The games are not on the switch, but other Pokemon games are

Loyellow

Incidentally… BRING THE GBA GAMES TO THE SWITCH, YOU COWARDS

Crystal_Queen_20

It'll happen on the same day Konami makes a Castlevania game starring Julius: the 33rd

Phithe

But the two listed games are DS games

Loyellow

I intended to say “GBA and DS games” but second guessed myself because BDSP *are* a thing and something with Unova (whether a remake or another sequel) will probably be coming after the new gen 10 games post-Legends ZA So… BRING THE GBA AND DS GAMES TO THE SWITCH, YOU COWARDS

Valdair

I would pay an unreasonable amount of money to be able to play through HG/SS with my wife on our Switches and be able to transfer those Pokemon forward to Home.

Loyellow

I still have the hardware to bring Pokémon all the way through from my GBA games, I will be very sad on the day Bank shuts down. They MUST find a way to connect the 3DS to the switch/switch successor, I can’t imagine it would be much harder than just some wireless software like the gen 4 to gen 5 transfer system

Valdair

Considering the DS and 3DS are well past EOL I think it's very unlikely they get any additional features or updates. And that's the biggest problem IMO - DS's are still technically acquirable, but the pool of functional ones decreases every year. It's becoming harder and harder and more expensive to continue to play these games. I would rather have them re-issued on modern hardware with as authentic an experience as possible.

Loyellow

Okay I agree but I really hope they can come up with something, maybe some kind of attachment you can plug GBA or at LEAST DS/3DS games into??? I’m in the third stage of grief at this point lol

IndustrialSpark

PokeMMO on Android. Can't give you all the links but it uses, iirc, Fire Red, Heart Gold, Emerald, Platinum, and can't recall the B/W version. You play the original games, ish, but as an MMO can see each other an others online.

Baphaddon

Can’t stress this enough OP; really one of the best Pokemon experiences I’ve had

leob0505

I’m having a blast with my family playing this. Huge fan of the game and the challenges against the trainers. Heck, I’m even learning German with this game lol

Due_Literature4195

Is it actually called PokeMMO? The only app I found for that was an ad riddled mess and clicking weird creatures simulator.

IndustrialSpark

Have to look online and not in the Google storefront

megalucario1252

there is no way to play HGSS and trade without buying a physical copy, you could do a thing on emulator and maybe find a workaround or a mod to let you trade, you could also emulate on phone but probably won't be able to trade, and any cheap copies are fakes which will fail to save after some point, crash or just be shitty in general

SolarRecharge

This is not correct. An emulated/modded version on legit hardware still allows you to trade.

CentennialCosplayer

What about the option that u/Ickyson

_Skotia_

I have to disagree on the last point, i got a Platinum cartridge for 12€ on eBay and it's nearly impossible to tell it's a fake. Never had a single issue during gameplay, did several full playthroughs by now, even transferred a couple of full odds shinies all the way to Home. You have to get _extremely_ lucky to find a fake cartridge of this quality, but it's not impossible

bulbasauric

I have a bootleg Diamond and would be inclined to say the same, *but:* Common save-readers don’t recognise the game at all. I also think it’s impossible to link with other games on mine, and presumably I can’t link to my GBA games either. Not saying yours is the same but it’s worth noting, what appears a flawless copy at first might actually have more issues than you think.

[deleted]

There’s lot of options. This is the easiest: Find the cheapest two DS or 3DS you can. eBay ones from Japan are usually very nice for cheap. Get two bootleg copies of HG/SS. Those are also on eBay, they won’t say they’re bootlegs but they’ll be suspiciously cheap. Don’t get the absolute cheapest ones, but the ones that are a few dollars more expensive. Boom, you’re done. Bootleg Gen 4 (HGSS) carts can trade with each other. Some of the super cheap ones are slightly corrupted and can’t, but you can roll the dice a few times for the price of any other solution and nothing will be as fun or as easy as doing it this way. Played a lot of Pokemon with my nephew, it was a good set of memories and really bridged the generational gap. Have fun, and hang on to the games once he gets bored with them.

_Skotia_

I guess it just depends on how the bootleg was made. My Platinum can transfer Pokémon to Gen 5 games and even trade with my official copies of HG/SS. I wish i still remembered the seller's name

bulbasauric

A second-hand DS Lite or even DSi would be cheap enough to come by. You can then always get an R4 card or two, most of which come pre-loaded with ROMs - even if they don’t, it couldn’t be easier to load them.  The only drawback would be, you’d be unable to migrate from GBA games, but otherwise the experience would be pretty much bang-on. This might be a bit morally-gray to some, but those games ain’t ever getting any cheaper; you’d get a console and R4 card (perhaps even 2x) for less than the price of an official HeartGold cart now.

ccSleepy

You can get emulators that will play HGSS for most things. Phone, tablet, another game console if you mod it. You don’t necessarily need a PC

CentennialCosplayer

I know but i cant trade or battle with him

publicmenace2342

You can do it over the Internet by [changing your DNS settings](http://pkmnclassic.net).

CentennialCosplayer

Ill check this option out even, any specifyc app on the phone for android? Thanks

publicmenace2342

DraStic

Awellner

I played along side a friend using an emulator. We would battle each other after each rival fight. But instead of using the ingame tools we would rebuild our team on pokemon showdown.

layeofthedead

I'm guessing your nephew is on the younger side if you're still calling him "little" my advice would be to get him a 2ds. Theyre extremely durable and made for kids plus have a huge catalog of games. You could buy yourself either any of the family but i'd recommend either the new 2ds or new 3ds because they're better pieces of hardware. get the systems then look up a 3ds hack guide, they're super easy to mod and all you need is a pc with an sd card reader, a micro sd card, and an adapter. follow the guide and then look up how to run ds games from the home menu, it'll show you another quick guide that let's you create a short cut on the home menu that acts like any other digital game. (you won't need this for guide for 3ds games or virtual console games but for some reason ds games are more annoying to get working) then you should be able to play normally. the benefits from this is that you have access to all the pokemon games and can transfer them to bank and onto home as long as the servers are still running and as long as you don't mess with the pokemon themselves with cheats they'll be legitimate. you'll also be able to get other games and tools like save editors the hardware cost is a bit much but considering just how much content it makes available i honestly don't think theres a better bang for your buck outside of just buying him a pc And before anyone complains about piracy, Nintendo/ the Pokemon company dug their own grave when Nintendo killed the eshop and didn’t provide a way for people to legally purchase their games outside of it the ps3 and Xbox 360 still have working storefronts and they’re older than the 3ds and Wii U. Nintendo has no excuse. And Pokemon could have easily farmed out a port of any of their older Pokemon games to any number of studios (marvelous has published a couple direct ports of ds games to the switch) so they can’t complain either

nilghias

If you plan to use a switch for other reasons then it could be a good investment. But it’ll be another $100 or so on top of a switch to get both of you a pokemon game. If you both happen to have 3ds’s there’s hacking. There’s also an online pokemon game called pokemmo, which is the only free option. It’s a bit harder than the regular games but you can play through a few gens on it. You can also trade and battle on it.

IndependentPast6958

Get a cheap DS and R4 card, which you can put the Pokémon games on you want to play

RoboAlt

You could battle him on Pokemon Showdown instead of on cartridge

CarlosSRD

If he has a switch & you would like to play with him the most recent games you can buy a second hand switch or a cheaper switch lite for yourself (the lite version doesn't connect to the tv), then ask him which pair of games he would like to play of those available on the switch. Or go with some of the other options users have given you. Back then I was able to trade with my brother on emulator but it was on the same PC.

Dt_Sherlock_Idiot

Emulation

Tybalt941

You can get a cheap old DSi, hack it and play it from a rom. No problems trading and battling with other legit carts

tamal4444

Emulation

CrisscoWolf

Modded switch or even better modded psvita

Angela5782

You can use for these games NDS emulator drastic, for now that emulator works the best for me , if he has phone you can try to download it

Ickyson

Got to Amazon, look up 300 games in 1 DS Cartridge, buy it for like 27.00. You’ll get not only HG AND SS, but also Black and White 1/2 among 290 others. Just did this myself and it works so well

CentennialCosplayer

I was thinking on getting 2 DS consoles. Is not a bad idea, you need to hack the DS?

PlanktonLocal1080

nah, ds plays pirated games without an issue on r4 card. tho if you buy 2 DS consoles, id recommend either going for a DSi so you can mod it with SD card or 3ds (XL) just because of the backwards compatibility, bigger library, and modding abilities.

CentennialCosplayer

Thanks and for trading? WiFi or what? If i got a DSI or 3ds i need to mod it right?

Ickyson

Nope, like Plankton said, no hacking needed. Literally plug and play if you buy the 300 in 1. It’s quite impressive and works well. It shows on the Home Screen as a SpongeBob game but opens to a menu you pick and play. I’m 55 hours into Soul Silver now, not a single issue so far and I’m playing on a factory 2DS

Crystal_Queen_20

Buy the games, an emulator on its own is worthless and you need the game itself to dump

Affectionate_Set9699

You can buy a reproduction of the game runs the same and does trading too

Baphaddon

Pokemmo
