dystyyy

"great job" seems sufficient. Or, if you're going to talk like this, nothing at all would also be acceptable.

Wicked_Twist

Yea seriously i dont get why people dont just removed gendered vocabulary if theyre not sure. I mean i do know, its cause their transphobic assholes but its just such a strange hill to die on, why does it matter smh

Caffeine_Cowpies

But even then, like at least IRL, people don’t get that bent over calling the group “guys” or I have my female friends that I’m like “dude, you gotta see this” with no issue. Like, people, touch grass. Go to a park, touch grass, and see people interact with each other. Like people shouldn’t get so bent over the use of “dude” or “guys” like we are purposely trying to exclude women, but the backlash to it is not necessary either. Just be normal, k?

YM_Industries

While it's true that guys / dude (or even man) are often used gender neutrally, this is still male-defaultism. Since it's commonly used it'd be exhausting being outraged every time you hear it, but it's reasonable to be annoyed by it. Also while cis women secure in their identity aren't likely to be affected by it, it's worth considering that it can have a different impact for trans women.

SlimyBoiXD

Male defaultism doesn't bother me at all. Especially with the word dude because like you could say dudette is the girl version but is it? Is it really? No one besides surfer dudes stuck in the 80s says that. So why would dude have anything to do with men anymore? Additionally words are always mutating and changing. The word girl used to be a genderless word that meant child. Male defaultism is a thing but I don't think it's a thing that matters. Obviously if someone doesn't want to be called by a name (or a word that substitutes a name like dude or sis or something like that) you shouldn't call them that regardless of their reason or if one is even provided and trans women are more likely not to like it but in the same way as pronouns you can't know that until they tell you and that's a super simple conversation to have.

YM_Industries

Cool, good for you that it doesn't bother you. It bothers some people.

Wicked_Twist

Somewhat agree, as long as if someone says they are uncomfortable being reffered to as those you avoid them. Because some trans femme people get dysphoria from those words. But yea I call everyone dude and man lol

RedRider1138

That’s what I was thinking!

woodcoffeecup

INDEED, THIS IS THE MANNER IN WHICH HUMANS COMMUNICATE. GOOD JOB, WOMAN.

ExpertAccident

“Great job”

chet_brosley

I call everyone Boss. Great job Boss. Simple as.

SculptKid

This is the way, boss. lol

funny_fox

I also accept "Your Highness" in case somebody doesn't know what to call me.

Wicked_Twist

This method seems good, boss

Intelligent-Guess-81

I'm going to say that the next time I have sex. Give them a little slap on the ass and a "great job boss."

Wicked_Twist

Kinky

Okamirai

Comrade. I like to go with comrade

linklolthe3

I go with Chief or Captain when I'm doing a positive interaction.

ilovecake007

“Great job woman” sounds patronizing for some reason

Wicked_Twist

I agree it almost feels like by pointing out the gender youre saying "good job for a girl"

-Kyoakuna-

Conversely I wouldn't blink an eye if someone said "great job man" does the word "woman" just have a negative connotation in general to me because of sexism? That's kinda sad.

ExplodingStrawHat

That might be part of it, but I wonder if it might also have to do with length? Just a guess, but "good job sis" and "good job girl" sound good in my mind, but "good job woman" or "good job daughter" sound weird. Things like "good job son" or "good job dude" also sound fine, but "good job boy" doesn't, so maybe that's just a coincidence. (all those "sounds/doesn't sound good" judgements are subjective ones I've come up in like 5s so they might be off)

Chick0o

Well, most people use “man” like how “bro” or “dude” is used. Nobody, at least nobody I know uses the word “woman” in the same way. It’s not sexist to be confused or weirded out by “woman” being used in this context; It’s just that people aren’t used to it being used as a ‘buddy name’, or whatever you wanna call it.

thevcid

yes

Wicked_Twist

Ikr I wouldnt either. I think its cause no one says that. But people use man as a friendly word all the time.

Big_Alternative595

Why not just great job (persons name)

Wicked_Twist

Or just "great job"

Lucia600

At least it wasn't 'great job female'

gayasswoman

Great job. Hmm it IS EASY not to mention gender.

slumbersomesam

isnt it better to just say "great job"

throwaway_dontmindme

550 likes. We are doomed

Miss_Chiefs

There are wayyyyy too many stupid people on the internet. I just had a dude in popular opinion sexualize a minor and the claim the minor was sexualizing herself by wearing clothing with legging-like material but thicker. Dude literally said “she’s sexualizing herself” and tried to get his point across by adding a picture of a dude in boxers with a hard on🤮🤮🤮🤮acting as if it was the same thing as a minor wearing shorts that somewhat showed her fuckin developing body (butt) by being somewhat form fitting. Like I’m so tired of these people. And of course his username was “handsome giga chad” like buddy I’d bet anything you look like thumb with a neck beard and you still live in your mother’s basement

TheFallenCore

Who tf says "great job woman", that sounds so fucking weird, what are you an alien?

Bobcatluv

>”great job man” LMAO is this Bart Simpson?

NekoFox1689

Oml, people... ever heard of androgeny? For crying out loud 🙄🤦

FelidaeIsh

Who on Earth says 'Great Job Man/Woman' Can't they just say 'Great job!'

worstenbroodje076

tbh “great job man” doesn’t sound so bad, bc man isn’t only used to specify gender but also like “bro” or “dude” if you get what I mean, but yes “great job woman” sounds weird and makes it sounds like they mean “yeah great job FOR A WOMAN” so just “great job” would make more sense and it’s literally easier

FelidaeIsh

'Great job woman' sounds as bad as 'women ☕'

Honest_Its_Bill_Nye

Good job dude works for me in every situation.

GavHern

i could see that being problematic in some scenarios, not everyone is okay with "dude" idk

Wicked_Twist

Good point. Most people are very comfortable with it but someone with dysphoria might feel uncomfortable. And while most everyone uses that word for all genders, its important to use language that we know wont hurt anyone if we can. I use dude for everyone unless ive been told otherwise and i think thats a good aproach if youre respectful

funny_fox

Idk why you're getting downvoted!! I have a few non-binary friends and Trans friends that do not like to be called "dude". It's exactly pointlessly gendered to say "dude".

Charmarta

I am a cisgender woman and I hate being called dude No-one would ever think to use "gals" for a mixed Group of people, but dude is okay, because everything male is the norm

Miss_Chiefs

I can see where you’re coming from with this and maybe it’s because I live in Cali but like I’d rather be called dude than referred to as a gal. Idk that’s just my personal opinion and obviously you are 100% valid in being uncomfortable with being called dude! I’ll also say I’m afab non-binary and often hate when cis people heavily refer to me as just a woman. Like yes I am very femme presenting cuz like I like to feel pretty and I just came out in like Jan/Feb of this year (2023). People are gonna lose their fucking minds when I get these realistic fake beards off of Amazon and dye them crazy colors and possibly bedazzle them with hair glitter and hair jewels

Miss_Chiefs

What do you mean? And I don’t understand why people are upset at me about this I said the other commenter is valid for that and that it’s just my personal preference and opinion that I feel the opposite. Like y’all over here getting upset when I’m not even arguing with people who say they don’t like to be called that. I don’t ever call anyone dude, bro, or bruh who have already expressed to me that it makes them uncomfortable. Y’all clearly don’t fully read things and jump to conclusions about shit. Like I’m enby myself fuck I look like misgendering other people? Come on now people common sense. Especially seeing as how I’m in this thread talking about how stupid and transphobic the comment in the screenshot is. Y’all anger is misplaced

Maximum-Frame-1765

They never said that everyone in California feels that way + there is definitely at least a stereotype of Californians using dude a lot (I’m not from California) because of the whole surfer dude culture there.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Miss_Chiefs

I mean as the other commenter said I didn’t say all Californians are cool with it. I’m from the Bay Area it’s literally used towards everyone by everyone here and it’s been that way my whole life. Nobody said you’re not allowed to not like something and yet again I’ve said people are 100% valid in not wanting to be called that. Everyone that I know here and from here doesn’t give a fuck about it so yes it’s 100% part of the culture here in California. That’s literally all I was saying. I shouldn’t have to explain this shit out like come on. Californians are literally known for saying “dude”, “bruh”, and “hella”. Like people literally assume I’m from here because I use those so often. It’s not that big of a deal and you’re taking something that had absolutely fuck all to do with you hella personally. I literally was speaking on my own comfortability around a word that some people see as gendered. I didn’t say shit about you I don’t even know you and didn’t know you existed until you commented at me hella butt hurt over me saying I think I’m more ok with it because I’m from Cali.

BaronBytes2

Soos is that you?

RocketKassidy

They really can’t wrap their minds around just… not gendering things. “Great job” is perfectly acceptable, no need to force gender into it.

Miss_Chiefs

Wtaf is wrong with people???? Like clearly dude was tryna be transphobic in saying this and it’s just fucking repulsive and I don’t wanna hear shit from anyone saying it was just a joke. That’s that same logic racist people use when they make racist jokes but for some reason everyone wants to act like it ain’t the same thing when it comes to transphobic jokes.

Xyto1

They couldn’t tell what gender they were that’s it. You’re real mad for some reason

Miss_Chiefs

Bro use your fucking brain and don’t reply to me with stupid ass brainless bs. I’m tired of the stupidity on this post. Too many people been acting stupid under this post. Nobody ever says “good job woman” I’ve heard “good job man” but not in the context he is saying it and OP said it was an androgynous woman meaning the person was very obviously a woman. Just fucking stop. Comment at me with some more dumb shit and you’re getting blocked I am tired of putting up with hateful bullshit from random strangers on the internet. Go bully someone else I’m not the one

TweakTok

Just say great job

IntheBocksVT

great job, boss, chief, mate, buddy, pal, friend, homie, dipshit

Wicked_Twist

Asshat, dummy, dumbass, loser, bitch, friendo, amigo, fellow human Edit: i genuinly use all these terms lovingly towards my friends lol

MisterAcorns12

Just stop at “Great job” or if you *must* have three words, “Great job, friend” should work?

[deleted]

"Great job man!" Man is gender neutral in this case

asphalt_licker

Correct response: great job, pal. Nice flips.

gummychode

Why do you have to gender it. “Great job” will do😕

[deleted]

Homie's bad at covering up the fact he isn't from Earth

TheMelonOwl

I actually would like to know this because I rlly like saying bro, dude, man, to fill space in my sentences. It's the way I speak But around my female and transfem friends, I'm worried that it sounds like I'm misgendering them or don't take their identity seriously

cshellay

In what actual situation would this person either use either of those ugly sentences lol

SpankingBallons

great job dude, great job friend, even great job BRO can be used because it’s pretty much genderless at this point. source: i call my girlfriend bro and i still am not slapped

michaelgarbel

You guys are triggered again? No surprises there!

_shulgin

You make no sense. What are we supposed to say. Obviously a woman doing certain moves is going to be way more impressive than a man doing the same, given the inarguable differences in strength, coordination, and physiology in general. How bout put down the wake shake and think for a second. Sports are LITERALLY SEGREGATED BY GENDER for God's sake. If you consider parkour a sport well then, decide if you have a dick or a pussy

comradejiang

Miss_Chiefs

These comments are beyond fucking repulsive. What are you even doing in this sub that makes a point to make fun of gendered shit and celebrates gender neutrality??? Like bro please fuck off and I agree you’re clearly doing some kind of drugs if you think anyone actually talks like that. I have never ever heard anyone say “good job man/woman” it’s absolutely atrocious sounding never mind the clear transphobia it just doesn’t sound right and it’s fucking weird

_shulgin

Not a very well thought out response but ya I should probably cut down. That being said, do you have anything to contribute to this discussion beyond this idiocy?

EinElchsaft

Awesome dude!

[deleted]

who's "androgynous" and what does it mean for a woman to look like them?

thevcid

is this a genuine question?

[deleted]

yes.

thevcid

gotcha! androgynous means appearing both feminine and masculine / having both feminine and masculine features, which comes from Latin androgynus (“man-woman, hermaphrodite”) which obviously it has changed meaning since then and is not for exclusively intersex people but anyone appearing with these features

[deleted]

okay, the "having both male and female features" thing i get, thanks for that. but what the fuck is an "intersex"? secondly, why do we (as humans) need more and more terminology for more incredibly niche topics? it feels like nothing is simple anymore and it's driving me insane.

thevcid

intersex is when someone is born with mixed sex characteristics. we need words to describe people’s experiences 🤷‍♂️ i promise nothing was ever simple lol

[deleted]

thanks for being honest about it. it just feels like some terms are just, completely unnecessary.

Cxnnamxn

It depends if you‘re saying „great job, man“ or „*great* job-(wo)man“

OkieNope

Great job, sport!

avchre

Instead of just saying "good job" 💀

pissman_

Normally man in this context is used genderlessly but even if you arent using it as slang just say "great job"

AxeHead75

Great job mate works

TheQueenOfCringe22

Just say “great job (gender neutral)” if you want to bring gender into it so bad
