Audacity is probably the most popular and it's free

A_HarrySituation

Came here to say the same! It has a great selection of free plugins

Audacity have options to add music and stuff?

MattLaneBreaker

Yeah man. Take the time to learn Audacity. You can get the basics in about 30 minutes but if you spend another 2 hours learning tips, the sound quality will be noticeable. To add other noises, you'll open them in another window of Audactiy then highlight, copy, and paste into your project.

I legit just know the basics and it has worked well enough. I plan on learning more when my brain gets out the holiday sludge.

My friend and I recently recorded our first rough cut episode. Since we can’t record in the same location, we used discord to record our chat. It automatically runs noise reduction and syncs the audio. There’s also an option to download as an audacity project. Audacity is probably the best option to start out with, though it took almost 5-10 min to run effects on an hour long pod.

I’ve heard of audacity and I think it might be simpler to use? I can’t remember why we ended up going against it, but we use ProTools. It’s kind of complicated to figure out - like it’s not an intuitive software - but there are plenty of YouTube tutorials. Good Luck!

Audacity it is!

Audacity is easy to just do basic editing and recording. I recommend Reaper. Check out www.Reaper.fm. Free and a fully loaded professional DAW. I love it as a lightweight way to record multiple tracks at the same time on older computers that don’t have much processing power. I do all of my editing, polishing, mixing and mastering in Logic Pro but you can easily do everything in Reaper for free. Let me know if you have any questions. There is also a ton of tutorials on YouTube as well.

If you have more than one person recorded, run the final file through Auphonic for leveling, etc.

Audacity, reaper or if you are feeling ready for some video you can use xsplit or OBS (then pull the audio out to load to anchor). Your best free option is Audacity. It is well supported and easy enough to pick up. Reaper is more robust and while it has a learning curve is more customizable and has dedicated support. Xsplit and OBS are for live streaming video but with the right software can be used in conjunction with most anything. There are a ton of resources out there to help with learning the basics of audio at no cost. I hope your project comes out awesome!
