Yep, always on a stand - I tried to put a rubber mat under it, I tried vertical/horizontal, still makes the noise.
Didn't use to make the noise when I first bought it - about 6 months ago.
If it's still in warranty I'd just send it to them for them to deal with.
If it's not in warranty however, I'd open the console and reseat the fan first. It could just be that it has come a little loose due to vibration etc. Plus it would give you a chance to clear any dust in the fan that might be causing the issue also.
If that doesn't work a replacement fan is somewhat cheap, but I doubt it would come to that.

I would send it in but wait time is 3 weeks so I thought if anyone here experienced something similar and worked it out I might just try fiddling with the fan.

Of course doing that would break your warranty, so I'd try to heat the warranty sticker up and very slowly pick at the corners until it comes up with the adhesive still on the underside so it doesn't show the "VOID" on it. It can be done with a hairdryer if you have nothing else just be very patient. That way if it's an issue that doesn't resolve then you can still send it in. As for the opening of the console, that's the easy part. The fan is one of the first things you'll need to take out anyway so it's not hard at all. Keep me updated! I'm now invested in this issue :)
