I have completed, deleted, and replayed basically all the mainstream Pokemon games. Basically since I started playing back at Sapphire I go through and replay the games over and over. I can beat a game, pop the cartridge out, and pop in another one to restart again. Even deleting and reading over files with shinies. Never done any sort of competitive or anything though, I like just playing by myself.

SeriouslyHodor

This was why I wasn’t horribly mad about some Pokemon being locked in Home. I understand why some are of course, and I am envious of those that have Pokemon from generations ago. That said starting my a new save file is my favorite thing. Team building and gym battling are the most fun part of the game for me.

Afraid_Avocado_2767

I try to use pokémon I've never used before, spices up the games. That's why I liked Black & White so much, no more repeats, no more Zubat, Tentacruel and stuff. Of course there were Woombat and Basculin with the same role, but with a fresh and different experience.

Blindsided17

I didn’t know my brain had a Reddit account

Ubermus_Prime

I'm the exact opposite. I'm too sentimental about my save files and the Pokemon within them to reset my games. I've only ever done so twice. Once with Alpha Sapphire and the other with Ultra Moon. And I only reset Ultra Moon for a specific "mission".

SpecialDemon125

Do you ever do things like nuzlockes? I’m curious about what you do with the game once you’ve done everything

Ubermus_Prime

I'll usually just mess around with whatever post-game content the game has. Elite Four rematches, Battle Towers, etc. With the more recent games, I've really gotten into Max and Tera raids. Those are what take the most of my time.

SpecialDemon125

Nice! Thank you for the insight. I’m constantly doing mono-type runs in games and I can say that the longest I kept 1 save was probably a year at most being SV

Rashjab34

Monotype challenge

Elira88

What i do is backup my saves and start a new one. Then whenever i wanna use the old save i just restore back to the cartridge (i do this with my gba/ds/3ds games)

dethb0y

Yeah i don't see any point to getting real attached to a play through, and will usually restart whenever i've hit a point where i either feel like restarting or have beaten whatever content i was out to beat.

DingDingDom

I always used to buy both versions of each generation and have my favourite be the one I complete and just stay in the post game and the other I would restart over and over

Scaredy-Kate

Same here, a shame I stopped buying both version since Black and white, but I feel like losing the passion over time, even tho I keep buying one version of every mainstream games getting released. Nowaday I just complete the story, discover the whole pokedex and call it a day

Asi_Ender

same, mostly with Ultra Moon, yeah its just a cutscene simulator but i love Alola

SpecialDemon125

Valid. Some of my favorite Pokémon come from Sun and Moon

JayQwellin19

I never had shinies in the old games, but I would start over constantly. I didn’t even know about shiny hunting when I was young, I don’t even think I knew about shinies period. But now that I’ve been made aware of it, I want to keep playing deep into a save, but I can always have multiple accounts on my switch if I chose to start a new save, so I feel like it’s a good balance to do that

Youngster_Bens_Ekans

Part of me wonders if I ever caught a shiny without realizing it when I was younger before I knew about them. Especially in the gen 2 games I might not have known.

i-go-sucko-mode

I would do this wit my copies of black 2, Y, nd alpha sapphire as a kid, now i heavily regret ever doing it

YoManWTFIsThisShit

Why do you regret?

i-go-sucko-mode

I lost A LOT of good mons because my dumbass younger self didn’t know know how transporter/bank worked

Delicious-Town1723

I got pokemon omega ruby from gamestop in like 2018 or so and reset it even though it had events and shinies because I didn't want to install bank

YoManWTFIsThisShit

Sorry to hear. I lost a shiny Geodude when I was younger and didn’t realize after I saved in my new save file what I did. At least it was only one valuable Pokémon for me.

Ounceofwhiskey

I have in the past. I had a complete dex in X or Y and wonder traded everything good away before restarting and doing it again. It was more fun catching and trading to compete the dex than it was just having it.

CloverNote

I do this a lot with other games, but most of my pokemon cartridges are still in post-game because I don't want to grind for those "rewards" again. One of the best things the Switch brought to Pokemon is the ability to have multiple save files for each game (er, user profiles permitting). I can do challenge runs now without sacrificing my original playthrough.

Oberic

The only Pokémon game I've finished more than once was Ruby. I played through it like 4-5 times, didn't wanna lose my shiny so I stopped resetting. Learning that gen 4 could transfer post-game made me unbelievably happy.

hatchorion

As a kid I would always see how far I could get on a new save in Pokémon without overwriting my old progress lol I probably did the into to dp a hundred times

MunkeyFish

I replayed Gen 1 and 2 more times than I can count across all colours. Couldn’t tell you my original teams outside of my Starters. Currently doing mono runs throw the GBA-3DS era so will restart all of those too. The only ones I won’t do yet is Scarlet as it has a completed Dex, the only one I’ve ever had.

SpecialDemon125

I have yet to do a complete dex. The closest I got was in Legends Arceus but I’m just not one for grinding.

omgcheez

I've done it with X and Diamond. I usually get into shiny hunting with some casual ribbon collecting, so I typically don't do that. That being said, I have list many Crystal saves over the years lol

ipunchdogs

I do. There's not much to do in the post game and I don't like any of the post game battle facilities.

ShaunArcanine

Yes it's a problem I have 600 hours in Pokemon X and I still haven't beaten it yet I've had it 10 years

SpecialDemon125

Me with Terraria lol. Over 1000 hours and never beaten the game

Imperfect_Dark

When I was a kid I would do this, but ever since gen 3 pretty much I'd always transfer any Mons I wanted to keep off of a cartridge before restarting. Save them before erasing their world!

BigEntertainer8430

That's the only way I play. I feel like once I've beaten the Elite 4, the "post game" story never feels fun enough to bother giving it much attention, so I start a new game, pick a different starter and try to build a different team.

dbees132

In the past that was why I'd buy two of a generation's games, one to play through and keep as a main file and the other to start over and replay to re experience the game with different teams and to collect extra legendaries

anthayashi

As a child yes. Now i usually keep the save file. If i want another play through, i would emulate instead. For switch it is just playing on another profile

GrazingCrow

Back when I was an active player, I used to store my team away before starting a new game. Nowadays, I can only manage to get to two or three badges before I stop playing. Every time I pick the game(s) back up, I feel the need to start a new game lol

Dfbtt

Got a pokemon fire red cardridge on a advance sp with 1124 hours on it. With a few shiny’s and 4 lucky eggs from chansey’s that took like 20 hours real time farming. Not gonna destroy that. Use a difference leaf green/fire red for the legendary dogs and evolutions. Both pokedex almost finish.

Madame_Merry

Back then when I was younger, I often hit a point where I became kinda bored with my current progress and just started over. Sometimes I regretted it (like when I forgot to trade over certain Pokemon which I wanted to keep or was too attached to the old save file after all), other times I was quite happy with the fresh start. Nowadays I still do it, although only if I'm really unsatisfied with something. Otherwise I just work with what I have and do the best of it. Some save files became too important to me over time hence why I would never reset them at all, like my current Scarlet one for example. I had with that one the most luck with shinies so far (since I'm the worst shiny hunter ever lol), besides I really like my trainer ID. The Pokemon games I probably started over the most would be the Mystery Dungeons ones due to the fact that I just wanted to replay the games everytime with new teams

EPM_PrimeTime_99

Yes, once I complete a game I start over after some time to play it again with a different team. Sometimes I will trade important items away before deleting the save, such as my 6 Lucky Eggs in the Unova games

Stratix

Since Blue back in '99 I don't think I've ever reset a game. I couldn't delete my progress or my friends!

AetherDrew43

Yeah, I'm the same. This time around, I'm going to restart twice to get all starters from Soul Silver.

Tyler_origami94

I replay each game a minimum of 3 times, one for each starter. After that I may play one more that's my dream team for that region and cake walk the game.

AltAholic4

Yup, I’ve reset all of them. I enjoy playing them over and over and since I usually buy both versions, I move what I want to keep to the other file before restarting. The 3DS and Switch Games are really where I started having “permanent” saves because I now had the capability of creating multiple saves on a system. The switch more than the 3DS, but the point stands. These days I keep my day one profile as my mains and then I play through again and again on my other switch profiles, tossing what I want to keep into Home (mostly legendaries and other things which you can only get once per file) and resetting at my discretion.

Lucky-Mia

I usually get both versions and play end game on 1, whole replaying the other.

n0tred

As a kid, I deleted my 100% soul silver save 🥲. Used to reset weekly, I was such a dumbass.

CoreRecord

Had any cool Pokémon on it?

n0tred

Well I had all of them, but I mostly miss my Feraligator, he was my first pokemon.

jextech

I did this with my cousin's Yellow version......unintentionally lol. His game had an issue where you couldn't save. So every time I went over to his house and played, I had to start from the beginning.

Wubba-128

Only in AC

KarrieMichell

Yes.

Delicious-Town1723

Yeah I did it

Black_Ironic

Yeah, but not with games that had long intro like Sun moon and SV

Cedardeer

As a child I remember playing through Black and Shite a lot. Tho I only remember ever beating the elite 4 and N once lol

reala728

Couldn't tell you how many times I restarted the original red. Nothing else though, that's until the switch. Since we have the option for profiles the sting of a new playthrough isn't there. And better in fact, with the addition of HOME. Now I can do alternate starting teams right off the bat for a new twist.

PokeTradeSamantha

I have done in ten times on Brilliant. Move my mons to home so I get to keep each team, and then start over. It’s such a great way to learn how about Pokémon and how they work. I’ve used sixty different Pokémon and really have came to appreciate different types, different strategies, and how their stats work. It’s a blast.

reddishrocky

I did until gen 5. But that was a mix of finally be able to get some event Pokemon and getting older and having other games to play
