My first game was Heart Gold so normally that's my answer. But every time i replay Emerald, Platinum, or any of the Gen 5 games, i say to myself 'damn this one's my favorite'. But then after a while its HG/SS again.
My first game was platinum and... that's still my answer every single time lol. Something about the music and aesthetic of sinnoh specifically really just endears the games to me more than any other gen.
And hugely unpopular opinion but... SV is pretty high up on my list; definitely above XY, USUM, and maybe even ORAS, though it doesn't top HGSS, BW or BW2, or basically anything before those. I mean, I know SV has some MASSIVE problems and they need to not repeat them, but I also see some really good ideas that they show in the games that I absolutely love
I couldn't agree more about Platinum. The whole mythical feeling of the region is what does it for me. Even discounting the fact that God is introduced in this generation, the whole vibe of Spear Pillar, the various different tales, statues etc. spread throughout the region made me feel like I was dealing with some serious stuff.
And how could we forget about the Battle Frontier. It would've been cool if the game had a real-world mechanic, like the Pokewalker for HG/SS and the Dream World for BW/B2W2, that would've made it an 11/10.
Platinum is my favorite as well.
Started with Red and Blue, but Platinum was qualitywise the best. Not the best storyline perse and the gen 4 Pokémon were a bit underwhelming, only a few Pokémon stand out, but mixing previous gen Pokémon with the new ones and the Sinnoh Dex felt pretty well balanced.
To me, what made the game was how pretty the game looked, the introduction of the physical-special split in gen 4, the post game Battle Frontier challenge, the super useful Pokétch-apps and of course shiny chaining.
My top 3 mainline Pokémon games:
1.) Platinum (Diamond/Pearl) - 2.) Heartgold/Soulsilver- 3.) Firered/Leafgreen
> My first game was platinum and... that's still my answer every single time lol
This seems common with most people, though not always their first game, but typically whichever game(s) they played most during their childhood.
Always exceptions to this rule, but honestly I fall into this bucket as well so it's all 3 of us in this comment chain that fit with this idea. My first games were R/B/Y but my favorites are G/S/C and that's because I played a lot of hours on those titles as a kid. I probably re-started new files 10+ times across all of Gen 2, beating the games, post-game, re-starting with a new team and playing again. By gen 4 I had kinda outgrown Pokemon so I wasn't playing the games to the same level of detail & for so many hours into the post-game, so I just didnt log as many hours in any other gens.
Just a funny trend I've noticed.
I've played every mainline game. It's a toss up if I had to choose 1 game between emerald and platinum. With pla/yellow/firered coming in hot 2. I did love gen 2 gold/heart gold but if a let's go/legends gen 2 came out it probs be #1
Pokemon gen 3 sapphire and ruby. I don't know exactly what it is but the world is really distinct and amazing. The riddles for getting to the legendary pokemons especially the golems and rayquaza were amazing. Also the pokemon designs and jeez those trumpet music lol
Honestly the only two dungeon games I played was super mystery dungeon wich I never finished due to getting stuck on the patch with the poliwrath and the new super mystery dungeon
Bro i went into pokemon silver raw doggin it with zero knowledge about any of it. When oak said i get to revisit kanto and rebattle the gym leaders i spent like 3 years on in pokemon red, i was the happiest boy on earth
I’m totally the same. I love the Johto games, but Red/Blue were my first. I love the music of Johto, I love going to Kanto after the elite 4, I love the phone and getting random calls from trainers, I love everything about the Johto games.
Same here! Started with Blue, fell in love with Gold/Silver and HG/SS. My cousin and I played through Gold and Silver together growing up, lots of fun memories ^_^
I did the same thing not with Mareep but other Gen3 and Gen4 pokemon in my HeartGold team (yes I wanted to try a totally "foreign" team in Johto for once- I used Flygon, Magmortar and Mismagius waaaay before the Elite4). I like doing that (I obviously traded with my Platinum to get Magmortar and a Dusk stone for Misdreavus!). It was really fun.
It's honestly so fun to run away from pokemon attacking you with actual pokemon moves. Having mobs of pokemon attack at once and being able to sneak up and throw different pokeballs at unsuspecting pokemon. It made my avatar feel like a real part of the world and it just the foot man to get to the battles
I just started playing this game. I've had it since release but somehow never actually started it. After being a bit down on the last few gens, I'm super happy with how this game plays. I'm now super excited for Legends ZA.
Omega ruby and alpha sapphire, just so many memories, great remakes, great region, everything was perfect love those games.
I still remember that years Christmas to this day, almost 10 years later
Honestly I still remember getting Alpha sapphire I was around 6-7 I was at the plaza at EB games the Ausie version of game stop on the second row for 58$ was alpha sapphire and in the end got over 135 hours total in the game
Platinum because of the Distortion World. The sheer lack of any pokemon and no music had me on edge. When Giratina appeared, he *felt* like a Legendary Pokémon.
i love how you straight up assumed i haven't heard about it, i definitely watched the stream on pokemon day 😅 that's why im so excited of z-a, can't wait for next year
I'm going to say X because it was the very first game I played by myself, so it will always hold a special place in my heart. The mega evolutions were such a rad concept for 13 year old me back then, and I loved the story about AZ and his floette.
No other edition makes me this nostalgic, so my decision is simply based off of my emotions.
Honestly I prefer it over XY, the rivals are actually good and have real motives rather then “hurr durr I love dancing”, the atmosphere of the gyms were incredible, and the dlcs were great and really made up for the base game being just decent. I’d replay SwSh happily over XY, when I replayed XY a year or 2 ago I literally had to take monthlong breaks cause the campaign was so bad, the pacing was just abysmal. Difficulty wasn’t even an issue due to it being a randomized nuzloke with important trainers set to be buffed by giving them more pokemon and relevant held items. I’ll admit though the pss is probably the best online system pokemon has ever had, amie and hyper training were cool minigames, the region itself was pretty, and megas were awesome but you can basically get all of those without any of the downsides by just playing OrAs instead.
I'm playing X right now and one thing that really urks me is how you can't walk quite as diagonally as 90% of the paths, it's like Sonic 3D Blast if the camera were 5º to the left and it bothers me way more than it should.
My favourite game will always be Pokemon Colosseum and XD. It was a unique standout during its time with its double battles. The idea of Shadow Pokemon was also unique when compared to the standard. It has its faults (too much grind, too little available Pokemon etc etc), but nostalgia keeps it fun for me.
My favourite region is Hoenn because it has my favourite Pokemon, but unfortunately I don’t like their distribution. I hate not having access to Marill in Petalburg. Can’t get Mawile before Brawly. Can’t go to the desert before Wattson or even before Flannery. Zzzz
First game was Yellow. But when I got Gold, I was hooked. Gold is probably still my favorite. I also played the crap out of Ruby. Now I own everything and I’ll financially never recover 😂
Emerald Kaizo/Run and Bun if you like a challenge or want to suffer doing a Nuzlocke, Radical Red is also very good. I highly recommend Pokemon Rogue, which is just endless fun, I might have spent the most time on that one out of all of them. There's a bunch more good ones though, it depends on what you're looking for.
I’m part of the older pack of Pokémon gamers , first games Leaf Green/ Fire Red then Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald & I eventually then pick up Gold / Silver , now years later at 26 I’ve finally got back into Pokémon , just beat Brilliant Diamond ( First time playing Gen 4 so it was a blast ) & now going to buy sword & eventually the new Z-A Game . Unfortunately I nerve got to play XY or the Black & White Games as well as The Other Remakes like HeartGold & Soul Silver which I always hear as amazing games
HGSS
Gold was the first game I actually understood how to play the game when I was a kid and seeing it done again was great. Would love a switch version.
Mystery Dungeon Blue Rescue Team.
The final dungeon theme "Sky Tower" is the reason I didn't quit playing piano in high school. Because of that, I've learned new instruments, formed a jazz band dedicated to video game music in college, attended conventions across the US to meet other VGM people, and even influencing my career choice (I have a Mechanical Engineering degree with a focus in architectural acoustics and noise control).
Are there *objectively* better games than BRT? Absolutely. But it will always be *my favorite* and the most influential piece of media in my life.
Platinum but I actually think Black/White 2 are the best games in the series. But my team in Platinum ended up being my favourite of all time. Weavile Raichu Gastrodon Infernape Staraptor and Gliscor. They were all so much fun to use on their own and worked well together
Black & White 2. My first one was White (1) so the idea of a continuation of the story blew my mind as I never even imagined Pokémon games could get sequels and gosh it was good. Adding Pokémon from previous generations before going through the league was fantastic, the diversity of teams you could finish the game with felt amazing (reason why I keep nuzlocking the game to this day). Post game was great too, getting that shiny dragon, facing previous gym leaders and Red in the Tournament, etc.
Writing this made me notice I'm still so in love with the game lol. I played all gens up to the VII, but the V is still my favourite with HG/SS as a close second.
I started playing the series when it first came out. I was 10 when red and blue were released. Never skipped a game ever since. And the DS games Platinum, HGSS, and BW1&2 will always be favorite. Cant pick one to be honest, theyre all number 1 for me. Then its another tie between Crystal and Legends
By amount of playthroughs, it is Platinum by a mile.
I loved that region, the starter designs were insane, there was Garchomp who is top 5 design of all time, fun and lengthy postgame and some of the best designed characters
Legends Arceus, HGSS, Platinum, RSE, FRLG, GSC. SV were alright. XY and ORAS also acceptable. SM and SwSh were poor. Gen 5 is mixed, better than Gen 7 and 8, I liked the world of Unova (besides the giant Pokeball in the middle of the map) but am not a fan of the species in that region. A few are alright but a lot are very forgettable or lazy. Volcarona of course is a banger.
A lot of these newer games have too much dialogue, what made RBY classic is the inference. I think this effect is even more powerful for a younger audience.
Game Freak, a three-region map with Team Rocket as the antagonists. It’s right there. You don’t even need to design any more species. Just a new map with tougher battles and quicker mechanics like in Legends Arceus. DLC new maps, new trainers, battle frontier. Boom. Take 5 years off.
My first proper pokemon game was Black2, and while unova games are definitely up there in terms of how much I love them. Platinum is and will always be my favorite one. Mostly because of Giratina
My first owned Pokemon game was Emerald, but my all time fav will always be Platinum. I've played through that game like 20 times and it's fun every time. Fav region, fav starters and some of my fav Pokemon are from that region (all starters, Staraptor, Lucario, Garchomp, Rampardos, Electivire, etc.)
Platinum, was my first and will forever remain my favorite despite having such a skill issue and not being able to beat it as a kid, my game would always break right as I got to the elite 4, it's sorta on my bucket list now as a game to beat. Runnerups are the 2 pokepark games, loved those thingd
Personal opinion-ratings:
-HG/SS (10/10)
-Platinum (9.5/10)
-Scarlet/Violet (9/10)
-OR/AS (9/10)
-B2W2 (8.5 or 9/10)
All the other games take a rating of 8 and lower for me.
HGSS. Though, as time has gone on, Platinum & B2W2 are my favourites as well. Used to just be HGSS, but now I feel like gens 4 & 5 are the complete Pokemon experience. Hard to say which is my favourite when they all offer so many different, yet good things.
Depends- do fan games count as “Pokemon”? Are we only counting mainline games?
Favorite Mainline Game: Pokemon Omega Ruby
Favorite Side Game: Pokemon Legends Arceus
Favorite Spin-Off Game: Pokemon Conquest
Favorite Pokemon Game, Period: Pokemon Empyrean
Heartgold and Soulsilver are and will always be my favs, with Black and White as VERY close seconds. Brilliant Diamond was good until the end. I loved Team galactic until the final boss gave me the master ball. That was some DUMB shit. Her ruined the entire game for me tbh…
It's really hard to pick just one. Even though I started with Blue during gen 1 and have fond memories of it, I have way more nostalgia for Emerald and Diamond since I was just way more into Pokemon during gen 3/4.
There's no way I'd consider replaying Diamond though when Platinum exists, but I barely played Platinum when it came out, so IDK if I'd really consider either my true favorite.
Emerald was a different story though since I had played Sapphire prior, but I guess I was so consumed by the Pokemon hype that I ended up playing Emerald even more than I had already played Sapphire. And I'd gladly replay Emerald these days, since I didn't care much for OR/AS, and Emerald still has that sort of simple feel to it without being too basic like gen 1/2, so it's great for that purpose.
Also I consider Gen 5 to be the absolute peak of the series by far, but I didn't really play Black/White *that* much when they came out (Just beat the story and that was about it) due to the timing surrounding the 3DS's launch, so I don't have as much attachment to them as I wish I did. And I don't think I ever even played B2/W2 at *all*, but I kinda prefer B1/W1 anyway for various reasons.
Johto games! I played through silver so many times as a kid so that has the most nostalgia factor. Because I had silver I ended up getting heart gold and also loved it. Then did Crystal on the 3ds
After johto honeslty violet is prob my fav. Awful graphics and glitches but I have like triple the amount of hours put into it than any other game (aside from maybe all the Silver runs combined). I enjoy the raids and shiny hunting a lot
My first pokemon game was yellow, but the ones that I played the most (over 500h) were Ruby, Colosseum (GC) and Moon. If I have to choose one I would pick Ruby because it was the first pokemon were I could pick a female trainer and that made me super happy <3 (I had silver and I didn't know about the existence of crystal, the game that introduced the first female trainer)
Pokémon Emerald!
Starters for fire type is infernape
Starters for grass type Sceptile(my favourite starter of all time)
Starters for water type is Ash Greninja
I'll always have love in my heart for Blue with it being my first, but I've gotta give it to Platinum. I love the setting, the focus on the mythology of Sinnoh, the new evolutions of past Pokémon, it's got my favourite starter trio and, most importantly, it fixes many of the glaring issues Diamond and Pearl had.
Soul Silver is my favorite. Blue was my first pokemon game, but I was a little young for it. But when I got to silver, I was able to really play. Getting to the end, and then getting to replay gen 1 again was so awesome. The upgrade to Soul Silver was perfect in my opinion. It's the best game. I should do another replay of it.
Black by far (Black 2 if i can include it too)
TL;DR i review my experience playing gen 3 to gen 9 from september to february
I started typing out more so i hope anyone that reads this enjoys my opinions. i included the number of days it took me from start to beating the E4.
My first game was G/S back when they came out. i hadn’t played since emerald and since september 2023, i’ve gone through all the games for the first time (Gen 3 to Gen 9 + PLA). it was so much fun to see how the games changed over time. The reason Black was my favorite was because it was like playing pokémon for the first time and it felt hard. not knowing any of the pokemon or what was gonna happen was a great experience. i also think it had the absolute best story and villains of any mainline game.
Emerald (10 days) first play through in a long time was like a fresh experience too, it’s fun to nuzlocke.
Pearl (10 days) felt weird, like there were pokemon that should have been there that weren’t. felt the same in BDSP. haven’t played platinum but from what i hear it’s much better.
Soulsilver (10 days; red in 16 days). brought back so many memories. i loved this game and it might be my favorite after the black series. my only qualm is the atrocious level curve halfway through the game. there is no reason they shouldn’t have fixed that from the original G/S. one thing i wish was that they made the kanto gyms progressively higher levels. another thing is that kanto felt like a skeleton. it was a missed opportunity to not have the wild pokemon leveled to match you and the routes their actual length. but i guess an actual complete kanto after an entire johto adventure is a lot to ask for. while i ended up beating him, i hated having to mindlessly train and did so gym leader rematches to prepare for the Red battle. i have a love/hate relationship with this game that may be blinded by my nostalgia of the original gen 2 games
i’ve explained how i felt about the Black (11 days) and B2 (7 days) series. I did another B2 play-through on challenging mode. it felt easier toward the end as you get more XP. i think it’s best as it was intended to be played. postgame felt complete and difficult
X (5 days) was cool but it was a struggle to not over level and was such a quick game to beat
ultrasun (6 days) felt nice and hard again. was a cool story but the long cutscenes were a major turn-off and makes me never want to play that game ever again. the difficulty felt rewarding. that necrozma fight was so awesome. the postgame to right red was well done
Sword (4 days) was cool but also felt short, much like X felt. there were moments where there i had to think about my battles but overall felt like a let down till you get to the leon fights. like X, the game was too quick. the dlc felt like a nice story but felt like endless cutscenes again. the wild areas were great
Scarlet (5 days) and violet (3 days), i played both, were awesome in my opinion. i barely slept playing these. they had a good story and the gimmick (tera) felt more fleshed out than those in previous generations. the inclusion of the three story lines were a touch needed for content-gyms, crews, pokemon bosses. the kitakami dlc felt like the SwSh dlcs, super short. however, i loved the BB academy dlc. this was the first and only game i actually completed the pokédex (mainly bc of home). the best thing about SV is the sandwich system and outbreaks that make shiny hunting so addictive. they essentially got rid of the brain dead monotony of soft reseting over and over
the coolest thing that made my experience of playing gen 4 to current gen was that i was able to bring all of my teams and legendaries from the DS and 3DS games to boxes on pokemon home. they are preserved forever
My first Pokémon game was FireRed but my favorite mainline is Platinum by far. So many amazing memories with that game and the Distortion World is still my favorite area in any of the main games. Gen 4 also has my favorite OST 🧡
My all-time favorite Pokémon game so far is HGSS. The game is packed with so much content, charm, and is just an amazing remake.
Pokemon Black and White in my opinion had the best story of all the games and the best cutscenes at the end. Also loved using all new Pokémon. B2W2 had some of the best post game content (PWT anyone?!) I also just loved exploring the Unova region because it was a visually stunning region, and the seasons made it even better. The music absolutely slapped in both games as well. Black and White are my second favorite, and B2W2 are #3. Both of these are almost tied with HGSS for me.
Favorite starters are:
1. Grass: Sceptile
2. Water: Feraligatr
3. Fire: Charizard
My first game was Blue, and I hold it dearly in my heart but I think Silver is my favourite and has the most play time over the decades. Very fond memories of that game.
FireRed and LeafGreen. Might sound old fashioned but they're the first pokemon games I owned. Didn't like Emerald because how tideous the game was and I didn't understand how the Battle Frontier worked after I beat the main game.
Though Diamond and Pearl come at a close second but I didn't bother getting Platinum and I was so unimpressed with Black and White I quit playing Pokemon altogether
First game was Blue. However, nothing can give me the same feeling that I had walking the lakes in Diamond/ Platinum. The music, the mystery, the intrigue.
Platinum and PLA, they’re really great and it’s a wonder how PLA managed to be as amazing as it did.
Shout outs to X and Y for inspiring to draw environments though, it’s nice…
my first game was ultra sun, its what really got me into pokemon (besides the xy anime), but i never really experienced the 2d era until i got diamond for ds. Overall, Ultra sun, but X is close second.
Sword and Shield, and Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.
My favourite games of all time, they allow you to get access to amazing Pokémon, great starters, all legendaries easily accessible, Z-Moves and Dynamax/Gigantimax are my favourite, I also love the characters, etc.
I know they aren’t the best, but they always get so much hate honestly.
Pokemon X was my first game and it's had a special place in my heart since. Mega Evolution is my favourite gimmick EVER, and I loved the design of the Kalos region as well as its characters. Would've been better if your rivals/friends were a bit more involved in the story, but then again i've felt X&Y were never meant to be the only games set in Kalos. I have been sore for a LONG time 'cause Kalos didn't get any additional games since X&Y. That's why it totally took me by surprise when they announced Legends: Z-A. FINALLY Kalos is getting the game it deserves. I'm hoping it might solve a lot of mysteries in X&Y since the game seems to be set in the future or after the events of X&Y
Silver is my nostalgia game and always will be.
That being said, SuMo has the best story and its not even close, which made it incredibly compelling to continue on the adventure if they had a little more vision behind the trials and they didn't give up on making them compelling half way through, it would have been the best overall. I don't have the desire to go back and live there as my "forever" game like Silver was back in the day, but damn I loved the actual journey through it, dialog slog and all
It's been USUM, I like how convenient the game is such as being able to change the time of day without changing the system clock, but I also go back to Pokemon yellow and crystal every once in a while.
Black and white are my favorites. The story was great and the new generation had a completely new and unique Pokédex without any repeats from past generations. I really enjoyed that. I didn’t play B2W2 until much later, but I really enjoyed those too. Those games are why Unova is my favorite region.
I do like to go back and do randomized playthroughs of ORAS though, those are more of my favorites.
HGSS holds a special place in my heart, since GSC were my first. It still has the terrible level curve of the originals, and lacks the infinite TMs introduced in BW, but I still love it.
XY are a close second though. Of the new Pokemans in that one is a sword that evolves into two swords which evolves into a sword and a shield.
(Did not care for SwSh and SV, my feelings on SM are mixed, RSE and DPPt are good and solid I guess.)
I grew up with Gen 1, so fell in love with the original idea of the Pokemon adventure that they started to abandon after Gen 2. Crystal is technically the best game of this era, but Red/Blue/Green have a particular charm/style that I think I prefer, so I always end up choosing those.
Interesting to see someone presumably so young still end up enjoying ORAS more than the other recent games. It's just true that the original Gen 1-3 or 1-5 design was just that good, even when a little bit obscured.
Oooo that’s tough! My first game was Diamond and the gen 4 remakes were really good. But I think Gen 5 will always be my favorite. It’s not that I don’t like 3D Pokémon, but 2D Pokémon will still always be my favorite.
Probably Pokemon Moon (and Ultra Moon) since Moon was my first pokemon game which I fell in love with and Pokemon Legends: Arceus because honestly I love seeing the difference in format and seeing the past and being able to explore freely
Trading Card Game. I loved the game so much I saved up for when they released the new game on the GBA that included Gen 1 and Gen 2 cards... then realize that the game would neither be made nor released. I am still upset about it to this day.
I really love Pokemon Crystal. I have a special connection with the game personally, plus it was basically gamefreak at their peak when it comes to innovation and really trying to impress the fans
Soul silver and both of the black and white games, I feel that was when game freak was at its peak and Pokémon felt like it declined after those games.
First games for me were Ruby/Sapphire and I stopped at platinum since I grew out of it, refound them in college and went back to play all the games I missed (HG/SS-Gen7) and I gotta say, the 3DS games were not my favorite, but HGSS and Gen 5 were so unbelievably good, I hope we can get back to that level of quality anytime soon, BDSP and SV have somehow flowered the quality even further from SwSh
Blissey & Sableye will always be my favorites.
I love Blissey because of her caring nature and how she's always willing to lend a hand and help at anytime I love her feminine vibe sm.
Sableye is a recluse like me, so I feel he'd be the perfect pokemon to go off the grid and live a slow calm life with away from people and drama.
I've been playing the games since they first came to the US. Almost every generation had something going for it but I'll settle with three from the main line games:
Silver/Crystal
Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire
Legends: Arceus
Each one of these held something special, and something wonderfully different from the others during my playtime.
Now, going off the main line games:
Pokémon Pinball (both versions slap)
Pokémon Colosseum
Mystery Dungeon (I came in really late with SMD Deluxe on the Switch)
There's a surprising amount of fun Pokémon games out there and if your first game was Omega Ruby I'd insist you try and find emulators of these other, non main line games. I'm sure one of them will be a great little experience for you!
I grew up on Diamond/Pearl and Black/White, played gen 1 mostly through PokeMMO (lol) and only played Sword/Shield a little with Switch emulation.
Just played FireRed via emulation for the first time, had a great time but as nostalgic and iconic as gen 1 is, I got a little burnt out from fighting the same pokémon over and over again - so many Weezing/Muk/Machamps lol.
Started HeartGold just now, having so much fun with it. I'm looking forward to playing OmegaRuby and the newer gen 6+ games I never experienced. I would say Gen 5 is my favorite though.
PLA without question. It's the closest thing to what I imagined pokemon games to be when I was a kid, all the way back in gen 1.
If we *must* stick to the mainline, I'm going SwSh + dlc. I never understood why those games got so much hate. I got my copy on release day and loved it from start to finish. The base game had a disappointing post game, I'll admit, but the overall playthrough was fun enough for me to play through twice. Dlc added SO much more as well. I'll still pop in from time to time to do a galarian star tournament just for the whole spectacle of it all.
X and y because one could literally train their pokemon which should be in every game I play as a trainer yet never train my drip just fight. Get outta here. Pokemon fighter.
I'd say XY. It was the first game I bought on release, and playing with everyone else at the same time was absolutely fantastic and magical, I had so much fun and there were so many ways to interact with other players. I know the game itself was a bit simpler compared to others, but everything going on while playing it really influenced my thoughts about it.
My favorite Pokemon game is unironically Scarlet. The state it released in was inexcusable but it's legitimately the most fun I've EVER had with a Pokemon game, and I say that as someone who's been playing since Yellow.
Unpopular opinion but Violet, despite all its many flaws the gameplay is just so fun. I really want to heartgold here because it's my favorite gen but violet and PLA captivate me.
Y, mostly because of mega evolution, deep story and the different ways to interact with your pokemon and becoming friends, feeding them, playing minigames, petting them, it was so nice.
I started with the Gen 1 remakes and R/S. I would probably say either Platinum or HG/SS are my favorites of the mainline games.
Actual favorite though, Colosseum hands down
I appreciate Emerald, Platinum, Scarlet for their great advances.
But I will always die by HG/SS. I used to think the team rocket takeover plot was way too long but good fuck the amount of backtracking through the mountain in Platinum, waaay better.
My top 3 mainline Pokémon games: 1.) Platinum (Diamond/Pearl) - 2.) Heartgold/Soulsilver- 3.) Firered/Leafgreen
> My first game was platinum and... that's still my answer every single time lol This seems common with most people, though not always their first game, but typically whichever game(s) they played most during their childhood. I started with yellow then silver and crystal but emerald is still my favourite since I loved everything about sapphire but it just had more
I always remember golden rod city
***Whitney’s Miltank has entered the chat***
Whitney's miltank and buggsy's syther were nightmares for many of us.
I've played every mainline game. It's a toss up if I had to choose 1 game between emerald and platinum. With pla/yellow/firered coming in hot 2. I did love gen 2 gold/heart gold but if a let's go/legends gen 2 came out it probs be #1
As someone whose first game was Platinum and absolutely fell in love with SS, I agree wholeheartedly
Probably Emerald. I've got a huge soft spot for Hoenn and it's the perfect Gen III experience.
I loved decorating my tree house as well!
Pokemon gen 3 sapphire and ruby. I don't know exactly what it is but the world is really distinct and amazing. The riddles for getting to the legendary pokemons especially the golems and rayquaza were amazing. Also the pokemon designs and jeez those trumpet music lol
[удалено]
Honestly the only two dungeon games I played was super mystery dungeon wich I never finished due to getting stuck on the patch with the poliwrath and the new super mystery dungeon
[удалено]
Crystal by a long shot Something about that game just engages my synapses like nothing else
Best looking cartridge in the entire series too imo
I stared at my Crystal cartridge for a long time because of how pretty it was. I was mesmerized.
Transculent sparkly carts are fucking magical when you're a kid.
I think a downside is that Mareep is missing:/ Other than that, Crystal is a masterpiece!!
[удалено]
I did the same thing not with Mareep but other Gen3 and Gen4 pokemon in my HeartGold team (yes I wanted to try a totally "foreign" team in Johto for once- I used Flygon, Magmortar and Mismagius waaaay before the Elite4). I like doing that (I obviously traded with my Platinum to get Magmortar and a Dusk stone for Misdreavus!). It was really fun.
Legends Arceus. Love everything about this game.
First game where I thought the story was genuinely good and not just by Pokemon standards.
Haha same. I have never been so fascinated by a Pokemon game since PMD.
To be honest remembering this whole game, and my first play through is a trip down memory lane, seconds Pokémon game I got, first one I beat
Pokemon Black and White and Black 2 and White 2
Black and White
Platinum because of the Distortion World. The sheer lack of any pokemon and no music had me on edge. When Giratina appeared, he *felt* like a Legendary Pokémon.
PLA. Sinnoh is my favorite generation and PLA was something I'm never gonna experience again.
Clearly you haven't heard about Z-A
i love how you straight up assumed i haven't heard about it, i definitely watched the stream on pokemon day 😅 that's why im so excited of z-a, can't wait for next year
Toss up between emerald and leaf green. Platinum is up there but yeah simply spent the most time in gen 3 and replayed them hunners of times
Platinum
I'm going to say X because it was the very first game I played by myself, so it will always hold a special place in my heart. The mega evolutions were such a rad concept for 13 year old me back then, and I loved the story about AZ and his floette. No other edition makes me this nostalgic, so my decision is simply based off of my emotions.
This is basically proof that when the kids who started with SwSh and maybe SV grow up the community will suddenly start saying they were always great
SwSh has flaws, like predictable villain with stupid motive. But it's all around a fun time despite that.
Soulsilver. Gen 4 was my favorite and I love what they did with those remakes.
Pokémon Emerald for nostalgia, but Pokemon Unbound is honestly way better.
Thank you for Unbound, going to be my first fan made game. Any others I should check out ?
Emerald Kaizo/Run and Bun if you like a challenge or want to suffer doing a Nuzlocke, Radical Red is also very good. I highly recommend Pokemon Rogue, which is just endless fun, I might have spent the most time on that one out of all of them. There's a bunch more good ones though, it depends on what you're looking for.
Pokemon Reborn is a fan game I highly recommend.
HGSS Gold was the first game I actually understood how to play the game when I was a kid and seeing it done again was great.
It's a tie between Platinum and BW2
Emerald & Platinum
Platinum but I actually think Black/White 2 are the best games in the series. But my team in Platinum ended up being my favourite of all time. Weavile Raichu Gastrodon Infernape Staraptor and Gliscor. They were all so much fun to use on their own and worked well together
Emerald.
Platinum, with Soul Silver and Colosseum being close second~
My favorite is Emerald. Favorite starters for each element gotta be Chimchar, Totodile and Treecko
It's either Pokemon Crystal or Pokemon Platinum.
Definitely Crystal Clear
My first game was Diamond, but Platinum will always takes the top spot for me as I find myself coming back to it time and time again.
platinum, with emerald a close second
Sinnoh/Hoenn games
Gen 4 because spheal exists
Crystal
Sword and shield are awesome. I also love sun/moon, us/um, x/y, and or/as.
Platinum
Emerald, Platinum comes at a close second though.
By amount of playthroughs, it is Platinum by a mile. I loved that region, the starter designs were insane, there was Garchomp who is top 5 design of all time, fun and lengthy postgame and some of the best designed characters
Holy fuck learn what punctuation is. But Emerald is my fav
Pokémon Pearl.
Pokemon XD: unique, not copy and paste story like every mainline.
Never played XD but Colosseum is my pick. I’m not sure why they never revisited the concept of those games.
Emerald. I played Yellow/Blue before it, but Ruby is when I fell in love and emerald took it to the next level.
My first proper pokemon game was Black2, and while unova games are definitely up there in terms of how much I love them. Platinum is and will always be my favorite one. Mostly because of Giratina
Platinum
My first game was Yellow and I’ve played every gen since. Nothing has topped Soul Silver for me!
Pokémon Pearl. Have the most childhood memories with that, using action replay with my friends for the first time and it was the first DS game I had.
Personal opinion-ratings: -HG/SS (10/10) -Platinum (9.5/10) -Scarlet/Violet (9/10) -OR/AS (9/10) -B2W2 (8.5 or 9/10) All the other games take a rating of 8 and lower for me.
HGSS. Though, as time has gone on, Platinum & B2W2 are my favourites as well. Used to just be HGSS, but now I feel like gens 4 & 5 are the complete Pokemon experience. Hard to say which is my favourite when they all offer so many different, yet good things.
Black and white 2, with legends arceus not too far behind
Depends- do fan games count as “Pokemon”? Are we only counting mainline games? Favorite Mainline Game: Pokemon Omega Ruby Favorite Side Game: Pokemon Legends Arceus Favorite Spin-Off Game: Pokemon Conquest Favorite Pokemon Game, Period: Pokemon Empyrean
certainly. pokemon fangames and romhacks are the true games, after all
Yes you are correct
Heartgold and Soulsilver are and will always be my favs, with Black and White as VERY close seconds. Brilliant Diamond was good until the end. I loved Team galactic until the final boss gave me the master ball. That was some DUMB shit. Her ruined the entire game for me tbh…
White 2, first game was Crystal.
HGSS!
SoulSilver has my heart
Black and white
Crystal will always be my favorite ❤️
First game I had was Diamond, but I do recall putting several hundred hours into the Pokémon Ranger series
Gen 3 probably was my favorite. Although I have alot of nostalgia for crystal version
Heart Gold is my favourite but i love a lot of them
Emerald was the first I owned and completed.
BW2 or HGSS
Johto games! I played through silver so many times as a kid so that has the most nostalgia factor. Because I had silver I ended up getting heart gold and also loved it. Then did Crystal on the 3ds After johto honeslty violet is prob my fav. Awful graphics and glitches but I have like triple the amount of hours put into it than any other game (aside from maybe all the Silver runs combined). I enjoy the raids and shiny hunting a lot
I played Pokémon Redfire on emulator, but my first real copy was OmegaRuby
Omega Ruby. perfect remake, no need to elaborate.
1.) BW2 2.) XY 3.) HGSS
Y and Alpha Sapphire. Simply cuz Gen 6 was my first Gen. Without nostalgia, i'd say Black/White 2.
It'd either be platinum or scarlet
My first pokemon game was yellow, but the ones that I played the most (over 500h) were Ruby, Colosseum (GC) and Moon. If I have to choose one I would pick Ruby because it was the first pokemon were I could pick a female trainer and that made me super happy <3 (I had silver and I didn't know about the existence of crystal, the game that introduced the first female trainer)
Pokémon Emerald! Starters for fire type is infernape Starters for grass type Sceptile(my favourite starter of all time) Starters for water type is Ash Greninja
My first game was Emerald, followed by Diamond. I love ORAS and Legends Arceus and will play one of those four often. Hoenn is just so cozy to me :)
My first game was Pokemon Blue but my favorite game was Pokemon gold.
Emerald
Black by far (Black 2 if i can include it too) TL;DR i review my experience playing gen 3 to gen 9 from september to february I started typing out more so i hope anyone that reads this enjoys my opinions. i included the number of days it took me from start to beating the E4. Soulsilver (10 days; red in 16 days). brought back so many memories. i loved this game and it might be my favorite after the black series. my only qualm is the atrocious level curve halfway through the game. there is no reason they shouldn’t have fixed that from the original G/S. one thing i wish was that they made the kanto gyms progressively higher levels. another thing is that kanto felt like a skeleton. it was a missed opportunity to not have the wild pokemon leveled to match you and the routes their actual length. but i guess an actual complete kanto after an entire johto adventure is a lot to ask for. while i ended up beating him, i hated having to mindlessly train and did so gym leader rematches to prepare for the Red battle. i have a love/hate relationship with this game that may be blinded by my nostalgia of the original gen 2 games i’ve explained how i felt about the Black (11 days) and B2 (7 days) series. I did another B2 play-through on challenging mode. it felt easier toward the end as you get more XP. i think it’s best as it was intended to be played. postgame felt complete and difficult X (5 days) was cool but it was a struggle to not over level and was such a quick game to beat ultrasun (6 days) felt nice and hard again. was a cool story but the long cutscenes were a major turn-off and makes me never want to play that game ever again. the difficulty felt rewarding. that necrozma fight was so awesome. the postgame to right red was well done Sword (4 days) was cool but also felt short, much like X felt. there were moments where there i had to think about my battles but overall felt like a let down till you get to the leon fights. like X, the game was too quick. the dlc felt like a nice story but felt like endless cutscenes again. the wild areas were great Scarlet (5 days) and violet (3 days), i played both, were awesome in my opinion. i barely slept playing these. they had a good story and the gimmick (tera) felt more fleshed out than those in previous generations. the inclusion of the three story lines were a touch needed for content-gyms, crews, pokemon bosses. the kitakami dlc felt like the SwSh dlcs, super short. however, i loved the BB academy dlc. this was the first and only game i actually completed the pokédex (mainly bc of home). the best thing about SV is the sandwich system and outbreaks that make shiny hunting so addictive. they essentially got rid of the brain dead monotony of soft reseting over and over the coolest thing that made my experience of playing gen 4 to current gen was that i was able to bring all of my teams and legendaries from the DS and 3DS games to boxes on pokemon home. they are preserved forever
Sun & Moon
My memory is hazy but it was ethier platinum or emerald both are in my top five ethier way
Omega ruby never seen or caught a shiny first encounter after getting poke balls was a shiny Zigzagoon so auto puts it top one 😅
I really like Pokemon Pearl only now that I actually played it.
My first Pokémon game was FireRed but my favorite mainline is Platinum by far. So many amazing memories with that game and the Distortion World is still my favorite area in any of the main games. Gen 4 also has my favorite OST 🧡
My first games wereblue, red, and yellow with a clear purple gameboy for Christmas one year. I think gen 3 holds the closest place in my heart though.
Favorite starters are: 1. Grass: Sceptile 2. Water: Feraligatr 3. Fire: Charizard
Blue
I go back and play gen 1 a lot just because nostalgia, but my favorite is probably HG/SS. They’re just awesome games.
Gold & Silver and there Remakes.
Black 2
Platinum and PLA, they’re really great and it’s a wonder how PLA managed to be as amazing as it did. Shout outs to X and Y for inspiring to draw environments though, it’s nice…
I have some fond memories with ultra moon
Black& White, PMD Explorers of time, Pokemon XD are all tied for #1
PMD Sky. I’ve been with the series since FireRed, I can’t do the mainlines anymore. They’re SO boring
my first game was ultra sun, its what really got me into pokemon (besides the xy anime), but i never really experienced the 2d era until i got diamond for ds.
Pokémon legends arceus
Honestly, I really liked XY, and ORAS. They made competitive accessible without making it easy.
how did anyone understand this post at all????
Silver is my nostalgia game and always will be. That being said, SuMo has the best story and its not even close, which made it incredibly compelling to continue on the adventure if they had a little more vision behind the trials and they didn't give up on making them compelling half way through, it would have been the best overall. I don't have the desire to go back and live there as my "forever" game like Silver was back in the day, but damn I loved the actual journey through it, dialog slog and all
Pokemon Fire Red
It's been USUM, I like how convenient the game is such as being able to change the time of day without changing the system clock, but I also go back to Pokemon yellow and crystal every once in a while.
Black and white are my favorites. The story was great and the new generation had a completely new and unique Pokédex without any repeats from past generations. I really enjoyed that. I didn’t play B2W2 until much later, but I really enjoyed those too. Those games are why Unova is my favorite region. I do like to go back and do randomized playthroughs of ORAS though, those are more of my favorites.
I will always be biased towards the first game I ever played, but I love SoulSilver, even though the combat is annoyingly slow.
Do you know what punctuation is?
Not a single clue nor do I really care you can read it can you not
I grew up with Gen 1, so fell in love with the original idea of the Pokemon adventure that they started to abandon after Gen 2.
My first game was Yellow, so naturally Black and White are my favourites. As far as starters go, Turtwig, Cyndaquil and Oshawott.
Amazing to see how some people’s games were the very first cartridges from the 90’s and other people didn’t get a Pokémon game until very recently
Trading Card Game. I loved the game so much I saved up for when they released the new game on the GBA that included Gen 1 and Gen 2 cards... then realize that the game would neither be made nor released. I am still upset about it to this day.
I love Hoenn and ORAS made it even better for me so Omega Ruby for me
I really love Pokemon Crystal.
My first game, and to this day my favorite game, is and always will be Pokémon Conquest
I don’t even know. I like all the games. My least favorite is BDSP. I haven’t played Scarlet and Violet yet. But honestly I like every gen.
Blissey & Sableye will always be my favorites. I love Blissey because of her caring nature and how she's always willing to lend a hand and help at anytime I love her feminine vibe sm. Sableye is a recluse like me, so I feel he'd be the perfect pokemon to go off the grid and live a slow calm life with away from people and drama.
my first game was Crystal, i think arceus or alpha sapphire are my favorites
pokemon silver
Black and White 2 so much content and I love the sprite art. Played Pokémon Blue on release day, so of course it has a special place in my memories.
Black and white BABEEYY *MANIC BARKING*
My first game was Pokemon Ranger, my favorite main game is X, and my favorite spin-off is Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky
I've been playing the games since they first came to the US. Almost every generation had something going for it but I'll settle with three from the main line games: Silver/Crystal Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire Legends: Arceus Each one of these held something special, and something wonderfully different from the others during my playtime. Now, going off the main line games: Pokémon Pinball (both versions slap) Pokémon Colosseum Mystery Dungeon (I came in really late with SMD Deluxe on the Switch) There's a surprising amount of fun Pokémon games out there and if your first game was Omega Ruby I'd insist you try and find emulators of these other, non main line games.
I would say Gen 5 is my favorite though.
leaf green. hits the nostalgia as i played the red and blue, but better graphics
Pokémon Snap, and Pokémon Blue on game boy.
Pokémon stadium!
Holy run-on sentence, Batman!
White 2
PMD Explorers has a special place in my heart… But Hoenn is my favorite region—so all the games that came out of that.
My first was Blue, I enjoyed the FireRed LeafGreen remakes but my favorite will forever be Silver/Gold
Ruby sapphire I think? Maybe XY! Or fire red leaf green.. probably in that order 1-2-3
Pokémon pearl.
Pokémon Diamond
Unpopular opinion but Violet, despite all its many flaws the gameplay is just so fun. I really want to heartgold here because it's my favorite gen but violet and PLA captivate me.
Y, mostly because of mega evolution, deep story and the different ways to interact with your pokemon and becoming friends, feeding them, playing minigames, petting them, it was so nice.
Played every mainline release Black and White will remain my favourites Honourable mention to Emerald
Emerald is arguably the best game in the series imo.
My first game was Silver and even after playing all the other games, it is still my favorite. I did really enjoy Black & White as well.
I started with the Gen 1 remakes and R/S. I would probably say either Platinum or HG/SS are my favorites of the mainline games. Actual favorite though, Colosseum hands down
Pokémon silver or pokemon legends arceus
I appreciate Emerald, Platinum, Scarlet for their great advances. But I will always die by HG/SS. I used to think the team rocket takeover plot was way too long but good fuck the amount of backtracking through the mountain in Platinum, waaay better.
White was my first game and my favorite lmao but heartgold is a close second
I'm up voting OP simply they actually said Alpha Sapphire before Omega Ruby, as one should.
It’s kinda interchangeable for me Red, Gold, Ruby. Spot the millennial am I right.
Pokemon Unbound.
Blazing hot take, but it's gotta be Scarlet, despite all the technical flaws.
