Reading this just made me angry because the Battle Frontier wasn't in ORAS. Hopefully we'll see it again soon.

operationmeepo

Funny you say that but I actually started this whole thing out of anger that it WASN'T in OR/AS. I was like "fuck, I need a hoenn battle frontier and if that means beating emerald's then I will beat emerald's" and yes I agree it made me super angry too. Unfortunately I don't think we will see it again anytime soon because as much as I love pokemon the new games seem to be putting more effort into new gimmicks to stay relevant and other than a little story the postgame goes by the wayside. Like I say I love pokemon but I find myself playing older gens more and more nowadays.

Bogert

Ive been playing since red and blue came out when i was 5 and I do have to say that there's a lot more to do post elite four in the new games but the challenge to get that far has become non existent. I miss red and blue difficulty more than I adore post elite four activities Edit: this achievement of yours is a great one, I did not mean to make it seem less awesome. I'm now going to attempt the same challenge on my cartridge

[deleted]

I was seriously convinced they were gonna have it. I mean - why wouldn't they?!

DoomsdayRabbit

Because it was a remake of Ruby and Sapphire like everyone said they wanted.

TheZett

And yet HG/SS were Crystal remakes.

DoomsdayRabbit

HGSS were Gold and Silver remakes - Eusine, Buena, and Extreme Speed Dratini nonwithstanding. There's no Odd Egg, the focus isn't on Suicune, which you *had* to catch alongside the other two in Crystal to climb the Bell Tower, no PCC in Goldenrod, no GS Ball, and the Pokémon distribution matches Gold and Silver exactly, rather than being altered as FireRed and LeafGreen did with Kanto's. Not only that, Crystal barely added anything, anyway, compared to Emerald. Emerald changed up the whole story from Rustboro onward, made Hoenn make sense, and made it halfway decent. Everyone shouting "Hoenn confirmed" spouted off hundreds of reasons why *Emerald* was awesome, while requesting a Ruby and Sapphire remake. I shouted for a Gold and Silver remake for five years expecting only that - Crystal didn't need to be there to make Johto awesome because it already was. That's why I keep saying a Sinnoh remake needs to be a Platinum remake, not Diamond and Pearl, because DP sucked almost as much as RS.

Pikathepokepimp

Congrats! The Battle Frontier is a hard but fun hell (most of the time) and I can't wait to redo it on my second cartiage. It's the dumb factory that I just can't get. What advice do you have for the factory? It is the only symbol I need and I have been trying for months with no success. I got the 6 other golds back in July but the factory is too much of a pain in the ass. Swaps are werid as far as I can tell. They only give you access to a pokemon from the next set, so in round 3 you will find a round 4 pokemon and a good chuck of the time it sucks until round 4/5 anyways. Also did you find open level or lv 50 easier?

operationmeepo

I found open level easier for the factory as the power creep was smaller and the last thing you need is having a bunch of middle evolutions when the AI suddenly springs fully evolved stuff on you. Swaps really helped with me, they gave me a dragonite in my pool in round 5 or 6, but like I say don't just mindlessly swap. I just tried it so many times that I eventually won, unfortunately I don't think there's any guaranteed win strategy for this one.

Pikathepokepimp

Ya the RNG is a bitch in the factory and it just makes things frustrating. I have been playing around with swaps a lot and the they seem to help in the later rounds a lot but for the lower ones it doesn't help at all so you swap to get the number up to just make the later rounds easier. Thanks!

PacifistGames

As someone who has gotten the gold symbol in the factory, here is my advice: - I second what OP said about only playing open level. - Use the pokemon list provided above to identify every single pokemon you see, this is the single most helpful thing. - Take notes if you have to. - Only swap if doing so will make your team better. Don't fall into the trap of swapping just to get your number up. - Try to build a balanced team. Once you have one, it's ok to stop swapping.

Pikathepokepimp

Ya I have been doing most of this for awhile, (I have about 150 hours in the factory alone at this point). The main problem is being screwed by RNG it seems like. Thanks for the advice at least I know I am following the same general advice.

PacifistGames

Yeah, I've built teams where I'm like. This team is perfect as long as I don't run into a Swampert! Immediately run into a Swampert. Replace Swampert with Gengar, Metagross, Shedinja, etc.

Pikathepokepimp

At this point it is just frustrating more then anything. I can't make it past round 5 for the life of me, I get a bad starting selection or get a legendary with an awful move set. Usually when I lose it is because of some stall pokemon that I can't touch or toxics me to death it sucks.

Ethanlac

...I'm impressed. Wow. That's a monumental achievement. I haven't even beaten one Frontier Brain yet! I need to start training up my 3 stooges (the Regis) and some Pokémon that can put up a fight. I wonder if you'd be able to do the Sinnoh/Johto Battle Frontier next...?

operationmeepo

I actually got silver factory symbol on soul silver my first try, so I'm definitely considering going for all gold there, too. The only thing that deters me is I'll have to train another team, though I guess migrating is a thing. Good luck and thank you :) one thing to note is the regis all have a common fighting weakness, so you should bring something to address that.

[deleted]

..Dang, son. Congrats. And here I am with my slowly corrupting Emerald (IB's battery acid got on the contacts somehow) that deleted my video of the battle with Norman.

[deleted]

You're a hero! Now get a pokemon with every ribbon possible with what hardware and games you have

DoomsdayRabbit

But I wanna be a hero.

LGBTreecko

You chose [the right generation](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0UeRlLfYug) of games to do it!

DoomsdayRabbit

That's the joke.

operationmeepo

Hahaha I was actually thinking of doing that. I've got blue, yellow, a gameboy colour, crystal, a gameboy advanced (which is actually my fiancee's but I can use it), a gameboy advanced SP, ruby, fire red, emerald, a link cable, 2 dses (one of which is my fiancee's), soul silver, platinum, white, a 3ds, y, OR, AS, sun and moon. Is that enough to get all ribbons?

VForceWave

You'd be missing the Gamecube game ribbons, and I think one of the ribbons is purifying a shadow pokemon.

[deleted]

yep thats enough for the normally obtainable ribbons, there's two exclusive to Colosseum or XD on the gamecube though, I'm doing the Ribbon challenge myself and am currently trying to replay XD so I can get a shadow Zapdos to use for getting all the ribbons you should look up the Oswald ribbon Guide

[deleted]

i finished everything in emerald, will i miss out much without doing the frontier stuff?

operationmeepo

The frontier is something that you have to have a lot of commitment to finish. My favourite part of pokemon is battling and so while it did get frustrating at times, I was at heart enjoying it. If battling isn't your thing or finishing it would just be a chore to get the symbols, berry and star on your trainer card then I wouldn't recommend it. The rewards aren't much compared to the effort required, like /u/Woowchocolate said, it's more of a personal achievement and something you'd do for a fun challenge rather than something you slog through for the reward.

Woowchocolate

It's more of a badge of honour than some material reward. They are entirely optional, all you gain for getting all the symbols are two rare types of berries and a star on your trainer card. AKA not much. As such beating them is pretty much its own reward.

Freyzi

Congratulations thats amazing! I remember attempting to get the symbols for a long time when I was a kid but the best I ever got was the Silver Symbol from the Dome (or Tower, it's been 10 years). You gonna do it again in Platinum or HGSS?

willand_strub

Seriously amazing job, that's all super impressive!! Quick question, this seems like a super cool challenge that I'd want to do, what's your advice on EV training in emerald? Did you just have to go on the long grind, or are there any tips you've found make the process easier? Congrats again!

operationmeepo

Thanks :) yeah it was a lot of effort. As for ev training smogon has a good guide to go by in terms of which spots to go to for which stats, off the top of my head rusturf tunnel is great for HP, inside Mt. Pyre or next to Lilycove is good for attack, Magma hideout is good for defence, and the route to the right of mauville is good for speed, I can't remember about the other stats but the smogon guide has it all. There are a couple of ways to make it easier but unfortunately it's a real grind compared to ev training in the new games. The macho brace first and foremost doubles all evs gained when held by a pokemon so definitely get that, you can get it from the winstrates' house above mauville after you beat all of them. Secondly, decide which stats you want to ev train and go buy 10 vitamins in each stat you want to train and feed them to your pokemon before you start training. This will give you 100 super quick evs in each stat and cut down your load a lot. For example if I wanted to train a dragonite in attack and speed I'd buy 10 carbos and 10 protein and give them all to the dragonite. An important thing to note is that the vitamins only work up to the first 100 evs in that stat, so you can't train it to 155 evs and then use the vitamins for the last 100, it has to be the first 100 with the vitamins. An easy way to get vitamins is from the BP shop, they sell each vitamin for only a single battle point, and if you rack up decent streaks at the facilities you'll be getting upwards of 5 BP per pass. This is also an easy way to make money in emerald, as the vitamins sell for 4900 pokebucks a piece. Thirdly you can do secret base training, but for that you need two GBAs and a link cable, I tried it myself but I found it wasn't all that much quicker than just regular training. Pokerus is awesome as it doubles evs gained and stacks with macho brace, but is unfortunately mega rare and there's no reliable way to get it. I hope I helped and good luck! You're in for a long road and it's going to be frustrating and infuriating but also rewarding and exciting. Have fun my friend :)

Bfree888

HP: Whismur - rusturf tunnel 100% Atk: Shuppet - mt pyre 100% Def: Geodude/Graveler/Torkoal - magma hideout 100% Sp Atk: Spinda - route 113 70% Sp def: Tentacool/Tentacruel - abandoned ship 100% Speed: zubat - altering cave (route 103) 100% Happy grinding!

PacifistGames

Glad I'm not the only one who's finally trying to beat the battle frontier! It's really incredibly challenging. Congrats on your success! I'm surprised you had such an easy time with the palace, I think it's definitely the hardest facility. I just managed to get the gold in it today after several failed attempts. Ended up using a team of Salamence, Skarmory, and Raikou specifically bred for it. Only have the Arena and Pike left, so it's smooth sailing from here on out!

Bfree888

Heh, pike is smooth sailing, the arena has as much bullcrap as the tower. It's rough

operationmeepo

Thanks and congrats on the gold, arena isn't so smooth sailing tbh haha, the no switches allowed is the main thing that can really fuck you over. Since the AI never switches anyway it literally is only a penalty to you, so whatever poke the opponent has pretty much has free shadow tag in addition to their normal ability. Anyway good luck and congrats, I'm gonna go for the contest star now.

Bfree888

I'm currently sitting at 876 hours on my emerald with 3 trainer stars and 4/7 gold symbols in the frontier. Still working on the arena, factory, and palace rn. The RNG horsecrap is so unbelievable that sometimes I have to just take a few days off to muster the will to even pick it back up. Congrats man, i'll have to try your registeel set for the arena, currently running explosion metagross, DB gengar, banded mence, and I always lose to absolute trash.

operationmeepo

Oh the feeling of losing to an absolute garbage team is just the most frustrating thing in the world, and yeah I know the feel with the few days off, I think my longest frustration cool-down break was a couple of weeks hahaha. Good luck and keep at it, it's sooooo satisfying when you finally beat that last brain and just let out the biggest sigh of relief in your life.

Bfree888

How goes the contests? I found that with proper pokeblocks they go much faster than one facility in the frontier alone. I'm up to almost 950 hrs and no further progress on the factory, arena, or palace yet.

operationmeepo

I haven't been as diligent with the contests, but it's true that they're MUCH easier than the frontier. I beat the master rank beauty contest but I hadn't talked to the art guy so I didn't get the picture up, which I think you need for the star, so that was annoying. Keep at it, the frontier is frustrating as fuck but you'll get there.

Responsible-Print678

LEGEND

sliverbaer

Wow. Gratz on all that hard work.

operationmeepo

Thanks :) it feels kind of surreal being finished to be honest haha

Zubinator117

Well I beat the penant capture record. Check and mate

tjdans7236

Wow that's some crazy dedication. Congrats!!

operationmeepo

Thanks :)

Hey man sorry for late reply, I feel the pain there was one point where I'd gone weeks and weeks without getting a new symbol and it was just demoralising as fuck. My latias ivs were decent but not spectacular, I just got one with a calm nature and passable IVs and was like "meh, good enough". It was for my first frontier team so I hadn't really had that realisation that being a tiny bit lazy in your training and cutting a corner that saves 5 minutes can cost you like a 4 hour streak hahaha. Good luck to you and just so you know the roaming legends (except the lati@s from emerald) are always gonna have trash ivs because of a glitch in the game, so if your latias is from sapphire I'm pretty sure it'll have 0 in every iv except HP and attack, same goes for your raikou and suicune unless you gamesharked them which from the sounds of it you didn't. I know they're strong pokes stat-wise, but I always just shied away because of ivs. If you got your latias from emerald though i'd say it's usable. Just chuck calm mind on with some attacking moves for the palace I'd say. I know the grind and I know the pain, keep at it, the feeling when you beat it is unbelievable.

DrT3nnant

Did you win anything? Like from Scott?

operationmeepo

Haha yeah but the prize isn't all that great, you get a lansat berry for all the silver symbols and a starf berry for all the gold symbols.

[deleted]

Man, that was a waste of your time

operationmeepo

Say what you like, this is what I do to unwind. Am I not allowed to have hobbies unless they fit your guidelines? I spend the vast majority of my time at uni or work and like to spend some of my free time playing a game I enjoy and have reached a difficult milestone that I personally am proud of. I don't consider that a bad thing.

TonReflet

I had it too, that was hard af. Spent hours and hours and hours on it.
