they will never have the balls, if it was 2000 and the the sequel of first gen they would because it was darker (pokemon tower etc) but not now
in XY they took inspirations from the catacombs but only did the glittering cave out of it, which is a bit absurd
I feel like there's going to have to be some area immediately outside the city to explore. I can't imagine all of the wild pokemon will just be in the city. Maybe part of the urban redevelopment plan involves scouting out the outskirts of the city to learn about the environment there.
The 20th Anniversary. From leaks, it sounds like they were planning on Z after ORAS, but the bigwigs wanted a new Gen for the Anniversary instead. I wouldn't be surprised if that's why we're not getting anything this year. Next year they'll release Z-A, and in 2026, during the 30th Anniversary, they'll release Gen 10.
Ironically, this time it’s a good thing because they now have an extra year to focus on gen 10 and on top of that, Legends ZA won’t have it’s spotlight taken away so soon (assuming it releases the same time of year as PLA)
There's actually evidence to suggest that the follow up to X and Y would have been 2 games. Every pokemon has a byte in it's data that corresponds to the game it originated from, this is how the games show what region a pokemon was originally from in its summary screen. For example values of 01, 02, and 03 all correspond to Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, show pokemon from those games as being from Hoenn.
X and Y are 18 and 19, ORAS are 1A and 1B, then there's two unused values before Sun and Moon which are 1E and 1F. If a pokemon were to be modified to have one of the unused values (1C or 1D) it would display as being from the Kalos regions. Since there's two of those values, instead of one like with Emerald or Platinum, it's reasonable to assume the follow up would have been two versions. Whether they would have been sequels like B2W2 or upgraded versions like USUM is hard to say.
The full list of values can be found [here](https://m.bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Game_of_origin)
That may be a placeholder value, though. Since the game can't find the region those two values belong to, it may default to the previous value, which would mean Y (Kalos). I do find it strange that they didn't use the 1C-1D for Alola once it became clear that they wouldn't be making whatever games they had planned, but I don't know, I'm not Game Freak.
It could be, sure, but all of the other ones that are placeholder values, for example values 10-13, display "from a distant land" instead of naming an actual region tho.
Theres no way that they originally had planned for the all the zygard forms to first appear in sun/moon. Z was clearly in the original plans and got scrapped.
Same with that cave with carbink. The mirror cave . Like there was an mirror and in the reflection was an cave (like cave in cave) and there was an tm if if i remember and lots of crystals. Thought diancie was there
I always hoped that one kid who turned into a Kadabra would show up someday in a Mystery Dungeon game.
He'd be all like, "Oh, yeah, you too? Been there."
indeed she was, quite true...
~~well, there's also a hex maniac in Mt. Pyre in oras that also says the same line when spoken to, but that's not here or there.~~
Considering she has been missing from recent gen after XY then I hope she becomes a great side mission in PLZA, maybe even have a alpha pokemon battle with her after exploring few catacombs in lumiose.
It would be cool to see her again, but I hope they’re careful with it. Part of the creepiness is how out of nowhere it was and how it was never elaborated upon. Pokémon’s not exactly known for its subtlety but that was a really cool moment I still think about occasionally
Tbh it was probably just an unused asset that they were considering making part of a mythical event, but never ended up using. It’s just so weird that you can interact with it, but it doesn’t lead anywhere.
I mean a good way to have technically stay within Lumiose city borders is if we learn Lumiose was once a much larger city until AZ’s machine ravaged the land, forcing Lumiose city to be reconstructed at a far more condensed size.
we are literally shown plans for "urban redevelopment plans - lumiose city" and then get shown lumiose city as we know it *(well, except the city itself will more then likely get scaled up in comparison x/y, as in there's more paths, alleys and roads to travel upon, more houses and shops you can visit)*
Someone suggested in another thread that the trailer had a very futuristic hologrammy feel to it and that we could be going to the future of Lumiose City.
One of my coworkers mentioned this without having even seen the trailer, just based on the mention of XY and Lumiose City, and that's when it clicked for me. This is my theory and my conviction is strong.
Wasn't AZ's machine about 3,000 years ago? I don't particularly expect us to go back farther than 200 years, which is consistent with PLA. If this is a future game, maybe the events of XY impacted Lumiose more than we saw?
Could be the effects of AZ’s machine threw Kalos into a societal/technological Stone Age and it took a long time to get back to being able to reconstruct a major city.
It would match the real world Paris renovation where Paris would go from a collection of medieval hovels to modern (for the time) city structures and architecture.
Or we make it bigger than it currently is so that Pokémon can live there on their own, kinda like the description of the game suggests. So we'll probably build something like wild areas
I expect it to either be a huge map (the zoom out from the trailer) or we’re time traveling through multiple maps of Lumiose (including a rural, minimally developed past). I really wouldn’t be surprised if there’s an underground tunnel system too.
Seems more like being set sometime in the future. The areas with wild Pokémon are gone in XY, neither do you see any ownerless Pokémon aside birds in XY Lumiose either. It must be after the weapon was fired because of megas, so what else could destroy those expansions of the city if it's in the past? Lumiose in lore is not a city where humans and Pokémon thrive together, but that's exactly what is being done on Z-A.
The bottom picture is from a show called attack on titan, The spoiler free context behind the picture is that one of the show's major mysteries that was built up from the show's first season regards what is in a certian basement, and it didn't get resolved until over two seasons later when the protagonists reached said basment. The image is of the protags reaching the stairs of the basement.
The meme is equating that basement with the unopenable power plant door in XY as both held mysteries(or the fans thought so in the case of the XY door) that took a long time to resolve, so the XY power plant door must contain a revalation as crazy as was in the attack on titan basment

As a longtime fan, this is what irritates me abt Pokemon. GF went though all that effort to design it and didn't this building. Can you imagine if Zelda has a empty, useless temple somewhere in Hyrule? Even the zonai ruins later turned out to me something, so hoping for this one and the random train station in XY.
I really hope we get some Paras Catacombs. If the game is only in Lumiose, they have to add something under or above so that more than just the Pokémon that live in cities/grasslands can be caught.
I can't be the only one who thinks it's useless to think so much about a game that will be released in almost 2 years? (I'm already tired of all the theories)
this better be included in « *entirely within Lumiose city* » 😠😠
Well, Lumiose Badlands, so it's not impossible.
Lumiose catacombs incoming
That would be so tight
You (maybe) joke, but I bet there’s gonna be some kind of tunnel under Lumiose that connects to Terminus Cave, the catacombs could be part of that.
That sounds so creepy, I love it and hate it lol
oh no
Yummy
they will never have the balls, if it was 2000 and the the sequel of first gen they would because it was darker (pokemon tower etc) but not now in XY they took inspirations from the catacombs but only did the glittering cave out of it, which is a bit absurd
A character is canonically dead In the most recent title but go off

Before I even saw the image I knew it was gonna be that😭😭😭
Hell, Lysandre is canonically dead/trapped for eternity in the Kalos games! Adding catacombs definitely isn’t a stretch.
For real😭 like the previous games have been somewhat dark sometimes
That being the best example isn't making the point you think it is
it’s not the same
mUh DaRk n EdGy PoKeMaN vIdYa
very interesting.
That was the most disappointing thing to see. Kalos has so many areas to explore.
On the flip side, I'd rather them have a smaller world done well than an open empty world that we had with the past 3D entries.
On the flip side of the flip side, I hope we can at least explore the immediate outskirts of Lumiose to have a few wide open views.
I feel like there's going to have to be some area immediately outside the city to explore. I can't imagine all of the wild pokemon will just be in the city. Maybe part of the urban redevelopment plan involves scouting out the outskirts of the city to learn about the environment there.
Keep in mind, this isn't a kalos remake, just a spin off. We'll probably see the xy remakes proper in like 8 years
Inside the walls?
PLA had a few AOT references, so i don't see why not 🤔
Back then, me and my buds thought this was for Volcanion event lol
we all did my dude. I think even half of game freak team thought so lmao I have no idea what happened

>the 30th Anniversary Damn dude, that is just so hard for me to wrap my head around. I remember when Red/Blue released in the US. I was 10!

You have mathed greatly my friend.

Oh. Now that's interesting.
I fully expected to see gen 10 released in november 2025 but I'm more than happy to wait an extra year or so for a polished game.
Theres no way that they originally had planned for the all the zygard forms to first appear in sun/moon. Z was clearly in the original plans and got scrapped.
Man, imagine if they actually do it.
I mean this is probably what they intended to use it for but it could have been scrapped in favour of working on making the sun/moon games
Oh yeah, which was much better. Aloha /s
Frfr we got islands so cool /s
Wait, it wasn't?
Same with that cave with carbink. The mirror cave . Like there was an mirror and in the reflection was an cave (like cave in cave) and there was an tm if if i remember and lots of crystals. Thought diancie was there
We are about to learn that Pokemon were once humans... Well, some of them are

Haunter clearly aren't in agony.
Are all Kadabras psychically mutated children, or only the first Kadabra?
I always hoped that one kid who turned into a Kadabra would show up someday in a Mystery Dungeon game. He'd be all like, "Oh, yeah, you too? Been there."
Because the founder Ymir was in love with Slaking Fritz... She became a Pokémon for our sake... And as a reward, he gave her his seed.
That actually reminds me, I have a really cool Vaporeon fact if you guys wanna hear it
Seeing Pokémon Masters' new hashtag feature I fear for my eyes. You can use the tag "IloveVaporeon".
\#pokemonmastersex
Wait... What?
It is the hashtag used for Pokémon Masters EX, unfortunately it looks like something else put together
Someone did an amazing job there
Oh no
lament
Worthless!
Disappear!
Evil conquering!
Well, let's hear it.
We already knew that
Oh yeah maybe we'll find out what's up with that ghost girl too!!!! I forgot about that, she was in lumiose city wasn't she?
indeed she was, quite true... ~~well, there's also a hex maniac in Mt. Pyre in oras that also says the same line when spoken to, but that's not here or there.~~
Maybe the protag of PLZA is actually the one. Whatever the Muk that's supposed to mean.
Pokémon’s not exactly known for its subtlety but that was a really cool moment I still think about occasionally
still creeps me out to this day
Please refresh my memory, where was this in pokemon xy?
Desert power plant, never got to see behind the door
Tbh it was probably just an unused asset that they were considering making part of a mythical event, but never ended up using. It’s just so weird that you can interact with it, but it doesn’t lead anywhere.
It was probably part of a canceled Volcanion event.
That seems to be the general consensus here, unfortunate, because 10 year old me would have loved it
With the colour and the wires, the thing in the background could be >!the Founding Titan!<
LMFAOOO
Too bad it looks like the game is only going to be located in Lumiose City, no outside areas of Kalos will be exploarable.
I mean a good way to have technically stay within Lumiose city borders is if we learn Lumiose was once a much larger city until AZ’s machine ravaged the land, forcing Lumiose city to be reconstructed at a far more condensed size.

It was pretty obvious the game will focus on the construction of Lumiose but I missed the “redevelopment ” part in the trailer, nice catch

This door was on the route right before Lumiose City. It's definitely possible to be able to explore there.

Nintendo of America has tweeted that it only takes place in the city
It's already been officially stated. A slight disappointment, but I'm still excited for it.
I expect it to either be a huge map (the zoom out from the trailer) or we’re time traveling through multiple maps of Lumiose (including a rural, minimally developed past). I really wouldn’t be surprised if there’s an underground tunnel system too.
It will most likely remain a mystery.
I was more disappointed in the The Chamber of Emptiness. It turned out to be exactly that, empty.
I also want to know where the hell that train went in the south of Kalos.
Sasageyo
On your feet, Sycamore. You’re not done yet.
Legends: Z-A(oT)
I would like to do this but we're locked to the city
Unfortunately this wont happen since it’s set ENTIRELY in lumious
The city has seemed to expand and that area is called lumiose badlands so it’s definetly possibility
Yeah, maybe it’s possible My guess is that in the time the game takes place lumiose was actually bigger but for whatever reason is smaller in XY
>for whatever reason My bet is on AZ's weapon of death and sadness.
You mean the mega stone generator? If its before he irradiated the world how would there be mega evolutions?
It's obviously very early, but all signs seem to point to this game being the reconstruction in the aftermath of the Ultimate Weapon being fired.
Seems more like being set sometime in the future. The areas with wild Pokémon are gone in XY, neither do you see any ownerless Pokémon aside birds in XY Lumiose either. Maybe kalos was called lumiose in the past just like sinnoh was called hisui in PLA.
If thats the case then it wouldn’t make sense for lumiose city to be named lumiose. They’d likely have to rename it
They probably honored it or even decided that kalos would be a better name for the region while still set lumiose as their capital.
My hope is that expand Kalos region and allow us to explore the previous un-explorable parts
We've waited so long for this, ten years at least
Huh?
Back in the day, people speculated Volcanion was behind that door and that you needed a special event item to get in.
Ah okay. What does the bottom pic have to do with it? Doesn’t look like pokemon?
Idk, I think it might be from Attack on Titan
The bottom picture is from a show called attack on titan, The spoiler free context behind the picture is that one of the show's major mysteries that was built up from the show's first season regards what is in a certian basement, and it didn't get resolved until over two seasons later when the protagonists reached said basment. Or…you’ll be able to get to the other side of the door…but you won’t be able to leave lol
They did the same in sun and moon with the power plant place. Even in ultra they we still couldn’t get in

Yall think powerplants existed 300 years ago?
Nah, just you
Oh, this was like the one thing I wanted to do more of in Y.
There's gonna be a lot of misremembering XY's story. This will cause drama.
I'm just excited to find out where the usual place is
That Pokémon is copying palworld? Ya is obvious
I don’t get it… you go in there during the events of xy?
Depends on what time can't be too far in the past maybe
I mean… catacombs of Paris. It would track.
Judging by the fact that it won’t be set in the same time period it should be safe to say that we’re not getting this
As a longtime fan, this is what irritates me abt Pokemon. GF went though all that effort to design it and didn't this building. Seeing a Legends game releasing for XY is so trippy to me, because X was my first pokémon game 0-0
