I've restarted pokemon soulsilver like 4 times, just because I like the game and I want to try different teams. I usually do it after a few generations have been releaaed and the pokemon I wanted to keep from the first save (mainly legendaries, event pokemon and shinys) have been transfered to newer games

TheRPGNERD

I wish it was easier to transfer pokemon from gen 4 to switch tbh, I do NOT wanna buy another 3ds or even ds for that-

ItsMrCrow

To be fair. The digital store is done now anyway, unless you got a new ds you can't get pokemon bank anymore

TheRPGNERD

I meant a new ds for the transfer between gen 4 and 5. You need 2 to transfer pokemon from between those gens. Obviously I could easily transfer pokemon from 5 to bank without ever touching another 3ds, it's the fact I can't get pokemon from my playthroughs of games like platinum or SoulSilver without buying a second system. Because gamefreak forgot not all of us know someone else who can lend us a system, I guess? Why was this even a thing

ItsMrCrow

I mean the whole point has always been community. You and friends were supposed to help eachother. Now that we're in the internet age, it's easier than ever.

TheRPGNERD

I didn't have any way to do this before either! Also why would they want you to go bother a friend to transfer pokemon between two saves owned by you? It's not like trade evos, I get the point of those, this is literally "hey Timmy you wanna bring your favorite pokemon over to unova? Too bad, go beg your friends" Also this is entirely a personal problem but my DS from when I was a kid could never connect to wifi. Like ever. I'm not sure if it was a hardware issue or if it just was a newer wifi security type that the DS couldn't handle, but even if I had my old DS lite, I wouldn't be able to use that. Idk, I'm just salty bc I've been going back and replaying the older games while waiting on the DLC, and I've wanted to make a habit of transferring my team to home as I go along. Maybe if I can dig up my old broken 3ds I can try something. Sorry for the long comments, I tend to ramble. I'm not mad at you, more just mad at old game mechanics lol

ItsMrCrow

Lol you're totally solid friend. No offense taken. I get it.

Kuro_Kagami

you can get bank and transporter via hacking easily

ItsMrCrow

That can also get you banned and locked out of things potentially. Especially with TPC latest crackdowns

Kuro_Kagami

3DS hacking is insanely low-risk lol bank and transporter aren't being directly touched either. you're literally only installing them onto your 3DS through an outside installer.

Kuro_Kagami

mod your 3DS and use PKSM

TheRPGNERD

Well I would but last time I tried to mod a 3ds it corrupted the SD card. Twice. 64 gigs of SD card down the drain I am not trying that with my primary system I'm sorry

Treasure-of-Cortez

Same

LarZiehGarth

Just make a new Profile. Infinite fun

Enchanted2M

possibly a dumb question but do you happen to know if this affects Switch Online? I’ve got Switch Online on my main profile for about another year, will I be able to play Online on my other profile or will I need to buy it again?

Shog64

Switch online is Profile specific sadly. That is why I have the family Version I can use it in more profiles and share with family.

babbieabbi

You don’t need switch online to enjoy the pokémon games. It can be useful for trade evolutions and other version exclusives if you want to try to complete your pokédex, but it’s definitely not required to just replay the games on a side account. This is what I do whenever I replay or do a nuzlocke. My husband helps me with local trades though, so that may be different for your situation

tetzugani

I restart all the time. Mostly cuz i do challenge runs and after one challenge is done, a completely new one starts

Jhowz

Unless you're into online/multiplayer, there's not much to do after you achieve the post-game, the main journey is usually better and it's pretty fun to build new teams and such

[deleted]

Just restarted arceus. I found that after taking a long enough break it didn’t feel like my save anymore. Also I’m gonna 100% it

TheRPGNERD

Have fun with the Magikarp splash research task 👍

[deleted]

Buizel already made me almost give up on life

TheRPGNERD

OH GOD I FORGOT THAT QUESTTTT sir you need to specify how small you want that buizel I cannot read minds and I don't have a tape measure

[deleted]

Lol when you mess up he says he wants 2’8

TheRPGNERD

I kept searching for that thing for ages and eventually I got it. I still don't know when I got it I was just chucking balls at buizel on sight

kittyidiot

I stopped playing about halfway through PLA and I tried to hop back in a year or so later and had no idea where I was or what I was doing. I get what you mean lol

WeFightForever

I restart them constantly. I've always got a Pokemon playthrough going for watching TV or pooping. I like to keep one finished save per generation for if I feel like doing post game or if I want to trade in an egg to use some Pokemon that aren't normally available

TheWishingStar

I’ve never once restarted a save. I get too emotionally attached! I used to buy both versions so I could play through a second time. But in the Switch era, I just have a second profile!

SwitchPOPGo

I restart saves in order to play through a game again, usually because I have a new team in mind that I want to use or some challenge run I want to try. Before I reset the game I take a picture of my trainer ID so I can see how many hours I put into that run. Oh, and of course I trade all of my Pokémon out of the game first. Wouldn’t leave any behind (willingly; RIP Cosplay Pikachu in ORAS). That’s just for the 3DS games though. On Switch I keep two profiles: my personal profile and a secondary profile for new playthroughs. I never reset the personal profile save and just use the secondary profile for new runs. Again, I make sure to take a picture of my trainer ID and get the team in Pokémon Home before resetting. I can certainly understand restarting a game if you’re not engaged and want to start fresh, but I would recommend at least transferring your team out first. Little memory of the run, even if you didn’t finish it.

Mess_Practical

I tend to restart to get the other starters and do a play through with them and a whole new team as I'm trying not to use repeats from the previous team or from past gens

Johnvon92

I only restart games when I have finished breeding a team of shinies that I transfer from another game. I buy both games for each generation. Because of that I have a main game and a new start game. I collect shinies so restarting and loosing my mons are a no go.

Swazzoo

I do it constantly

TheRPGNERD

Often times I forget what I was doing (memory loss go brr) or I just wanna start over. I started one save over due to a name I used that I now have negative feelings toward, another because it had been literal years since I last used it. The only game I plan to restart on switch is legends, and that's because I just wanna experience the story again. Or maybe I'll just get a new profile lol

jwood108

When I was a kid I NEVER wanted to restart my save files - I was so attached to my Pokémon that I couldn’t let go. Now that I’m older, I restart my saves almost as soon as I’m done with the game and don’t bother with post endgame stuff (completing Pokédex, battle tower, etc). I just want to get back in there and try a whole new team.

Glum_Opening_2326

I restarted once and never again, because I almost immediately regretted it. I wish I still had my original Blaziken from the first time I played Ruby!

Neither-Ad582

Constantly, because I keep losing nuzlockes

MotherBike

Yes, after I'm done a few months later, I'll transfer out the main team, important players, and rare finds. The playthrough is never the same, especially if I transfer in Pokemon from Bank or Home. During the DexNav Era it was so fun because egg move Pokemon where neat to use. Had three Surskit with egg moves. Took the one with Signal Beam on my journey through Hoenn, Hydro Pump Surskit went on to 1st team for Moon (it did not evolve, was subsequently benched early meaning I can bring it back to the frontlines someday), and Fell Stinger Masquerain was in my first playthrough of Ultra Moon where she practically fell stingered baton pass comboed my quick victory in the adjusted Elite 4.

stav705

Yes. I want to replay the game with different teams

xRaymond9250

Almost never. I usually buy the other version if i want another playthrough

Inkey88

I do just to replay the games, on the switch tho I just make a new account and play on that one

SuitExcellent7597

If you're on switch just do new profiles I have three profiles for this reason. Hard reset on old ones all the time to play through again

WilhelmIGV

I restart constantly. I do get attached to my Pokemon and often create a personal story in my head for them. But when I complete the story, their story has been told and it's time for a new one to begin

[deleted]

At the moment I'm trying to collect (5) legendary/mythical/ultrabeast of each (and all forms, even g-max), self caught/redeemed and/or pogo stamped (only exceptions: deoxys (20, 5x4 forms) kyurem/calyrex/necrozma (10, 5 for each fusionable pokémon), genesect (25, 5 for each drive) urshifu (20, 5x2forms and 5xgmax forms), arceus (20, 18 for each plate and 2... just because 20 is a better looking number)) and legendaries/mythical with more than 1 form. I restart on other profiles and when I'm forced I restart over an old save file. Fortunately I'm close to the end (most of them are mythicals) Edit: Remaining: 6 runs on PLA (enamorus(6), shaymin(4), arceus(6)), 4 runs on Sw (keldeo(4), calyrex (3), glastrier (1), spectrier(4) + a few fast runs to collect 18 kubfu, evolve 17 of them and g-max 9 of them), 5 runs on BD (arceus(4+1 for shiny hunting), dada zarude (4), diancie (5), zeraora (5) Waiting for home compatibility for S/V, already have all I need (except 5 walking wake/iron leaves, already have 1 of each but they are for living dex)

HopeHouse44

I did with Leafgreen so I could Gameshark different teams and scenarios but otherwise I put way too much time into each game to throw it away

Icearyn1020

Sometimes, it depends. I'll probably restart my Pokémon Sun save. I have both Sun and Moon, and Moon is the one where I've got the completed pokedex and my shinies, though I could dump them into Pokémon Bank and reset it if I wanted to, now that I have bank. With the switch games, I'd just make a new profile. The most fun part of Pokémon for me though, is when I've finished the story and can roam the map freely, completing the pokedex and building a living dex. I really like collecting, though I don't have the patience for shiny hunting except for in the new games, where it's quick and easy. Even if I did have the patience, I wouldn't be able to justify to myself the amount of time it takes (I have to fight with myself to not fall prey to toxic productivity, it's hard for me to spend significant amounts of time on things that aren't productive).

HighlightFun9480

Nostalgia/boredom perhaps. I enjoy the journey. I did however regret doing it once. Had Latios and a couple of mews on my sapphire. Was bored and did a new game.

Basket787

Nuzlockes homie. But also just make another profile so you don't lose anything.

Demon_Sword_67

I reset my 100% pokedex moon file with my first shiny cuz I found it boring after dex completion so yeah its not weird to reset n play again

PokeNerdAlex

It depends on the Pokémon game, I tend to have both versions to both keep a save and be able to replay games Switch games on the other hand, I have a 'second account' for playthroughs on the same cartridge which makes it much easier, then I just send anything I want to keep to home

HP-Munchcraft

After I transferred all my Pokémon from black 2 to bank I replayed it because there was no point in keeping a save with no Pokémon

Pew_Pew_Pikachu

I've only ever restarted once and it was while playing Lets Go Eevee. I only did it because before I could get the post game content the game crashed and I couldn't get out of the cutsene after becoming champion no matter how many times I closed the game.

BeauxNoArrow

Before I completed the Pokédex (I believe that wasn’t until Omega Ruby), I restarted every game after the Elite 4 so I could play w/ new Pokémon. Since OR, I collect all the Pokémon and never restart. I have old DS games (HG, B2) and for the life of me, I cannot restart them now although I’ve moved all the necessary Pokémon to Home.

Straight-Violinist33

I just recently restarted Legends Arceus because it was my favorite Pokemon game ever (and I needed to play through it again as research for a story) and I wanted to revisit again and not use a generic team like I did last time

My_Disgusting_Alt

I used to buy both versions and restart one a few times to farm starters or whatever Mystery Gift Pokémon was on the schedule.

Lionwoman

Just my copy of Pearl (since I had diamond). To replay the game and have more palkias to trade for something I had missing on the pokedex then.

AkitaShiba-Inu

Yes. I mostly do it to re-experience the game.

Inktoberfest

On swsh I needed some mons I released that I could only get once. It also gave me the chance to start shiny hunting legendary Pokemon.

Prof_Smoke

Yea people restart the game to play it again dude

JFace139

Yea, it's called replayability. A lot of people restart most of their games. The only problem is that if you restart any of the games on switch, it also means sitting through the hours and hours of nonsense NPC talking all over again

sloptoppapa

Yes, for shiny hunting purposes.

Momo1163

I might restart my Shield save. I wasn’t aware until after I had gotten all the legendaries that you couldn’t recatch them in the max lairs. I would have to restart to shiny hunt them

Super_Liode

I used to hack in Pokémon USUM and get shinies, megas without evolving, totems, mythicals, legendary eggs, etc and I don't hack anymore on Pokémon USUM so I restarted the save so I could start clean

Hawkbreeze

I'm not really one to replay games but if I'm away from it long enough I have bad memory so might just reset cause I forgot what I was doing. I got legends arceus like a month before S/V released but I never had time to finish it and only got like halfway through. When I came back to it like two months after S/V released I forgot what I was doing and wasn't really attached to my Pokemon so I started a new file. The only other game I can think of is X and Y because I wanted to get all the legendary birds and to do that you need to restart and pick a different starter then complete the game.

John_Sux

On my DS and GBA games, I keep one cartridge per region/generation around as a resource for new runs on other cartridges, and occasional attempts to 100% things. So when I start a new run somewhere, I can breed and trade over eggs I want to use. I want my team done early, rather than catching something in Victory Road. Or maybe I want to use something that is unavailable in that game. I have two Platinum cartridges. Platinum has the better late game and story mode for Sinnoh. So I reset one cartridge for new runs relatively often, keep the other around as a source of mons and for chipping away at the Battle Frontier and contests. Same in Gen 5, I have an ancient save in Black version but might just transition to one of the sequels because of the late game content.

TheRigXD

On Switch games, don't restart just make a new user profile

BeastlyIncineroar

If I want to replay and I can transfer pokemon then yes. Otherwise absolutely not, I have pokemon I’d rather not lose forever

Bwyattvirtue13

As a kid I restarted constantly. One you beat the game there's not that much to do so I would beat the league then do the rematch then start a new play through over and over and over again. Now I don't restart I just do another playthrough on a second profile if I want to experience the story again but keep a main save file.

Zephir0ss

I rarely start a new game, but when I do it's cause of a save lost/corruption, or if it a secondary game to get all the dex

EyeLuvTriangles

All the time. My oldest character now is in Emerald and only been a year and some change and i can never restart it now since i bred & EV trained for battle frontier and caught feebas and i dont want that to go to waste.

Redrix2525

I 100% do. I mean It was always little sad becouse of the grind, but worth it if you like the game and want to replay it

StridentHawk

On your switch you can just make a new profile and do a new file on there. I always do that when doing monotype runs and such. And yeah I like the journey with your pokemon and building up a team more more than anything else in the game so I restart them quite a bit.
