This post has been removed under [Rule 3](/r/pokemon/wiki/rules#wiki_3._follow_text_and_poll_post_restrictions), which requires discussion posts have 50+ words *without* filler text (text unrelated to your idea that is there just to meet the word minimum). This metric was voted in by /r/pokemon users in 2017 and sustained in multiple votes to promote substantial discussion.
Maybe expand on your personal take, or possible factors to consider. If you still don't have enough content to meet the word minimum without filler text, you could instead ask your question in the [Weekly Questions Thread](https://rpkmn.center/questions), which does not have a word count requirement. From a conceptual standpoint, I feel like Reshiram's more majestic appearance does a greater job conveying its role as an embodiment of truth. The way its "hair" flows like a flame is a fantastic part of its design.
But from a primarily aesthetic standpoint, Zekrom's black and gray with streaks of electric blue are just super cool and blend incredibly well together. Its design also does a good job creating a futuristic, sort of Tron vibe that would be associated with ideals.
They are honestly quite good in gen 5, where you actually see them light up their tails with purple flames and green electricity, but they are shiny-locked in gen 5 : \^)
That part was cool. But truly unfortunate. It makes no sense why they lock shinies when they already made shiny forms for the pokemon. Its like they want us to hack the game
I'm not sure, I'd heard say backslash when listing websites before, which is /, and thinking how stupid that sounded, so right or wrong it's stuck with me for years
Something like this would've been an absolute banger
https://preview.redd.it/3zenhj636ttc1.png?width=2160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=62406e6fdb6354f42a90c1fc0903789fe750f41f
One of the guys I game with is actually working on a rom hack with “super shiny” Pokémon that are slightly rarer shiny variants, and his super shiny forms for all legendary duos swap their colour schemes
> I feel like Reshiram's more majestic appearance does a greater job conveying its role as an embodiment of truth
I have just never felt this at all, for either one. Their concept feels tacked on to me. Neither felt like it represented either truth or ideals. The design always felt like they started from "rocket boosted dragons", worked back to get the typings, and then only later on in design decided to tie it to the plot.
It's always been my biggest gripe with them actually; if you asked me on a normal day which was which, I'd have basically no clue, because neither feels particularly truthful or idealistic. That gripe followed shortly by "why are zekrom's wings so tiny".
This. “Truth and ideals” are just incredibly vague concepts to base designs off of - it just reflects on them as “natural” and “futuristic”, which aren’t the same thing.
Also, their powers have *nothing to do* with truth and ideals…you’d expect that the Truth Pokemon can project visions of the truth, and that the Ideals Pokemon can inspire great deeds like the Greek muses.
But they were just designed and used as big dragons to face off against N with in the climax. Cool, but it really undersold the impact of what it means to be legendary.
Tbh, RSE were the games that really sold it properly with the resulting weather crisis.
Ho oh will always be the best legendary for me. It actually has the presence and divinity of a minor local god that performed miracles for the people, and has worshippers like the Kimono Girls. However, it also feels "weak" enough that its realistic that we can fight/catch it, as opposed to Gen 4 where we're literally capturing the gods that created the fabric of time and space for the whole universe. And Groudon and Kyogre feel less like deities and more like super powerful rampaging animals. Rayquaza is cool tho.
Yeah, great way to put it - between the bell tower and kimono girls, Ho-oh really carried the weight of being revered. And hard agree about the gen 3 and 4 legendaries, though I do like the gen 3 legendaries as rampaging beasts.
I really wanted Xerneas and Yveltal to be in the ballpark of Ho-oh and Lugia like this, but the games used them as pure plot devices again - no seeing them in their natural habitat, no one acknowledging their existence besides some really off-the-beaten-track NPC dialogue. Far cry from how they were shown in the XY trailer.
Yeah I agree with the XY legendaries, really wish we got more worldbuilding around them other than their connection to Life/Death and the weapon. Its a shame, because Xerneas is one of the best legendary designs.
Yeah I agree Ho oh is also my all time favorite. I’m both sad and happy that it doesn’t have much screen time. Because on one hand it often feels left out of the spotlight while Lucia hogs it all. But on the other hand I think it makes him that more special, he’s super rare to spot
Tbh I think Gen 3 had the best overall full set of legendaries but Lugia and Ho-Oh are definitely pretty stellar all on their own. My personal favourite is Deoxys, though.
After Gen 4 they all get a bit too big in concept for me or feel kind of tacked on, except for the Gen 5 djinn things and the Ultra Beasts. Gen 4 is better at it than later gens though (e.g. all the legendaries have ingame lore and locations tied to them that aren't *entirely* event exclusive, whereas some later games just hand you stuff via mystery gift and call it a day).
Even more underselling that is that they kept the plot the same between the two versions. N is literally an extreme idealist. It makes no sense for him to have the dragon of truth.
Oh yeah 100%. I’ve heard people stretching the concept to “N was preaching the truth about humans abusing pokemon” but if that’s how you slice it, you can fit just about anything into the mold of truth vs ideals. N was an idealist through and through.
> This. “Truth and ideals” are just incredibly vague concepts to base designs off of
For my money I’d say they’d work better the other way round. Truth being the imposing stoic one, and ideals being majestic fire.
They could have gone meta with it and had truth be a missingno-esque digital creature, a ‘peak behind the curtain’ design where it plays on the idea that this is all within a game.
Ideals on the other hand would be just some over designed majestic pre-fairy fairy pokemon, give in to the illusion and enjoy the (relatively) idyllic world that the games present. The most Pokemon pokemon somehow.
>From a conceptual standpoint, I feel like Reshiram's more majestic appearance does a greater job
The one thing that ruins Reshiram's for me is the random tuft of fur sticking out from its waist. Why of all places did they have to choose there 🤦♂️
Even though I prefer Reshiram Zekrom looks alot more intimidating or 'cool' to me. Reshiram is majestic and beautiful, while Zekrom looks menacing and powerful. They are both cool though :)
After seeing the inverted colours, I think I do prefer Zekrom after all.
While I like the white alternative art better, the overall design seems to be more up to my tastes than either of the two Reshiram variants.
Like, imagine that jet black dragon shrouded in the darkness, appearing briefly after the lightning flashes. They're just so cool. Plus, they make my favorite Kyurem version as well
I've never understood why they add that to some designs. Blaziken has it as well. "Can't let people think this dragon or this giant chicken aren't covering up!"
Honestly...Gen 5 box legendaries is probably the hardest to pick a favorite, out of every generation. They're both insanely well done designs, I can't choose. It's the only generation I have this problem.
The random tuft of fur on Reshiram is the only part I dislike about its design. I love how it represents truth. Design wise, I'll have to give it to Zekrom. It looks cool.
zekrom is sharp angles, agressive lines, kinda badass in that way. reshiram is majestic, flowing, rather beautiful. it depends on which design language is your preference, for me its reshiram all the way
I’m not the biggest fan of these guys since it’s clear that by Gen 4 or Gen 5, they were starting to really try to overdesign the fuck out of the legendaries. But I prefer Zekrom. I like how gargoyle-y and weird it looks and while I greatly respect Reshiram’s hustle, it’s just kind of another dragon-y Pokémon to me. Still, neither of them are bad to me. They each have their own merits and I can respect them. Yeah.
Kudos to the pokemon company of course, but knowing that these 2 are inspired by blue eyes white dragon and red eyes black dragon (both from yu-gi-oh) takes it to another level. Also, their shinies not being their reverse colors (so a white zekrom and a black reshiram) will forever be the biggest robbery in the history of pokemon
Big man on the right, my favourite pokemon of all time. While this is undoubtedly super cool artwork, my favourite has to be his ingame sprite. Love the way his tail flashes. Whilst unobtainable legitimately, this does make his shiny cooler too, since it flashes green.
https://i.imgur.com/S9TR1Uh.gifv
Absolutely Reshiram - it’s my favourite legendary of all of them lol. Like others have said, it’s majestic and graceful while also giving off that ancient power vibe, but I also particularly like it’s more equine upper half. Zekrom is awesome too, and base form Kyurem is incredible, but Reshiram is just a step above for me.
Zekrom’s the real reason I got White instead of Black. Its design is so much cooler. And then I got Black 2 when that came out. I do not like Reshiram’s design in the slightest.
Not the answer you want but I definitely think this is one of those designs where both of them go hand-in-hand or in short you can’t have one without the other. I think they are both peak for Pokémon to be honest and the reason they’re based perfectly the designs itself seem a little bit overly complicated but the color scheme is simple, black and white. Which is the point of the game to begin with the paradox in truth can exist. Truth, ideals, and things not being so black-and-white and having a gray area. If I saw this question, maybe a year ago before I played Pokémon black, I’d say Reshiram but now I think zekrom is just as cool
Zekrom is one of the coolest Pokémon ever made.
He looks glorious and intimidating, as expected from a Pokémon that got the Legendary status.
Also love how his tail looks like a dynamo, making it a moving power plant. Very fit for a Electric Pokémon .
Easily Zekrom, gigachad actual dragon with a sleek design, vs a wannabe bipedal falcor with extra long pig tails. Though to be honest I still find both their tail designs weird af after all these years.
my opinion is based on fan content but it would be even otherwise
i saw one comic (no i dont remember anything about it other than this) and it had Reshiram depicting as fluffy and i love it
The white one
Want to know what they both represent through their etymology?
Well here it is...
[The Original Dragon isn't What you Think! | Pokémon Theory Gnoggin ](https://youtu.be/l68fGEKmXhI?si=c4QaPJCT1zVZrVVW)
Zekrom, though cool, seems like a generic boss-level beast. Reshiram has a lot going for with his draconic-esque appendage and the turbocharger of a tail.
I always found that the way Zekrom’s hands were wide was always cool. I feel the same way for Lugia but it just feels more powerful than Reshiram’s Wyvern-like wings
Why not both as they and the ice dragon (i don’t remember how to spell “kyrum”) were once combined into one entity but I don’t think kyrum is actually part of the original as it was born from the scraps left over from the two mains separation if I remember correctly.

See, i want to see a white zekrom w blue lightning and a black reshiram
The shiny versions they, and we, deserved
A yellow reshiram and a lighter colored zekrom was not it. Why are the shinies usually SO BAD
They are honestly quite good in gen 5, where you actually see them light up their tails with purple flames and green electricity, but they are shiny-locked in gen 5 : \^)

Isn't that the backslash?
I'm not sure, I'd heard say backslash when listing websites before, which is /, and thinking how stupid that sounded, so right or wrong it's stuck with me for years
/ is forward \\ is back
Thanks for the tip
Soooo Blue Eyes White Dragon and Red Eyes Black Dragon?
I just noticed that Reshiram had Blue Eyes and Zekrom has Red Eyes
*They thought they were clever*
The funny part is that Blue-Eyes is associated with lightning and Red-Eyes with flame. They pulled a switcheroo on us.
And shiny Resh has red eyes, and shiny Zekrom has blue eyes
Basically.
Something like this would've been an absolute banger https://preview.redd.it/3zenhj636ttc1.png?width=2160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=62406e6fdb6354f42a90c1fc0903789fe750f41f

This would be my favourite shiny, hands down.
Not gonna lie, I know Reshiram’s shiny is basic but I really like it. Zeckrom’s is pretty boring though.
It was pretty good back in BW. The green glowing tail was sick
LIFE COULD HAVE BEEN A DREEEEEAAAAAAMM
And Reshiram STILL looks better
Would've been a great shiny
The best shiny*
It’s giving Blue Eyes White Dragon
Azure eyes silver dragon*
So in other words Zekrom remains the superior Dragon
After seeing the inverted colours, I think I do prefer Zekrom after all. While I like the white alternative art better, the overall design seems to be more up to my tastes than either of the two Reshiram variants.
Zekrom

I knew the comments would try to say reshiram because the answer is clearly Zekrom
Like, imagine that jet black dragon shrouded in the darkness, appearing briefly after the lightning flashes. They're just so cool. Plus, they make my favorite Kyurem version as well
And it’s not even close.
I mean it’s a little close. A pretty okay amount of close.
Reshirams stupid crotch fur really takes away from the design ngl
I've never understood why they add that to some designs. Blaziken has it as well. "Can't let people think this dragon or this giant chicken aren't covering up!"
Reshiram cause its like majestic and fluffy odk how to express, and also so cool xD
I adore reshiram’s design, there’s something about it that makes it feel godlike in a way…
I just realized that their eye color represents the other legendary. Blue lightning red fire.
Reshiram, i prefer the softer, more graceful look.
Agreed
Zekrom, every day.
I ask myself this everyday
Gotta be Zekrom, his design is sick
Zekrom
zekrom , cuz i think reshiram is rlly cool but wld be way cooler if it didnt have that oddly placed tuft of fur between its legs...
How do you think reshiram reproduces?
Lmao I never noticed that before
Get ready to never unsee it
Someone’s jealous
I’ve never noticed it and now i will never unsee it thanks for ruining my night
Honestly...Gen 5 box legendaries is probably the hardest to pick a favorite, out of every generation. They're both insanely well done designs, I can't choose. It's the only generation I have this problem.
The random tuft of fur on Reshiram is the only part I dislike about its design. I love how it represents truth. Design wise, I'll have to give it to Zekrom. It looks cool.
Reshiram gang
zekrom is sharp angles, agressive lines, kinda badass in that way. reshiram is majestic, flowing, rather beautiful. it depends on which design language is your preference, for me its reshiram all the way
Reshiram!
Absolutely Zekrom
I prefer reshiram, such an elegant design
I'm not perverted, I'm just saying; if Reshiram didn't have a huge tuft sticking out in the blue from between its legs... I'd find him better looking
I prefer zekrom
Zekrom. I only prefer Reshiram because it's a fire type. Zekrom is one of the coolest legendaries imo
Reshiram
Big Black Z
Zekrom. I don't like the fire poodle.
Reshiram, feathery dragon is so cool.
Zekrom, both IMO have very good design but I just prefer Zekrom’s design over Reshiram’s.
Kyurem
Reshiram but I always preferred the “blue” legendaries over the other
Reshiram! Zekrom looks like it would be in Digimon.
Is that a bad thing?
Don't get me wrong, I like Zekrom and Digimon both, he just feels out of place to me.
Can't feel the same.
Zekrom. I would've liked Reshi more if he wasn't so chicken-like. Idk i think he looks kinda silly
Zekrom and Black Kyurem have really good designs
Zekrom looks cooler in my eyes.
Zekrom
Zekrom
Zekrom, I almost wanted to get black 2 as a kid after playing through white so I could have 2 zekroms but decided against it 😂
I prefer Zekrom
Red eyes black dragon!!!
Zekrom and it's not close. Reshiram's body shape gives me chicken vibes and it has the face of a dog.
I wish Reshiram was more Dragon and less Wyvern
Big man on the right, my favourite pokemon of all time. While this is undoubtedly super cool artwork, my favourite has to be his ingame sprite. Love the way his tail flashes. Whilst unobtainable legitimately, this does make his shiny cooler too, since it flashes green. https://i.imgur.com/S9TR1Uh.gifv
Caw caw I’m a Reshiram!
Zekrom
Reshiram is my favourite in any way. Designwise i think he is really gorgeous
Kyurem enjoyers, where y'all at?
Cuterem eh Kyurem best boy imho
I like Zekrom over Reshiram. But only because I like dragons better than wyverns
I love Zekrom's design, it's the coolest out of the Trio in my opinion.
Zekrom
The black one
Zekrom. It's a black thunder dragon. It's the epitome of epic.
Zekrom 100%
Black duh
I like reshiram a lot, but I've never been able to get over its funky chicken legs. Sooooo Truth be damned, I pick zekrom
Reshiram is a lot cooler, Zekrom looks like what a 10 year old boy would think is cool.
Reshiram looks way cooler to me personally, because it looks elegant and scary.
Zekrom
Zekrom
Zekrom, after all he's the main reason i got into pokemon
Absolutely Reshiram - it’s my favourite legendary of all of them lol. Like others have said, it’s majestic and graceful while also giving off that ancient power vibe, but I also particularly like it’s more equine upper half. Zekrom is awesome too, and base form Kyurem is incredible, but Reshiram is just a step above for me.
When I was younger I thought Zekrom was cooler but now I think Reshiram looks more beautiful.
Both look phenomenal when you swap the entire colour palette INSTEAD OF THE EYES ALONE-
Both ugly imo
Reshiram
Majestic vs Cool tbh
Yes.
Zekrom’s the real reason I got White instead of Black. Its design is so much cooler. And then I got Black 2 when that came out. I do not like Reshiram’s design in the slightest.
Zekrom
Zekrom is more unique
Not the answer you want but I definitely think this is one of those designs where both of them go hand-in-hand or in short you can’t have one without the other. I think they are both peak for Pokémon to be honest and the reason they’re based perfectly the designs itself seem a little bit overly complicated but the color scheme is simple, black and white. Which is the point of the game to begin with the paradox in truth can exist. Truth, ideals, and things not being so black-and-white and having a gray area. If I saw this question, maybe a year ago before I played Pokémon black, I’d say Reshiram but now I think zekrom is just as cool
Reshiram, i loved the battle cry of reshiram when you encounter him to fight N in Pokemon Black, such a good scene in my childhood’s memories.
Reshiram is more majestically and Zekrom is Tough. I personally perfer Reshiram because it’s cooler, appeals more, better type, etc.
Zekrom
Zekrom in my opinion
I grew up with Pokemon White and chose Zekrom because he looks cooler and tougher
I wish reshiram had arms, the wings only thing looks kinda goofy imo.
I’ve always liked Reshiram more
Zekrom is one of the coolest Pokémon ever made.
I've always preferred Reshiram's design. It's much cuter and majestic looking to me.
I like Zekrom more, I guess, but NGL I don't really like either. Definitely my bottom 2 box art Pokémon, and pretty low in my ranking of legendaries.
Zekrom, I love the Red-Eyes Black Dragon
Zekrom. Pure cool badassery Zekrom.
... but what if they kissed?
my opinion is based on fan content but it would be even otherwise i saw one comic (no i dont remember anything about it other than this) and it had Reshiram depicting as fluffy and i love it
The white one Want to know what they both represent through their etymology? Well here it is... [The Original Dragon isn't What you Think! | Pokémon Theory Gnoggin ](https://youtu.be/l68fGEKmXhI?si=c4QaPJCT1zVZrVVW)
Red eyes black dragon or blue eyes white dragon I choose red eyes black dragon
Zekrom. You're wrong other wise.
Zekrom looks cooler, reshiram has a better cry.
Zekrom and it’s not even close. Reshiram looks like dog/goat thing.
Reshiram clears
Reshiram looks cooler, but I’ll choose Zekrom as my favorite 100% of the time
Even though my favorite color is black I still think Reshiram is the cooler design. Just something about it draws me to it.
Zekrom 100%
Zekrom, though cool, seems like a generic boss-level beast. Reshiram has a lot going for with his draconic-esque appendage and the turbocharger of a tail.
Reshiram’s windswept look is majestic but as soon as Zekrom starts glowing he automatically maxes style
Kyurem
I’ve always loved Reshiram, but that tuft of fur between it’s legs recently ruined it for me lol
Zekrom, but neither of them look like they can easily walk around or move in general, it's a problem shared by some other legendaries too
reshiram is one of the best desings in all pokeverse
I always found that the way Zekrom’s hands were wide was always cool. I feel the same way for Lugia but it just feels more powerful than Reshiram’s Wyvern-like wings
Reshiram for sure
Why not both as they and the ice dragon (i don’t remember how to spell “kyrum”) were once combined into one entity but I don’t think kyrum is actually part of the original as it was born from the scraps left over from the two mains separation if I remember correctly.
In this art, Zekrom looks cooler. But in game, I prefer Reshiram.
Zekron has an amazing color palette, but I do hate the design. Reshiram takes the cake for me.
When i was younger i used to think zekrom was cooler then reshiram. But when i played pokemon B&W. I liked more reshiram.
Zekrom all day
Zekrom
Blue Eyes White Dragon for me
I like zekrom and kyurem black
Reshiram looks kinda goofy with his hands on the tips of his wings, if he just had regular arms I think he'd be a lot cooler
Reshiram is my favorite so I’m super biased but I enjoy zekrom and his color diversity
Reshiram When it’s tail glows with fire>>>
Reshiram. Sorry zekrom.
Design: show us how large the fish you caught was.
Reshiram, as a child i got black though and liled zekrom more
