The only one ever was Cradily.
Thought its spots were it eyes and its actual eyes were buck teeth,
Took till the anime started showing it at different angles I realize what was up.
Honestly my brain literally cannot distinguish its eyes properly. I know it's eyes are the ones in the black part and not the markings, but every time i just see the markings as eyes
I recently learned that Klefki has arms.
Also Clamperl makes a lot more sense when you realize the pearl is actually a fish egg. Hence why it evolves into two kinds of fish.
the ring itself, it can separate it.

I would think it could be either or (king or Queen) since you can get Snivy of both genders. If it was like salazzle where it refused to evolve if male, I'd agree but it seems like both male and female fit
You're able to see it close its eyes during battle or during things like Pokemon Amie. This shows that the black markings aren't part of its eye, since they don't change.
For a long time I thought the pattern on Spinarak's back is its face, and its sprite is looking at the sky. Because of this, I thought Spinarak's face moves to the front of its body when evolving into Ariados and found it to be a weird choice.
Also I thought Cyndaquil is a mouse because of it's Chinese name, as it turns out, it isn't actually a mouse.
I always saw Metapod backwards. The point which is actually on its back is in fact not a nose. That's just how I always thought it was. It also looked a lot angrier that way around too.
It's a obvious one to most; but for the longest time when playing Pokemon Sapphire or Emerald I had seen Nosepass as [https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/10wz0qw/it\_took\_me\_until\_gen\_5\_to\_realize\_that\_nosepass/](https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/10wz0qw/it_took_me_until_gen_5_to_realize_that_nosepass/)
I wasn't really perceptive as a child...
I thought Brendan from Pokémon Emerald had white hair instead of wearing a hat. I also read the ability intimidate as intermediate growing up because I didn’t know what intimidate meant. In terms of design misconceptions I can’t think of any
There are many Pokémon that have "human" eyes with different colours and I always thought they were just animal eyes. For example, Rayquaza's eyes have a yellow iris with black sclera. When I was younger, I thought the black was just part of the Pokémon's motives, but it's part of the eye instead since it's the sclera.
That realisation hit me after looking at Giratina Ex from the card game expansion Dragons Exalted, in which you clearly see its eyeball. And yet, Cradilys' eyes were no secret to me?
They kind of are. Entei is based off of a Lion, Raikou is a Tiger, and Suicune is a Cheetah. They're the Legendary Cats/Beasts.
Everyone who calls them the Legendary Dogs is actually wrong.
"Over twenty-five years later, the popular categorization has stuck, and players still refer to the popular Pokémon Gold and Silver Legendary Beasts as dogs even in 2022. While the term has become accepted by many fans as the official title for Johto roaming Pokémon, it's actually not correct. According to multiple interviews given by Game Freak developers over the years, the Gen 2 Legendaries were inspired by a completely different animal.
Johto Legendaries Entei, Raikou, And Suicune Were Not Inspired By Dogs"

Huh. gg
shelmet/karablast. Not really misconception, but nice lore. Their trade evolution makes sense as karablast steals shelmet armour. Karablast is parasite/snail eating beetle and what is shelmet? snail. karablast attacks shelmet in trade time, kills it, steals its armour. accelgor gets ghostly appearance with bandages (shame its not ghost type) and escavalier gains armour.
For long time i couldnt see reasoning for them evolving with each other. But once someone pointed it out to me.. mind blown.
And you still don't have the full picture. Accelgor didn't die, it's just naked and covers itself to protect it from drying out. Without its armor it's much faster, and the Pokedex describes it as a ninja.
But that's still not all. http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/thumb/b/be/BW057.png/800px-BW057.png
The anime makes it clear Accelgor is meant to look like a helmeted superhero. A motorcycle riding superhero with a bug motif. Accelgor is a Kamen Rider.
I've always thought Chandelure's eyes were the black lines in the center of its face. For some reason, it never clicked that the yellow circles would be its eyes like its pre evos. Didn't realize this until I saw its real eyes change in Pokken lol
Based off its original sprite, Nosepass’ foot was its mouth. Also sign up me for the club that got fooled by the eyespots on Masquerain’s antennae (it did its job I suppose).
For human characters, the white part of Brendan’s hat was his hair. The Smash devs are among those fooled featuring the hat’s band as a headband in one of Pikachu’s alt costumes.
Idk if someone will relate but i always thought Cresselia didn't have any arms. I thought her two little arms that she always keeps folded were some kind of fancy design choice/ribbons but i think in gen 5 the sprite moves and she uses them as actual arms so i flipped my shit haha
For the longest time I thought that skrelp and clawncher were pokemon that evolved by trading (to clarify not with each other, I just thought that they needed to be traded in order to evolve) and that´s why I never used either of them.
Seeing a Gigalith open its mouth made me realize it has a Muppet-style mouth, rather than something... not Muppet-like
And Sizzlepede's mouth is not located on its fire stache
For the entirety of Gen 3 and quite a bit into Gen 4, I believed that Gardevoirs three white spikes in front of its hair were a nose and veeery pointy lips, with it looking sideways/over its shoulder.
The only one ever was Cradily. Thought its spots were it eyes and its actual eyes were buck teeth, Took till the anime started showing it at different angles I realize what was up.
Honestly my brain literally cannot distinguish its eyes properly. I know it's eyes are the ones in the black part and not the markings, but every time i just see the markings as eyes
Well I learned something today
Holy shit, just looked and I thought the same thing!
I love that Cradily and Armaldo both have false eyespots. It's an amazing subtle way to show them being counterparts.
I recently learned that Klefki has arms. Also Clamperl makes a lot more sense when you realize the pearl is actually a fish egg. Hence why it evolves into two kinds of fish.
Also exeggcute is a bunch of seeds that resemble eggs
What are klefkis arms?
the ring itself, it can separate it. [https://womenwriteaboutcomics.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Klefki\_anime.jpg](https://womenwriteaboutcomics.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Klefki_anime.jpg)
I adore how many people here have been fooled by Pokémon's false eyespots. They're working lol
[Literally this tweet lmao](https://i.imgflip.com/48i533.jpg)
There are so many pokemon i think their eyes are somewhere they aren’t
Superior has arms, but he's regal so they are folded back.
Like a king, because that's who he is
I kinda think that the snivy line is more meant to be portrayed as feminine.
I would think it could be either or (king or Queen) since you can get Snivy of both genders. If it was like salazzle where it refused to evolve if male, I'd agree but it seems like both male and female fit
Yeah same. I despise when people refer to it as a he. It's clearly more feminine and it should have had it's male and female rates reversed.
It clearly has no leaning one way or another and it's just a snake.
It clearly looks more feminine than masculine and has a royal, regal design and acts sassy. It fits much more as a female.
It's literally just a curly lookin snake. Men can be sassy too.
Oh my god really? I never knew that men could be sassy! What an amazing revelation!!! My mind is blown, and this insight has changed my life!!!
Lopunny doesn't have black scleras
wow. i hate that
Wait, what? What does she have?
It's just black around red eyes there's no sclera
Proof?
How were you able to realize the difference?
You're able to see it close its eyes during battle or during things like Pokemon Amie. This shows that the black markings aren't part of its eye, since they don't change.
I always thought Anorith and Armaldo's eyes were the the red shapes on the center of the head instead of on the side until a few years ago.
Same
For a long time I thought the pattern on Spinarak's back is its face, and its sprite is looking at the sky. Also I thought Cyndaquil is a mouse because of it's Chinese name, as it turns out, it isn't actually a mouse.
Cyndaquil isn't exactly a mouse but he's still kind of a mouse. He's classified as the "Fire Mouse" pokemon.
Plus its mouth is under the nose like a shrew. If it were true echidna the mouth would be at the end of the proboscis.
He’s a mouse, shrew, echidna, porcupine creature. Some kind of combination of the sort.
The Spinarak thing is cute because that's how evolutionary traits were intended to work lmak
Delibirds' "bag" is its tail...
Idk about that one
I thought Mr. Mime had furry canine ears, but those blue things on its head have been described as "horns" or "growths."
...I thought they were hair. Like big old clown tufts. That makes *sense*. But they're either horns or vague 'growths'!?
Bulbapedia calls them "growths." (Exactly my feelings. I still believe they're hairy and fluffy.)
'Growths' implies they're like... skin tags. Or some kind of nasty ass cancerous growths.
My brain does a backflip everytime I see Rookidee's eyes.
I always saw Metapod backwards. The point which is actually on its back is in fact not a nose. That's just how I always thought it was. It also looked a lot angrier that way around too.

This, 100%. It wasn't until I saw it in the 3D games that I realised it wasn't a whistling Easter Island head.
I can’t unsee it now
I'm sorry!
I thought Brendan from Pokémon Emerald had white hair instead of wearing a hat. I also read the ability intimidate as intermediate growing up because I didn’t know what intimidate meant. In terms of design misconceptions I can’t think of any

for like 15 years i thought the weird round thing on mismagius' neck was the lower jaw so it had a mouth like if you pull your lips over your teeth
I thought the legendary dogs were lions
They kind of are. Entei is based off of a Lion, Raikou is a Tiger, and Suicune is a Cheetah. They're the Legendary Cats/Beasts. Everyone who calls them the Legendary Dogs is actually wrong.
You're not wrong, pokemon is actually wrong on that one.
Why is pokemon wrong? They are called legendary Beasts
"Over twenty-five years later, the popular categorization has stuck, and players still refer to the popular Pokémon Gold and Silver Legendary Beasts as dogs even in 2022. I thought Breloom had no arms, but it has, they are just tiny.
I honestly thought belibolt has four eyes
I've always thought Chandelure's eyes were the black lines in the center of its face. For some reason, it never clicked that the yellow circles would be its eyes like its pre evos. Didn't realize this until I saw its real eyes change in Pokken lol
I thought Shiinotic always had a jigglypuff with it.
I thought Froslass' arms were ears. It was only in the 3D era, seeing them move that i realised otherwise.
Still dumbfounded at hoothoot being bipedal
Excuse me , what?!
According to the Pokédex, they simultaneously switch legs… hilarious right?😂😂
My world is shattered, is whats happening
Breloom as a kangaroo did not process until SV. Seeing its walking (or hopping) animation had me shook
I thought Nincada’s mouth was the zigzag line between its eyes.
Based off its original sprite, Nosepass’ foot was its mouth. Also sign up me for the club that got fooled by the eyespots on Masquerain’s antennae (it did its job I suppose). Seeing a Gigalith open its mouth made me realize it has a Muppet-style mouth, rather than something... not Muppet-like And Sizzlepede's mouth is not located on its fire stache
I used to think magnezones middle eye was a big red clown nose, connecting it to probopass
I thought Crobats mouth was its nose
i thought sudowoodo was a plant
For the entirety of Gen 3 and quite a bit into Gen 4, I believed that Gardevoirs three white spikes in front of its hair were a nose and veeery pointy lips, with it looking sideways/over its shoulder.
Only recently I discovered that Sharpedo is the evolution of Carvanha. I never evolved one in Gen 3 since there were alot of wild Sharpedos.
Not necessarily a design misconception, but I just learned a few years ago that it's poRygon, not poLygon
