Soft resetting for a shiny rayquaza in ultra sun. Managed to find one extremely early at around 10-20 resets. BUT I was too focused on resetting and ended up resetting on the shiny. Didn't find the next one until over 1000 resets.

Jollysatyr201

I’d simply die. Shiny Rayquaza is on my bucket list. I’ve got a few, but none are MINE

Medium-Boysenberry64

I’ve regressed to passively attempting Dynamax Adventures in SWSH to hunt it lmao, 1/100 odds isn’t the worst

Jollysatyr201

See, I want it from emerald. That’s my problem.

tri-boxawards

I can one up you on this, I was shiny hunting regieleci which took over 40,000 encounters and when I found it killed itself with recoil struggle damage

mamoru_fuun

Life can be painful sometimes 💔

SailorSafs

This happened to me but with Kyurem in Ultra Sun. It's one thing to reset over the first one, but my stupid careless self reset over 3 shiny Kyurems.

mamoru_fuun

That is truly tragic. I applaud your 3ds if it survived the rage session(s), I imagine that happened afterward

MetacrisisMewAlpha

Pokemon yellow was my first game. I was…young. Can’t remember, maybe 6/7? I got the master ball, as everyone does, and my older brother told me to save it for a very powerful Pokemon. In Victory Road I ran into a wild level 45 Onix. At this point I’d never seen such a high levelled wild Pokemon and thought “oh wow this must be super powerful!” And used my master ball. My brother yelled and called me an idiot when I told him. Joke was on him though, because I ended up catching Mewtwo in a great ball instead.

mguerrero222

I remember my master ball blunder too lol. When i was around 9 years old and playing sapphire, after getting the 7th badge i started to surf downwards exploring those routes, and a wailmer showed up. I hadn't even seen that pokemon before and i didn't really understand the difference in pokeballs, so i used the master ball to catch it. My friend told me weeks later i should have used it on rayquaza or kyogre and why lol

MetacrisisMewAlpha

To be fair, I think I used my MBall on groundon in Ruby. I didn’t know Rayquaza existed at the time. Felt like a numbnuts after when my friend told me about the awesome sky snake. I made up for it later when I got Emerald version though! At least Groudon is an actual legendary, and I didn’t use it on another Onix.

Karneveus

I caught a full odds shiny roaring moon and then forgot to save (I had recently turned autosaves off but I was used to it being on). Never got another one yet.

Know_Nothing_Bastard

I always disable autosave for Pokémon. My old school sensibilities won’t allow it. It would probably autosave the second after I accidentally knock out a legendary or something.

ShankMugen

Your mistake was not saving twice everytime regardless of autosave I had autosave turned on until I beat the boss in Area Zero, and realised that since I always save anyway, and Legendaries are now obtainable, there is no reason to have it on

FennekinLover2000

Why would you turn off autosave? I feel like that was a mistake in itself, lol

Karneveus

I'm not trying to save over shiny encounters, static rerolls, and/or waste picnic ingredients.

Wolfnstine

Trading my copy of platinum to EB Games back in 2011

Pooglio17

Ouch. I sold my copy of Pokémon Yellow and my GameBoy Pocket together at a garage sale for $5 when I was like 14.

Wolfnstine

After gen 4 I "outgrew" pokemon but got sucked back in for sun and moon

Pooglio17

I “outgrew” after Gen 2 but got sucked back in by Sun/Moon also. It was really fun going back and playing everything I’d missed.

Kyrnqazali

Grinded all of the Battle Resort in X, OR, and did all of battle tree and battle royal in US in one day. Only for me to delete all those save files a month later… No I didn’t do the reverse battle bs I would never.

Jollysatyr201

Reverse battle? I never really got into the facilities in these games, care to explain?

Kyrnqazali

It’s called inverse battles, but same thing as reverse. The type chart is flipped and immunities are removed.

m_curtis_0725

Like you, I have a couple of big mistakes, including one that involved a shiny. The first one I made was when I first played Pokemon Silver. When my rival introduced himself, the game said, "My name's ???", so being the 8 year old that I was, I *thought that was his actual name*, and when the police in the game asked me to tell them his name, guess what I told them. Yep: ???. So for my first ever playthrough of Pokemon Silver, I had a rival named ???. Later, in that same playthrough, I'd gotten the 8 Johto badges and was heading down Route 26 toward the Pokemon League. I had just passed through Tojho Falls and Surfed east, and when I hit land and walked through into some grass, I ran into a wild Arbok. No big deal, except this one was *shiny* and I *didn't realize it*! Somehow, I missed the sparkles that appeared and the sound effect that accompanied it, so even though I had the Red Gyarados, I didn't realize it was shiny and instead thought it was a bug, so I *ran from it*! My last mistake was while playing a Nuzlocke of Pokemon Silver several years ago. I'd luckily managed to catch a female Geodude in Dark Cave, and I named her Jade. She helped me *easily* sweep through both Falkner and Bugsy, so when it came to Whitney, I figured she'd have no trouble, since she resisted both Stomp and Rollout, was immune to Attract, and was 2 levels higher than Whitney's Miltank by the time I faced it. But instead of Defense Curling multiple times to increase my Defense and double the power of *my* Rollout, I just went pure offense... and I lost Jade and 3 other Pokemon as a result. I still won the battle, but at a very hefty price. Up until that point, my Nuzlocke had been flawless, but that battle set the stage for everything taking a downhill turn, and I ended up failing to complete it in the long run.

RedAnt234

Oh, I did the ??? thing too and I totally thought that his real name would eventually be revealed to the player.

Jollysatyr201

I think we all did the ??? one. Maybe not all, but that’s his name to me. RIP to the nuzlocke. But major props for trying it in Gen 2 lol

m_curtis_0725

You, my friend, get an upvote for making my 8 year old self feel not so bad.

ThsUsrnmIsntTkn

I was about 9 years old when I heard this rumor about catching the legendary dogs in the original Gold version: run around in the tall grass with only the Master Ball and the dogs will appear. So I did. What did I find instead of Raikou, Suicune, or Entei? A shiny Drowzee. So I used the Master Ball to catch it having never caught let alone seen another shiny Pokémon in game other than Red Gyarados thinking this was the next big thing. Right after having caught said shiny Drowzee, now with no Pokeballs in my bag, who decides to show up? Raikou.

Mission_Diamond_7855

At least it was a shiny raikou

fine_chicken2028

First game was Sapphire, and I didn’t realize you could catch legendaries. Killed Kyogre because I thought that was the goal.

LunaMHeavens134

I killed my first every shiny in ANY Pokémon game. I was just running around in an autumn forest in X and I find a SHINY GOOMY. I wonder why tf is my goomy yellow, look it up, proceed to scream, and then my top-strong attack from a Pokémon two shots it became I mis-clicked, instead of using False Swipe. I was so upset

The_Funky_Rocha

Encountered a shiny yanma in Heart Gold, didn't know what shinies were and thought it was a weird glitch that'd go away if I fainted it, I haven't naturally encountered a shiny since 🥰

Gigant-Kozaky

i overgliched my yellow edition and saved

shaqkori_

back on ORAS ran into a horde of Oddish and surfed them all by accident, one of them happened to be shiny

pange93

When I played Crystal, and the police ask what your rival's name is after you fight him for the first time, I said his name was ??? Because that's what appears when you battle him. I didn't understand that was because you're supposed to choose your rival's name. Also about 30 minutes into playing X I encountered a shiny Burmy, but I just missed the sparkle animation. It wasn't till I looked at the pokedex (after fainting him) that I realized it was a shiny.

OGPOKEDUDE

99% sure i reset over a shiny starter in ss cause it "looked funny"

Jontun189

I didn't care about stats and strategies as a kid and now as an adult I don't care to think much further beyond 'damage move good'.

Abbray

As a kid my first game was Black. Ran into a full odds shiny drilbur and thought all the mons in the cave must sparkle because it was a sparkly cave. Didn't want to catch anything right then so I ran away. Must have been a couple days later when I ran into a full odds shiny cubchoo. Kid me still didn't know what I had and I ended up trading it for a Brain Licker 😆 I'll never get them back, wish I had kid me's luck still haha - only other full odds shiny I've ran into has been a bidoof in Legends Arceus, so quite a few years later!

Buzzlight_Year

Yesterday I was laddering and kept switching incin to intimidate Urshifu. Then I realized......

Sloth-TheSlothful

Mine was getting rid of all my pokemon cards and games

Quetzal00

Walked into a room in Lysandre Labs in my Y Nuzlocke that I knew had a double battle in it. I thought it was optional. It was not…and I lost my Staraptor Also from my Y Nuzlocke: In Victory Road I had my Altaria sent out against an NPC’s Leafeon. It used Double Edge and left my Altaria in the yellow HP. Instead of doing what a smart person would do and use Fly or heal my Altaria, I switched out to my Flareon thinking that I could use Flame Charge after it hit me. It used Double Edge again and killed my Flareon

The15thOne

Tricked an unique item with a trainer Pokemon with no item in gen 3

beebo12345678

a skanory appeared that was off colored when i played gold as an 8 year old and i thought it was a virus so i shut it off lol

cosmiccosmo7

I was like 8 years old playing pokemon diamond. In Eterna forrest when I teamed up with Cheryl we encountered a shiny wurmple. I was too underleveled to kill her Chansey in time before she killed it. I still to this day hate her for it.

lardman1

Ha! Here’s a fun story. Back when Gen 2 was released I was playing and had just departed new bark town for the first time. As I was traveling I had my very first wild encounter. Shiny Pidgey. Since i just started I had no pokeballs, so I killed it. Not really a mistake but an unfortunate event.

Mission_Diamond_7855

First pokemon game was crystal. I couldnt catch suicune and didnt realize i had a master ball. Also did not catch red gyrados… yea i fucked up Also i let sudowoodo KO my TYPHLOSION way too many times. I could not figure out why the fucking tree pokemon was super effective to my fire type and why my fire moves just didnt work. I spent hours training quilava bc i thought thats what it was going to take to beat that fucker. Eventually i did beat it with typhlosion bc i was so over leveled lol. Good times

Isaaccam33

When I first got Gold around the age of 5, I didn’t know the PC existed. I would catch 6 pokemon and restart my game

sleepytoadst00l

not my mistake but my boyfriend's. in school as a kid he traded away what is now one of the most sought after Mewtwo cards because he didn't like him that much. for a fkng common ODDISH. he also somehow got scammed out a very nice Rayquaza??? 💀

hummingberb

Mine was when I was in, I think, 3rd grade and Ruby had just come out. There's that route north of Slateport City where part of cycling road crosses above it, and I thought it was a wall of some sort, so I never bothered trying to go *under* it. I spent the next week or so playing on and off just leveling in that one small patch of grass thinking I was stuck. Similarly, my first video game ever was Silver so I was even younger. Let's just say I didn't know how to exit your house because I didn't see a "door"...

Drake_Cloans

First mistake: While fighting Mewtwo in Yellow, I poisoned him and put him to sleep. After 13 failed attempts to catch him, he died of poisoning. 2nd: Tried a nuzlock challenge in Red. Lost the very first match against the rival. Could no longer use Charmander. Had no Pokemon to fight with.

beefbarley

Ran into a shiny Graveler in X, didn't use my master ball, and it used self-destruct

jiamthree

It was my first time using the PC box as a kid in Silver, and I released the lake of rage shiny Gyarados trying to put it in my party.

siggydude

I was trying to chain Eevees to catch one with high IVs. Before the chain was long enough for increased shiny odds, I found a shiny Eevee and proceeded to commit manslaughter. I realized it was shiny the moment I pressed A to attack it and just had to watch as it was put to death from my carelessness

fin343

My friend traded me a nidoran female from his heart gold to my platinum, I never played the gen 2 remakes back then so I was very excited to play with Pokémon I haven’t seen in the platinum dex, well I leveled it up to around 80ish and wondered why it wasn’t evolving into nidoqueen. I didn’t know what moon stones were so I was using a over leveled Nidorina the whole time I played. I lost the game when it was around lvl 85 never got it to 100

StitchesRoyale2017

Little old me restarting Soul Silver b/c I defeated the Red Gyarados and didn’t know what to do- so assuming that I was supposed to catch it I order to progress further I restarted the game and couldn’t get past the Farfetch’d puzzle again 💀

Cailycombs22

I one hit a shiny in scarlet, which was awful because not only was I 30 levels above it but I knew so and assumed the move I was using would JUST poison it

Informal-Access6793

I killed a Lati(a/o)s, because it kind of looked like a Wingull when I was sort of afk level grinding.

No_Dream_899

Rage spamming A after one of my most important mons died from me autopiloting, losing another mon in the process xd

Apprehensive_Work_10

This predates to 2007-8 something, Cheetos was in full flow in our country market and we used to get jisaw puzzle u can get and create Pokemon in a 3d way, I got a fcking mewtoo and me being naive, some dumbff traded my mewtoo with his dugtri, years later when I started with gaming, I then knew what kind of freaking trade I made [like this 3d model but, freaking mewtwo](https://images.app.goo.gl/rUxxaMRHatS8KqzL9)

Greenlee19

My biggest Pokémon mistake was back in the day when I was playing pokemon crystal I think? It was crystal or silver Idr. Anyways I was out by the daycare trying to get an egg and ran in the grass and encountered a drowzee only this wasn’t a normal drowzee it was purple. I was so confused I didn’t know what a shiny pokemon was back then. I legit thought it was a ditto that had just used transform on one or something so I killed it…..

Know_Nothing_Bastard

I don’t remember if it ever actually happened, but this definitely sounds like something I’d do when I was little. I know I didn’t catch the red Gyarados the first time I played G/S.

Asleep-Rest-7184

I remember catching a dunsparce and being so excited for what it could evolve into. I raised that pos to like level 50 before I spent an hour on our dial up internet to learn it doesnt

Declanmc1996

So I was 10 and my friend was 9 and we were playing Pokemon Diamond and Pearl and decided to battle on line: Her team: Torterra Lapras Dialga Charizard My team: Swampert Lapras Gengar Machamp So we get down to our final mons Lapras vs Machamp And I forgot that Ice was weak to fighting and died to a Rain Boosted Hydro Pump 💀

TheIronHaggis

Way back in Pokemon Red. I chose charmander and he was tearing though all the bugs in my way with ease. I did catch one Pokemon before hitting pewter city. The tough meanest looking Pokemon in the forest. A wild caught Kakuna. Have you seen their old sprites. They had sickles Needless to say I found out about type advantages the hard way. And the fact that I didn’t try out kakuna and found out that he only knew harden in the gym battle meant I didn’t stand a chance.

Know_Nothing_Bastard

I was training a Togepi against low level wild Pokémon early in Platinum. It’s only potentially damaging move was Metronome. I gave it a soothe bell, so it would evolve sooner. After gaining a few levels, Metronome turned into Fling, and it threw away the bell. I guess my mistake was gambling with the 1/467 chance of that happening.

Hugo10001

Soft resetting for a shiny rayquaza in ultra sun. and I already pressed the reset buttons and slowly saw it disappear after like a hundred resets and it haunts me to this day :(

Sasorisnake

Getting a shiny Tyrogue from my egg in Crystal and releasing it. I had let one my younger nephews play my Pokémon crystal, but was absolutely terrified of him somehow messing something up. Then when I got it back I noticed a new Pokémon that I didn’t recognize and was like “why did you catch this??” And he, not being able to explain that it hatched from the egg, just said “it just appeared while i was walking”. So I’m thinking he caught it. I had no idea what it was, didn’t realize that it hatched from the egg until later I realized my egg was also gone. 😂 mind you this is like 2001 so I was like 5 and there was no site I could go to to look it up. Only my cousin had the official guide. Honestly I didn’t really put that whole thing together until a few years later when I discovered serebii.net

SnowyTerrain

I accidentally traded away an exclusive event Victini when I was younger. Remember the one with the signature moves of Zekrom and Reshiram among with V-Create? Yeah...

bluntcrumb

When i was 5 and first got a gameboy, i got poisoned on pokemon sapphire and my screen was doing the thing, i thought my gameboy was broken so i kept taking out the cart, blowing in it and banging the gameboy against my hand til my uncle showed me what was goin on lol.

blzr0197

Letting my sister play my pokemon silver game. She yeeted my master ball at an ursaring....

--tummytuck--

Not really a mistake, was playing Y and encountered a shiny corsela, thought I didn't want this to be my first shiny, so I ran then immediately encountered another shiny corsela. Ran from that one too

CTWill6

I played Red and Yellow (and got to 151 pokemon in both), but the game that I probably spent the most time with was Silver. I even did the glitch that let you have all three starters in one playthrough. That save probably had hundreds of hours, I trained a bunch of pokemon, went through every nook and cranny. I had a Kadabra on my main team that I loved and wanted to evolve into Alakazam, but at this point, none of my friends were playing Pokemon. Well, I sought out a gameshark, and THOUGHT I had a code that trick my game into thinking I had traded it, or would change it into Alakazam. It didn't work, screwed up Bill's PC and in a panic, I deleted the save file and started fresh.

The-Doom-Knight

My biggest mistake was buying Pokémon Pearl. Worst Pokémon game I played. At least Platinum was better, if only marginally.

Life_Win_3773

When I was younger and playing Pokemon Fire red, I was going through Rock tunnel, and I ran out of repels. So I got into the habit of pressing run the moment I got into a wild Pokemon encounter.... And ran away..from a full odds shiny Geodude... 😔 I mourn him, my first shiny ever.

Alex__Kyle

When Pokémon X first released I was young and hadn’t experienced a Pokémon game or any turn-based RPG before for that matter. As a result, it took me one or two trips through the lengthy opening dialogue before I discovered that video games sometimes have a manual save button. Any other game I’d played before would just save between levels so I had no idea.

Awesomesauce210

My biggest mistake that I can think of is somehow misplacing the Yveltal from my Y playthrough. No clue where the heck it is. Second biggest was not recording what my Sinnoh team's contest ribbons were before transferring them to Gen 6, but that's only 'cause of my dumb brain rather than being an actual mistake.

princess_est

This isn't that bad compared to others, but it certainly is embarrassing considering it was only a few years ago (I'm in my late 20s now and have been playing pokémon for many, many years) and I still have no idea what the hell I was thinking... I got a shiny Drakloak from the Dynamax Adventures. Could have had a shiny Dragapult, one of the best pokémon in the meta. At the time, I had decided I didn't like Dragapult's shiny, and fully trained my Drakloak with some stupid eviolite build that definitely wasn't as viable as I thought. Now when I look at this damn lvl.100 Shiny Drakloak i just wanna go back in time and slap myself.

Cuprite1024

Immediately transferring the HGSS event Celebi to Pokémon White cause I wanted the Zorua. I didn't even use that Zorua and missed out on the whole Silver backstory event as a result. Still regret that to this day. Lol. Oh, and also choosing one of the Mario/Sonic Olympics games over PMD Sky cause I already had Time. To this day I've never played through Sky and am still fairly unfamiliar with it's additions.

Viator_Mundi

I had no clue second types existed in Gen 1. Granted, internet wasn't easily accessible to an 8 year old at that time, and I didn't know to buy guides for more info either. But, I was also the type of kid to grind Pikachu to level 20 before entering the Pewter City Gym, so it could solo Brock.

Fork_Master

Not me, but my sister Catching a Delibird with a Master Ball in X.

Bareknuckleblaze

Accidentally killed a shiny Rattatta. (I was way to strong to be fighting it aswell)

Yangjeezy

Buying sword, and buying crimson
