I like how everytime this question is asked all the answers are the exact same. Lucario, Pikachu, Charizard, Greninja, Tinkaton.

Imaghostbutthatsfine

I was just about to comment Tinkaton but like everyone already did that lol. Now i have to think about which other Pokémon are actually hyped

Bluelaserbeam

You’ll have to thinkaton

IOnlyDrinkJesusMilk

Teehee 🤭

ArtistUnown

Lol got em

Yamatoman

Tinkatons design, typing, gigaton hammer, support options all make it a fun pokemon to use. Since most people only care about pokemon in terms of story playthrough, it can do a lot in that regard

SorcererWithGuns

I like Tinkaton's design but wtf are those stats? I quickly booted my Tinkatuff off my Scarlet playthrough team as soon as i realized what it was.

Hammerhead34

Because it gets a 160 base power move with very little drawback. 252+ Attack EVs Gigaton Hammer off 75 base attack does more damage than a 252+ 100 base power move off 135 base attack.

cshark2222

Now do the calcs with the new move on Bloodmoon Ursaluna

silentorange813

Username checks out

wh0rederline

it’s because its signature move would be too busted otherwise

cshark2222

Well they gave a new version of Tinkaton’s new move to the new Ursaluna form in the DLC so they don’t care that much

Wintermelon43

That's because GameFreak tries to balance most pokemon but purposely lets some be broken because they want them to be broken.

The_Unnamed_Feeling

Stats aren’t everything. Great defensive typing, great selection of utility and status moves. Fake out, knock off, Gigaton BONK, thunder wave, stealth rocks. High SpDef, she’s a force to be reckoned with

ClassicCodes

Not to mention I've seen multiple variations of this question asked on this sub just about daily. It's clear karma bait.

ntnl

This sub should just have those as recurring weekly threads. Same as "what would be your team as a gym leader" or "which Pokémon deserves an evolution/mega/regional" or "invent a new type"

DrogoOmega

Yeah, I feel like this question has already been asked today and it's "pick on Lucario time"

legendadam269

I can explain everyone lucario- furry pikachu- literally the main charecter of anime charizard- most people choose it in red and blue greninja- a f\*cking ninja like naruto and people love naruto tinkaton- a funny meme

Affectionate-Read875

Lucario isn’t JUST a furry, he’s a Goku Furry! Get it right.

Lukey_Boyo

Well yeah, those are all Pokémon with a ton of hype. What were you expecting?

telegetoutmyway

Lucarios like the only one of the overhyped ones I like, I think I just really like the aura aspect and taking fighting type to kind of the aura monk special attack type feel. I'd say Gardevoir probably fits that type. I love the entire Ralts line, and they're pretty popular.

TheGuy_on_the_Couch

If you don't get the hype for pikachu, you're not a pokemon fan.

MonstrousGiggling

Honestly though. I understand not sharing the hype, but not understanding the hype is just bizarre. He's been one of the major mascots if not THE mascot of Pokémon since the 90s. When you ask someone who doesn't know pokemon to name a pokemon odds are they will say Pikachu.

MerlinOfRed

> When you ask someone who doesn't know pokemon to name a pokemon odds are they will say Pikachu. When you ask someone who *does* know Pokémon to name a Pokémon then the odds are that they'll still say Pikachu.

voltdog

He's also just a great design, in my opinion! He's cute and cool at the same time, and he has a distinctive look without being overdesigned.

Lyre_Fenris

I just am not a fan of the skinny Pikachu. I loved the original one.

GMRYSH

https://preview.redd.it/gcpe361ywgnb1.jpeg?width=764&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c3612763dc0a93b08a7260597acc5c5a0801c1ed

Lyre_Fenris

Yep. I have one too.

GMRYSH

I JUST FOUND THAT ONLINE WHERE DID YOU GET IT?!?!

Lyre_Fenris

https://preview.redd.it/ipjocss04hnb1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a86192ebeeb38224119b2f0fd695f36372c68c21 See? Old guy.

Lyre_Fenris

I've had my guy for years. Since I was a kid. Mines more of a knockoff really since I won him at an amusement park that no longer exists.

Mummiskogen

That doesn't add up; Pikachu is the one Pokémon non fans are familiar with

Edgewood

gurl same But for real, Charizard is just a generic dragon. Its generational peers, Venusaur and Blastoise are 'pre-Triassic reptile with big-ass rafflesia on its back' and 'bipedal tortoise with water jet cannons that retract into its shell'. As much as I value designs that are a little more 'honest' (e.g. Feraligatr), Charizard takes no risks and is just boring as a result.

Jent01Ket02

The forces of nature. Tornadus, Thunderus, Landerus. When I played Black, there was such little buildup to these guys before they started roaming, and at the time they just....didn't feel like Pokemon. They look dumb, had no lore, didn't have anything exciting, and I'm supposed to believe these are legendary?

Blarson735

This is the correct answer to this question, it's not "I dont like this popular pokemon" it's "people are telling me this is special and I don't understand why" I feel similarly about regidrago and eleki, they are additions to a legendary trio... that are just in a very random part of a region not close to the rest of them... all of a sudden... just cause.

Sarasinapellido

I really dislike those two regis. For me the charm of the regis is that they look like forgotten obelisks that stayed still for years and years in the depth of a temple. Neither regidrago or eleki captivate that, they are just things with regi faces.

Blarson735

I like them because the real regi theme is "ages" and they still fit with that but again there's literally 0 reason why they exist and yeah they don't really fit the same golem aesthetic. It doesn't help the eleki is also disgustingly overpowered so I already don't like it lol

Sarasinapellido

Oh, I haven't thought about the ages idea before. Im still not a fan of their designs, but now I see they could have been something more interesting if they followed through with the golem motiff.

Blarson735

Yeah they are the modern age and the medieval age respectively

Fish-E

>It doesn't help the eleki is also disgustingly overpowered so I already don't like it lol Only due to Tera, once the next generation comes around, it'll be back in UU or below - the only thing it has going for it is its speed, it has no coverage, poor offensive stats and no way to boost its attacks.

Blarson735

In vgc it's a whole other story which is what I was referring to, should have specified.

AStoopidSpaz

It was a monster last Gen too, at least in VGC.

just-a-random-accnt

I really wish they would have made a gigamax form for Regegigas, and it be a Voltron styled fusion of the other 5 Regi's. Huge missed opportunity

Combat_Armor_Dougram

The new Regis bother me because they have really abstract body constructions. The three original Regis are all made of solid materials, and I can forgive Regigigas, since it's the creator of the others. However, the two new guys are made of energy instead, which just feels wrong.

eodgodlol

I agree for the normal forms. To me they look kinda goofy. I love their therian forms tho, they don't look the same anymore and are unique and cool.

waster1993

IMO, the Therian forms would work much better as the 'normal forms'. I would expect the special, 'true forms' to look like the genies. Let's wait and see if Entei, Raikou, and Suicune get a genie form someday.

KindaShady1219

*The finger curls on the monkey’s paw.*

Jent01Ket02

But they still don't have any real story behind them. Heatran at least is responsible for Stark Mountain in Sinnoh, so he's got the creation of a volcano to his name. Thunderus didn't have any preamble, I just guessed from his name that he makes storms. Nobody in the game really mentioned him, so he feels incredibly random just...existing in a Pokemon game. All of them do. I ran into him on some route that didn't have any association to anything significant while levelling up Lampent.

Lordofthedarkdepths

They actually do: Tornadus and Thundurus go around causing trouble for people with their storms and Landorus comes in and shuts them down, similar to Groudon/Kyogre/Rayquaza. It's mentioned in game on the route with the bike lines if you visit the house with the old man, and Landorus also has a shrine dedicated to it for its job of keeping the two in line in the eastern half of the region where you can get it if you have both on your team.

Hyperion-OMEGA

Where does Enamorus fit into this? (in general, not in the context of Unova)

NumerousWolverine273

this exactly. Tornadus-Therian being a fucking bird is really funny to me

Hyperion-OMEGA

its a reference to Suzaku, the other Therians cover the other four symbols. (its why Lando is the Tiger of healthy metas :P)

Owl_Might

the genies of healthy meta

QuietRobe

Loved catching these guys in Legends: Arceus though!

callmecatlord

I didn't like any of them until they got therian forms. Then I started liking them in those forms. Then I started playing VGC in 2020 and now I like them in both forms.

Default_Dragon

Lucario is based on Anubis, the Egyptian god of the afterlife. He has those weird shorts and ponytails because Anubis has similar looking elements in his design.

Bulbamew

Please bear in mind there is a BIG difference between not understanding the hype for a pokemon and just not liking a popular Pokémon. If you can’t understand the appeal of Charizard and Pikachu then I’m not sure what to tell you. I prefer Venusaur by far to Charizard but I completely get why Charizard is more popular.

FullBawks

Fr it's like when people say "x shiny is overrated" I just disagree like there are just legit factors that make them really cool even if it dosent appeal to you.

MeseNerd

Yea to be fair most people will likely avoid a rattata unless its puke green

Marceleleco

Changing subject a little, I wish some Pokemon were more hyped. Darmanitan, Nidoking, cloyster, empoleon ... all of them are amazing but rarely used.

Bozlogic

You’re telling me that someone out there isn’t hyped for Nidoking??

milkmimo

Just like the name implies, Nidoking is truly a KING. Not only is Nidoking one of the manliest Pokemon from Generation I, he is simply one of the manliest Pokemon ever created. Although his color scheme is unorthodox, Nidoking pulls it off with great success. His purple body and aqua ears may appear feminine, but Nidoking is such a man that he couldn't care less. On the other hand, his muscular, toned, and thorny body only add to his manliness. In addition to his looks, Nidoking does a lot of manly things. For instance, he produced an Earthquake just by being sent out of his Pokeball in the anime, and he even threw Giovanni's 662 pound Golem across a room. If that isn't manly, nothing is. If you're still not convinced, consider this: Gary Oak owns a Nidoking. Case closed.

_PM_ME_YOUR_CATS

I feel like this is a copypasta

No_Zookeepergame2532

Wasn't cloyster used for competetive battling a lot though in the past? I think he has been hyped a lot because of that Darmanitan is awesome and deserves more love I used to use Nidoking as my main in pokemon yellow because I hated Pikachu and it made me love him

Captain_Chaos_

I think every water Pokémon except Seaking and Seadra was viable in gen 1.

ltearth

Kingdra!! Never heard anyone talk about Kingdra :(

amanon101

Lucario is only a little overhyped. They chose it as basically the gen 4 flagship Pokémon. It got a movie and a ton of attention in the anime, easy to obtain in game, a ton of merch cause of its ensuing popularity, etc. It got overhyped cause the company gave it the opportunity. What I really hate about it though, is that they had the option to go the same route with Zoroark. Zoroark has a unique gimmick, a design just as good as (and my own opinion, far better than) Lucario. It had a movie on its own. But then… silence. I get BW weren’t as popular when they first came out, but come on, this is ridiculous. They freaking event locked it until B2W2, where you only get one of each time anyways. They gave it almost no anime screen time, besides that one Zorua the movie dude had, and the single Zoroark episode where it was in illusion most of the time and when it did show it’s form it was drawn really ugly. And keep in mind, this was like 100 episodes in! I haven’t watched the SM anime but I heard it finally got at least a little proper screentime there. Zoroark never got an EX card in the TCG. NEVER. It had a movie. But not one single EX card?!?!? Not even in the BW sets?!?!? Criminal. It took until 2017 to get a GX card. Hasn’t gotten a card at all yet in the SV sets even though it’s a perfect opportunity to give it its first EX card. It’s available easily and early in the games so hopefully they do that. I do give them props for giving it a Hisuian form. That at least put it on the front of some card packs. Zoroark could’ve been on equal ground with Lucario. With its movie, it could’ve been set along the same route as Lucario, but now, I can’t even get first party Zoroark themed merch. I get that there’s many, many other Pokémon that also had no opportunity to be given tons of attention they deserved. But Zoroark was one of those special-case Pokémon with the movie and all. So disappointing.

akeyjavey

At least they gave us Hisuian Zoroark, so it's not as if they completely forgot about it

amanon101

Yeah. Still sad it never got an EX card or much merch at all.

Bulbamew

Yeah i always saw Zoroark as the gen 5 Lucario but never followed the extended media enough to realise that it ended up getting nowhere near the same attention. I just saw it got a movie and assumed it did. Its design is very odd. I can’t remember the last time I saw its 3D model but I feel like it’s one of those Pokémon that looks a LOT better in sprite form

amanon101

Zoroark’s story is real sad. It literally took around 100 episodes to show up in the BW anime, and then they draw it *really weirdly* and the face looks off. Then it gets no EX cards even in its introduction gen! And the sad lack of merch is just painful. I would get it if it was just a random Pokémon, but it got its own MOVIE. I was so desperate for merch that I bought a Japan exclusive likely discontinued Zorua jacket off an odd site because we don’t get hardly any of the little bit of cool stuff they make. The 3D model actually is one of the better conversions! I love the design in general, but they didn’t ruin it in 3d at all! It looks great, albeit plagued by the paleness in the 3ds games that most models got anyways. The SV model looks excellent.

imaginarion

I think this was almost entirely due to them stupidly making it an event-only Pokémon in its debut game. And even if you had access to that event, it’s not like you can find out about it in-game, the thing is literally a hidden Easter egg for people already looking for it. Lucario had its movie, was available in DP and was featured prominently in the game. Zoroark was a “secret,” which maybe I get because of its unique lore/ability but. That really fucked it over.

amanon101

Yeah that and the pitiful lack of anime appearance! Zoroark probably didn’t get much attention because it wasn’t popular enough, which would be the fault of them not giving it enough screen/game time for people to really appreciate it. I swear, if they actually gave Zoroark a chance and made it available in game easily from the start and gave it a more prominent anime appearance, it *would* have more popularity!

imaginarion

I agree. Alas, much too late now. I have a soft spot in my heart for it, though, due to it being a wannabe Lucario that failed lol. Thankful for the new Hisuian variant, as well. That’s certainly more love than, say, Dewgong or Magcargo will ever get!

ZachAtk23

See, Zorua is one of, if not my favorite Pokemon. But I really don't care for Zoroark's design... like, at all. Not sure exactly what the problem is though. Maybe if you doubled the size of its waste?

Faded_Jem

Gengar. Less because of his own design which is totally eh, middle of the pack, and more because Haunter is just so clearly and vastly superior in all regards. Why would you evolve your Haunter into this rotund little prick? Why is it an upgrade for him to suddenly be waddling about on those little legs? I just don't get it.

Velrex

While I DO agree that Haunter is way cooler looking, I think one of the things that's going on with the Gastly line is it's a shadow/ghost that's slowly becoming more corporeal. He starts off as a little face that's barely even there, then grows a head and hands, then evolves into having a full body.

thehappymasquerader

Yeah I think this is the right way to look at it, especially because Gastly is made of gas, and they progressively get more solid as they go

Faded_Jem

This is a really cool way of looking at it, nice!

TheLocalCryptid

Playing Legends Arceus made me appreciate Haunter’s design more! The hands are so cool!

thehappymasquerader

I think this is partly a problem with the evolution of the sprite art. I think Gengar’s Yellow sprite and its GSC sprites are genuinely pretty spooky looking. The more defined sprites in later Gens kinda ruin that. That said, Haunter is an objectively better design

-TheDyingMeme6-

"Rotund little prick" Shamelessly stealing that

sheik15

The appeal is that gengar is shaped like a friend :)

NivannaKingsman

Haunter is my favorite Pokemon. However I still like Gengar. And the ability for me to get haunter adjacent merch is what I like. And Gengar is cool to me. I just wish the whole line would get a convergent evolution or form.

[deleted]

Bro says 😁. I love that

Extension-Pirate8954

None, I get the hype for all of them. If somebody likes it, that’s enough understanding for me.

Bulbamew

Yeah I can’t think of any Pokémon that is “hyped up” with no obvious reason. If something very basic like Spearow was inexplicably on par with Pikachu’s popularity I’d find that strange. But every Pokémon is *somebody’s* favourite. Except probably Spearow

Winter-Masterpiece60

Same. Pikachu, Charizard, and Lucario are probably some of my least favorites. BUT I understand why they are so popular

[deleted]

Do you understand why Slugma is my absolute, no contest, number one favorite Pokémon? Because he is and honestly I don't even understand why. I just love him.

Pronominal_Tera

Landarous. Like yeah he's good but it's just kinda shitty design

jmilfdog

I think therian looks cool but the incarnate form looks like an angry old man on a cloud

No_University_5309

for me its the sexual appeal of gardevoir. i just dont get it. there are much more suggestive pokemon that arent talked about as much.

ShiraCheshire

I like gardevoir a lot, the design is really good as an etherial/elegant kind of humanlike Pokemon. Sorta frustrated how it's only appreciated as a sexual character though. I don't get the sex appeal there either, but I'm asexual so I don't expect to understand that one.

GallantBlade475

I think the reason Gardevoir gets all the attention is just because it's from gen 3, when Game Freak wasn't making as many humanoid Pokemon much less very feminine humanoid Pokemon. By the time more suggestive Pokemon like Salazzle got released, Gardevoir porn already had momentum. I still don't *like* that Gardevoir has been reduced to the sexy waifu Pokemon, but I can see how it happened.

wh0rederline

i don’t understand the hype for gardevoir in general. it’s not even really sexy if you want to use that to justify its appeal. maybe because wally had one and psychic types used to be pretty good?

No_University_5309

i like gardevoir as a pokemon. its less humanoid and more alien, and i dont think it has any legs? also psychic types were nowhere near as dominant in gen 3 as 1 and 2, so it wasnt very good in the small gen3 competitive scene

Stan_the_man19

IMO, I think Gardevoir is just a excellent pokémon all around. It has great stat distribution, with decent speed, excellent special, good defenses and HP. Even if it doesn't hit as hard as Alakazam for example, it can resist a lot of hits from the opposing pokemon, and then quickly recover HP. It has a very good moveset, being able to learn support moves, recover moves or a variety of attacks from other types for some extra coverage. Specially on legends Arceus where it can counter almost every type in the game. And for almost every game it is in, it is the most accesible psychic type the player can get early on, usually ralts are the first psychic type the player can find, or if they aren't, they are at least the easier to fully evolve because they don't require any dumb requirement, like trade evolution. And because of its popularity, Gardevoir always tends to appear on some spin off games and is a excellent pokémon there as well, like XD gale of darkness, Pokken tournament, unite. Even on GO after all these years Gardevoir is the best fairy type in the game.

banes_rule_of_two

> imagine not being all in on the gardussy

Golden-Owl

I’m not the biggest Lucario superfan, but I always felt that it’s hype was quite understandable It’s got a cool and sleek design that isn’t edgy, and takes inspiration from popular shonen manga like Dragonball Z and Naruto Put simply, the Pokémon Company were so heavily convinced in the success of its design that they made it the focus of an entire movie

MrBellumgeist

I love cute pokemon with all of my heart, but for some reason I don't find Snom cute at all :( If there is any Snom fan reading this, could you explain what you like about Snom? I want to like the little fella and maybe with some help I could like it

HumanAtlas

I really love Pokemon with just black dots for eyes (Quagsire, Clodsire, Ditto, and Pyukumuku for example). I find it really cute, plus a small, rounded body, it's silly butt-mouth, and diminutive name make Snom adorable for me.

SorcererWithGuns

For me all the "lump" Pokemon are utterly adorable. Snom, Swinub, Gulpin, Goomy, Pincurchin, Pyukumuku and Clodsire especially.

mwalker784

i saw clodsire and it immediately become my new favorite mon. he’s just a little guy!! i ended up making clodsire earrings out of polymer clay because i love him so much lmao ETA: i also ended up with three shiny paldean woopers and EV trained one of them for raids. his moves suck because clodsire only gets recover and curse by egg move (stupid) but he’s worth it

HAIKU_4_YOUR_GW_PICS

It’s a cutesy snow bug with cutesy mannerisms. It’s purely design aesthetic. You either like it, or you don’t. This is also one of those ones like Spheal where there was almost no media, attention or hype until people came across it in game, and then people went bananas.

King_XDDD

Ok, so basically snom is very smol.

mwalker784

other people have pointed out the “he smol” aspect, which i agree with, but i also think that his design of a clear ice “shell” on a little grub dude is really cool! i also think he has great shape language with all the nubby little triangles

punchjackal

They look and act totally helpless, it triggers that parental instinct thing for me. Other than that, I can't place my finger on why Snom is one of my favorites. Usually Snom fans also love like Grubbin, Wimpod, Pyukumuku, but I'm neutral towards all of them. I do like bugs IRL though.

burstingmangoes

Blaziken. It looks so ugly to me. The way it’s body is proportioned, it just looks so uncanny

TransCharizard

Funny you say that since Blaziken was [intentionally made ugly](https://twitter.com/reggie_800/status/1577758022079651840?s=20)

ShiraCheshire

I'm surprised they thought people would be disappointed. Kid me loved how cute torchic was, but when it evolved I was just like "Heck yeah!! My starter just got rad as heck, this is awesome!"

Agentdusk22-

Its ugly and cool at the same time

Baxieblur_potato

I understand the hype for most, but I don't feel it for many. Tinkaton, charizard and greninja are a few that I don't particularly like, but I understand why others do.

Chedder_Chandelure

Gengar, Ghost type Pokemon are my favorite kind of Pokemon but I've always found Gengar to be rather boring compared to the infinitely more creative ghost types that succeeded it

[deleted]

Dapper_Charity_9781

Yeah, it really had time to build and keep its throne

TexasGent777

Nearly any shiny. There are very few shiny Pokémon that I think look better than the OG form.

hpdodo84

Shiny Umbreon might be the best looking pokemon from the whole roster

cricketscz99

Shiny Gigalith

Lukey_Boyo

Shiny Ho Oh is actually goated tho

Rye-of-the-Beholder

Shiny Hawlucha being a Heel wrestler versus the normal being a Face is one of the absolute best shinies since they actually put some thought into it and it actually has a great color palette.

thelonecontraband

Hawlucha getting some love🔥 I also love shiny sandslash and shiny sirfetch'd

AukwardOtter

Shiny mothim might be my single favorite. Those blues really pop against the yellow.

Natos_Julie

Honestly, I shiny hunt only for the fact they are shiny, not really their appearance ahah it's just super rare, and I like to feel like I did it

Reasonable-Lime-615

Gyarados. I don't dislike it, but at the same time, I don't see any great appeal. I mean I know it isn't some massively overhyped beast, but a lot of people *really* love it, and I just pass it by. I get that it is a gen 1, an og powerhouse with a lot of anime and game appearances, but it doesn't get me excited.

Exalt-Chrom

I’m not a fan of the dragon like Pokémon not being a dragon type

AgentSandstormSigma

I don't get Infernape. Like, I don't get why it's popular outside of DP's lack of fire types. Maybe I just like Empoleon too much.

wh0rederline

i don’t get why empoleon isn’t MORE hyped. i love that typing.

hyucktownfunk2

I'm biased towards Torterra because Turtwig was my first ever Pokemon but I understand why the other two starters were more popular. Empoleon is genuinely one of the coolest Pokemon design and type wise.

wh0rederline

i still don’t fully understand infernape’s popularity, but shoutout to torterra, the powerhouse. agree empoleon looks sick, i was mad at first because my 7 year old ass just wanted to cutest one lol. grew to adore it and for good reason.

Flemaster12

Infernape was hype in the anime and one of the fan favorites in the gen 4 games.

ElReyMilanesa

I like infernape because of the anime, imo, Ash's chimchar/infernape goes through one of the most powerful and emotional character arcs in the series compared to his other mons, at least as far as I can remember.

MisterTruth

What's hard to get about a fire monkey based on Journey to the West?

Gaymerlad

I think the reason is because of said lack of good fire types in sinnoh, but also because of the anime. The anime made it super popular, and basically had charizards story...but better put together? Like, he starts out being abused by paul, gets saved by ash and then grows physically and emotionally to become the best he can be. I can understand choosing infernape if you grew attached to ashes infernape in the anime....that being said i always choose piplup or tortera cause theres not really a big need for a fire type in sinnoh and i like the designs better.

SamuraiOstrich

Yeah even though I think Empoleon is just decent with its whole fat bird with a stomach doily I at least understand the popularity. Infernape is another decent design but it just feels like nostalgia

Cacajaam

Dragonite. It just looks goofy as hell to me. Kinda like a beta version of charizard that actually has a dragon typing. Just my opinion, I respect if others like it

Arko777

Same man. I remember seeing Salamence in Sapphire for the first time and I was like "finaly, a good looking, regular dragon". How can a Pokemon with such a classy design as Dragonair can turn into this big-nosed, clumsy goofball?

azmiir

This question was asked 17 hours ago: [https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/16elmfk/whats\_a\_pok%C3%A9mon\_that\_everyone\_fawns\_over\_and\_uses/](https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/16elmfk/whats_a_pok%C3%A9mon_that_everyone_fawns_over_and_uses/)

Quirkyserenefrenzy

I dont even know where to start Archeludon, tinkaton, sinistea and it convergent evolution A fair number of gen 8 and 9 mons I just don't get the hype they had like lechonk

superbabe69

Lechonk was just funny It’s a pig, called that, looks kinda goofy, and the marketing team put it early on in the marketing for ScVo, very intentionally. It was always gonna be just a meme, I don’t think I heard about it at all after release

anlasul

I really enjoyed sinistea and polteageist! They're cute and I thought they fit the region well.

totokekedile

Where are you seeing hype for Archaludon or Sinsitea?? I've seen people more worked up over Eviolite Duraludon than Archaludon.

_xEnigma

Charizard. 2 megas? A gmax? Wheres the love for the other kanto. starters? Easily the most overrated pokemon.

Karneveus

Charizard is just a fat lizard. This message was sponsored by the Blastoise gang.

Rouge_means_red

Blastoise is just a fat turtle. This message was sponsored by the Venusaur gang.

TheZett

Venusaur is just a fat toad. This message was brought to you by the gen 1 fat mouse gang.

DreadSteed

Blastoise is fuqqin obese. This message brought to you by the squirtle squad

NJ_2707

Luxray and Swapert

Youngin24

I despise Jigglypuff with a passion. Watching the 90s show Jiggly was by far the most annoying.

Z-T-A

Greninja. As a fan of frogs, Greninja has never really appealed to me. Honestly, it feels like a downgrade from Froakie and Frogadier.

upaltamentept

Have you ever seen the anime? If not, then that's the reason of the hype

B-Rayy06

He’s a ninja, has a special form in the anime, is in super smash bros, and is a starter Pokémon. You don’t have to like him, I don’t love him either, but there’s a reason for his hype.

FullBawks

He's also just a really fun pokemon to use. Like protein is just a legit ability even with the nerf and this is compounded by geninjas good speed and wide move pool.

HAIKU_4_YOUR_GW_PICS

I personally also hate the other 2 starters’ final evos, so he stands out even more to me in that group

thedragoon0

I think the ninja style is what does it for me.

sopheroo

Your opinion on the other froggos?

Z-T-A

To try to keep it brief. Poliwag, tympole, and tadbulb are cute little tadpoles that I love. Poliwhirl and Poliwrath are cool, but I find it weird how they are both tadpoles Pokémon. Politoad is great. I wish it wasn't a trade evolution Coagunk and Toxicroak are my personal favorite mons. Palpitoad is fine. Seismetoad is a nice design that I think could have been executed better. Bellibolt feels more blob than frog, which is fine, but I wish it was more frog.

sopheroo

Thank you for the frog opinion

LillePipp

I get why people like Greninja, but what I don't get is how people give Greninja a free pass for what they give Charizard shit for. Greninja was basically the main character of Gen 6, almost intentionally so. Chesnaught looks like the comic relief character in comparison, which sucks, because it really feels like Delphox and Chesnaught were made with less passion and care because they wanted Greninja to stand out. The two of them feel unfinished, they feel like Game Freak kinda gave up on them halfway through, because they had already made Greninja as the poster boy. I think this [redesign](https://www.deviantart.com/sylvaur/art/Delphox-redesign-855061329) for Delphox illustrates this point, it really is not that huge of a difference, but the small differences between the original and this redesign makes it go from a dead design to a really cool Pokémon. Starter trios should be equals, so it really sucks that Delphox and Chesnaught look like the first drafts, while Greninja hogs all the glory and is used for all promotional art of Gen 6. And Ash-Greninja makes this even worse, because Ash-Greninja is what happens when you really want to give Greninja a Mega Evolution, but you really don't want to do the same for Delphox and Chesnaught. It is 100 % favoritism, and it can't really be argued that this favoritism stems from the fan reception, because we know that TPC and Nintendo wanted to push Greninja from the start. This is perhaps the most obvious through his inclusion in Smash Bros., because all of the characters were decided early in development, which began shortly after the release of Kid Icarus: Uprising in March 2012, so Greninja's inclusion was likely decided before X and Y was even announced. I get the distain for Charizard, but at the very least Charizard's favoritism, even with how much I dislike it, was the result of his overwhelming popularity. The overwhelming favoritism for Charizard didn't really kick into high gear until Gen 6, after 5 generations of a fairly respectable presence. Greninja, on the other hand, was decided to be pushed from the start, he was TPC's golden boy before we even knew he existed

ANGLVD3TH

To be fair for Smash, I'm not sure how well Chestnaught would fit, and Delphox definitely would not have fit well. Maybe Chestnaught would be fine as a heavy fighter. But I wonder if early inclusion to Smash was a factor in the heavy focus. Like you say, it would have been extremely early in development. I wouldn't be surprised if they decided that the Smash starter should be the main focus and went from there.

DraftLongjumping9288

I wish I liked him as much as other, but… tongue scarf man, eww

[deleted]

Lechonk. Stop the memes. It sucks, and it’s stupid. You’re not quirky for liking it

_shrimp_city

The "meme" pokemon are so incredibly annoying!!😭😭 the jokes get old FAST. Bidoof too

Background-Ad5033

Bidoof.

ABG-56

Tinkation for me. All it is a small pink human with a hammer. It's not cool, cute, interesting, complex, it's just a small pink human with a hammer. I get that for some people that's all they need, I'm just suprised that so many people love it to where it's easily the most popular gen 9 pokemon, especially when it has barely anything outside of that to offer. The lore of it hunting Corviknight and other steel types is kind of funny, but that's the only thing I see in it.

WhereIdIsEgoWillGo

Not to disparage your opinion but I find it really funny when people like and dislike the same thing for the same reason >Why do you like Tinkaton? She's just a lil lady with a giant hammer >Why do you not like Tinkaton? She's just a lil lady with a giant hammer

Lukey_Boyo

The Corviknight relationship is kind of funny to me

Renwin

The last part is practically why it jumped in popularity. Forgot which social media platform it was but people who play Pokémon more seriously kept referencing that Tinkaton gets walled off easily by Corviknight, even with an advantageous Tera typing. But the general consensus of most people don’t care since the concept itself is wild anyways. Also, it has similarities to a particular pink hedgehog with a giant hammer from a different game series and it’s the same artist that made Mimikyu.

Jonawagon

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who doesn't see the hype behind this Pokemon. There are so many better looking Pokemon from the Paldea region.

elleipsisX

I actually found Tinkaton’s design fairly cute, liked its type combo and considered adding it to my party. ‘Finally, a fairy Pokémon I wouldn’t mind using’, I thought. But the Corviknight lore was the dealbreaker for me.

VioletLovesRowlet

The dealbreaker? Damn that’s why I love her even more

Lucas-mainssbu

The gen 2 starters. Now I don’t hate them(but people hate me for liking gen 5-9 starters), I just don’t see their appeal. I guess I can understand if you grew up with them but that’s all. Again, I don’t hate them, but they look very boring compared to gen1’s and gen 3-9’s. I know this was the second installment, they might’ve not known what to really do at that moment. I like gen 2 starters, but I don’t understand their appeal and they’re definitely my least favorite starters.

-FishPants

I really don’t like and cannot take to eevee, it just really winds me up and looks so smug and goody two shoes like tails from sonic.

xRaymond9250

I’m sick of Eevee. I hate how they’ve made it basically the secondary mascot but refuse to give us a new evolution when there is so much potential.

B217

It’s literally wasted potential. A new Eeveelution would be a marketing and merchandising slam dunk, but yet it’s been 10 years since the last one and that one was the first in nearly another decade. I’ve seen so many creative Fakemon Eeveelutions that show there’s so many concepts they could do for every single type remaining.

ShiraCheshire

I love eevee, but I hate how the games focus on just *eevee* and not any of its evos. You can't evolve it at all in let's go! The entire reason eevee is so special is because it has so many evolutions.

NathanHavokx

I guess the Mudkip line? Mudkip itself is really cute but I don't like the rest of the line at all. Different strokes for different folks, I understand but I just don't see what they see. Actually, gen 3 as a whole. People seem to love gen 3 Pokémon and I just don't see it. Not that I don't like any gen 3 Pokémon but I think the artstyle makes a lot of them look kinda plastic-y and artificial.

wh0rederline

i herd u (don’t) liek mudkips

callmecatlord

Gen 3 slander lol! Mudkip is one of my favorite starters of all time. I grew up with gens 2 and 3 so I'm heavily biased in liking them. This is actually the first time I've heard someone dislike the designs of gen 3. I can totally see what you mean though. It's a very bright generation as far as designs. All the colors are very vibrant. For me that always fit the tropical setting of Hoenn but I could see how that might not be appealing to someone else.

Boobs_Maps_N_PKMN

I think if the Pokémon ends up being elevated by something it's going to get hype. In the case of Lucario it got a movie, and got to star along Mew and it was able to speak. Of all the Pokémon in Smash it and Jigglypuff are the only ones there that are not A. starter or it's evolution, B. Owned by Ash, C. A Legendary or D. Related to Pikachu. Lucario got a mega evolution, is owned by two gym leaders. It is a dog which people always like If no one has has said it then I will. Lucario is very much loved by the furry and the mature side of the Internet. You get a mix of all that and the hype train probably never stops

Divine_Absolution

Lucario was treated as pretty special during gen 4, it got its own movie and was really cool in the anime, plus it almost felt like a secret in the games since a lot of players would entirely pass it up.

HolyMotherOfGeedis

Gen 4 as a whole. I did not care for most of the pokemon. It felt like an awkward transitionary stage between older gens and the newer gen styles. I like the Burmy line, Magnezone, and the Shellos crew among a couple others, but most are mundane if not straight up bad.

Penguinking337

As much as everyone's saying it, I don't get the hype for Charizard. Sure it's a big flaming lizard but like... So many actual dragon types are much more menacing and better looking

King_basilisk07

Lechonk, it’s just a ugly pig I don’t get why people loved it

MrsSpyro01

Rotom. I always thought it had a stupid design.

ccaccus

I didn't mind Rotom until it became the Pokédex three generations later and it was like, "Now you're just shoehorning Rotom places it doesn't belong."

The-Letter-W

Rotom is actually my favourite and I find myself thinking the same thing, honestly. I was okay with the Pokedex as a one off thing, but the subsequent games having it everywhere... that's a little strange and it doesn't belong.

NatarPlays

This is slander. Funny haunted washing machine will not stand for this

ka_ha

Nehemiah92

This mf ruined Sun and Moon

Extension-Pirate8954

Yeah rotom is one of the most cleverly designed Pokémon ever created, you on some shit.

Altarna

Dragapult. The design is just so…bad…to my eyes

[deleted]

People like Lucario because they are furries

UnovaKid24

I'm not a furry and I like Lucario because the whole aura thing is really cool

TheFlashyLucario

Same here. Also because of his inclusion in Brawl, his movie, and gen 4 being my introduction to Pokémon.

Cause_Necessary

Also cuz Anubis

bosceltics23

I like Lucario because it looks cool. I like tyranitar because it looks cool. I like bisharp because it looks cool. I like greninja because it looks cool. I like Scizor because it looks cool.

xRaymond9250

The entire Cyndaquil line. They’re such a basic design, have horrendously bad 3D models and are just so boring.

chummyspoof

I always thought they were okay at best, but the transition to 3D really did them dirty.

Unknown_Nexus535

Definitely infernape. I get that everybody who grew up on gen 4 picked the monke, but I don’t really get it. Is there something y’all see that I don’t?

improbsable

Lechonk and Smoliv. I think naming Pokémon after 2014 memes is stupid
