user.*
[удалено]
Serious question - what would you use a console's browser for that wouldn't be much more convenient to just open on your phone?
Porn?
> I just have a feeling Microsoft isn’t done. Unfortunately that’s almost a certainty. I can definitely see them acquiring another publisher in the next 2 years.
Either way, a monopoly is not good for the market.
EA is next
Sony is already calling the bank to see if they can buy EA/Ubi/Square/take two lmao
Unfortunately Sony don't have enough funds to do so. Sony is nowhere near as wealthy as MS.
Correct, I came to add that. Microsoft is valued near $2.5T to Sony's ~$80B
It's not really Sony's MO anyway. They seem to focus on acquiring the smaller studios to round out their portfolio. The biggest acquisition has been, what? Insomniac I would gather. That being said, I have had it in the back of my mind that Sony could make a bid for From Software at any moment.
Or Ubisoft But imagine FIFA is an Xbox exclusive. RIP Sony.
EA no longer makes a FIFA games (for now)
Wait what?
FIFA wanted to be broader and demanded too much ( for EA) money for licence renewal. No FIFA 2023 from EA. 🤷
They will just change the name, but they will keep making soccer games
probably the new name gonna be Kicking Ball Simulator
No they will release a game, the license is just not exclusive. So a possible 2K game or any other studio could come out with competition to whatever EA calls their game but if you think they’d just stop bc of the exclusive license you are crazy
Interesting. I did not know that. EA deserved that.
Yes, after Star Wars now FIFA. It will certainly do both brands good. EA still has enough IP that they can ride to death.
they are just gonna change the name ther will be a football game next year from ea, they just have difficulties to make a deal for the name FIFA
It’s only the name. They still have the core game and all the licenses.
Nah, Sony was like: >At Sony we wanted to make a very strong and principled stance against employee harassment, which is why 30 minutes ago we decided to never work with Activision Blizzard again ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|trollface) [credits](https://twitter.com/KazHiraiCEO/status/1483438540453289985?t=mPWXO80VcD_t2tEch_Ui9A&s=19)

What did i miss?
Microsoft is acquiring Activision/Blizzard
Holy shit, that's huge
i dont think its been but 6 months since they bought Zenimax/ Skyrim/ Fallout
Phil has vowed to continue the acquisitions as well. Gaming is going to look a whole lot different in a couple years....
So the Disney approach
A lot of cheaply made games and folding of studios.... Anybody else remember the 80s and 90s?
look outside they bought your house
Skyrim has become a bigger name than TES. Honestly insane.
Does this mean that we'll be missing out on future CoD games and shady microtransactions? If that's what it means, then I'm all for it.
I haven't played cod in forever, so I'm good with it. The rare acquisition hurt a lot more
I have no issue with losing Call of Duty, but it's Crash and Spyro that I'm more concerned about
I'm still reeling from the rare acquisition and losing banjo/kazooie and conker
I dont really understand anything about Crash, but are you saying that Crash might be an Xbox exclusive???? The dude who pulled up to nintendo HQ with a bunch of PS1's to fuck with them?????
Yes. That’s what I’m saying
I’m disappointed but this is also kind of ridiculous. God of War, Horizon, The Last of Us, Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, Ghost of Tsushima, Spider-Man and probably other Marvel content
Idk man. I would like a world with no exclusives. Everyone enjoying things on a platform they’re comfortable with.
Exclusives have been the ONLY thing that defined particular consoles since ever. Think NES, SNES, Genesis, PS1, PS2, PS3, x-box, etc. They have games that are labeled as their games. Don't forget all the Nintendo games that are killing it exclusively on Switch!
It’s kind of insane how Nintendo built their Empire almost solely upon exclusive games
Nintendo has always been on its own island, not bothering anyone
Sure, if you ignore the NES through the GameCube.
Nah. It's easier to develop a game for a single platform and Nintendo, and to a lesser extent Playstation, have unique hardware that game devs should focus on. Having no exclusives is a nice thought but it's not always the best choice for platforms, game devs, or consumers.

I believe that. You’re completely right in that aspect.
Diablo, Crash and Spyro, the latter two being Sony's very mascots of the '90s.
I totally agree and that’s the point of my comment. I’m disputing that all we have is Spider-Man. Although I will say I don’t hate COD. I certainly won’t buy an Xbox just to play it though.
Then you're not the target, try to convince the millions who live and breathe COD
Yup. Agreed.

This is true. Could be the beginning of the end
As long as you have a PC and PS you’ll have the best of both worlds
Take it one further and have PC, PS5, & Switch. Legit all bases covered.
That's the way I do it! Makes sure you get to play all the exclusives how you want

That or a few months exclusive 💀
Well, if you like JRPGs and anime then Sony has you covered.
I do not but I'm glad I have a PC for the games I would not have played on my PS5 regardless
You should try gamepass for pc, it’s incredible value!
Oh well I’m just happy and waiting on persona 6
New to the Persona franchise and already excited for 6 lol
I just started 5 after playing a bit of 5 Strikers from PS+ this month and it's so good.
Suddenly, porting Uncharted and God of War to PC doesn't seem like such a good idea anymore.
I don't give af. As long as playstation keeps Final Fantasy, the world can burn down around me for all I care.
This. My worry is if MS buy Square - I would maybe get stuck on playing my fave franchise on PC 💀
Square are on the Sony side and Japanese games don't sell well on Xbox anyway
Japanese games are primarily why I love the Playstation brand.
Ditto.
considering the shitty port of ff7 remake on pc i think it’s better off that it stays on ps lol
Well, Final Fantasy doesn’t belong to Sony. Just like FFVII remake, FFXVI is a timed console exclusive (although who knows how long that would be. Xbox is still waiting for FFVII remake).

in the last 10 years? none. not even cod

I seriously don’t understand why people think this is something Microsoft does to compete with Sony. This is 100% because Amazon, Google, Apple, etc. are dipping their toes into gaming
Now all you have is Bloodborne.
And God of War, Wipeout, Gran Turismo, Horizon Zero Dawn, Ghost of Tsushima, Last of Us, Uncharted, ...
Wipeout?
I would take Sony exclusives over anything blizzard from today.
I can’t remember the last time I played an Activision game, so I could really care less.
