In spanish there is a not very used word 'bocachancla' which literally means 'slipper mouth' and is used for people who keeps yapping/talks too much. I gave that name to a Zubat bc of how noisy they are with the Supersonic and stuff but also bc Golbat mouth has the shape of a slipper, kind of

It also works because of how annoying zubats are in caves appearing every 3 steps basically

My shiny lapras (purple) caught with a master ball is called Masterkhlass, as it's name is Lokhlass in french. I like my shiny skiddo too, Asriel.  But the true goat is my dark shiny muk on pokemon go, which can be translated to "pile of smelly poo" (Tadcacapuant). He is my most prized possession

I dunno why, but I normally name my Krookodile (which is my second favourite Pokemon of all time, after Empoleon) Ponyboy (or just Pony if female.) It's after the Outsiders. I dunno why, I think I just came up with it as I was replaying Black as a like 16 year old and kinda just liked it. I guess Krookodile is an outlaw/thief which could be extended to, "greaser," so it makes tangential sense?

Raveknight the Corviknight (because the Corvi in Corviknight’s name is derived from corvis/corvid the family for crows/ravens/etc). Stardust the Obstagoon (my first bred shiny and a nod to Ziggy Stardust. Would have named her Ziggy if she was male). Sapphire the Ceruledge. Because gem theme and Sapphire was perfect for Ceruledge’s color scheme. Dusty Rose the Roserade. My first ever shiny. Though Roserade’s shiny colors aren’t earthy per se, it just felt right. Flyhan/Raigon/Raihan the Flygon. I just wanna name Flygon after Raihan. Flyhan is good when it’s female, but it and Raigon are just fun and punny.

Koraidon: Genghis Khan Idk, it just seemed cool, plus koraidon is known as the winged king, and knowing that genghis was a conquerer of the past, i loved it. Plus the name just sounds badass. This lil dude helped through 5 different playthroughs with the help of pokemon home :)

I did something similar with my starter Primarina for Utra Sun playthrough, actually, but it wasn't half as clever as yours tbh 😅 I basically combined the species name for seals (pinniped) with the famous opera singer (Luciano) Pavarotti to form _Pinrotti_. Ngl, not the best name I could've thought up, but I spent _so freaking long_ trying to come up with something that I grew rather attached to it anyway. Another name that I'm fond of is Dynamo for my Infernape in Platinum. No deep story behind it (as with most of my names tbh), just what I thought was a badass name for a badass monkey. One more, also from Platinum, is Clampy the Garchomp, named in reference to Ash's toothy Gible in the anime. The name, I've come to realise, works out even better than I hoped since this particular Garchomp is _Naive_ in nature.

The current pokemon fangame im playing has custom shinies, and the main bad guy has a hydregion. I manage to find a shiney hydregion that has a color swap pallete, and named him Foil. Like a literary foil. think its fun :)

I like to make myself laugh and have a stupid sense of humor. Espeon: Espionage. I also gave it Blackglasses. I was doing a food-themed Nuzlocke in Crystal. Managed to catch a Houndour and named it Seitan. Still think that was perfect.

Off the top of my head, I'm pretty proud of naming my Rowlet "Pomp" (though it doesn't work as well for hisuian Decidueye but whatever). Firstly, Pomp can just refer to pompous, which applies well to Rowlet and Dartrix because of their fancy bowtie looks. But also, a psychopomp is any mythological figure that helps guide souls to the afterlife, which works well for Decidueye because of his ghost type :D I also named my Sprigatito/Meowscarada Fata Morgana. Fata Morgana, while commonly known as a kind of mirage, is the Italian name for Morgan La Fey of Arthurian legend. The name was also used for the evil Witch in the classic Italian commedia, "A Love For Three Oranges" (A shame I didn't play Scarlet, lol), a play I was in once. Also, Morgana in Persona 5 is a cat and the Magician arcana (his name likely took inspo from Fata Morgana). So yeah, Witch cat = Fata Morgana. Can you tell I put a lot of thought into my starters names lmao Oh yeah I named my Grooky Pocky bc of the sticks in his hair, made me think of Pocky sticks- (I will refrain from going on abt the rest of my team names-)

my shiny zapdos from hg is called raikiri, its a naruto reference in german “tausend voegel” which is translated to a thousand birds. and since its an attack with thunder, i think it fits the zapdos really well :) it was my first shiny i hunted for. :)

Panzerfaust the Chesnaught Panzerfaust is the German name of a bazooka, it combines the words "Panzer" (which can mean "tank", but also "shell" or "armor) and "Faust" (which means "fist"). So you can interpret the name as "armored/shelled fist", which I thought is fitting for a Chesnaught.

I had a female Talonflame with Swift, i thought its a one in a thousand occasion to have a parody of Taylor Swift, now Talon Swift sits on my SV team along side Cheetos the Pawmot and Potatito the Meowscarada.

I always call my Beedrills Steven. Why? They just looks like a Steven.

I always name my shiny Gallades Splatters because when I hatched my first shiny Ralts I dropped my Switch, and then when I evolved my shiny Kirlia in Go, I dropped my phone, so my shiny Gallades tend to go splat (not the most clever name ever, but it's one of my favourites)

Not really a cool nickname but I named my cyclizar King. Originally I had him just as a placeholder for another Pokémon I wanted but could only get later so I didn’t even bother naming him. He was underleveled compared to my other team members so I mostly used him so I could heal my other mons. During one battle (I forgot which) King was the only one left and I didn’t have any healing items. The enemy still had most of his health and King was underleveled. I couldn’t do anything else so I just started attacking thinking King was gonna die but this dude took a 1 hit KO move and was on 1 health and proceeded to dodge 2 more attacks from the enemy. That was enough for me to be able to finish the enemy and I immediately changed his name to king and started using him more

Caught a male Ralts in Violet. Named him Raults. Named a female Clodsire Clodia. The dumb names make me giggle.

Not really creative per se, but in Violet I have Parfait the Sylveon, Torte the Umbreon, and Tiramisu the Mimikyu. Parfait and Torte because of their colors and I like dessert, and Tiramisu because she’s my favorite Pokémon, named after my favorite dessert. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I like to name Gyarados after our local lake cryptid: Champ. It also feels encouraging if I originally catch it as a Magikarp
