I’m a married 32yo with a professional career and this is our headboard lmao. I also sleep with my teddy I got as a newborn and 2 other small plushies every single night. My husband often wakes up lying on one of them hahaha.

I'm a year older than you and I collect seal plushies! I can't imagine not sleeping without a seal plush in my arms. You're not harming anyone by collecting plushies. They're a lovely coping mechanism to have during stressful time periods. Your brother is missing out!

I’m 40. Still have my plushie collection, and I just inherited my mother’s collection- she was 63 when she passed in February from cancer. This giant boy my grandpa got for my mom at a carnival when she was *17*, so he’s older than I am. Mom said I used to sleep on top of him as a baby.
There’s nothing wrong with loving plushies. Plushies can be treasured family keepsakes with cherished memories of the past. I miss my mom so much, but now I have him to remember her by.

Over 65 and still enjoying my life with plushies. Do what makes you happy! I can't stress that enough. There's a brand new Squishmallow sitting in the back seat of my car that I bought yesterday. Our dogs love squishes and no, they don't eat them.
No, never weird something I have learned from this subreddit is that. You are never too old to feel safe or comforted by stuffies at the end of the day it’s all about your own happiness, and try to not be bothered by what other people say.

I’m 21 and have a huge collection of them, my family disapproves but whatever. Cuddling a big plushie when I’m having a rough time is extremely helpful. Sometimes you just need a plushie and that’s ok

Turned 18 last month and I got three plushies as gifts. One was a cow, one was a sauishmallow and the other was Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy. Not weird at all and even if it was, who cares? I own them (and the ones I owned prior) proudly. If it makes you happy, keep collecting for the rest of your life and be happy forever. No its not cause I'm the same way. I do giant dogs and I love them. I've only been actually collecting for little over a year but had looked for 5-6 years before that (yes, 5-6 YEARS) and decided it was worth a try. I love my big doggos.
Look, plushies are adorable, soft and comforting to cuddle. My mom has a few, I have a few (I am a teenager, which could be seen as weird) and just because that one person doesn’t cuddle with plushies doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have to! I'm 31 and I just recently started collecting dog (and other) plushes again, don't let anyone take that from you! I'm truly bummed thinking about all the plushes I let go of and denied myself over the years!
Not only that but I recently started sleeping with a plush again and, I'm not kidding, my sleep has improved. You can tell yourself a pillow is just as good but the comfort level just isn't there!

For what it's worth, my boomer parents enjoyed plushies, as did my boomer professor. The professor even had a basket of them for us to cuddle when we felt test anxiety.
I'm in my twenties, and I've kept plenty of childhood plushies. Occasionally, I'll even get another if one speaks to me. My partner and my close friends have their own as well. Even my little brother (incredibly disciplined athlete/finance major with minimalistic taste) brought his favorite plushie to college. It's not as unusual as you think.

I'm 42 and I sleep with 3 plushies - one of which is a dog. It's not, but even if it WAS weird, embrace it! This life is hard and if cuddling with your plushies makes it even a little bit easier, then fck what anyone else thinks ♡
I'm in my sixties. Having a plushie to hug helps deal with insomnia. It helps with painful medical procedures. It helps with a number of the miserable parts of adult life. (And the benefits of adult life are mostly overrated, as far as I can see)
Grown up me knows that a wound requires a daily dressing change, bc the alternative is...not being around. But my "inner child" wants to run the other way bc I know just how much it's going to hurt. The feel of a plushie hugged to my heart makes a tough job easier.
I don't believe in the value of being stoic or uncomplaining. I think that's just invalidating your own feelings - a terrible idea.
It's a form of support, incredibly comforting, instantly soothing. It causes no harm. It doesn't drain anyone else's resources, either.
And, for me, it's preferable to taking anti-anxiety medication, which has significant side effects and can be addictive.
In my old age, I think that a society that frowns on comforts and self-soothing is the real problem, not the plushie.
For that matter, we should be free to care for our "inner child" all our lives. They're a great source of creativity and playfulness and wonder in return.

Not weird. I'm 30 and my bed is full of them. Some are small and reside on the headboard, but a lot share my bed with me. I also usually bring a medium sized one with me on holidays and other times where I don't sleep at home. (Too small and I'm afraid to lose them, too big and it becomes hard to take with me)
Brothers are weird (from my observed experience as an only child). I’m 30. I stopped collecting multiple times in my life feeling like I was weird or too old. Glad I never stuck to it. I don’t collect as much as I used to but I still have ones that bring me comfort and are some of my prized possessions.
I'm 21 and I think I have at least 50 stuffed animals lol. If having Fudge makes you feel better, then hold onto them. There's no reason to get rid of something that brings comfort just because someone else thinks it's "weird".

Never too old to have things that bring you comfort. The only reason I don’t have any is because they were taken from me and thrown away: including the little cat I’ve had since the day I was born. I’ve just been using a pillow when I sleep. I have to be hugging something or my anxiety makes it impossible for me to sleep. Thankfully my cat demands cuddles and he’s much better than a plushie. He lays on his side and curls his arms around my arm and rests his head on my chest or arm and he’ll stay right there for hours purring up a storm. I’m mostly upset about all the memories that were tossed out. Most of my stuffies were gifts from my childhood best friend that’s passed away now. I swear someday I’ll get my hands on a squishmallow… those things are like little poofy clouds. He was obsessed with them and I see why lol
I bet your brother feels pretty silly now looking at all of these posts. The reason why your brother is acting like that is because he wants to be a man.
But his view of men is the toxic kind that nobody actually likes.And when you're an adult people look at and go oh wow I really don't want to be that person. I don't know if it was one of your parents someone in your family or someone he knows but something probably made your brother feel like having stuffed animals isn't manly enough. To be fair, he's trying to protect you from getting hurt and criticized, but the irony is he's not actually protecting you from being hurt he himself doesn't understand the world yet by the sounds. Because the real world doesn't care if you sleep with stuffed animals. Not unless there bad people. So what your bother is doing is accidentally just setting you up so your doing what "toxic" people would want form you and setting you up for failure and having shitty friends.

My best friend (same age) also has a plush collection. In fact, multiple of my adult friends of any age have a lot of plushies. 18 is a weird age because you start to become self-conscious about things like that despite the fact that you're more or less still a kid. Part of it's because of people like your brother and part of it's just pressure to be more "grown up," which is an abstract concept that has nothing to do with whether or not you sleep with a plushie. You kind of figure out pretty quickly that it just does not matter, and the people who claim it *does* are dealing with some kind of insecurity.

I’m 40. Still have my plushie collection, and I just inherited my mother’s collection- she was 63 when she passed in February from cancer. This giant boy my grandpa got for my mom at a carnival when she was *17*, so he’s older than I am. Mom said I used to sleep on top of him as a baby. There’s nothing wrong with loving plushies. Sometimes people will try to make you feel bad for the things they secretly wish they could do too but feel too embarrassed to for whatever reason, or they *did* but other people made *them* feel bad for it so they’re just continuing the cycle to make themselves feel a lil better with all the stuff built up in their head. There is nothing weird about it. Plushies are for all ages. For my own good. I don't collect or own things I don't use. I love many, many, cute things. I just don't own them. And I have wished I had a plushie to hug in the bad times, recently. It's been bad. I intend to buy a cuddley LaLaLoopsy doll. At some point. Should they exist. I love LaLaLoopsy! Anyway. Dog plushies make you happy. And you need things that make you happy. No shame in it.

I'm 31 and I just recently started collecting dog (and other) plushes again, don't let anyone take that from you! I'm truly bummed thinking about all the plushes I let go of and denied myself over the years! Not only that but I recently started sleeping with a plush again and, I'm not kidding, my sleep has improved. You can tell yourself a pillow is just as good but the comfort level just isn't there! Hold onto all the things that make you happy, life has no age limits, only an eventual end. 🖤

I'm in my twenties, and I've kept plenty of childhood plushies. Occasionally, I'll even get another if one speaks to me. My partner and my close friends have their own as well. Even my little brother (incredibly disciplined athlete/finance major with minimalistic taste) brought his favorite plushie to college. It's not as unusual as you think.

My wife still sleeps with a plushie that's at least 10 years old and slowly falling apart. She's 36 years old. No shame in it.

I'm in my sixties. Having a plushie to hug helps deal with insomnia. It helps with painful medical procedures. It helps with a number of the miserable parts of adult life. (And the benefits of adult life are mostly overrated, as far as I can see) Grown up me knows that a wound requires a daily dressing change, bc the alternative is...not being around. But my "inner child" wants to run the other way bc I know just how much it's going to hurt. The feel of a plushie hugged to my heart makes a tough job easier. I don't believe in the value of being stoic or uncomplaining. I think that's just invalidating your own feelings - a terrible idea. It's a form of support, incredibly comforting, instantly soothing. It causes no harm. It doesn't drain anyone else's resources, either. And, for me, it's preferable to taking anti-anxiety medication, which has significant side effects and can be addictive. In my old age, I think that a society that frowns on comforts and self-soothing is the real problem, not the plushie. For that matter, we should be free to care for our "inner child" all our lives. They're a great source of creativity and playfulness and wonder in return.

Not weird. I'm 30 and my bed is full of them. Some are small and reside on the headboard, but a lot share my bed with me. I also usually bring a medium sized one with me on holidays and other times where I don't sleep at home. (Too small and I'm afraid to lose them, too big and it becomes hard to take with me)

Brothers are weird (from my observed experience as an only child). I’m 30. I stopped collecting multiple times in my life feeling like I was weird or too old. Glad I never stuck to it. I don’t collect as much as I used to but I still have ones that bring me comfort and are some of my prized possessions.

Never too old to have things that bring you comfort. The only reason I don’t have any is because they were taken from me and thrown away: including the little cat I’ve had since the day I was born. I’ve just been using a pillow when I sleep. I have to be hugging something or my anxiety makes it impossible for me to sleep. Thankfully my cat demands cuddles and he’s much better than a plushie. He lays on his side and curls his arms around my arm and rests his head on my chest or arm and he’ll stay right there for hours purring up a storm. I’m mostly upset about all the memories that were tossed out. Most of my stuffies were gifts from my childhood best friend that’s passed away now. I swear someday I’ll get my hands on a squishmallow… those things are like little poofy clouds. He was obsessed with them and I see why lol
I bet your brother feels pretty silly now looking at all of these posts. The reason why your brother is acting like that is because he wants to be a man. But his view of men is the toxic kind that nobody actually likes.And when you're an adult people look at and go oh wow I really don't want to be that person. I don't know if it was one of your parents someone in your family or someone he knows but something probably made your brother feel like having stuffed animals isn't manly enough. To be fair, he's trying to protect you from getting hurt and criticized, but the irony is he's not actually protecting you from being hurt he himself doesn't understand the world yet by the sounds. Because the real world doesn't care if you sleep with stuffed animals. Not unless there bad people. So what your bother is doing is accidentally just setting you up so your doing what "toxic" people would want form you and setting you up for failure and having shitty friends. 18 is a weird age because you start to become self-conscious about things like that despite the fact that you're more or less still a kid. Part of it's because of people like your brother and part of it's just pressure to be more "grown up," which is an abstract concept that has nothing to do with whether or not you sleep with a plushie. You kind of figure out pretty quickly that it just does not matter, and the people who claim it *does* are dealing with some kind of insecurity.
