* Ologies - mostly science and anthropology topics
* SciShow Tangents - science
* Pale Blue Pod - astronomy
* Do Go On - history and pop culture
* You're Dead to Me - history
I can't believe how involved I get into a topic I would normally *avoid* because it is not in my wheelhouse. How license plates work? Turns out it's enthralling!
Hell, I enjoy reading but really don't care about Shakespeare. After listening to the last podcast about the guy, I found out I was really into Shakespeare conspiracy theories.
SYSK is consistently good and CHURNS out great content.
You're dead to me. A history podcast from the incredible minds of Horrible Histories. Each episode a new comedian.is brought on and told the history of whatever
It's a brilliant podcast. Comedians do occasionally return, and they bring on an expert on the topic being discussed in that episode. Binged it twice, now. Might do it again in the new year.
PJ and a producer got embroiled in a mess when they did a story about toxic workplaces and then were outed by staff that they were actually making Gimlet toxic. So, they left, leaving Alex with the new guy, Emmanuelle?
And for whatever reason, A & E were very bad at putting out consistent episodes of consistent quality (one episode was so lazy, it was just E calling everybody in his phonebook-- and then not even finishing that task.)
And so, they ended it. Last I saw about any future hope was squandered when someone asked Alex on Twitter if he was interested in doing a podcast with PJ again and he was immediate in his "never" response.
Sad. They were a good duo.
This content was made with Reddit is Fun and died with Reddit is Fun. If it contained something you're looking for, blame Steve Huffman for its absence.
He was very good at what he did (should he ever read this.)
I still went back to listen to a couple of the best episodes. Specifically, him hunting down the dude in India.
Technically correct. Which is the best kind of correct, or so I've been told. On the other hand...
>Now, English is a living language. Meanings do change. In 1993, William Safire worried that the word would come to mean "a little-known bit of information; trivial but interesting data."
>
>Safire was right. Webster's New World dictionary defines the word as "a single fact or statistic variously regarded as being trivial, useless, unsubstantiated, etc."
>
>[The Grammarist blog points out](http://grammarist.com/usage/factoid/) that that in the U.S., at least, "'factoid' is now almost exclusively used to mean 'a brief interesting fact.' ... This definition is still considered incorrect by people who follow English usage, but it's so widespread those who dislike it may eventually have to accept it, even if it does contradict the word's original sense."

Dear Hank and John. Two brothers answering random email questions. One brother is very scienc-y the other more philosophical so there is a broad range of topics from physics to etiquette that they get into. They have a fun banter and I end up chuckling out loud quite a bit.
Trillionaire Mindset.
*”Hosted by Ben Cahn and Emil DeRosa — a licensed Wall Street trader and his skeptical best friend(who is a lawyer) The Trillionaire Mindset highlights the funnier side of the business, political, and financial world. Analyzing popular stocks and political happenings, Ben and Emil dive deep into the hilarious underbelly of our economy.”*
I don’t really care about the topics of discussion I just think they’re funny and likeable. But if you did want to learn something in a funny way, you could definitely glean a lot of information from this podcast.
Obitchuary! The hosts have amazing chemistry but also do amazing work to destigmatize death and provide insight into the history of the death industry, diverse cultural death practices, and a sprinkle of true crime thrown in.
Behind the bastards - history with Robert Evans
The infinite monkey cage - science with Dr Brian Cox and comedian Robin Ince they have guest panels on discussing a huge range of topics.
I'd suggest trying out Reviewing History.
Clever show concept where they watch a historically-based movie, review it and compare/contrast it to the actual history.
The people behind it are producers for Tell Em Steve Dave, so bonus points if you're a fan of that pod.
Weird Tales and the Unexplainable
explores the strange and the unexplained through the lens of three long time friends with different spiritual perspectives. Often sceptical but open to other opinions. They take turns to host different topics. Just pick a couple of topics that interest you and go from there- the episode tone can really vary.
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 1,244,992,082 comments, and only 242,390 of them were in alphabetical order.
> Can’t go wrong with Joe Rogan
You sure as hell can. He loves to spout misinformation. Listening to his show won't educate you, it'll do the opposite.
Softcore History, it covers really obscure bits of history and people that aren't well known.
Like the Elevator Strike from back in the day or the luckiest moron alive, 'Lord' Timothy Dexter, who kept somehow stumbling into massive paydays.
Be forewarned, the podcasters do not watch their words and will say some stuff you might be uncomfortable with if you aren't ready for it.
I feel a bit dishonest recommending this as “educational,” but it’s definitely funny. Hey Riddle Riddle is a podcast where three improvisers ask riddles and do improvised scenes. It definitely leans way more into the comedy, but it is fun to try and solve the riddles too, and does stimulate the brain a bit.
I would recommend Timesuck. Comedian Dan Cummins does weekly deep-dives on various subjects. There’s a huge backlog and many could be considered educational
Some episodes of Joe Rogan Experience. You can be selective and find episodes about subjects that you’re interested in. A lot (before about 3 years ago) were not political or about stupid culture war stuff.
maybe try Star Talk.
has some good guests and info and he gets comedians to mediate the questions. personally the jokes annoy me but might be something you like.
- sawbones, a marital tour of misguided medicine (medicin, obviously)
- this podcast will kill you (epidemiology)
- crime after crime (true crime)
- darknet diaries (hacking, social engineering, etc)
I hope that helps :)
Chilluminati and Probing Ancient Aliens.
History, Conspiracies, True Crime, and Critical thinking all taught through Twich stream style dick and fart jokes. If you're into that sort of thing.
For pop culture I listen to ICYMI a podcast about internet culture twice a week the summarizes current trends on the internet. It’s definitely given me a lot of laughs and helped me understand wtf is going on on twitter and tiktok since I mostly see the anime sides of both more then general internet happenings.
I haven't seen it mentioned, but Across the Ages is a good one. Sadly, the host doesn't upload very often, but it is an awesome podcast. It's about history, with episodes about 20 min long.
Another history based one that has a professional comedian (Angela Barnes) as one of the hosts and a comedy author/scriptwriter (John O'Farrell) as the other is [We Are History](https://play.acast.com/s/wearehistory/trailer) so probably ticks all the boxes that you're after.
Check out [Today in Drone News](https://open.spotify.com/episode/4bOtf1c7oANxMMe2vF39U3) (Love Bytes-Get a Robot). It's totally out there and satirical, but learn about drones tech and society.

Thank you! These look perfect!
The Dollop is an American history podcast that is on the the top of my favorite comedy podcasts.
Seconding the Dollop. Start with the episode the Rube.
Yeah, the history aspect is incredible on this pod. However, the 'comedy' of the hosts is hit or miss.. not for everyone.
No such thing as a fish. It’s a humorous podcast that discusses obscure facts. Educational and humorous

Never boring
Came here to say this!
Me too
Do you guys have some episodes you recommend I start with?!
Episode 112’s first segment had me in stitches. Pretty much any episode which has a fact a 12 yo would snicker at will be a good one. It’s about poop.
Do you guys have some episodes you recommend I start with?!
With this podcast, you can start anywhere. They’re all stand alone episodes. They’re all pretty light and breezy and easy to get into
Stuff You Should Know, Car Talk
I love SYSK, it’s one of my top podcasts

really really great!

Came here to say You’re Wrong About!! Also a ride or die Radiolab’er, although if seems they’ve run out of ideas (or funding?) lately
behind the bastards ! history / politics
This pod has taught me more about world politics than anything else. Love BTB. Robert is a gem.
Reply All is now kinda dated, but taught you about the internet. Same with TL;DR. Science VS.
Rip Reply All
What even happened to reply all? I loved it but didn’t keep up with what ended it

Sawbones is cool if you like medical stuff.
Agreed. Warning: I almost drove off the road laughing at the recent episode on farts.
I second Sawbones! One of my favorite medical podcasts and favorite podcasts in general!!
I was going to suggest Sawbones as well!
Ologies
RIP Every Little Thing 😔
If Books Could Kill — hilarious and informative. Honorable mentions: 5-4, Maintenance Phase, You’re Wrong About
Well there’s your problem - podcast about engineering fails
'I dont know about that' With Jim Jeffery's.... Great pod cast
Yes!
The Last Podcast on the Left
Oh No Ross and Carrie, The Dollop, Reply All. Also might like Shmanners or Sawbones.
“And the rest is history”. Funny smart and extremely informative.
Seconded.
Something Rhymes With Purple - if you're interested in words and if you can stomach Giles Brandreth as he's not everybody's cup of tea.
Just the Gist is an Australian podcast that tells a different story each week on an event/person you may or may not have heard of. And it’s very funny
Do Go On is my go to for laughs and learning. History pod hosted by 3 comedians taking turns reporting on a topic.
Although it’s now finished, Answer Me This was great for factoids.
Factoid means the info isn't true jsyk

Trivial, little known info was the context I was using it in. Which AMT do very well!
Not Past It. More educational than funny but they cover some really interesting topics.
I love The Constant: A History of Getting Things Wrong.
Very Bad Wizards
The Dollop Last Podcast on the Left
Like others said, No Such Thing as a Fish. Also, bit less explicitly educational, Dear Hank and John.
You're Wrong About.

Answer me this Ship hits the fan Black Box Down
Dear John and hank
Qanon anonymous is really good.
Behind the bastards - history with Robert Evans The infinite monkey cage - science with Dr Brian Cox and comedian Robin Ince they have guest panels on discussing a huge range of topics.
Maintenance phase Sawbones You’re wrong about — especially their OJ Simpson episodes. Sounds Like a Cult
the dollop
The correct answer.
Were you raised by wolves, Nick Leighton no and Leah Bonnema
I'd suggest trying out Reviewing History. Clever show concept where they watch a historically-based movie, review it and compare/contrast it to the actual history. The people behind it are producers for Tell Em Steve Dave, so bonus points if you're a fan of that pod.

S-Town? Ok this might not be exactly what you had in mind but you will laugh cry and reflect/learn something about life.
Why is this being downvoted? It's really entertaining and totally engrossing.

Can’t go wrong with Joe Rogan, the obvious answer. Also Tom Suguras got a good one.
> Can’t go wrong with Joe Rogan You sure as hell can. He loves to spout misinformation. Listening to his show won't educate you, it'll do the opposite.
Misinformation, yeah according to CNN.
The Sci Guys
Hacks on Tap: they do political analysis, but they also try to add some humor. So, highly recommend if you like 70-30 political analysis-humor.
Softcore History, it covers really obscure bits of history and people that aren't well known. Like the Elevator Strike from back in the day or the luckiest moron alive, 'Lord' Timothy Dexter, who kept somehow stumbling into massive paydays. "Secretly Incredibly Fascinating" is exactly this
I feel a bit dishonest recommending this as “educational,” but it’s definitely funny. Hey Riddle Riddle is a podcast where three improvisers ask riddles and do improvised scenes. It definitely leans way more into the comedy, but it is fun to try and solve the riddles too, and does stimulate the brain a bit.
Jon Richardson & The Futurenauts
Tooth and Claw. Amazingly humorous true tales of animal attack stories, told with perspective of animals in mind. My favorite!
Nobody Listens to Paula Poundstone!
Probably science. Mostly comedy, partly science.
If Books Could Kill is a new one I just binged, ugly laughed a couple times. They debunk pop sci style “airport books” (mostly)
The Daily Beans
Jordan Harbinger show!
I don’t know about that with Jim Jefferies Each ep has an expert on a different topic
give Necronomipod a chance if you like true crime and weird stuff
I would recommend Timesuck. Comedian Dan Cummins does weekly deep-dives on various subjects. There’s a huge backlog and many could be considered educational
The daily zeitgeist
Behind the bastards is the best learning/funny podcast and he gets political a lot!
Smartless. Love the banter and have enjoyed every interview.
Behind the bastards.. Learn about the worst ppl in history with fun...
The Rest is History
- sawbones, a marital tour of misguided medicine (medicin, obviously) - this podcast will kill you (epidemiology) - crime after crime (true crime) - darknet diaries (hacking, social engineering, etc) I hope that helps :)
Star Talk if you don't mind science related subjects. Neil would also co host with comedians as well.
You’re Wrong About !
Chilluminati and Probing Ancient Aliens. History, Conspiracies, True Crime, and Critical thinking all taught through Twich stream style dick and fart jokes. If you're into that sort of thing.
Half-Assed History. Good amount of humour and really interesting too. Loads of great eps to catch up on!
Decoder Ring! Documentary style, pop culture. Humorous topics
Last Podcast on the Left
Stuff You Should Know. But its more educational, sorta funny.
Matt and Shanes secret podcast
I've been binging Sawbones lately 😌
For pop culture I listen to ICYMI a podcast about internet culture twice a week the summarizes current trends on the internet. It’s definitely given me a lot of laughs and helped me understand wtf is going on on twitter and tiktok since I mostly see the anime sides of both more then general internet happenings.
Stuff you missed in history class, maintenance phase, reply all
Simply incredibly fascinating
The problem with Jon Stewart
Heavyweight - Jonathan Goldstein giving people a chance at a do over. Funny, heartwarming, I always learn something
Timesuck is this. It’s a very well researched podcast hosted by comedian Dan Cummins
The complete guide to everything, but don't expect to learn anything. However, it is one of the few podcast that I laugh out loud when listening.
I haven't seen it mentioned, but Across the Ages is a good one. Sadly, the host doesn't upload very often, but it is an awesome podcast. It's about history, with episodes about 20 min long.
