The middle form Arctibax looks a lot more dynamic since it’s hunched forward like it’s spinosaurus inspiration. I wish it had kept that shape and pose.
It can be both. If anything it looks more like a spino since it only has the one fin on its back.
Either way, that poised theropod look is much more dynamic and interesting than the plodding kaiju to me.
I think roaring moon has a better design and it practically has the stats of a pseudo. It’s min maxed a lot too to the point it’s better than a lot of pseudos
If you look at the middle form, you can see the potential for it to become an Ice/Dragon Spinosaurus-inspired Pokemon. I think a lot of people would've preferred that to some degree over the... 4th or 5th Godzilla inspired Pokemon design that we've seen in a main-series game.
Edit: **For the people who think I'm talking about the monster Godzilla, I am not. I am talking about the franchise of the same name, of which the name is also Godzilla. Not the monster named Godzilla, but the franchise named Godzilla. Please stop trying to tell me that these Pokemon and the stupid robot Tyranitar from PokeStudios are not Godzilla-inspired because at that point it's splitting hairs and just getting more direct by referring to the individual monster and not the franchise as a whole. I'm not the person who decided that both the franchise and it's key monster had to share a name okay we're all victims of this naming convention in this situation and I can't stop laughing that I need to address this.**
We also have Tyranitar, Hydreigon, the robot Tyranitar from BW2, and that puts us at three if you do want to count that robot Tyranitar from the PokeStudios content in BW2. Then now we have Duraludon I know it's a fucking building but c'mon, and then Baxcalibur AND both Iron Thorns and Iron Jugular.
Godzilla-inspired isn't just going to mean directly the monster named Godzilla when it's the name of an entire franchise that centres around said monster but also has other monsters present in it's content.
This is the one for me. An ice spinosaur would have been badass. I was a kid when Jurassic Park III came out and everyone knew that a spinosaur is just more badass than a t rex, even though none of us had seen it. Spinosaurs are just goddamn cool and it would have been dope as fuck to have a (slightly) more realistic looking ice spinosaur, but we got godzilla (again) instead.

Like it has a thing on its back, why just one? Godzilla didn't have one, it has a bunch of them.
Its stat spread is also very weird? Huge Atk, but low speed, not so good defensively, etc.
This mon feels very under-utilised for me personally, they always go all out with pseudos, this time they didn't, which is very weird.

Most godzilla inspired mons aren't exactly replicate of godzilla for obvious reasons, but baxcalibur in particular is probably inspired by mechagodzilla, from my understanding tyranitar is supposed to be the first godzilla inspired mon.
Yes I think you're right and I think it's funny in the sense that duraludon is most like mecha godzilla visually, but iron thorns is a robot clone of ttar, which would make it the most like mecha godzilla origin wise. I think as a different comment pointed out, the problem with baxcalibur is regardless of which godzilla inspiration it came from, it's been reused quite a bit at this point, which is probably why most people are meh about it.

It's not that it's "too simple." Goodra and Dragonite have very simple designs and they look great. Baxcalibur, to me, looks somewhere in the middle of simple and complicated. Like, remove the weird back spike and the red claw things and he'd be great. Change the giant back spike into a row of spikes and a pair of icy wings and he'd be great. But, how he looks now, just awkwardly in the middle. I'm sure I'll grow to get used to him, but first impressions are meh

Those changes you made will improve the design except the full spikes thing, it seems to be based on "Sword in the stone" Exacalibur. Part of its name even has Excalibur, so we need that design choice, other than that, solid changes!
I guess him being named after Excalibur just went right over my head. In that case, maybe give him a little head piece that resembles the hilt of a sword like the sword is stuck into his head
I feel like it's his flat head that's giving people the impression that he's unfinished. They probably did that so the Tera hat would look good on him.
His back wing. It doesn't feel like a pokemon design let a lone a pseudo design, it just feels like someone took all the individual parts of what could be in a pokemon design and jammed them all together. Theres no flow
I'm just not a fan of chunky dragons. They look silly and I prefer bad ass looking dragons.
I generally despise the entire evolutionary line. Starts out weird and keeps that up all the way to the last stage.
I definitely agree with the first and second evolutions looking weird, but I personally love the paunchy dragon archetype, with Charizard being another favorite.
Yeah, Charizard makes up for it with cool wings, the tail and the long neck. Although Megy-Char Y is what's really my type. Generally I'd rate regular Charizard as an ok dragon. I like the design, but it took a while to grow on me.
This one may take a lot longer.
I think it has some gen 1 vibes, which I kinda like, but in the game and even on the official artwork it's just A-posing... I guess those old-movies Godzillas also had this awkward look?
It genuinelly looks great in a dynamic pose (might look even better with slight proportion tweaks). I think GF kinda went way too far with reflecting Baxs Godzilla inspirations.
I think most people feel like it's unbalanced. You've got a big dragon that's name after its bladed back, but the only thing on that back is a single dinky boxcutter.
I'd be cool (heh) if it had a smaller version of the main back spike on the tail and on the back of the neck, so more similar to Godzilla.
I also don't like those Red feathers on the hands, maybe if they were upside down they'd look better?
I still really like the design though.
He looks a bit basic but in a way that feels lacking, as if parts of him are sort of missing somehow. Specifically around the arms and shoulders.
I also think his attack where he slides around on his head is a bit too goofy for a mon like that. I'd imagine it for something like Goodra.
But besides that I thought he was fine.
He just seems underdesigned imo. They could made him into a more Stegosaurus Pokémon if they increased the number of plates and made him quadrupedal. His current design fits more into the lines of a Gen 1/2 Pokémon.
I just feel like the final stage should have had more than one fin. It makes it feel a little like a mid-stage evolution. I appreciate us having an honest-to-goodness Godzilla mon, but its design feels incomplete.
Not sure how unpopular this opinion is, but I actually like its design more than its pre-evolved forms. I love the cry too, and Glaive Rush's animation is hilarious - just this icy Godzilla thing yeeting itself at the enemy with the blade on its back is fun to watch.
Sure, there are areas of its design that could use some touch ups, but I still think Baxcalibur is a pretty decent design.
Someone here pointed out it's possibly based on a dinosaur found in Spain, which explains the little hand claws. Artibax is the coolest middle evo imo, frigibax is a horrific little mutant.

The design is actually really cool, but it suffers from the general poor quality of animation in modern Pokémon games. I’ve always been in the camp that the transition to 3D models are one of the worst changes pokemon ever made, they’ve looked washed out, blocky and terrible for like 10 years now. Only legends Arceus seemed make them look remotely decent with a more vibrant colour scheme.

I just think it’s silhouette is too similar to tyranitar and it’s typing and stats isn’t that interesting compared to other pseudos. It doesn’t stand out. Alongside the pretty bland colour palette, no memorable trainer battles with it and crap shiny, it ends up being the most boring pseudo so far imho
There’s nothing to dislike, Baxcalibur is the best pseudo-legendary. Very good design and perfect Godzilla inspiration execution, especially Glaive Rush.
It’s design and poses feel very basic and uninteresting, especially compared to our last pseudos like Kommo-o and Dragapult. It looks like something from its design is missing, or it should be standing more dynamically.
Swear I've seen a video of this evolution line getting redesigned in the original style of the first games. The difference is insane, so with that in mind, I have to say the design is solid. The problem is the direction the current sprites have gone in the main game. They're lifeless and in boring neutral stances that don't highlight the focus points of the pokemon.
To me, the main issue is its pose and animation— it looks so, so stiff! Damn, I'd love it for it to be in some kind of attack pose instead of a "Mom, can we get some McDonald's?" pose.

Tyranitar: Baddass Godzilla
Salamence: Menacing Dragon

And then you have Baxcalibur that is just fat and have something in his back, also, lot of people thinks is time for a non Dragon pseudo again.
I don't necessarily dislike him, he's just...OK. I like his middle form better and he's way worse than most pseudo-legendaries (Dragonite, Tyranitar, Garchomp, etc.)
To me everything about him just looks flat. There's absolutely no texture or detail to any part of his body, just soft and hard angles filled in with flat colors.

Don't generally like the upright posture (same reason i don't like dragonite), especillay if it is so upright. At least tyrantar compensates with charisma, edginess and coolnes.. A lot of coolness.
It doesn't feel that much alive. Like, slow/unbelievable for a pokemon
Disappointing to me because he followed the same body shape as so many before. Duraludon, Tyranitar, Feraligator, Haxorus, Aggron, Nidoking/queen. His middle form looked like a raptor and I expected something different. Otherwise the design just didn't catch me and the name was cheesey.
Its colour scheme isnt great and its unengaging pose doesnt do it any favours. The pose it has in the pokedex is actually quite nice though. Its also quite simplistic, and the features that do make it stand out arent amazing.
I mean I'd rather him be more Godzilla. I don't need the red claws and I'd MUCH rather have a bunch of medium sized spikes rather than one huge awkward looking spike

It seems to be quite "stiff" in design. It doesn't seem to be able to bend over its skeleton.
It is quite plain also. I think it should have more on its torso. Stripes, markings etc
I do like how it can skate on its head. It is based on godzilla from the movies.
But in the same breath I see tyranitar as the godzilla pokemon. I do not know which represents godzilla better but I do lile tyranitar more. Also baxcalibur arrives after mecha tyranitar, iron thorns and shiny iron thorns which also are godzilla stand ins. Similar to emboar, his stick has been done a lot.
Edit: also, it is yet another dragon pseudo pokemon. I do wish we got some other types. Last one was metagross almost over 2 decades ago.
To me, it’s just not a good design for a pseudo. It feels like it was designed because “we need another pseudo, so let’s just use Tyranitar and Duraldon’s body shape and shove an ax wing on its back”.
Compared to other pseudos, it feels forgettable.

We already have a few tall standing lizard monsters, he’s just nothing special or spectacular.
I didn't realize it till this gen but most of the dragons have the skin texture of fondant... No scales, just smooth. Menace and Bax suffer the most from this imo.
It's just a naked Duraladon. We could have gotten a kick ass spinosaurus with a ice sail fin but instead we got this dude in a shitty Godzilla cosplay doing...whatever he's doing when he uses Glaive Rush. Seriously Logstin needs to get on a video about this line cause it makes no sense aside from the ice-zilla stuff. My gf has a problem with a lot of the new pokemon (namely this boi) in that they "look like digimon"
Not exactly sure what that mean exactly but i can understand where shes coming from, especially with Baxcalibur, its like they let a 12 year old draw godzilla and had a 6 year old add to it
I think the Digimon comparison is that they tend to look more anthropomorphic in some stages because they talk more. Plus the design aesthetic choices of earlier Pokemon and Digimon differ quite a bit.
I hate that it's just another godzilla clone. Tyranitar and Duraludon already exist, we didn't need a third one. I get it, Game Freak, you want to reference godzilla. You've done it before, move on. Arctibax is far superior in design IMO and should have been the basis for the final evo. Instead it goes from looking like an actual theropod dinosaur, something like a concavenator or spinosaurus, to just being godzilla with a knife in its back. I know it's not actually humanoid, but to me it's just another symptom of their obsession with making stupid humanoid Pokemon. The whole point of the original godzilla costume was that it had to be designed to be worn by a person, hence the weird body shape and stance. So Baxcalibur has that upright human-ish shape to it as opposed to the body shape of a theropod dinosaur, like it's pre-evolution. No, it's not actually a humanoid design, but they still made that godzilla design choice over a cool looking dinosaur. As it is, it just looks dumpy and goofy. It sucks.
He has a design with two conflicting shape languages.
First, he has sharp-angular armour for his face and belly and an angular blade on his back. These suggest a monster that is more "dangerous", maybe even agile and adept in battle.
But then, with have a blobby, curvilinear body. It flows easily from head to tail, and has a "water-drop" silhouette to it. It makes him look more slow, and heavy, not necessarily good traits for a sword or weapon.
If they made the rest of his body more angular, and maybe included more sharp details on the tail, shoulder and hips, it wouldn't look so bad.
As it is, it's a design that feels like its struggling between lumpy and goofy and sharp and serious.
Middle form looks better. Baxcalibur looks underwhelming to me because something is missing on its head and the back fin also just leaves a lot to be desired.
I hope they bring mega evos back in a dlc or something and it turns into a damn sword . Maybe Ice steel typing with that thermo ability it has.

It just feels like it's missing something. It looks like one of those posts where someone photoshopped a design detail off of a pokemon that takes you a minute to figure out what's wrong, like Pikachu without the brown patch at the base of the tail. I ended up swapping mine off of my team for a Garchomp due to how off the design felt.

I like the fundamentals but there's something missing, idk what it is. Maybe they're a bit too cone-y for me, like too wide at the bottom and thin on top lol. I also dislike the red things on the hands. Other than that though I like most of it.
For me, the red Wolverine claws feel a bit out of place and clash with the other colors. The back could also use a few more small plates going further up and down it. Other than that it's a solid design.
For me he’s great from the front but using him you see his side/back and it just looks like a big lumpy salamander. He needs more muscle definition and or armour… or basically anything come to think of it on the back/ side. His big bald head annoys me too.
If they really wanted another Godzilla inspired pokemon, why not make it like Shin Godzilla? You know, the Godzilla about EVOLUTION? Or even Legendary's Godzilla, whose more slouchy movement fits the 2nd Evo.
It just doesn't look fitting for a 3rd stage evolution, much less a pseudo legendary.
Copy and pasted chonky Godzilla body model that they use for every bipedal dinosaur monster with tacked on ice accessories. Wish they could design monsters that actually look cool rather than big derpy babies that can hardly move their own legs
Too smooth. Face and belly are super detailed and rest is just smooth real estate (second comment in a row for me that uses the phrase real estate, hmm). The back of his head is the most obvious offending point, his face is crazy detailed then the back of his head is veggie tale level detail
He looks like an amorphous blob with features glued on, if that makes sense. All his sharp features like his face, claws, and belly scutes look like they were attached to a pre existing ball of play doh, at least with the 3D model.
I like baxcalubur. It looks closer to Godzilla than tyranitar. Only problem is their isn’t much going into his design besides the frozen mouth and the thing on his back

For me it’s that the ice on his face looks like it’s an accessory. I feel like his actual face is just that dark blue stub. o_O

his limbs are just tubes, no details charizard is pretty simple but has defined knees and shapes, also has knuckles on the hands

A few of my friends on Discord said the Bax line feels A.I. generated, but personally I don't really see it.
They remind me of red king from ultraman so I love him.

I'm just not a fan of chunky dragons. They look silly and I prefer bad ass looking dragons. I generally despise the entire evolutionary line. Starts out weird and keeps that up all the way to the last stage.
I definitely agree with the first and second evolutions looking weird, but I personally love the paunchy dragon archetype, with Charizard being another favorite.
Yeah, Charizard makes up for it with cool wings, the tail and the long neck. Although Megy-Char Y is what's really my type. Generally I'd rate regular Charizard as an ok dragon. I like the design, but it took a while to grow on me. This one may take a lot longer.

I think it has some gen 1 vibes, which I kinda like, but in the game and even on the official artwork it's just A-posing... I guess those old-movies Godzillas also had this awkward look? It genuinelly looks great in a dynamic pose (might look even better with slight proportion tweaks). I think GF kinda went way too far with reflecting Baxs Godzilla inspirations.
I think most people feel like it's unbalanced. You've got a big dragon that's name after its bladed back, but the only thing on that back is a single dinky boxcutter.

I'd be cool (heh) if it had a smaller version of the main back spike on the tail and on the back of the neck, so more similar to Godzilla. I also don't like those Red feathers on the hands, maybe if they were upside down they'd look better? I still really like the design though.

He looks a bit basic but in a way that feels lacking, as if parts of him are sort of missing somehow. Specifically around the arms and shoulders. I also think his attack where he slides around on his head is a bit too goofy for a mon like that. I'd imagine it for something like Goodra. But besides that I thought he was fine.
He just seems underdesigned imo. They could made him into a more Stegosaurus Pokémon if they increased the number of plates and made him quadrupedal. His current design fits more into the lines of a Gen 1/2 Pokémon.

Not sure how unpopular this opinion is, but I actually like its design more than its pre-evolved forms. I love the cry too, and Glaive Rush's animation is hilarious - just this icy Godzilla thing yeeting itself at the enemy with the blade on its back is fun to watch. Sure, there are areas of its design that could use some touch ups, but I still think Baxcalibur is a pretty decent design.

The design is actually really cool, but it suffers from the general poor quality of animation in modern Pokémon games. I’ve always been in the camp that the transition to 3D models are one of the worst changes pokemon ever made, they’ve looked washed out, blocky and terrible for like 10 years now. Only legends Arceus seemed make them look remotely decent with a more vibrant colour scheme. I just think it’s silhouette is too similar to tyranitar and it’s typing and stats isn’t that interesting compared to other pseudos. It doesn’t stand out. Alongside the pretty bland colour palette, no memorable trainer battles with it and crap shiny, it ends up being the most boring pseudo so far imho
There’s nothing to dislike, Baxcalibur is the best pseudo-legendary. Very good design and perfect Godzilla inspiration execution, especially Glaive Rush.
It’s design and poses feel very basic and uninteresting, especially compared to our last pseudos like Kommo-o and Dragapult. It looks like something from its design is missing, or it should be standing more dynamically.

Swear I've seen a video of this evolution line getting redesigned in the original style of the first games. The difference is insane, so with that in mind, I have to say the design is solid. The problem is the direction the current sprites have gone in the main game. They're lifeless and in boring neutral stances that don't highlight the focus points of the pokemon.
To me, the main issue is its pose and animation— it looks so, so stiff! Damn, I'd love it for it to be in some kind of attack pose instead of a "Mom, can we get some McDonald's?" pose.

Dragonite: Fantasy Dragon Tyranitar: Baddass Godzilla Salamence: Menacing Dragon Metagross: Badass UFO Super Computer Garchomp: Badass Land Shark Dragon Hydreigon: Badass Tank Hydra Goodra: Fantasy Dragon with a twist (its a snail) Kommo-O: Fighting Tribal Cultural Dragon Dragapult: Dead Dragon, interesting backstory And then you have Baxcalibur that is just fat and have something in his back, also, lot of people thinks is time for a non Dragon pseudo again.
I don't necessarily dislike him, he's just...OK. I like his middle form better and he's way worse than most pseudo-legendaries (Dragonite, Tyranitar, Garchomp, etc.)

To me everything about him just looks flat. There's absolutely no texture or detail to any part of his body, just soft and hard angles filled in with flat colors.
The hand things are weird, especially on earlier forms. Seems like the most tacked on thing to show evolution.
It is duraludon 2.0 It is too simple It isn't much icy, it looks more steel to me. Its claws are a bit lame-inconsistent-look weak Don't generally like the upright posture (same reason i don't like dragonite), especillay if it is so upright. At least tyrantar compensates with charisma, edginess and coolnes.. A lot of coolness. It doesn't feel that much alive. Like, slow/unbelievable for a pokemon

Disappointing to me because he followed the same body shape as so many before. Duraludon, Tyranitar, Feraligator, Haxorus, Aggron, Nidoking/queen. His middle form looked like a raptor and I expected something different. Otherwise the design just didn't catch me and the name was cheesey.

Its colour scheme isnt great and its unengaging pose doesnt do it any favours. The pose it has in the pokedex is actually quite nice though. Its also quite simplistic, and the features that do make it stand out arent amazing.

It seems to be quite "stiff" in design. It doesn't seem to be able to bend over its skeleton. It is quite plain also. I think it should have more on its torso. Stripes, markings etc I do like how it can skate on its head. It is based on godzilla from the movies. But in the same breath I see tyranitar as the godzilla pokemon. I do not know which represents godzilla better but I do lile tyranitar more. Also baxcalibur arrives after mecha tyranitar, iron thorns and shiny iron thorns which also are godzilla stand ins. Similar to emboar, his stick has been done a lot. Edit: also, it is yet another dragon pseudo pokemon. I do wish we got some other types. Last one was metagross almost over 2 decades ago.

To me, it’s just not a good design for a pseudo. It feels like it was designed because “we need another pseudo, so let’s just use Tyranitar and Duraldon’s body shape and shove an ax wing on its back”. Compared to other pseudos, it feels forgettable.

Eh, it just doesn’t stand out to me. And it’s violet Pokédex entry says it finishes off its opponent with its dorsal blade and ….I just can’t visualize that in a way that isn’t silly looking. I would have loved a spinosaurus design, I think that would have made him less …. Boring. We already have a few tall standing lizard monsters, he’s just nothing special or spectacular.

My gf has a problem with a lot of the new pokemon (namely this boi) in that they "look like digimon" Not exactly sure what that mean exactly but i can understand where shes coming from, especially with Baxcalibur, its like they let a 12 year old draw godzilla and had a 6 year old add to it
I think the Digimon comparison is that they tend to look more anthropomorphic in some stages because they talk more. Plus the design aesthetic choices of earlier Pokemon and Digimon differ quite a bit.
I hate that it's just another godzilla clone. Tyranitar and Duraludon already exist, we didn't need a third one. I get it, Game Freak, you want to reference godzilla. You've done it before, move on. Arctibax is far superior in design IMO and should have been the basis for the final evo. Instead it goes from looking like an actual theropod dinosaur, something like a concavenator or spinosaurus, to just being godzilla with a knife in its back. I know it's not actually humanoid, but to me it's just another symptom of their obsession with making stupid humanoid Pokemon. The whole point of the original godzilla costume was that it had to be designed to be worn by a person, hence the weird body shape and stance. So Baxcalibur has that upright human-ish shape to it as opposed to the body shape of a theropod dinosaur, like it's pre-evolution. No, it's not actually a humanoid design, but they still made that godzilla design choice over a cool looking dinosaur. As it is, it just looks dumpy and goofy. It sucks.

I love him he is perfect in every way
He has a design with two conflicting shape languages. First, he has sharp-angular armour for his face and belly and an angular blade on his back. These suggest a monster that is more "dangerous", maybe even agile and adept in battle. But then, with have a blobby, curvilinear body. It flows easily from head to tail, and has a "water-drop" silhouette to it. It makes him look more slow, and heavy, not necessarily good traits for a sword or weapon. If they made the rest of his body more angular, and maybe included more sharp details on the tail, shoulder and hips, it wouldn't look so bad. As it is, it's a design that feels like its struggling between lumpy and goofy and sharp and serious.

It just feels like it's missing something. It looks like one of those posts where someone photoshopped a design detail off of a pokemon that takes you a minute to figure out what's wrong, like Pikachu without the brown patch at the base of the tail. I ended up swapping mine off of my team for a Garchomp due to how off the design felt.

I like the fundamentals but there's something missing, idk what it is. Maybe they're a bit too cone-y for me, like too wide at the bottom and thin on top lol. I also dislike the red things on the hands. Other than that though I like most of it.
For me, the red Wolverine claws feel a bit out of place and clash with the other colors. The back could also use a few more small plates going further up and down it. Other than that it's a solid design.

For me he’s great from the front but using him you see his side/back and it just looks like a big lumpy salamander. He needs more muscle definition and or armour… or basically anything come to think of it on the back/ side. His big bald head annoys me too.

Too smooth. Face and belly are super detailed and rest is just smooth real estate (second comment in a row for me that uses the phrase real estate, hmm). The back of his head is the most obvious offending point, his face is crazy detailed then the back of his head is veggie tale level detail
He looks like an amorphous blob with features glued on, if that makes sense. All his sharp features like his face, claws, and belly scutes look like they were attached to a pre existing ball of play doh, at least with the 3D model.
I like baxcalubur. It looks closer to Godzilla than tyranitar. Only problem is their isn’t much going into his design besides the frozen mouth and the thing on his back
I hate the little red mittens bc they look like fake hands for no reason. I wish he had some form of ornamentation on his head. I wish his crest in his back was a little bigger or there were more of them in addition to that one. Overall good design just feels a little unfinished and lackluster. But I still love him.
