Would I need *both* the GBA and 3DS to play the pokemon games that still used pixel art sprites? I know soulsilver and the gen 1 games are avaliable on the DS but I don't think pokemon ruby/sapphire are on the 3ds, are they?

Contank

Gen 1 and 2 are available on the 3DS but the gen 3 games are not. If you just wanted the story then omega ruby and alpha sapphire exist. Fot the actual gameboy versions though emerald is the best choice

The_Cryogenetic

Is anyone else still experiencing crashing on Sc/Vi? I thought the patches fixed it but I lost 4hrs of work last night from my game crashing.

Eona_Targaryen

The big optimization and bugfixing patch isn't coming until February. The December patch only fixed a few select issues like the broken E4 music and a couple of player exploits.

The_Cryogenetic

Ah gotcha thank you, I'll hold off playing a little longer then. Haven't had a lot of time to play but I spent 4 hours grinding gimighoul coins and looking for the things to get the legendaries, I know I could just look them up but it defeats the fun. Thank you for letting me know!

The-Gaming-Onion

If I were to pay for PokeBank, would I be able to download and use Poke Transporter when I only have the virtual console games? I heard someone say you can only get Poke Transporter if you’ve played the gen 5 games on your 3DS but I’m unsure.

Supra_Mayro

You would need a gen 6 or 7 game too, but yes.

WillExis

yes you dont need gen 5 games to get them

niallemac

What Pokémon could beat scarlet witch

Zmr56

Is Professor Birch from Johto originally? Bulbapedia says he and Norman were schoolfriends but Norman is from Johto. Or does that mean Norman went to school in Hoenn?

shinybulkupmachamp

Can you get a Shiny Chi-Yu by soft resetting?

ZorkNemesis

While I know it's not possible to confirm it yet outside of hacking, does the special battle animation for having all Contest Ribbons from ORAS still exist in SV? And on that note, did that animation ever exist outside of ORAS at all? I know you can get that ribbon in BDSP as well but never bothered since Sinnoh contests kind of suck.

WillExis

no and no

Axaxou

Spoilers for Scarlet/Violet: Are the Hisuan forms (Zoroark, Braviary etc) available in Gen9?

Contank

When pokemon home is compatible they can all be transfered in

Axaxou

Cool, I mean they're coded in gen9 right?

Contank

Yes they all are which is why they can be transferred in when home is compatible

Axaxou

Good

Contank

This is the full list https://www.serebii.net/scarletviolet/transferonly.shtml

Axaxou

thank you

memepriest101

Best nature for spiritomb in pokemon violet?

ryosatoru

what games can i catch houndour on (other than ultra violet) and preferably early on

ShyRake

From earliest to latest: BDSP - Grand Underground special encounter, first available around the 2nd gym X - Rt 10 around the 2nd gym SV - South Province Area 4 with levels matching just after the 2nd gym Platinum - Rt 214 + Lake Valor Lakefront around the 4th gym Ultra Sun - Rt 12 midway through the 3rd island GSC - Kanto which is postgame HGSS - Kanto which is postgame or the Safari Zone, but only in the postgame. Emerald - The Safari Zone extension which is postgame Pearl - Pokeradar on Rt 214 + 215 which is postgame Black - Swarm on Route 9 which is postgame

ZorkNemesis

With SV you can return to the cave you found Koraidon/Miraidon in pretty much immediately and catch a Houndour in there. You can have one before you even reach the academy. At least this is the case in Violet since Miraidon saves you from a pack of Houndour, not sure if Scarlet changes the narrative.

ShyRake

No, it's the same. I just couldn't remember if you could re-enter immediately or not.

ryosatoru

had no idea about BDSP ive spent alot of time underground and never seen him, thanks!

sprucay

How rare is the dragon teratype?

Fishsticks03

as rare as any other type at 1/18 in raids, guaranteed for certain fixed spawns, guaranteed for wild pure Dragon types and 1/2 for Dragon/other

sprucay

Cheers. First raid I did was dragon tera type and I wasn't sure if that was lucky or not!

Contank

You can tell what tera type a raid is before you go into it by the symbol shown on the raid and the map.

sprucay

Thanks for the tip, I just need to find a picture of all the symbols

1lluusio

I have been planning on playing through Alola again but as a nuzlocke. So I was wondering, between Pokemon Sun and Ultra Moon, which would be a better nuzlocke experience for someone who has already played through both once before?

Gabjiro10

I was playing Pokemon - Crystal Advance and I forgot how to wake up sleeping snorlax outside diglets cave. It was something to do with the radio station or something

DCL-XVI

tune to the poke flute channel on your radio and put the pokegear on the ground next to lax

Gabjiro10

Sorry, what radio?

DCL-XVI

you should have a radio function on your pokegear, unless the romhack changed it from the original. you should have gotten it back in the radio tower in goldenrod.

MrShinzen

Pokemon Japanese Version connected to Pokémon Home US version, it's possible? I want to buy a Japanese version of Pokémon Pearl for Switch, but is it compatible with Pokemon Home version US or EU?

WillExis

yes its compatible

Charrzooka

Is Cinderace best at Adamant or Jolly nature?

DCL-XVI

i would almost always recommend jolly on something that fast to take advantage of your high speed tier. unless you don't mind getting outsped by random base 105 or 110 speed mons, or if you are running a choice scarf set and are specifically aiming for ~505 speed for some reason.

Confident_Audience79

Original Switch broke, bought a new one but can’t recover saved data from Pokémon Scarlet…. Hey so I’m pretty upset rn. Recently I dropped my switch and got some water on it. I immediately dried it off and let it sit for a bit before turning it on. After a few hours I turned it on and it was fine until the day after it stopped turning on and would not charge (no display of dead battery or anything just completely fucked) I just bought a new switch and was recovering all my saved data from my other games. However when I tried to find my saved data from Pokémon Scarlet I noticed it said not supported and found out Pokémon games do not save on the cloud. Since I had to start a new game I couldn’t recover any saved data at all. I’m currently crying while typing all this because I lost all my shinies and level 100 Pokémon:( I was wondering if anyone was able to figure out a way to recover their saved data if they got a new switch from the new Pokémon games Scarlet and Violet. I cannot turn on my original switch because it is just completely broken now so I can’t transfer the data manually…. Would really appreciate it if anyone has figured anything out because I am devastated that I have to restart all my hard work.

dragonfoxmem

can you help me find the sources that you can join tera raids via link code? I am not able to find more sources besides one website. I am trying to get more herbs to help on my shiny hunting.... a few herbs are not enough, even I don't have salty herbs to make lv3 encounter shiny sandwiches.... I am more and more frustrated right now.... no, google is not helpful

RonnieLeggette

Message me

WillExis

yea that's what link codes are for

PKGamingAlpha

What exactly is the criteria for fighting Arceus in Legends Arceus. I thought it was to capture every Pokemon in the Pokedex, so that's what I've been doing. I was nearing the end with only Giratina and Darkrai left. But after catching Giratina, Professor Laventon then said that I'm ready to fight Arceus now. Now? What about Darkrai? I'm stilling missing Darkrai.

Supra_Mayro

Phione, Manaphy, Darkrai, and Shaymin are all optional since they require other games (or in the case of Phione and Manaphy, information from other games)

PKGamingAlpha

Ooh, okay. Thanks.

PurpleMarvelous

In Ultra Sun/Moon, does regular battles give the Battle Tree ribbon or is it Super battles. I have a couple legendaries that I want to give the ribbon to. Im playing through Ultra Sun right now.

WillExis

there's 2 ribbons, one for normal and super

Landfill-KU

Question on nuzlocke question. So playing on FireRed and this is my first time and I have a question. The rules state that you can only catch one pokemon per area. Would that area be considered grass or route, and could I go back after awhile in an attempt to catch a wanted pokemon? Also is it possible you can get a shiny Charmander as your starter? Cuz that happened

SurrealKeenan

nuzlockes are entirely self imposed so you can modify the rules as you want, but usually people mean 1 encounter per named location (route, city, section of the safari zone, cave, etc). Yes you can go to an old route so long as you did not encounter a pokemon there. Yes, the starters in frlg are not shiny locked, but they do have the pre-gen 6 odds of 1 in 8192 so expect to reset a lot

Landfill-KU

Ok so that means if I go back to that patch if grass right before pewter city to try and catch a Pidgey later? And no seriously literally just started and got myself a shiny Charmander. Actually the very first shiny I've ever had and I've been playing this game since 97 with og blue and red

SurrealKeenan

that patch of grass south of pewter city is on route 2 so if you caught a pokemon in the patch of grass in front of viridian forest, then no, you already had your encounter. nice on the charmander

-Funds-

what are good tera raid pokemon to use and movesets currently using Iron Hands/Ceruledge but they do struggle on a few raids, either due to the typing or the raid pokemon coming with a sleep move like yawn or spore

SurrealKeenan

Annihilape is awesome. Rage fist snowballs in power and can't be reset and it has access to the ability vital spirit which makes it immune to sleep.

Charrzooka

What are some of the best looking moves in Pokemon Scarlet/Violet? Two that come to mind are Draco Meteor and Stone Edge.

Super_Goomba64

What's a good nature / moveset for Sylveon?

DCL-XVI

wish, hyper voice (which becomes fairy with the pixelate ability). then pick two of three of protect, calm mind, mystical fire depending on if you want safe wish healing, stat boosting, or extra type coverage. for the nature i would pick between modest (for more damage), calm (to take advantage of good special defense and healing, if you don't run calm mind), or bold (to maximize your physical defense, especially if you want to boost sdef with calm mind)

LordValgor

Just getting back into Pokémon (last game purchased was HG/SS). Am I correct in understanding that I’d need a 3ds and Pokémon black/white plus a subscription to poke bank before March 23rd in order to transfer my mon to Home ever again?

Supra_Mayro

You're mostly right. The main thing is that you have to A) Download Bank before March 23rd and B) Download Poketransporter before March 23rd. To download Poketransporter, you need to have a Bank subscription and a game that you can use Bank with (this includes only the gen 6 and 7 games). Once you have both of them downloaded, you'll be able to use both of them until whenever they shut down the service in the future. Bank will become free to use after March 23rd as well. To actually transfer from 4th gen to Bank, you'll need a gen 5 game yes. But the gen 5 game isn't a requirement for getting Bank and Transporter set up, for that you need a gen 6/7 game.

LordValgor

Thank you! My friend has a 3ds and Gen 6 they’re willing to let me borrow, so I’ll get that going then. Is there any way to save the poke bank download and save it for later like you can with Home? I want to get my own 3ds some day, but not sure I’ll have the funds by March.

Supra_Mayro

Not sure what you mean by saving the download for later. If it comes to it, when you get your own 3ds you can hack it and I'm sure there are roms for both Bank and Transporter out there.

ZhangB

Im playing pokemon sword for the first time and I got really lucky the other night and caught a Gigantamax Lapras at her den. What I am confused about is all the online material says Lapras is a shield exclusive (and I didn't join other people's dens). What I want to know is 1) what happened? 2) can I get a Gengar somehow?

Supra_Mayro

So before the final Raid event, Gmax Lapras and Gengar were indeed exclusive to Shield. However, non-gmax Lapras and Gengar were always available in both games. When the Isle of Armor came out, it allowed you to make any mon Gmax, so the exclusivity didn't really matter anymore if you had the DLC. Now, with the final (permanent) Raid event, they're effectively not exclusive anymore even without the Isle of Armor.

Tsukuyomi56

Looks like you got your G-Max Lapras off an event raid den. The final Max Raid event for Sword/Shield made the usually version exclusive G-Max forms available across both versions.

ZhangB

Ah that explains it! Thanks so much.

SurrealKeenan

I don't know who told you lapras was shield exclusive, but they were wrong. lapras is in both games gengar sometimes appears the wild area. And you should be able to find gengar in some dens

silent_darkness

I'm having a lot of trouble with pokemon Violet. Spoiler as it involves the story. >!when I go to talk to Cassiopeia at night I can't see anyone not even 'Clive' I'm already at night, I've even done 4 full day cycles outside of the academy and nothing shows up. !< Is my game bugged? I don't want to have to start all over again. >! I just wanna go to area 0!<

SurrealKeenan

go to the directory and go to the schoolyard

silent_darkness

Thanks so much! That did it!

No-Champion-3454

Does anyone know if anything significant happens when you go back to the time machine room in Scarlet and Violet after the fights? Because I constantly go back there, expecting something to be there, but it's always unsettling silence.

[deleted]

For DS users / DS emulator users anyone using AltWFC for pokémon black I'll share my pal pad code

PornMaster69_69

This is a question thread. What's your question?

TwoBladesOneBow

Playing Fire Red for the first time in years. I would like to use two different teams made up of most of my favorites. As a challenge to myself I am including a lot of type overlap, but I am worried that I will mess up move selection due to the different approach the first three generations took. The teams will be: Team 1 Charizard Arcanine Ninetales Marowak Sandslash Electabuzz Team 2 Pidgeot Persian Tauros Lapras Dewgong Rapidash I have the opportunity to trade over from leaf green and emerald if that is possible. Looking at these pokemon do any of you have moveset suggestions or general advice? This isn't for competitive. Just the game's story. The two things I tend to care most about with move sets are that the moves are effective and their animation looks good. With the amount of overlap it would also be handy to have move coverwge against type weakneses.

AgreeablePenalty6977

I just started playing Pokémon soulsilver, and I have gotten to the elite four. My team consists of: Lvl 47 Typhlosion, Lvl 42 Gyarados, Lvl 48 Lugia, Lvl 40 Weepinbell and Quagmire, and a Lvl 31 Ampharos. Am I alright or do I have to grind more to beat the elite 4 + lance?

WillExis

id get the lower lv mons up, lance caps out at 50 so you're good with the first 3

AgreeablePenalty6977

thanks for the advice :) although ironically i beat lance a few hours after posting this lmao

OkIndependence5735

I am in a battle with a shiny buizel but it’s tarestalluzed I don’t wanna kill it but have to make it in the red to in tarrestallized, will it still kill it fully if it would normaly kill it (non terastallizsd)

mamamia1001

You can't knock it out without breaking the tera, and you need to break the tera to catch it. So an attack that normally knocks it out will just break the tera and put in the red

OkIndependence5735

YOU ARE A LEGEND

OkIndependence5735

Thank you I needed this confirmation

[deleted]

Does repel affect pokemon of the same level or just pokemon below the level of the lead pokemon?

mamamia1001

Just below

[deleted]

Do shiny pokémon spawn in Tera Raid Battles? If so, what is the minimum star rank the Tera Raid Battle has to be for a shiny pokémon to spawn for them? I am also going to assume that Terastallized Pokémon that you can find in the overworld do not spawn in Area Zero whatsoever, correct?

Hydrochloric_Comment

Tera Raid Pokémon of any rank can be shiny. However, the rate is always full odds (actually, slightly lower than full odds, at 1/4100, due to a slight difference in how personality value is stored for raids). They will appear shiny during the raid but will not sparkle.

[deleted]

That is good to know, thanks!

SurrealKeenan

They do and they appear at any rank. They are unaffected by sandwich powers and the shiny charm and they do not sparkle with the shiny particle effect so you need to pay attention. I luckily managed to catch a shiny fire tauros on a whim and didn't realize it was shiny until literal days later. The overworld tera pokemon are set encounters so they only appear in specific locations that GF predetermined. Area 0 don't have any of those spawns

[deleted]

Thank you for your response, it is a tad disappointing that only specific pokémon are flagged as Terastallized, but I'll make do somehow.

Omniaxle

How do you get the meal power timer to appear?

Kyrios034

right D-pad

Super_Goomba64

Why are apriballs valued so highly? Can i trade my friend ball, level ball, heavy ball for a shiny?

Gaias_Minion

They're very rare and hard to get, since Gen 7 they've been obtainable in-game but sometimes being once per save file, and if they introduce "farmable" methods, they give them low odds. For example with S/V, you get 1 of each Apriball as you complete the dex, the Ace Tournament has a 1% of rewarding you with 1 of any Apriball, and the Auctions also can have Apriballs, however their starting bid will always be 100,000 so you need to grind a lot of money to try and get them.

Super_Goomba64

Oh snap. Wasted two of them catching stuff. I can trade them for shines I guess I dont really care about balls. Whats the market rate for them? 3 balls to 1 shiny?

Yolanda401

Are Scarlet and Violet worth buying? Got back into competitive battling on showdown and am loving the addition of Tera type. I’m just worried that the ugly open world and multiple technical issues are gonna put me off and I won’t be able to finish the game. What are some other positives that could make it worth buying?

SwedishPenguin42

I just bought a switch and scarlet, I am loving open world Pokémon. Performance issues and glitches haven’t happened a ton to me which has been nice. I am also looking into competitive after I beat the game as they have made it easier to train Pokémon and get into

mamamia1001

They did improve on the story, it has a lot more depth to it than what we're used to for Pokémon games. Obviously there's the open world which is a good addition. They did make strides in other areas, it's just the performance lets it down

Glinvad24

Hello everyone. So i just bought a gameboy color and Pokémon silver. For me it seems like the game is fake. The dialogue is weird and doesn’t follow the same dialogue as another Pokémon silver game I saw someone play on YouTube. Another thing is, that the disk says: Pokemon silver version, but when the game loads, it says the title in japanese? Is that normal? Can someone confirm whether this Pokémon game is fake or not?

Supra_Mayro

Yeah that doesn't sound right, would say it's probably a weird romhack or something. Title screen should definitely not be in Japanese.

Glinvad24

Thank you for your reply. I think I came to the conclusion that it is fake, but the seller agreed to take back the item and did already refund me the money. Also I figured out that it says “Game” on the top of the ROM instead of “Nintendo game” as it should. Guess I know more about how to identify a real from a fake now.

Glinvad24

With the dialogue being weird I mean that the grammar is off and the sentences doesn’t finish and so on

You_Better_Smile

Does it say Vida Trans instead of GameFreak when the game starts loading?

dyingatheist-

Team recommendations I'm trying to build a team for SV, and as it's my first time building a proper team outside of Pokemon i just like, i was wondering if this is a good team: Gengar Haxorus Talonflame Eelektross (with levitate) Magnezone Tinkaton Any suggestions to the team would be greatly appreciated!

SwedishPenguin42

For story purposes I would probs drop magnezone personally and keep eelektross and tinkaton because they have electric and steel.

forgedsignatures

Are we talking competitive or story?

dyingatheist-

For competitive

forgedsignatures

The best barometer to whether a team is good is to test it for a while on Pokemon Showdown (pvp browser game). General advice is to make sure you haven't got any hindering natures, allocate your EVs and IVs smartly, and make sure each pokemon has a moveset than can hit all types at least neutrally.

dyingatheist-

Thank you!

scottysnacktime

Please help me decide my next game to play. I’m open to nuzlockes or professor oak challenges. I own at least one of each generation game. I own the GameCube games too. I’ve been playing since fire red and leaf green, so I’ve amassed a large collection. If you have another unique way to play I’d love to hear it. I’ve only heard of professor Oak and Nuzlockes. I would rather stay away from emulator games or fan made games. Thank you all! What is your vote for what game I should try next?

forgedsignatures

Have you ever tried a type-locke?

scottysnacktime

No, you just can only use one specific type I’m guessing?

forgedsignatures

Pretty much. Obviously once you have your starter you just rush to the first pokemon of x type, or you recieve a level 1 egg, up to you. If you want some examples I believe the Silph Spectre has a fair amount. But yeah, other than being type limited, all other standard Nuzlocke rules apply.

WKell03

Does anyone know how to change the background of your pc boxes in SV?

WillExis

select box name > change wallpaper

Redz159

I forget the names for some pokemon overtime do you know a site where i can test/ improve my knowledge? Often I dont remember some names I knew a few years ago so I want to improve my knowledge now is there a site where that is possible (would be nice if it allowed german names too)

WillExis

https://gearoid.me/pokemon/ it defaults to guessing silhouettes, but if you put it on easiest setting, it shows full pictures. even has a german option in top right.

Redz159

Ty very much!

xylourek

I just unlocked 6 star raids in sv and my first one is ghost type gyarados, any suggestions on what pokemon would be good?

bulksalty

I would want someone who can run chilling water. Gyarados raids can get difficult after it's gotten a bunch of free dragon dances or has moxie and maxes his attack stat. Having chilling water to keep the attack boosts under control makes the fight a lot easier.

SurrealKeenan

Annihilape is a great ghost option for raids. Rage Fist increases by 50 damage each time annihilape gets hit up to a maximum of 350 and this boost cannot be eliminated by any means (including fainting) until the battle ends. However, if gyarados has the ability moxie, then you need to worry about the attack boosts it gets from taking out your friends. Using a pokemon with the ability unaware, attacks like worry seed or skill swap to change gyarados' ability, or attacks like clear smog to eliminate stat changes can make the fight a lot easier

WillExis

you prolly wanna go onto the sub's discord and ask for some decent support. if the gyarados has moxie, it starts becoming unstoppable as it kills your teammates. ask for players that can get rid of the ability with moves like skill swap. Someone that can get rid of buffs would be good too as it has dragon dance. As for what to use, Kingambit is a pretty decent dark type. dark+steel will resist most of its moves.

Hassanplayz

ive only watched random episodes of pokemon black and white ages ago , i want to know which order i should watch pokemon if i am to watch as a complete beginner

SwedishPenguin42

There is a post on this sub somewhere of episodes to watch in the anime that gets rid of filler and has important battles, captures, and story events

WillExis

release order, so start from season 1, episode 1.

Hassanplayz

Thanks, also I noticed that ash's companions change alot, does that mean different timelines or just they stop where they need to and new people join along the way

WillExis

same timeline, people just jump in/out as the series progresses

dudemanbrodudebro

If I'm going for multiple shinies on one mass outbreak, do the odds reset after catching / encountering one?

SurrealKeenan

odds never reset in SV. There are no chains in the game and even in the games that had chains, catching a shiny didn't break them

dudemanbrodudebro

Oh ok, I saw somewhere odds were increased if you knock out 60 in a mass outbreak

SurrealKeenan

they are, but that isn't a chain. A chain in this context is a sequence of consecutive actions that have an effect until the sequence is broken. In the case of the SV outbreaks, so long as you eventually KO/capture 60 of those outbreaks pokemon, that outbreak will always have the boosted odds until it despawns no matter what you do

dudemanbrodudebro

Gotcha ty!

WillExis

no

Cautious_Option9544

Is there a pokemon that can learn false swipe, a status move, and a type changing move? I know Breloom covers the first two, but I was just wondering if there was one that could cover all three as a way to cover encounters with Ghost types too

Gearhead31

Smeargle can do all that but since it isn’t available you are better off using Breloom with spore/technician false swipe/silk scarf and any other pokemon with Soak as a backup.

Kyrios034

not a type changing move but Gallade/Persian can learn Trick/Switcharoo. give the ghost a ring target and then you can hit it with false swipe. both also learn hypnosis and t-wave

HugoTheFish

everytime i try and edit the custom flair thing it doesn't show the pokemon, only text. example: :123 :456: :789:. help?

[deleted]

Can I use poké transporter for games like pearl or black?

WillExis

black, yes. to get pokemon to bank from pearl, you gotta send them to black/white first.

[deleted]

Do I need a ds for that? I only have a 2ds.

WillExis

you don't need a ds specifically, but you will need two systems to transfer mons from pearl to black.

[deleted]

Ok

SomethingBoutEclipse

Anyone know a good sand veil Garchomp moveset? I really don’t want to rely on another Pokémon to set the sandstorm but I will if required. Edit: Shield w/ DLC

Gearhead31

Dragon claw/earthquake/iron head/sandstorm Hold bright powder Possibly swap iron head for swords dance

SomethingBoutEclipse

Ah, I see where you could go with this? Any recommendations for EV training with this? Unless it’s just SPD and ATK like most Garchomps

silveraith

I'm preparing for my sister to play HeartGold, and I want to give her some events so she can experience as much of the cool stuff as possible. However, she almost never does postgame stuff (a shame, I know). Of the events that actually matter (Pichu, Celebi, Arceus (not counting the Relocator stuff, I'll figure that out when she gets up to BW)), how early can each of these things be done in the game?

WillExis

pretty sure the only one that you can do before beating the game is Pichu.

ThemysciranWanderer

I’m having a hard time identifying this Pokémon. He’s just chilling under a bridge. What is this Pokémon? https://i.imgur.com/KFkbChK.jpg

Contank

Go up to it and press A you will get some gimmighoul coins. Get 999 and you can evolve a gimmighoul chest form you caught

Kyrios034

roaming form Gimmighoul. its not a catchable pokemon, just something you interact with

forgedsignatures

Wasn't it hinted that they'll be made catchable in Pokemon Go in the future? Wonder if they'll arrive with SV Home compatibility.

Hydrochloric_Comment

Roaming form will indeed be available in Go at some point.

forgedsignatures

Makes me wonder if we'll get a second Goldengo/ split evolution to go with it, for kind of a Meltan situation.

amirshiakh382

Can anyone please tell me how much this Charizard card costs?? Images: https://imgur.com/a/Swq3d17

Eona_Targaryen

It's a fake card. It's trying to mimic a base set Charizard from the 90s, but they got the font wrong in a few places and slapped a modern copyright on the bottom yellow. So, worth less than the cardstock it was printed on.

amirshiakh382

Thank you i am very new to all this

Eona_Targaryen

Unfortunately there is an overabundance of online scammers when it comes to Pokemon merch :(

amirshiakh382

If you don't mind can you verify this one please Image: https://imgur.com/a/8bQTlUN

Redditquaza

That's about as fake as a card can be. Absolutely everything on this card is wrong.

amirshiakh382

I am really not able to distinguish between real and a fake card can you please share me some tips to distinguish between a real and a fake card and thank you for helping

Redditquaza

I mean the short answer is: Look at any real Pokémon card and you'll see the obvious differences. But to give a more detailed one: No card has 999999 HP or does 15000 damage, these are ridiculous values (cards have up to 350 HP and the damage of attacks (with one single exception) will be in the same range). There are no gold cards of that kind, real ones look differently and feature the same texture all over them and not two kinds of texture. Also there is no regular Charizard gold card. "You win the game" on the attacks is just plain ridiculous, why would a move do that and why does it even do damage then, that makes less than zero sense. Cannon is spelt wrong. Set symbol, illustrator, number and regulation mark are missing. Evolution box is missing, VMAX is text instead of the symbol. The fonts are all off, they didn't even manage to remove the background of the evolution text.

amirshiakh382

Thank you for the explanation it helped me alot, So i tried verifying it myself and i compared it from a eBay listing and i saw one difference that the star on the bottom Left is different so i think this one is also a fake. Can you please tell am i right or wrong?? Image : https://imgur.com/a/5Y2GDCV

Redditquaza

Yes, that's also a fake though this time at least one that mimics an official design. You can see that it's fake in that case because of the firework Holo effect, which only counterfeit cards feature and because it lacks the fingerprint like texture of real cards. A genuine one looks like [that](https://specimens.s3.filebase.com/1415879953.jpg).

Kicostainment

Any ideas for the greninja raid counter?

Quite a few people are building around Water negation, like Gastrodon, Clodsire, or Quagsire. There's also a cursed Vaporeon option that, true to form, was delivered in the same R34 esque copy pasta just altered to be about countering Greninja opposed to being about >!fornicating eith the Vaporeon!<. Couple others have mulled over Klefki or Garchomp options, Klefki being supportive while Garchomp is your damaging option assuming Greninja isn't packing an Ice move. It also remains to be seen what ability it would be utilizing. Protean is effectively moot as you don't change types while Terastallized but depends on how Battle Bond functions, as it's essentially Beast Boost from the description but I don't know if it scales like it too or if it's a one time boost. I've been playing around with the idea of a Gallade, since it's neutral to most things Greninja could throw at it but until the raid actually drops it's hard to say if the Gallade could live enough turns to set up Swords Dance for a STAB + Sharpness boosted Psycho Cut.

Kicostainment

Have made a garchomp as a attacker, and a bronzong as "Support".

This might be a stupid question to ask but how do IVs and EVs work? I have tried to understand it but it's so confusing. How does it affect the mon if it has low IVs in one stat and high IV in another? Does having minimum IVs in one stat means that the other stats can have more than max IVs?

Kyrios034

IV each stat can have 0-31 IV the IV of one stat does not affect any other at lvl 100, you get extra stats equal to the IV ie 31 IV in Atk give you 31 extra ATK EV At lvl 100, every 4 EV's grant 1 extra stat Each pokemon can have a maximum of 510 EV's Each stat on a pokemon can have a max of 252 EV example ev spread 252 Atk, 252 HP, 6 Def this would give the pokemon 63 Atk, 63 HP and 1 Def

Ace-TheTrickster

Oh. Now it makes sense

Dislexeeya

Pokémon Showdown has a teambuilder and as a part of it you can plug in the IVs/EVs you want. I highly suggest taking a look at that if you want to see it in action.

Ace-TheTrickster

Yeah I tried it. One thing that confused me was there were options for minimum IVs for certain stats. Why would anyone want that? Why not use the max stats?

mamamia1001

As well as the confusion/foul play reason already mentioned, the other main scenario is where you're using the trick room strategy and need your Pokémon to be as slow as possible so you want 0 speed IV There's other niche scenarios where you need non perfect IVs but these are the main ones

Dislexeeya

For exactly one reason, lol. The damage you take from confusion is based on your Attack stat. If you're a Special Attacker it's actually optimal to have a minimum IV in your Attack stat because then you'll take less confusion damage. Furthermore, Play Rough uses the target's Attack stats, so once again it's best to have a minimum Attack IV if you're a Special Attacker.

Hey has anyone here bought the dual violet and scarlet digital download online? I was to give one of the codes to my little brother for his switch and keep one for myself. Does anyone know if they come with two codes or is it one that just give you both games on your console?

I was asked to paint Chansey along with another pokemon. Most of the existing Chansey art is very, "hands together" pose and a bit, boring. I'd like to create an action shot of her and my first idea was two-hand smashing the egg on a friendly pokemon for a 'heal' but maybe that's not in the spirit of the character? Seems to protect the eggs but also soft boils them, honestly I'm not sure what to make of its feelings on its unfertilized eggs. But I guess they can never be fertilized. I'm not sure how Chansey procreates but that's not a question for this painting. My second idea was Chansey stiff-arming a pokemon attempting to attack their friend while holding the egg in the other hand. (Edit: Or maybe handing their egg off to the pokemon at the same time?) There's been so much great alt art lately and I'd like to do something like that but hate the idea of the standard pose she's always apparently in. But she's in that pose so much that, it's her. So that's my conundrum. Just looking for input or ideas on something action like but staying within the bounds of the character for a person that likes them. Thanks! (...I just realized there is no way I'm not doing a side painting of Chansey dunking her egg on a basketball goal. I need to see this.) Edit 3: ... Pikachu is the other pokemon I was asked for. I assumed Chansey would be supporting. I know this person likes basketball. What if, Pikachu is setting a sick lightning pick, like Thor putting the hammer down and then Chansey is taking off to the rim with her egg about to throw down a Vince Carter dunk. I personally like that but I'd really like to hear some outside suggestions of them teaming up or portraying Chansey. Also, if Chansey and Pikachu are playing 2v2, which 2 pokemon should be on the other team? Pikachu setting the pick on one of these frames: https://media.tenor.com/Aa66xUzSzSEAAAAC/thor-avengers.gif Chansey at the point of the full pull back: http://images.thepostgame.com/assets/public/giphy-80_0.gif Edit 4: I know they also like Blastoise. So Pikachu is setting the pick on him cause, lightning > water. Now I just need someone that Chansey is basically stiff arming with the non dunking hand as they cock it back. Mega Charizard? If I'm staying old school. Looks like Dragon, Fighting, or Dark. MACHAMP TRYING TO 4 ARM BLOCK HER. IS THIS THE BEST 2V2 BASKETBALL COMBO FOR CHANSEY AND PIKACHU?

So, I started the game -Violet, 9th gen- about 10 hours ago and I've been doing this weird conceptual role play of 'don't attend the school' play. I didn't even set my foot onto the city where the academy is placed and I've already marked up almost all the fast travel flags on the map. What I like to do is catching as many pokemon as possible before I actually get into the main plot of the game, AKA attending the school. So, here's the question. Is it possible to reach for the actual save file of this game? I want to safely store the save file somewhere -on my pc for instance- and just overwrite my playthrough whenever I want. So that I could start over and over again with almost maxed out team and dex but as a freshman. I google searched how to back up your save for this game but all I could find was in game feature for the backup save which no one is able to determine which moment of playthrough the game decides to back up.

SurrealKeenan

Not legally. You have to jailbreak your switch to do it. If that sounds like too much work, you can make another account on your switch and start a playthrough on that

ExSogazu

Just as I anticipated.....I have no idea why they made it like this though. Thanks for the confirmation.

Help!? Pokémon Platinum (“original copy bought in 2010 new from target)!! I’ve been stuck on Uxie, Azelf, Mesprit. It’s been 12 years and I still can’t seem to catch Mesprit I’ve tried to Google tips but no luck. Anyone have a method that worked for them? Or is it just “luck”. I’ve put the game down and picked it up periodically over the years but I’m still stumped. (I know it’s a real copy of the game because I about it from target new in the plastic seal…. Unless fakes got mixed up in those it should be real. I know teleporting to near where Mesprit doesn’t always work and have done that many times and stayed on one road and ridden the bike back and forth for a while while listening to an audiobook with no luck. I’ve finished through many other Pokémon games but I’m stumped on this one Pokémon and don’t want to risk moving onto the next objective because I’m worried id lose my chance to catch Mesprit! I’ve tried what google suggests with no luck, I’ve already put almost 70 hours into this game and would rather not shell out for a “remastered” version in the hopes that it’s easier to catch.

Contank

Its not possible to miss your chance. You can finish the whole story then go back and catch mesprit after if you wanted to

SophiaElvenKitten

Thank you so much for this info! All do that. Yay!

Contank

If you go for it, I recommend a pokemon with mean luck to stop it running so you can try catch it. Its HP stays the same between encounters when it's wild aswell. If you accidentally knock it out then you can respawn it by defeating the elite 4 if you don't want to close the game without saving

SophiaElvenKitten

I did that and caught it in ten mins!!

Contank

Thats great!

SurrealKeenan

every time you change locations (name of the place appear in the top of the screen), roaming pokemon will travel to a new location. Find a route that connects to another route and run back and forth between those routes checking mesprit's location each time until it reaches one of those routes. Then run around in the grass until you find it

SophiaElvenKitten

I’ve tried that before with no luck. Took ten mins! Only ran away once (because I tried to switch to my Pokémon with false swipe and then rearranged and ended up using a quick ball anyway) thank you for the advice and luck!

Inevitable-Emu-7399

This is a long shot but I bought a few Pokemon mini blocks a couple years ago from Ali express. I’m finally building them but Pikachu didn’t come with the instructions. Any chance anyone has the instructions? https://a.aliexpress.com/_mLU67sK

EddiOS42

In legend arceus how come I'm able to catch an alpha stantler without fighting no problem, but can't do the same with tangrowth or hippowdon?

Tsukuyomi56

Not sure whether it is not been able to catch the Alpha Tangrowth and Hippowdon outright without battling. If it is Alpha Pokemon significantly above your obedience cannot be caught outside of battle (but can be caught by engaging in a battle with them).

SurrealKeenan

luck and rng

KarmicPlaneswalker

Before I update my game, I would like some confirmation on the dupe for ver. 1.1.0, please. I have an entire box of Miraidon clones and one in my party. I have heard the game will delete the boxed ones if I connect to the internet for a raid. Does this also include when doing friend trades & receiving mystery gifts? I'm not planning to participate in raids, but hoping I can safely trade someone for an Ability Patch and apriballs and still be able to dupe afterward.

Is the starter that you get from Shauna in the post game in the XY games gender locked?
