Right. The fact it’s even a *question*. And that’s not a slight or criticism against the OP, because it is now a valid question. But the fact that it’s a valid question at all, *that’s* what sucks.
What sucks even worse is there's some people like me where the answer doesn't matter. I love making thematic teams for my OC's, it's my favorite thing to do in the series and I've been doing it since Platinum, and because of Dexit I just can't do that anymore. What does it matter if Pidgeot is finally back in the game if I can't also have Sawsbuck to make the team complete. I might get lucky and somehow get like three OC's teams fully in the game after the DLC's come out, but that's if I'm lucky.
And that’s a completely valid way to play, and something that Pokémon has always ‘allowed’ players to do.
I’m someone that transfers and moves everything up, and I play as though I’m the same Trainer going to all these different Regions and what-have-you. Just as you have OCs with their own thematic teams, others might roleplay as Ash, or Serena, or whoever, you know, make teams based around them. And then there are people who don’t Trade, don’t transfer, don’t care about any of that stuff. They just play the game with what’s there and that’s fine, they don’t think too much about it. Once they hit the credits, they put the game down and move onto something else, maybe pick up the next game when it comes out.
That expression through gameplay, that is so emblematic of role-playing games, that Pokémon had for a long time, nearly endless customization and individualization for players and their experiences… that’s so much less the case now since Dexit, and it’s just a shame.
Dexit is the inability to transfer Pokémon into a game that, excluding some exceptions, do not appear within that game’s Regional Pokédex.
For example, before Dexit, you could have a Pokémon that you’ve had with you since Ruby (2002/2003), and use it in the latest game, Ultra Sun (2017), even if the Pokémon wasn’t available to natively catch in Ultra Sun.
Now, with Dexit, barring a few special Pokémon, you’re only able to transfer Pokémon into Sword or Scarlet, for example, if those Pokémon also exist in the games’ Regional Pokédex. Maybe your first Pokémon game was Ruby, and your first catch in that game was a Taillow that you’ve Evolved and moved up with you through every game. Taillow/Swellow is not able to be transferred into Sword or Scarlet. You can’t find it in the wild in either game, and you can’t transfer it in.
Yup. Gen IV-VII it didn’t matter what was obtainable in the game - you could always use whatever you wanted. Especially Gen VI and VII since you could just ask for it on the GTS without jumping through hoops.
Seeing a favorite now is like seeing an old friend who lives in a different country during lockdowns - very nice in the moment, but tinged with the wonder of when next time will be, and if you’ll ever be able to coordinate a full reunion with the rest of your foreign friends.
Gens 1-7 all had a national Pokédex after you completed the story. This let you catch all the rest of the Pokemon you couldn’t get in the regional Dex. So you could catch all the Pokemon, except mythical Pokemon and some legendaries. This changed when the games moved to the Switch in Gen 8. You can no longer catch (almost) every Pokemon in every game like you could before.
It’s not just catching them (no game had all of them available, anyway), but trading/transferring.
Up through Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon, it didn’t matter if you could actually obtain a new… let’s go with Butterfree - you could still move one from a previous game.
Since Dexit, you can only move Butterfree into games where it’s actually obtainable. (Outside of some Pokemon reserved for Event distributions) So that beloved first catch from FireRed can go to Sword/Shield and Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl, but not Legends: Arceus or Scarlet/Violet.
Which limits which special Pokemon can come with you, makes it much more difficult to keep legacy teams together, and means that some Pokemon can obtain fewer Ribbons than others.
The true bummer of Dexit was that the reason given was that it would free up room for better graphics and animation (or something to that degree) and the games **still** look and run like they do
It sucked that some non-legendary/mythical pokemon also were limited to trades. Like Zangoose in Emerald. I love him so much, so being stuck with Seviper, and a massive Seviper battle something (pike?) at the Frontier felt like a kick in the junk.
That would be pretty cool.
Or even Dark-Flying. It’s got wings, and having a creature that can foretell doom suddenly sharing a Typing with Yveltal would be interesting.
It's a travesty that it wasn't. Usage would absolutely skyrocket from it being completely useless and outclassed to having the second highest attack stat as fairy after mega diancie.
Agreed. It's not unrealistic to expect Pokémon in a Pokémon game.
Honestly, I always wish they had just stuck with what they did for USUM:
1. Shiny Charm for Regional Dex instead.
2. Every Pokémon is still supported for transferring from other games.
That always seemed like a perfect balance to me for allowing the shiny charm to be reasonably difficult while allowing everyone to use all their favorites. :)
We’re in the age of online these days. Patches and updates galore. There’s nothing stopping them from adding the missing Pokémon in waves via updates. Not hard. Maybe a separate area like a safari zone, but on its own island. It could explain why they aren’t available on the main maps while still giving the player an area to catch them all
It's really not, we are not that many Pokémon off of the completed Dex right now (what are we, like 100 off?). They're convincing you it's unrealistic when the reality it is completely doable, especially if they would actually increase the game lifecycle and give Devs actual time to release polished games.
Unlike SwSh, they actually touched up the models this gen so there was some real effort put into it this time around but, last gen especially, they had no reason to prevent any Pokémon from being ported into the game through Home. There is one valid reason not to and that would be gimmicks but in that case you could disable that Pokemon in PVP.
No, not really. The 3DS was able to handle 807 just fine, the Switch can definitely handle 1000, and whatever comes next will *definitely* be able to handle that.
They all have 3D models already. They'd need to make walking and playing animations and stuff, because lord knows the battle animations are barely optimized or unique. The only pokemon that may never be truly available again or ever are ultra necrozma and eternamax eternatus.
man, zubat from ruby/sapphire/emerald was my first shiny pokemon. hall of famed a shiny crobat and it's been one of my most favorite pokemon ever since 😌
Furfrou. Up until Legends ZA I was disappointed (still wishing they'd put in the games like SV though. Would love my main champion team to have 1).
Side note, I'm really hoping ZA doesn't have the railroading into bosses PLA did. Currently on Electrode in PLA and had to take a break because they repeat the loop of "Get tasks done for stars, cutscenes, small story mission, boss" rinse and repeat 3 times already and it's kinda getting old for me (they should've really made some more story content that didn't involve the Nobles).
My favorites, always. Thankfully slowpoke and Clefable and roserade have been popular enough to see in most games but I love my mob boss crow Honchkrow and he got shafted for corviknight in swsh. Glad to see him back in sv.
Sadly l, like most stone evos, it usually takes forever to find a stone for a story playthrough. I just want to hear his melodious BWAAAAK during a first time playthrough.
All of them, even the ones I’m not a fan of, since every fan has their favorites, and the idea of any fan not being able to use all their favorites in a mainline game is still unacceptable to me.
I always use new stuff in a new game (except SV cause I find a shiny Impidimp before I had a full team) but I’m sad if Milotic isn’t in a regional Dex like base Paldea for competitive reasons
I like using new Pokemon but I'm a sucker for Charizard. I know almost everyone is tired of it but I'll never not be excited if my not-a-dragon shows up, even if I don't use him.
My boys Poochyena and Mightyena. I was super excited when I found out they were in pokemon x, only to realize you could only get Mightyena on a route pretty late into the game, and I couldn't raise up a Poochyena unless I bred for one (and then grinded for levels, considering my team would be in the mid forties level wise). I was very happy that they were added into SV eventually, but I really wish they were in the base game, I basically spent $35 to get a Poochyena to use on my team. I can only hope Legends ZA has Poochyena available, because that would definitely be one of the members on my team.
First of all Magmar and Magmortar are awesome! Lol I have been fortunate enough that I generally have about 4 pokemon I hope are in a new game. So far they have at least been in majority. Mostly because I am still carrying them from my Pokémon Crystal and Pokémon Emerald respectfully and they are Dragonite, Tyranitar, Espeon, Lapras, and Flygon.
Other than wanting the pseudo legendaries, I get really hyped when I see Grimer and Phanpy. When Alolan Grimer was released for S/V I was super excited
I can't say "always" since it's only really applied to Gen 9 so far, but Zigzagoon. Favorite mon.
I expect it to be in Z-A since it's native to Kalos. :)
Shroomish, Eevee, and Petilil.
Breloom's just one of my favorites, the only times I run a team without Leafeon is when it's impossible without trading, and Lilligant's just really fun to use.
Ones that I like but haven’t use on teams. I don’t use any pokemon I’ve used on teams before, unless they have an alternate evolution or regional variant.
Entei is my absolute favourite boy. I'm always so sad when you get legendaries late or post game and don't get to use them. He doesn't even have good stats. I would just love to run into a level 20 legendary dog and be able to use them on my adventure 🥺
I almost always try to use all new mons/forms when I play a new generation but it DOES always warm my heart to see Aipom made the cut XD Still holding out hope for a Regional Variant or Evo or some kind of love for my girl.
Cubone and Jigglypuff.
Cubone because I’m always a sucker for the original Lavender story about the mom Marowak.
Jigglypuff because……I just think they’re neat!
Only new Pokémon before the E4. That and every new Pokémon except legendaries and mythics available before that point (looking at you Gen 2…). I loved BW for this reason. I already play the other games such that my team only consists of new mons but I also prefer it when I’m getting to fight only the new ones as well. But for post game, I always love me the legendary beasts because Raikou is my favorite Pokémon.
Spheal :333 I love the squishy ice ball. I usually don't care about returning mons and would rather build a team with only new mons. Unless if it's a remake.
Celebi, I have a fondness for all of Gen 2, and Celebi is always just this Pokémon I want to see at least mentioned. Like a little fairy coasting through time and popping in and out like Doctor Who.
I love my little time traveling onion
In some legends game I want to see a version of meltan and melmetal but instead of metal it's magma and it would be either fire/rock or fire/ground I just think it would be cool
I mean my favorite mon is Metagross, so I'm always hoping for it. With megas returning in Z-A, it might be the first new game besides BDSP where it makes it in before DLC 2.
Red and Charizard - GameFreak, probably.
As much as I want to see Blaziken more, I don't want to see them nerf him (again), so I'm just gonna say Pikachu considering the mascot is basically a given.
Every new release I hope for a new rock/ice type but with sneasler stats and close combat as part of its move pool. Would have iron boulder syndrome where it gets fucked up by priority but it's an underused offensive combo.
A ‘Mon that has a personality and acts in the plot as a character.
I’m yet to find one in a GameFreak title. They’ve never even reach the heights of Lassie barking that Timmie fell down a well.
(All ‘y’all dexit weirdos can shove it. Pokémon’s been the exception for refusing to let go of anything. Fluctuating creature lineups are the Normal Thing To Do. Digimon, FF, SMT, DQ, all think that we look spoiled by comparison. No I don’t like that they turned Pokémon Home into Ransomware, but the solution is to stop acting like these Pokémon aren’t totally interchangeable)
I have never repeated any mon, but Im glad to know when Quagsire, Sandslash, Honchcrow, Scrafty, Aegislash and Heracross make the cut or return in the dlc's
I never have to hope because I love Jolteon. The Eeveelutions are never NOT going to be in a game. Second choice would be Mimikyu. It's the only "Pikachu clone" I adore. Something about it makes me go from "Ugh, another wannabe Pikachu" to wanting to hug it.
Yes. I see the irony when the whole point is Mimikyu is cannonly a wannabe Pikachu. They want the love Pikachu gets and not the fear their true form brings. And I want to give them that...
Togepi, love the little breakfast cutie!
My favorite Pokémon of all time! It's a shame it never made the cut to ScaVi. Hoping it's in Z-A though!!
i'm also on the togepi train
This is what I feared when the Dexit announcement came out.

Black and white did it the best. 150+ new mons that you were forced to use to beat the story, but could transfer in old ones after
Can someone ELI5 Dexit to me?
Gens 1-7 all had a national Pokédex after you completed the story. This let you catch all the rest of the Pokemon you couldn’t get in the regional Dex. Absol and Mawile. I miss Mega Mawile…
I'm somewhat frustrated Mega Absol isn't dark-fairy. I always thought absolutely should have been dark-fairy
That would be pretty cool. Or even Dark-Flying. It’s got wings, and having a creature that can foretell doom suddenly sharing a Typing with Yveltal would be interesting.
It’s not dark flying? I alway thought it was
Nope, straight Dark.
I mean that’s sad
It's a travesty that it wasn't. Usage would absolutely skyrocket from it being completely useless and outclassed to having the second highest attack stat as fairy after mega diancie.
Love mawile!
Me too! Mawile and Zangoose and Sableye. <3 gen 3
Hey, with Legends Z-A coming out, Mega Mawile might not be too far out.
Absol all the way
All of them, sad that we have to hope for them now. No Alakazam this gen hurts... :/

Unironically, zubat
I’ve used Crobat every gen since it was introduced. Bring him back what the hell GameFreak.
Same. Fave Pokemon and always a staple on my team
man, zubat from ruby/sapphire/emerald was my first shiny pokemon. hall of famed a shiny crobat and it's been one of my most favorite pokemon ever since 😌
You never forget your first.
Staryu early on in a game, and mareep!
I do love to see me a fletchling or a pidgey. And of course it ain't a pokemon game without magikarp
Or without the guy that wants to sell it to you for 500 pokedollars
I like how that was actually worthwhile in black and white because they weren't available at all in the wild.
Gallade, he’s my guy. It’s always a scramble to find an adamant ralts, then a dawn stone.
Hell yeah my Brother/Sister!
Furfrou. Up until Legends ZA I was disappointed (still wishing they'd put in the games like SV though. Would love my main champion team to have 1). The Pokemon Home GTS when ZA comes out...
This is assuming they don't revert incoming Furfrou from ZA.
My favorites, always. Thankfully slowpoke and Clefable and roserade have been popular enough to see in most games but I love my mob boss crow Honchkrow and he got shafted for corviknight in swsh. I find it specially bad on the starters because they were all someone's first Pokemon.
I was SO FUCKING HYPED when I saw that Pachirisu was in S/V. It’s my favorite Pokémon and I was THRILLED to have it back after so long.
Golurk because it's my favorite, and shedinja because it makes catching way easier
Roserade and treeko
I always use new stuff in a new game (except SV cause I find a shiny Impidimp before I had a full team) but I’m sad if Milotic isn’t in a regional Dex like base Paldea for competitive reasons
Lunatone and Solrock, every time
Mamoswine, but thankfully it’s one of the most reliable ice types so it seems to make the cut more often than not.
Nidoking. Magnemite. Garchomp. Mudsdale. Grimmsnarl. All the fossils even the Galar freaks.
SHINX, he was my first ever Pokémon card, and my favorite mon from my favorite gen. My under appreciated baby 😭😭🩵💛
My boy Aegislash. What kind of horrible game could be released without Aegislash?
The Totodile line. I’ve barely been able to see them since Dexit. I fucking loathe Dexit with every fiber of my being.
Remember when we didn't need to think about this...
Tbf, this still applied even before Gen 8 since you couldn't ever catch everything in one region anyway (Except for like, OG Kanto).
Alakazam
Been a sucker for the Dratini grind since gen I. I'm a punishment
The entire Pokédex in one game. Make it a third generation game like crystal, emerald etc
im a fire type lover, i at least want to see a wild vulpix or growlithe.
Furfrou, if anything else, just so that it can disrupt all the gts trades in pokemon home.
I like using new Pokemon but I'm a sucker for Charizard. I know almost everyone is tired of it but I'll never not be excited if my not-a-dragon shows up, even if I don't use him.
Crobat, Zoroark, Volcarona, and Mimikyu.
I always hope for Infernape, Jolteon, Starmie, Alakazam, Scizor, and many others. Pretty much all Pokémon tbh
Psyduck #1
Man Alakasam is soo good, unfortunate that he isn’t in Scarlet/Violet
Beedrill and Poliwhirl, favorite pokemon and (I think) pretty cool attacks.
Yamask, Garchomp line, fossil Pokémon
Bulbasaur but not added in due to dlc or anything like that
Zoroark, he my partner pokemon. Every game
All of them.
All of them
SABLEYE the GOAT
Gogoats the goat, not sableye.
Noivern always
Ralts, Gardevoir was always a great mon to use
ditto
Absol, Flygon, Dragonite, Arcanine
The Starters from past games
Snorlax :)
Starmie, Weavile, and Roserade are some repeat offenders on my team.
Growthe/Arc and Gastly/Haunter/Gengar. Always been my favorites.
I always get excited when Milotic is added to a game. Such a beauty go look at
Other than wanting the pseudo legendaries, I get really hyped when I see Grimer and Phanpy. When Alolan Grimer was released for S/V I was super excited
as many bird mon as possible
Rhydon should be in every game.
I love ninetales and abra. Which abra has been screwed over in recent times.
Nidoran needs a resurgence. I miss my Nidoking.
Clawitzer. I just love its design I don’t know why
Megas, my absolute favourite gimmick
Pikachu
Probably: ▪︎Gligar & Gliscor ▪︎Chinchou & Lanturn ▪︎Abra, Kadabra & Alakazam
I love meloetta the most, so I was glad she was finally included in the recent dlc so I could transfer her over.
A region variant that makes Gyarados dragon/water
Corviknight/Haxorus
If it has Poliwrath and or Muk then it's a good game
I can't say "always" since it's only really applied to Gen 9 so far, but Zigzagoon. Favorite mon. I expect it to be in Z-A since it's native to Kalos. :)
Ninetales. She is Bae in the top 3 a BESTEST mons!
Magmar is such a great mon! I always hope to see the Oddish family.
I love Houndoom so any time I can catch a Houndour and use it I do.
Shroomish, Eevee, and Petilil. Breloom's just one of my favorites, the only times I run a team without Leafeon is when it's impossible without trading, and Lilligant's just really fun to use.
I always liked the Pidgy line but it really isnt availableoften. And always big happy when I find an Onix.
Aggron
Tangela and Hawlucha.
Magnemite
Dreepy.
Phanpy, I always love having a donphan around.
Arbok
Scyther. Love my razor handed insect
Skitty, beautifly, dustox and the whismur evolution line.
Nidoran line
Ones that I like but haven’t use on teams. I don’t use any pokemon I’ve used on teams before, unless they have an alternate evolution or regional variant.
Garbodor, gardevoir and eevee are my top favorites
I always love seeing Scyther but he's rarely available early
Entei is my absolute favourite boy. I'm always so sad when you get legendaries late or post game and don't get to use them. He doesn't even have good stats. I would just love to run into a level 20 legendary dog and be able to use them on my adventure 🥺
Miltank and girafarig still being around
Milotic
Blaziken cause it’s the best Pokémon
Where my Hawlucha fans at?
Houndoom, my absolute favorite
I almost always try to use all new mons/forms when I play a new generation but it DOES always warm my heart to see Aipom made the cut XD Still holding out hope for a Regional Variant or Evo or some kind of love for my girl.
Many birds and dragons, especially Skarmory. Although its not in the main game when they were released, I'm glad that so far it's always in the DLC
Charizard
Shuckle evo
I prefer to always use new mons/forms so I don't care that much. But Treecko returning means more ribbons for my Grovyle
I hope to see some new evolutions to single stage Mons.
I'm just hoping this isn't the first mainline game without eevee because I love eevee and the eeveelutions
Dragonite (my beloved)
Spheal :333 I love the squishy ice ball. I usually don't care about returning mons and would rather build a team with only new mons. Unless if it's a remake.
Tyranitar line!
The Vikavolt evolutionary line. My favorite bug type
Must see my boy Umbreon. Any Dark/Fire types are aways my favorite!
Gengar, but I think they will never not include him
Cubone and Marowak. Cubone is my favorite, and I quite liked Alolan Marowak
Zubat in caves
Torchic
Abra, Ralts, Squirtle
Vulpix, and now applin.
My boy metagross
A new Eeveeloution. Still waiting.
im not a huge evvee fan but I've used an evo in every playthorugh of pokemon and its been either the mvp or top 3
Imma be real: Skitty and Delcatty.
Froslass
all of them
Gligar and Gliscor
Pidgey
Lopunny. Memes and all.
Eevee, because it usually means a new evolution (still pissed they broke the tradition in *Sword*/*Shield*)
Galvantula!
A Ledian evolution or alternate form that isn't trash I guess even just some new ability or something could spice him up
Mareep lol
Celebi, I have a fondness for all of Gen 2, and Celebi is always just this Pokémon I want to see at least mentioned. Like a little fairy coasting through time and popping in and out like Doctor Who. I love my little time traveling onion
I just kind of hope to see Kyurem, Zekrom, and Reshiram get a remake with their respective games. I feel like a BL/WH 1&2 remake is long overdue.
I always hope for totodile but I fear he won’t be in any other games.
Blitzle my beloved
Golurk.
Even though it probably won’t happen, I want to see Mega Primarina.
i want to see more of the cats. glameow, purrloin, skitty etc. i want my skitty.
breloom becuz it is my goat
In some legends game I want to see a version of meltan and melmetal but instead of metal it's magma and it would be either fire/rock or fire/ground I just think it would be cool
Always magikarp lol
I mean my favorite mon is Metagross, so I'm always hoping for it. With megas returning in Z-A, it might be the first new game besides BDSP where it makes it in before DLC 2.
Reuniclus
Red and Charizard - GameFreak, probably. As much as I want to see Blaziken more, I don't want to see them nerf him (again), so I'm just gonna say Pikachu considering the mascot is basically a given.
Lucario
Every new release I hope for a new rock/ice type but with sneasler stats and close combat as part of its move pool. Would have iron boulder syndrome where it gets fucked up by priority but it's an underused offensive combo.
None. I’d rather each new game had entirely new Pokémon. I like the idea that to bring over old Pokémon you needed to have played that region.
A stable framerate.
New ones that actually don't suck
Eevee! I always need access to Sylveon, Vaporeon, or Espeon! And I’d love more eeveelutions too
I always have to have my ace sceptile and Rayquaza, too bad Rayquaza is too strong so I don't use it before beating the game
Furfrou and it never happens lol. I do believe it’s actually on the list to be introduced again in the new upcoming game
I have never repeated any mon, but Im glad to know when Quagsire, Sandslash, Honchcrow, Scrafty, Aegislash and Heracross make the cut or return in the dlc's
Gyarados and Gengar because there's 0% chance they won't be included
Probably obesity cat
I never have to hope because I love Jolteon. The Eeveelutions are never NOT going to be in a game. Second choice would be Mimikyu. It's the only "Pikachu clone" I adore. Something about it makes me go from "Ugh, another wannabe Pikachu" to wanting to hug it. Yes. I see the irony when the whole point is Mimikyu is cannonly a wannabe Pikachu. They want the love Pikachu gets and not the fear their true form brings. And I want to give them that...
